Sevdalinka is a traditional genre of folk music originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The word itself comes from the Ottoman Turkish sevda which refers to a state of being in love, and more specifically to the intense and forlorn longing associated with lovesickness and unrequited love. It features minor second intervals, thus hinting at Oriental makams and the Phrygian mode. As a result, the melodies are noted for leaving a strong melancholic feeling with the listener.
+Đorđe G It was composed by a Serb, so I think there's plenty of culture in the song to represent all of Bosnia and the Balkans, as was shown by the voting in the Balkans.

The first time I heard this song, I don't know a word of the language, and I was shocked that there can be such a beautiful song. Now I know the language, and I find this song even more amazing!
Serbia1544 i koji ste jezik kopirali da napravite taj "srpski" naravno bosanski serbs are bosnian who converted from bosnian church to orthodox religion,
Serbia1544 turkish names and turkish religion? well I haven't met any bosnians with turkish names nor have I ever heard of a turkish religion, dumbass, your the ones with their genes, you should be proud, and "coban" is a turkish word
Serbia1544 I read in the news carried by Večernje novosti, a Serbian newspaper, that an Islamic scholar from Sandžak claimed that Nikola Tesla before his death converted to Islam. The news report called the claim scandalous but there are some out there who believe it's highly credible. With that I want to make the point that religious belief is a personal matter. One shouldn't judge others on their religious beliefs. Even if Bosnjaks WERE Serbs, you shouldn't judge them this way. People make different choices when they face challenges depending on how they comprehend the situation and how they envision their future. The intrusion of the powerful Turks into Bosnia made some locals convert to Islam, which actually turned out to be a reasonable choice considering the historical context. Bosnian Muslims were faced with another difficult choice when the powerful Austro-Hungarian Empire replaced the Turks. Many fleed because they couldn't stand being ruled by Christians and many fought back and still some others suggested that Bosnian Muslims should embrace the new reality and learn to live with that. People view history differently depending on their standing points. I personally think that if you're more open-minded or being an anthropologist when you go over some historical facts, you'll make more interesting discoveries. It's lamentable that the nation or ethnicity building of Western Balkan peoples has often gone awry, but I believe that many of those who are really on the ground and have a stake in the future of their countries have been tired of those futile accusations and don't want to live in the past any more.

This just goes to show that there’s a huge difference in how “eastern” and “western” countries view this event: the Easterners take the whole thing much more seriously and they often send their best whilst western Europe views it as a joke and so, more often than not, they send trash. Remember the cynicism of BBC’s now late Terry Wogan, all humor apart, but some of his comments were outright xenophobic and arrogant...

@@1971caz38 no. It was definitely not the language. This is a great Balkans ballad, but what else did the Balkans countries bring to the table in the ESC back then? Yeah, pretty much nothing. It was a Balkans ballad after the other. Lordi brought monster costumes, over the top pyrotechnics and a catchy hard rock song, nothing even in the same ballpark had ever before been seen on ESC stage. Balkans ballads had their moment in the spotlight exactly one year later though, when a song sang in Serbian won.

Forever in the history of Eurovision among the best songs, if not the best, ever heard or seen there. It is overwhelmingly beautiful, moving and utterly lyrical. Joksimovic and Hari created a masterpiece: people around the world from very different backgrounds recognize its evident value. And that is perhaps what true Art is about, something in the work that is immediately recognizable to all, something we identify very deep as ever-true.
Hari’s delivery was absolutely perfect. Very soft, subtle at the beginning… his innocent smiles that totally win you over anf make you believe this singer is in love. Then the passionate vocals at the end. Also great kudos to Zeljko for actually writing this song, artistic genius!
How can be a single song soo beautiful, with this strong passion, traditional instruments (it feels like the ethnicity itself)... and what an intense building during the whole time! All of these in only three minutes, in only one song. Still listen to it on a regular basis. Moreover, it was my first year of Eurovision and the first song that I voted for which makes this masterpiece even more special to me ❤️ Bravo brati! Pozdravy z České republiky! ❤️

The word itself comes from the Ottoman Turkish sevda which refers to a state of being in love, and more specifically to the intense and forlorn longing associated with lovesickness and unrequited love. I love it when people can enjoy songs they inherently can't understand the words to. Eurovision should be just that. Enjoying the sheer beauty of the music.

O, Bože Sveti… tek sam danas (15.02.'20.) prvi put čula RIJEČI pjesme "Lejla" koju sam godinama pjevušila ovako:
❤️ "U mojoj kosi ruzmarin, na na na na na šadrvana".
Ooo… Kojih li "ubitačnih" riječi, čovječe... Da sam ih znala prije 5g - pješice bih prešla 'sedam mora i sedam gora'… I samo onaj tko me uistinu poznaje - ZNA da bih to i učinila!
The winners were Lordi thosd 4 guys with masks singing hard rock
Yes! Да!!! 🇷🇺👏❤️
The first time I heard this song, I don't know a word of the language, and I was shocked that there can be such a beautiful song. Now I know the language, and I find this song even more amazing!

Serbia1544 i koji ste jezik kopirali da napravite taj "srpski" naravno bosanski
serbs are bosnian who converted from bosnian church to orthodox religion,
Serbia1544 says the guy who doesn't know history but tries to give everyone a lecture

Irfan MandzukaHari should have sang "...i jedan cvijet kraj šadrvana..." in english language.
With bat wings and the fires of hell mwahahahha. Guaranteed victory.
Seriously though both the Finish and Bosnian entry were very good foe their respective styles.
Yes. I agree, the finnish entry was also a masterclass of its own style...Hari and Bosnia just got bad luck by getting them in the same year.
Irfan Mandzuka Should have been dressed*

Lejlaaa zar bi mogla ti , drugog voljeti ?
Bas zajebano.
This song makes me shiver everytime I listen to it, it's so beautiful and mellow, the instruments, Hari's voice... I don't speak the language, but I managed to learn it by phonetics (it's something). I've been a fan of the show since 2005, and though I have missed watching a couple years, I usually catch up with the songs. Hope I can manage to assist to the show someday... hugs from a ESC fan across the Atlantic (Panama)
