I make fish patties out of them. Chopped up fish, Italian bread crumbs, diced onions and bell peppers (sauté in butter first), an egg, Parmesan cheese, and your favorite seasoning, I use Cavendars but any seasoning is fine. Mix it all together really well, form into pattie, and pan fry. They’re really good.
Dang! I caught 5 catfish tonight on the gulf and threw em all back cause a buddy said they’re garbage. Don’t think they were sail catfish though. Does that matter?
@@neomacchio4692 nah first off it doesn’t really matter both are fine and I don’t see a difference in taste. And yeah they aren’t garbage lol common lie 😂 I mean I don’t how it makes sense that freshwater catfish is a delicacy but saltwater catfish are somehow abysmal 🤷🏿♂️ I think they’re better than the freshwater ones anyways
I love your level of respect for the fish we're blessed with man. You never keep anything you're not planning on eating, you make sure nothing goes to waste, and your love for fishing is GENUINE! No matter what you catch, you're always having a good time. Cheers from down the road in Navarre brother. 🤙🏿🇺🇲 TIGHT LINES!
I grew up listening to people say, "That fish is no good to eat" without either trying it myself or asking the important question: "Have you ever tried it?". When I started asking that question, almost universally the answer was, "no". My experience since is that almost all saltwater fish are delicious if properly prepared. I fix my sailcats just a bit differently and cut out every trace of red and fry them up. They're as good as any stream-caught channel catfish. This was another great catch-and-cook episode. Excellent content!
Love your videos man. Always look forward to them. I appreciate the variety. Some guys focus too hard on a particular species or spot. That gets kinda boring eventually. Also, thank you for your service. 14 year Vet here.
As a Christian I can say I love your videos. Especially your praying before meals, spending time with your mom and family. No cursing, my kids can watch your videos with me. Thank you. This tennessee boy would love to fish with you sometime.
Watching from South Texas love your videos brother we have South Padre Island down here where we do most of our fishing may GOD continue to bless you and your family and your channel stay blessed fam!!!
Appreciate this video, good catch when trout or reds aren't biting. I'll take the advice about not eating certain fish, but when a sailcat ate my live mullet I gave them a try. We'd hang fresh water cats from a big nail on a dock's post and used those skinning pliers. Prefer to cook with the backbone left in and pull the meat off at the table. Be sure to keep a roll or biscuit handy in case a bone gets stuck in your throat says Grandma.
I lived in Florida for 22 years I used to take saltwater sail cats file them down take the skin off then soak in a marinade overnight. The marinade was just spicy Italian dressing equal parts of lime and lemon juice. Then place them on the grill and some garlic butter and enjoy
I remember my cousins paw paw on his mommas side cooked a whole platter of hard heads . Brought them to a kids party. Let everyone dig in and after the platter was low he let all the cajun ladies know. They ain't trust him since. He always was like that though eating green turtles, that man would turn a storm minnow into a sardine, no shame . He was the ultimate catch cook clean specialist before his time.
Really nice I love me some catfish. I usually take the cleaned meat and they get to rest in a big bowl of salty ice water while I'm getting the other stuff ready. I guess that makes two of us that use the complete seasoning. Thanks for the video
Also, my final out is November 1st. Been in the air force for 6 years, deployed to the Middle East, and I call texas home. Texas and Alabama ain’t that far. Would love to meet up, veteran to veteran, and do some fishing. I got nothing but time now 😬
Looks good! I’ve eaten them and they’re not bad. From what I understand Gafftops eat the same. Bait as trout and redfish. They’re not bottom scavengers like hard heads.
Love your videos man! Could you possibly do a video of a tier list of fish to keep and cook from the Gulf Area? Like best to worst? And maybe include sizes, because I've heard some fish once they reach a certain size does not taste good? Just a thought! Keep up the good work!!
After you season em up dredge em in seasoned flour ,egg wash, and panko break crumbs and deep fry, add your favorite tarter sauce or even use some malt vinegar, and French fries 👍
Great stuff man! Keep up the good work. Would love to see you do another Croaker video out on Little Lagoon in fort Morgan! I take a trip 2 or 3 times a year out there just to fish the lagoon for monster croaker!
Don't know if you ever heard this, but if you get stuck by catfish you can immediately rub the wound on the belly of the catfish and the pain will immediately go away. It always worked for me. Just try and keep that in mind. Thanks for your service.
I always wanted to try a sail cat. Up here in north Georgia when I catch big freshwater catfish I hang them up by there jaw and cut their whole tail off while they are alive and their heart pumps all the blood out super fast and they die quickly and it makes the meat white as snow. It also makes a huge difference flavor wise. I really don’t like catfish unless they have been cleaned that way.
Great vídeo! Here in Brazil we have some big ass catfish and people eat it in a multiple recipes... Some of the recipes you can't even tell that its catfish. Fun fact here we always put lemon for seasoning fish in general and outside here i almost never see ppl do that but its really tasty...
Great vid. Used to see those on the table here in SC pretty regularly. Now it's against the rules to keep any. Beautiful yard! Would love to see a catch and cook of whatever you can catch out of it!
Ever eaten a hardhead catfish? Or can you eat them? I’ve never caught a big sail catfish but I’ve gotten a couple decent sized hard heads in the bay. I always toss my saltwater catfish back but they are easy most of the time to find for me and they put up a really fun fight when you get one with even a little weight to it
I've eaten sailfins all my life. Never knew they were not supposed to be good. (I mean, I had heard it, but I never believed it.) Trim the bloodline and trim off the red and you're left with a flaky, tastey piece of fish.
Yeah I like watching this kid fish he's pretty good at what he does and explains stuff pretty well but I've never heard anybody licking a catfish for hallucinogenic properties but I live in Louisiana and we catch hardheads all the time if they stick you you can rub the belly slime of the catfish where it's stuck you and it will take away some of the pain
Caught and ate my share of freshwater catfish, but didn't even know there was a saltwater catfish?..... pretty cool. I'm thinking those filets need to be dipped in a good beer batter and fried, but that's just me.
I got stuck by a pectoral fin from a sail cat. It was quite some time ago. It was some serious pain for a good half hour. It took a long time to heal. Be careful taking the hook out.
I've eaten sail cats and they are fine, but they have that big head and rib cage so it has to be a big one to be worth keeping. Also they slime everything.
That actually sounds great. I just caught one nice sized lastnight

