Hi everyone! I know the lyrics aren't correct-- I made this video before official lyrics came out so everything was by ear. I corrected it using TH-cam annotations, but they're not available on mobile. I tried as best I could and I would like everyone to know you have spoken and I have listened. If you watch on your laptop or desktop the correct lyrics should be there. Thanks :)
I was in shock at the end and I could not even cry but after an hour the tears just started coming out and I was bawling, yet the ending somehow made the story seem realistic, like you can't have everything when u try to achieve ur dreams
just saw this movie and this song was exactly what I needed to hear in my life right now. I am one of those fools who dream and I had just about given up on them completely but this movie reminded me why I love my dreams and why I want to see them made reality. This song reminded me of my life in so many ways and it has really helped me.
Becky Ingraham word! Felt exactly the same way. The movie felt as an ice bucket, cause it reminded me what I fight for. Most bittersweet experience Ive had in a movie theater before. Definetly not a bad thing thou..
My little brother and his girlfriend watched this movie and we’re endlessly obsessed with this soundtrack. Almost 10months later she took her own life. This all happened in 2017. Haven’t heard this song since then nor has he and this reminds me of how happy my little brother use to be back then with her. He’s changed now and hasn’t seen the movie since she was alive. This song piereces me to my very soul.
ezikillz I don’t have words to express my feeling about you’re story. Two of my friends (who was in a relation) make a suicide the last summer during our vacation. They was together since 3 year and was best friends before that. I loose two friends in one summer. I’ m French and my English is bad but I want to say I understand this pain. Be strong, you and your brother.
I think this is my favorite song from La La Land due to the raw emotion put into it. But then again, choosing a favorite La La Land is like a parent trying to choose a favorite child. You just can't really pick a favorite. They're all great.
I love this song because it's a tribute not only to her aunt, but to Sebastian and how both of them helped her to dream and try to achieve them. Also I can't listen to this song without my heart hurting.
Try The Umbrellas of Cherbourg sometime. There have been so many great musicals, and this is really a sampling of many. The golden era of musicals ended long ago. But this is a nice shadow of them.
Sooooo beautiful... my anthem... "here's to the mess we make" "a bit of madness is key" "that's why they need us" OMG.... i think i was the only one in the theater crying my eyes out... can't stop listening to it!!!
For some reason I almost cried. Idk exactly why, there is just something in this song. It’s a masterpiece 100% We need more dreamers in the world, God DIDNT make this earth to have people sit in offices and work 9-5 jobs. I believe we all need to share our gifts and talents with the world, be bold, brave, DREAM. No matter what society thinks. The biggest regret people have when they die is that they never lived. Please don’t be that person!
Thanks for posting this with the lyrics! This movie seriously hit home for me and was scarily relatable... gosh, so intense, but so good. OBSESSED with this song. And the entire score, really. Can't get enough!
I know what you mean. If I remember right, this song was all done in one shot, like "I Dreamed a Dream". Which just makes it so intimate and really adds to what s already such a personal song. Everything about it just works so well.

It's jan 2, 2023. Happy new year, really!! This movie had made me take decisions when I saw in theatre, and now AGAIN.. 🙂🙌
Dear God. This song makes me weep like a baby. I totally almost lost it in the theater when this song started playing and it was barely a few bars in. There is something about this song that touches my soul to its core.
This song instantly reminded me of a Japanese friend of mine and our days in Paris. I think this is the song that deserved the Oscar. Thanks for the lyrics.
How time passes. I used to listen to this back in 2016 and 2017. The lines where she mentioned those who dream and those who suffer from heartache is what hit me the most. This is because I was suffering from loneliness and heartache caused from a break-up. It has been many years since I last listened to this song. I'm glad to say that I'm living a much better life with a wonderful person at my side. Although I got over my heartache and am living a better life, it's good to be back to this song and reflect on how things were.
Sometimes I say to myself, "Nobody writes truly great song lyrics anymore." And I think on the whole, there's truth to that. But then I play this. Just to remind myself there's a lie to it as well. As long as there's dreamers, there'll be somebody out there writing great lyrics. I just may not get to hear them. I'm grateful when I do.
I love this movie. I know the reason I love music as much as I do is because my mom used to watch musical films with me from a young age, I still remember watching The Sound Of Music for the first time with her. If I ever have children, this is what I want them to watch and adore as they grow up, like I did.
I have listened to this song about a hundred times in two days and I can't remember the last time a song has caught me like this one has ! I think that the film is SO spellbinding that it will be watched forever ! I'm about to go for my second viewing of the week tomorrow AT MY INSISTENCE which is a terribly rare occurence !
Recently, a very honourable and favourable guard just passed away in our school. This song makes me remember him... i cried so much when I learned he died- he even had a mass dedicated for him, so ofcourse, I was crying so hard during mass.
I love this song. It was playing in the library, gave me some happy hopeful feelings, feelin less self conscious about dreaming and stumbling around like a lost puppy from time to time.
I heard somebody say "a bit of madness is key" and i didnt know what la la land was at the time, and when i heard her sing it i started crying. i love la la land soooo much i cant explain it ;~;
I used to listen to the music of the movie without actually watching the movie because I really enjoyed it. Now that I watched the film, this song has a completely different meaning to it that I never realised.
my favorite movie, ever. and the best, touching song!! omg this is amazing! who else memorized all the lyrics in this song? or all the songs in the movie? I believe La La Land was the most beautiful musical and movie ever.
Thought the movie was overrated for some silly reason, but when I watched it, it touched my heart. It's a really great movie, that I recommend to everyone, especially to everyone out there who has been misunderstood or underestimated because of their dreams and/or goals. Here's to the fools who dream!
Cuando un artista logra transmitir e La esencia de un sentimiento universal estamos siendo parte de un milagro hermoso. Más allá del idioma y de los tecnicismos. Esta película parte el corazón . Me encanta Mía y Seb por siempre

