Hello Andrew! When I heard the seagulls at the start I was worried you were going to get an unwanted addition to your palette! That was a complicated scene to capture but I really like the end result. Love your mark making techniques.
Music plus charcoal and blade scratching felt very relaxing to me... and your finished work is full of really great texture. Keep those knees strong, Andrew!
I love this one! What a great exercise too: Finding the image out of the loose, expressive marks. I’m going to try it😊 Thank you for these wonderful and inspiring videos.
Your method seems to have a randomness and intent together resulting into a dynamic moving outdoor still life of the potted plants ... Really enjoyed the process!
Although You used a very dark Medium You were able to capture the glowing of the Sun. The Paper had to stand a lot but with good Quality that's no Problem. Was that 300 lbs? It was Fun to watch but the Seagulls shocked me twice with their Yelling. 😄
Thank you Mike The paper wasn't that heavy, I think it was 200gsm or something like that (around 80lbs?). It had a couple of coats of gesso which gave me chance to work into it. The gulls were very loud!
Hi Pamela - I'm not too sure why. I thought it might alter the ink and charcoal more than it did. I like to experiment but next time I will stick to water
I am a beginning charcoaler and I love seeing you work, it's really helpful. The mixtures of media are fascinating. Thanks Andrew
You are so welcome - thank you for support

Interesting process and yet you somehow really captured the dappled light. Well done.

You’re welcome ☺️
Such energy, love it. Because you have used charcoal, would you need to spray with fixative before framing behind glass? Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much Stephen. I try not to to spray fix if I can help it
Oh boy I cringed at the scratchy bits. Yikes! Still lots of awesome Mark making and expiramenting. It was awesome watching this come together
Thank you very much. I enjoyed myself

Why did you spray with turps and not water, please?
Hi Pamela - I'm not too sure why. I thought it might alter the ink and charcoal more than it did. I like to experiment but next time I will stick to water
From where do you get those chunky huge charcoal pieces?
Hi Susan - they are made by Nitram
