So many great albums to choose there. Many are my faves: Shake Some Action, Pices, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones, Hunky Dory, Muswell Hillbillies, Tonight's The Night and Time Fades Away are amazing! (you should find a copy of Neil Young's "On The Beach" to complete the Ditch Trilogy) BTW there's another version of The Buffalo Springfield retrospective that has a 12 minute version of Bluebird (i think it might be the double album version)
I met Richie Havens in the Ninties! He was performing at a small community event in Johnson City TN. He hung out after the performance and met each member of the modest audience and conversed with my small group of enthusiastic friends. He was very kind and I think he was the best interpreter of Dylan. I met Country Joe McDonald a couple years later in Ashville, pretty much the same story. I'm thinking of going to Nashville to try to meet Melanie so I can have the Woodstock triffecta.
Many younger people don't realize that prior to the 1970's almost no one had a pair of headphones. Some people had an earpiece to plug into a transistor radio, but, of course, that was in mono. In 1968 I snagged a set of headphones from a radio station, but they were wired for mono. I rewired them for stereo and I listened to Beggars Banquet for the first time. Later on, when the White Album came out, I was hanging with a buddy who was going to Haverford College and he had the first set of headphones that I ever saw someone else have. And these were high quality stereo headphones! Needless to say it was glorious! So, getting back to the point of this conversation, stereo mixes prior to the 1970's (with few exceptions) were made to be played on stereo consoles, which were large pieces of furniture with a fm radio and record player sunk in the middle with the heavy wooden lid that would be lowered down during play and lifted up to make program changes. On either end of the console would be the left and right speaker, approximately six feet apart. The entire purpose of the mix was to separate the sounds in order to make them clearer to the listeners who would be either sitting on a sofa or chair ten or fifteen feet away or milling about during some party or gathering. The sound would remix in the air and on the whole this worked out fine. The last thing that the sound engineers envisioned was for someone to add a stereo jack and begin to listen on headphones! This is the reason those early mixes sound so bad on headphones. They were never meant to be heard that way!
My sis was in a record club...and got a BSR stereo....it came with a nice set of headphones.....she got Jimi Hendrix smash hits....I listened to "Hey Joe over the headphones....the backup vocals blew my mind....that was in the 60s.
I've heard that when the Stones "Aftermath" came out, Ringo Starr said they should call the next Beatles album "After Geography"...love Vinyl Monday, by the way...
Glad that I was able to help add to your collection Abigail ("Rubber Soul, Blonde on Blonde" etc!) Hope you get lots of pleasure from them-and the other albums I sent! Cheers! Alan.
@@alanclayton9277 Cheers! Just glad to help Abigail with her collection. I don't think Abby has too many UK pressings. UK vinyl in the 1960s was quite a bit better quality than its U.S counterpart. The `Rubber Soul` there, does have a few light marks-but because the vinyl is so durable, it plays superbly, and will play many more times than a 1960s U.S copy. Same for the `Please Please Me` `Butterfly` and `Doughnut` albums. Those are my old copies as I `upgraded` I still have a few more albums to upgrade-and will send Abigail more after Christmas!
When they showed the Sgt Pepper faces in the background, they forgot to include Stu Sutcliffe, the original Beatles bassist who died tragically young, they missed a great opportunity to include him...
I totally understand the reaction to the "Now And Then" video, I felt like technically they were trying to connect the past with the present, which fitted the song, but I got the reaction. I love the song in it's own way, as it feels like the trifecta of "Free As A Bird, Real Love", glad it exists.
“Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” is a great movie! And all that sound in the film of a radio station called 93/KHJ is REAL! R.I.P., Robert W. Morgan and The Real Don Steele.
Abby, I bought a copy of “Pisces,Aquarius,Capricorn and Jones Ltd.” by the Monkees at a flea market for $1.00.I am glad that you got a copy of “Please Please Me” by the Beatles, and I am still raving about their last song “Now and Then.”Plus, I love them Floyd albums.Very good video as usual!!!
I'm old enough to remember that Melanie hit playing on the radio. A crazy song for any era. My sister was a massive Monkees fan and had everything by them, and later the Michael Nesmith vinyl. She also has a singles collection from the era that I want to flip through just for the trip down memory lane. Keep on growin'.
Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. My favorite Monkees album. Great way to start your Monkees collection. Turn Turn Turn might be my favorite Byrds album too. :)
Love Morrison's Moondance. My favorite song is: 'Into the Mystic' Was part of a band that played a lot of his songs, including that one. Look forward to your review of the album!
Bravo on the Paul Anka single! Anka serenaded my 11-year-old self at my very first concert back in the late 70s. That night wasn't just about the music; it was the night our family brought home our first puppy. Such a treasured memory, Abby. Thanks a million! 🐕
So do you plan to somehow stop time itself in order to listen to all of them? 😄 Yes, here’s hoping you can finally shut up the Frank Zappa guy. I see you got the same out of Subdivisions as I did. Beautiful album which builds to a peak of (literal) transcendence.
