    13 months later … I wish
    I. N. E. V. E. R. had left knee replacement surgery.
    My pain is constant….
    My movement is maybe 92degrees…
    My quality of life has diminished significantly.

    My wife had a right knee replacement just over a year ago. She also has RA. The knee was feeling fine with no pain and good range of motion. But then she got a viral infection and was in hospital for 2 days for observation. She's good now but afterwards her knee was extremely stiff getting up, especially in the morning. Thankfully the hospital recommended therapy and she has a therapist come once a week and trys to keep up with her exercises. The problem is, she has arthritis in her left hip and will eventually need hip replacement. Her having RA has made recovery twice as difficult, because some days it's hard for her to exercise. But she tries her best.

      Thank you for sharing. Having a disease like RA can definitely make rehab and recovery more difficult with pain in other areas of the body and other symptoms. I'm happy to hear she is doing ok overall and hope she continues to see the benefits of therapy and continued exercise. Best wishes!

    Why isn’t a mri done to assess chronic pain after tkr? Or perhaps nerve conduction studies could identify issues.
    Like you say, the bone and implant are only part of the picture.
    It seems like, beyond X-rays, there are no further efforts to identify cause. Maybe because there is no solution.😢

      It's my understanding that an MRI would not really add any additional information compared to an x-ray in this situation. A nerve conduction study may be helpful if there is some indication of nerve issues. You also have to consider that you can have pain and not have any structural issues in the knee or surrounding structures. This is particularly common with persistent pain. Your nervous system may continue to communicate pain because of a variety of factors. Think for example if you have a lot of stress and you get a headache.. you have pain but there is nothing structurally damaged or wrong with your head.

    I had total knee replacement May 2023. I'm back at work as of August. Didn't have issues immediately, however, I stand for extended periods of time in the O.R. wearing Sanita/Dansko clogs, to prevent falling arch pain and prevent objects from falling from Mayo stands. Does wearing clogs contribute to pounding trauma on my new knee. Lately I have been having mild discomfort walking and increased stiffness rising from a sitting position. I will ask the surgeon for an x-ray of the right knee in October when the left knee is replaced, but I'm anxious to read your thoughts. You've helped me tremendously through the first knee replacement.

      It's great to hear that you've recovered well from your knee replacement and that you're back at work. Sanita/Dansko clogs are known for their comfort and arch support, which can be beneficial for those on their feet for extended periods.
      It is probably the extended time on your feet, not necessarily the clogs that may be causing some increased discomfort and stiffness. Hopefully, with time your tolerance with your knee and the rest of your body to prolonged standing will improve. You can help this along by trying to maintain some level of physical activity outside of work for muscle strength and endurance, trying to sit and rest if/when you can, and some regular stretching and range of motion exercises can be helpful, too. Hope this helps!

    Thanks somuch I fell very hard on my knee and have had 3 rays since. It definitely hurts. But my X-ray of my TKR looks fine. I appreciate your video on this subject. I’ll pursue more excersing and stretching. I’m pretty active but maybe not active enough. Would you reccomend seeing a PT?

      If you continue to have pain or other issues, seeing a PT may be helpful to perform a personalized assessment and provide you with specific exercises and other potential management strategies.

    I’m five months out and my knee just feels weird. Stiff sometimes, not as enflamed.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is not uncommon, people will often say their new knee feels different than a normal knee, not quite your own knee. This sensation tends to diminish over time but many will always feel the knee just doesn't feel the same but not necessarily painful.

    I'm 13 months after my bilateral TKR. i'm still having pain whn going up n coming down staircase. Is it normal? Walking on flat ground is painless.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a fair amount of people who will continue to have some pain and/or difficulty with stairs at this point. Stairs tend to up some more stress through the knees than normal walking. My best recommendation is to continue other exercises to build strength and practice this stairs frequently, a few times per week, and it should get easier over time.

    I had my left knee replacement 4 months ago, but my scar is still sore, tender, stiffness ...sometimes I feel likes something pulling it. And I have been massaging 2-3 times/day. So plz tell me why and also my knee still has pain sometimes too. Thanks!

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The rate of scar healing is very slow and a lot of it is based on genetics and nothing you can control. There is remodeling and changes to the tissue for up to 2 years, same with the healing of the knee itself. It's beneficial to continue the scar massage but really you just have to continue to give everything time to heal.