Bama should have over 1,000,000 subscribers !! Love the vids
No he should have 1,0000,0000,0000
I think it's definitely going to grow to a big number. I just introduced his channel on my FB fishing group
Well, I am doing my part to try to get this awesome channel there!
Yes but he always misses because
He forgets to put "O" Before BAMA.

I was told the same until I ate one myself delicious

Are the saltwater catfish edible down here?
They are actually delicious. I've done a couple videos with them. Southern fried, panko breaded, and even baked in a classier dish. Great every time!
You should do a Croaker catch clean and cook. As far as I'm concerned, they're the best kept secret in all of Mobile Bay !!!!
I did one about a year ago! I need to do another one! th-cam.com/video/FOXygQ6ub_o/w-d-xo.html
definitely my favorite fishing channel the variety is awesome
thanks for another awesome video. keep living your dreams and taking us along. God Bless and stay safe 🙏
3.35am Thursday morning in Panglao Island Philippines. Just woke up and your video was waiting. This was a good one. Keep em coming.
Appreciate this video, good catch when trout or reds aren't biting. I'll take the advice about not eating certain fish, but when a sailcat ate my live mullet I gave them a try. Another right on time video. Always good to watch. Thanks for sharing.
I have eaten some of that breaded and deep fried in Louisiana and I absolutely loved it.
Hope you make it through IAN with no problems. Be safe.
We've been catching some monster sailcats in Biloxi. I think I'll try one next time. Thanks for showing how to clean them!
Mike D your buddy is just blessed I had days like that I took my buddies out I wound up catching all the fish
Thanks man, live on the coast and it's all I seem to catch, but I also bought in to the trash fish discussion. Gonna have to try these
I’m sitting here in Ft Myers wondering when I’ll be able to get back on the boat and fish again. I have a feeling it’s gonna be a bit. Good video man!
I do a lot of fishing on the Chesapeake bay and your videos are extremely helpful you are easily my favorite fishing channel to watch. Thank you
Ever used the lizard fish as bait? In south Florida we pitch them under docks and bridges for Snook & Reds.
I didn’t even know this was posted within the hour! Great video I always heard bad reps about catfish so never tried them
I lived in Florida for 22 years I used to take saltwater sail cats file them down take the skin off then soak in a marinade overnight. The marinade was just spicy Italian dressing equal parts of lime and lemon juice. Then place them on the grill and some garlic butter and enjoy
I just started keeping them sail cats this year and I’ll continue to keep em their good eating! I seen you took the t top of your boat
Caught a lot of Gafftopsail Catfish back in the 60 and 70s over here in Niceville. BOGGY! Good eats.
I remember my cousins paw paw on his mommas side cooked a whole platter of hard heads . Brought them to a kids party. Love your videos, ever since I started watching them I just couldn’t stop😂
Appreciate it man
Gafftop is my favorite fish to use in a tomato based fish stew..
south carolina style
Really nice

@@maxpinson5002 yo I know this was made 2 years ago but me too
awesome video, I have never seen one of those type catfish,it looks good, enjoy your day!
I've thrown back so many of those even after hearing that they were good to eat. I will definitely try one next time I catch one.
This was my first video. I'm a Yankee far from the sea but I'm enthralled with ocean fishing. Great personality too. Sub
Love these videos sense i can fish because of hurricane Ian