I'm very excited at the prospect of seeing King Gizzard get covered on the channel. I got into them early last year and they've quickly become one of my favorite bands. Hope you have a good time with nonagon and the rest of their records.
Wow, what friggin' haul! I LOVE your taste in music! I'm 70 years old, and I actually owned many of those albums back in the 1960s (including even the 'Ultimate Spinach'). Of course, they're all long gone now. I'm not currently an album collector, but when I saw you holding up the UK 'Rubber Soul' mono album, I confess that I felt a tinge of jealousy. *sigh* ('Rubber Soul' is my favorite Beatles album. Also, 'Blonde on Blonde' is my favorite Dylan.) Back in the day, I was just old enough to attend a few rock concerts in the late-60s/early-70s, for example, I got to see Cream live in '67, and the Who at their peak (the 'Who's Next' tour in '71). Oh, the memories...
I probably should've said this on the mc5 video but your hair on the thumbnail was so pretty. My family for years always had me cut my hair short and it was hard to get a comb through it. It made me kinda resent it. I thought my hair was just a freak genetic accident down here in Florida but that thumbnail reminded me how beautiful that hair is, how awesome the mc5 is and why that expression is important. Thank you.
Favourite album, without a doubt Lovely Lady, is The Guess Who - So Long Bannatyne (Check out Pain Train and Sour Suite). The title track is the best Canadian Blues ever recorded, honest!
Dude, I really dig the dress! I'm so jealous of you right now with all these albums, lol. Eric recorded his first solo album after Delaney and Friends and in fact, Delaney was producing the album (I think he got kicked off it though) and pretty much helped Clapton learn how to sing on it. Try Nikhil Banerjee's "Malgunji 1980, I like Ravi Shankar but I think Banerjee is better, at least on this album. When I first started meditating, I would meditate with Metalica's "Orion" stuck on a loop.
The other classic Butterfield Blues Band album is "East West", which is considered their masterpiece. Cover has the band standing between 2 giant goddess statues. They even cover a Mike Nesmith song called "Mary Mary", almost a year before the Monkees recorded their version....
Richie Havens is so underrated. A beautiful soul. The "first record" is actually some demos that were rushed out under dubious circs after Woodstock IIRC, along with Electric Havens. Both are amazing despite (because of?) being bare bones. And "Look out for my love" is absolutely up there as S Tier Neil. Definitely a top ten song, though with Neil there is a lot of competition!
Hi Abigail what a great bunch of records. Fun fact in the Uk they didn't shrink wrap records the covers would be in the store in boxes you could look threw and the record was behind the counter they would put them together when you bought it. Not sure why theft prevention maybe?
You did well to get them original UK Beatles/Dylan albums, Abby - Over here in Britain, near mint copies can go for an absolute fortune! (triple figures). I've been meaning to send you some subscriber mail as well - there's lots of great bands from Britain that in the US are practically unknown or are less popular - Slade, Status Quo, Roxy Music, Sparks, The Jam, Groundhogs, 10CC etc.... If there are any particular bands that are hard to get in the US, please tell me and I'll see if I can get some of their records together for you.
Wow , some incredible records there. I’ve probably shown about 40% of those on my channel. The version of ‘What Goes On’ on Velvet Underground Live 69 is about as good as it gets. Great video.
At a school dance in the early seventies I fell under the insouciant, blue eye shadow rimmed gaze of three glam goddesses. Leaning on the the stage and taping their platform shoes to Bowie. Forward to late 77 and I was a nasty little teen punk rocker fast becoming disillusioned with the pantomime joke it all became. I saw Bowies performance of Heroes and my life changed. Forward again and I'm in recovering after heart surgery. I hear Sound and Vision on the radio and know I'm going to be alright. Gee I miss Bowie.