Kathleen Banks it was perfect! They achieved their dreams and still loved each other, but just in a different way.
@@roamiingroots True. They will always love one another 😊.
That's very well put
I think they did a number on the audience. But the fates repayed them at the Oscars - switch-a-roo!
What makes this even better is that this isn't a studio recording, Emma Stone performed this live on set.
@nasser wiz Well, he's partly right. The scene in the movie was played in front of a live audience.
@nasser wiz Yes. I also know that it was confirmed by the director that that scene was performed live.
I mean that's the best part of la la land in general :)
Still recorded with professional microphones ... lol ...
@@dimitriheaggans1358 Yeah but it's different because it's on set and a lot harder. Take it from a professional actor and composer lol

Was it just me or was this the total high point of the film? I felt like this scene and the emotions it evoked were the pinnacle of La La Land.
correct
Yes. The entire film is based off this performance. The emotion, lyrics, and setting of the entire film connects to this scene.

I never knew Emma stone had such a sweet innocent voice! I adore it! It just makes her seem like a real person and not a star :)

John Nguyen how far I'll go should win
Love Lin-Manuel I love manuel but I didn't like the song tbh
John Nguyen i've never heard anyone call him manuel and we can all have our own opinions
Love Lin-Manuel How Far I'll Go is typical Disney fluff. It's nothing special at all. We Know the Way was better.
Victim of Lag well we know the way wasn't nominated, however i agree. It was a lot more unique from the very beggining
Can you imagine her voicing a Disney female lead? The singing would be beautiful!
Absolutely loved this in the cinema. The bit with bring on the rebels, where she uses her strong voice is simply stunning. Great buildup. Yes Emma!
This summer, many tourists will come to California to visit the La La Land, and many tourists will go to Paris to jump into the Seine...
Nuage Blanc Well the Seine is beautiful but also dirty so..

This song instantly reminded me of a Japanese friend of mine and our days in Paris. I think this is the song that deserved the Oscar. Thanks for the lyrics.
When she first started singing she was singing Seine (river in France)
“Leapt without looking
And tumbled into the Siene”
Of course it should be Seine. Unless she got cold from jumping into a sand :)
Except “Seine” doesn’t mean river in French it’s “rivière” the Seine is the river that crosses into Paris and splits it in half.
This is the most beautiful piece of art I've ever heard ;o;.
Thank you so much, Tana!!! Wonderful movie!!!
Thanks so much, Tana. I really wanted to hear this song again and hear the lyrics clearly.
How time passes. I used to listen to this back in 2016 and 2017. The lines where she mentioned those who dream and those who suffer from heartache is what hit me the most. This was the most beautiful scene in the movie, I realized I was crying when it ended, and boy, they were the most satisfying tears I've shed.
Having Mia and Sebastian end up together would have been a boring, cliche, and bad ending. Change my mind.
I can’t because it’s true
Well to be honest I kinda expected them to break up
So either way it would still be cliche
We got both endings technically so... yeah.
They had to part ways for their own dreams to come true. It's just sad Sebastian got his dream but not a new relationship. Maybe he gets one someday.
Yes but we all wanted it

My aunt used to live in Paris
I remember, she used to come home and tell us these stories about being abroad
And I remember she told us that she jumped into the river once, barefoot
She smiled
Leapt, without looking
And tumbled into the Seine
The water was freezing
She spent a month sneezing
But said she would do it again
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we make
She captured a feeling
Sky with no ceiling
The sunset inside a frame
She lived in her liquor
And died with a flicker
I'll always remember the flame
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we make
She told me
"A bit of madness is key
To give us new colors to see
Who knows where it will lead us?
And that's why they need us"
So bring on the rebels
The ripples from pebbles
The painters, and poets, and plays
And here's to the fools who dream
Crazy as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that break
Here's to the mess we make
I trace it all back to then
Her, and the snow, and the Seine
Smiling through it
She said she'd do it again
😢 still hear it i love the lyrics and her soft emotional song