Hard head about the only one that don’t taste good.
Hey bud, get you some Bolner's Fiesta " Uncle Chris' Fish Seasoning" It goes great by itself on everything you catch.
In the intercoastal off the coast of Florida. Use the same bait, catch catfish with in 5 minutes every time
After you season em up dredge em in seasoned flour ,egg wash, and panko break crumbs and deep fry, add your favorite tarter sauce or even use some malt vinegar, and French fries 👍
You're from up north, aren't you?
Thank you for your quality videos and positive attitude!
I've never eaten hard heads but I've eaten sail cats lots of times. It's really good.
I love your videos and your personality keep doing u bro don't worry about being perfect
I use to love doing what you're doing my favorite was flounder. I'd make flounder nuggets or flounder sandwich. Or grill with a little hickory smoke.
Yes! It's very hard to go wrong with flounder!
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! ❤️
Cool video. Catfish for dinner. Special meal. Can you try fishing from the dock at your house? Maybe there are redfish or soemthing
Great stuff man! Keep up the good work. Would love to see you do another Croaker video out on Little Lagoon in fort Morgan! I take a trip 2 or 3 times a year out there just to fish the lagoon for monster croaker!

Great recipe. Good eating. Enjoy. Just like Corpus Christi Bay!
I ate my share of freshwater cats when I was a kid, great meals made by my grandmother
We caught a big sailcat the last time we were on Dauphin Island and I fried it up like I would a freshwater cat and it was delicious.
I’m here till Saturday. Let’s go fishing!

Great video man as always
Love the videos. And yes they hurt, I got one stuck just below the knee cap
Great vid. Used to see those on the table here in SC pretty regularly. Now it's against the rules to keep any.
Beautiful yard! Would love to see a catch and cook of whatever you can catch out of it!
Salt water cats, sail cats, or what?
Man! I wish I was fishing!!
That thing you said about the slime being hallucinogenic was an April fools joke from a field and stream that basically grew legs and spread.
I figured something along that lines haha! It's pretty funny
Its worth watching you even while in class

You are not making a mistake by not getting your channel tied up with all of those other Emerald Coast fishing channels.
I've eaten sailfins all my life. Never knew they were not supposed to be good. (I mean, I had heard it, but I never believed it.) Trim the bloodline and trim off the red and you're left with a flaky, tastey piece of fish.

You should try 2 steps cajun season ,very good not salty at all ,the perfect amount of salt
You should check out Landshark's catch and cook hardhead sea cats. 👍
Hey brother you should do a blue gill catch and Cook
Wire cutters make quick work of the fins. Do they get as mushy as a channel cat if you freeze them?
love your vids. your such a good dude. god bless you and mom.
I don't eat the hard heads but a gulf sail cat is so delicious thick white slabs and kinda sweat taste
Caught and ate my share of freshwater catfish, but didn't even know there was a saltwater catfish?..... pretty cool. I'm thinking those filets need to be dipped in a good beer batter and fried, but that's just me.
Yes, 100% wanted to fry them but I have to change up my Catch and Cooks. If it was just me, I'd fry em all haha
I got stuck by a pectoral fin from a sail cat. It was quite some time ago. It was some serious pain for a good half hour. It took a long time to heal. Be careful taking the hook out.
They're not fun when that happens !
A beautiful fish. Can’t really figure out exactly how they can slime up 10 feet of line.
I will not eat hardhead, but I will eat gafftop!
I’m gonna try it thanks for show
Great video! Thanks for sharing. May God bless my friend.
me and my dad would catch them at night on shrimp at 20 to 30 lbs monsters in the gulf horseshoe beach shired island dixie fla
Hey Bama do you ever come down here to Port Aransas TX by chance? Love to meet ya and get a pole in the water!
You need to check into Captain Blair Wiggins addictive fishing he does a lot in around Cocoa Beach you need to check them out
Thanks for showing me a new type of fish - did'nt know this one.....either 😂😎🤔🇩🇰👏
Went out to the bay yesterday, caught like 20 sailcats
I like watching the catch n cooks
That looks really good!❤
Sheeesh nice recipe bama. love ya dude!
In your opinion, what knot works best for combining braid and floro. And doesn’t sound like its ripping your guides off every cast?
I like the FG Knot or Improved Albright for "skinnier knots" but most of the time, I tie a Double Uni
I've eaten sail cats and they are fine, but they have that big head and rib cage so it has to be a big one to be worth keeping. Also they slime everything.
Hello again from your friends in San Diego California
I eat the cats all the time! Bleed them and keep the fish cold, tastes great
Looks awesome! What rod are you using?
Your place is dope you catch crabs in the back yard bay right.
Do you let the jig sit or do you slowly reel it in?
Can’t wait to see u get that TH-cam button.
Good video! I couldn't help but laugh at the end, though.
Nana, that bait looks like a gummy worm(candy)which I have used before and they do catch fish.
I've eaten the sailcatfish before. And they are very good. I've tried the hard head catfish. Word of advice throw them back.