I picked up the now and then single last Friday and this Friday went in Walmart at 7am they had both blue and red on cd but only the blue on vinyl and only 1 copy it jumped in my hands and went to work dying to listen here I am just got home and instead of playing it I see your new Beatles haul and had to come check it out
Ahhhh!!! Lucy Godbless!🙌🏽🎉 FINALLY the Monkees trek has begun with their arguably greatest album! The bonafide classic Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones LTD!!! 🩵💜💚
I love yellow submarine. My dad would put it on so much as a child also mono is better.if your also expanding the jazz collection ryo Fukui is a great pianist from Japan with an outstanding record
Glad you got a copy of "Zuma" with the real cover, but I bet the one I sent sounds better. I'm also happy you're getting more Kinks, my favorite band. If you need a copy of "Soap Opera," I have two. Critics slag that one, but I love it so much that when I got the chance to meet Ray Davies and get one thing autographed, I could have picked something far more collectible, but that's what I chose. It's always funny to me to hear you talk about how rare, expensive and sought-after some of these albums are. I picked them up when you could find them in every garage sale and cutout bin for $1.99. That's how I became a Guess Who fan: by buying all their great but low-selling albums like "So Long, Bannatyne" and "Rockin'" at Woolco for two bucks. I'm glad you now have the Clash's debut LP (which I prefer to "London Calling.") Now I don't have to send you mine, which is a promo signed by the entire band that I hope will pay for my retirement someday. Also, check out "New Sensations," one of my favorite Lou Reed albums (it's a bit more commercial, but sue me, I like catchy tunes.) Finally, I'm still scouring my garage for "Walk Away Renee." I know I've got it somewhere! If I can ever find it, it will be winging its way to you. It needs a good home where it will be appreciated.
Just got my first record player! First full Album I listened to was the original (very used) pressing my parents had of Thriller. Amazing album, shitty scratched vinyl. Love it. Thanks for sharing your love of Vinyl and Albums because it was a big part of me getting into all that.
Awesome haul of vinyl !!..love much of the classic stuff but if I had to choose favorites: both of the Mamas & Papas due to both being huge part of my early childhood and still love to this day. Check out the Melanie song Lay Down (Candles in the Rain) ..a collaboration with the Edwin Hawkins Singers. 😊 Oh!! Subdivisions still gives me the feels even after all of these years.
Your pronunciation of Bannatyne is correct.....the title of that Guess Who album refers to the neighborhood in Winnipeg, Canada thar members of the band grew up in....I lived part of my early childhood in a neghborhood halfway across the city......I'm old enough to remember the commerative license plate that adorns the antique Chevy pictured on the cover..😊
"Cope. Cope harder. Cope hardest." made me laugh so hard. I'm a massive music snob but goddamn do I love her lyricism. She's such an incredible songwriter and the rest of the world needs to LEARN!
hey Abby, love the phone numbers on the inner sleeve - one of my favourite vinyls had a child's drawing of a horse tucked into the gatefold where the vinyl was - got to love these happy accidental finds !!
I love the Lou Reed and Kinks albums best. I don't have any vinyl now but the most unique one I used to have was the 1980 "True Colours" by Split Enz, it was black vinyl but had laser etched designs on it. You can see it on the Wikipedia page. Favorite track from Dylan's "Self Portrait" is his cover of 'The Boxer' in which he "harmonizes" with himself using his Okie and country crooner voices. Always makes me smile.
PERKS WAS MY INTRODUCTION TO BOWIE! i'd heard some of his music beforehand, but it's because of hearing heroes on perks i decided to give him a chance!
You got some awesome stuff in there. I could go on and on but for now I'll just let you know that the studio side of Love Live&Studio is a condensed version of their double album OUT HERE. Keep rockin!
Good to see you and your ever-growing collection again! Slightly bummed that you didn't find Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock, after all, they are practically impossible to find in record shops, but they are out there somewhere. In my opinion, it's best if they're covered together in one video cos they're technically sister albums and the story of the final album is a continuation from the fallout of Eden's release.
Great acquisitions! I really like seeing your OG USA copy of Then Play On. Owning the different issues of this album is fun because each is a unique listening experience. Really love how side 1 of your OG ends with the meditative "Underway"
I really like Now and Then, of course it's no A Day in the Life, but it's beautiful, poignant and a fits well in the "Beatles last song" theme. I appreciate that they didn't try to make it sound like a song straight up from Abbey Road, it sounds somewhat modern, like a glimpse at what a 2023 Beatles record would sound like. However, I've had a similar reaction to the video. That moment when Paul and Ringo appear singing side by side was a bit too much uncanny valley as it's SO obvious that Ringo isn't actually there hahaha but the 1995 Anthology footage and the way Peter Jackson mixed their old Hello Goodbye videos with the modern shots was so nice (and funny!). It fits perfectly the overarching concept of "now and then". I must say that I like the video better every time I watch it again. It's the Beatles, they always get me in the end. And they got me again when that absolutely GORGEOUS mono 1966 Rubber Soul showed up, I've got two pretty knackered copies and never thought I would see one in such a good condition (except on Parlogram Auctions or something like that). Amazing! The US Aftermath was solid as well. It's a shame that you either have to pick the US for Paint it Black or UK for Mother's Little Helper. Loved the Byrds records as well, they are so hard to come by here. I have only found that Greatest Hits collection and it wasn't cheap.
so Abigail! quite a haul of vinyl! thumbs up on oscar peterson and buffalo springfield! dylans self portrait... its not that bad (you said) ,how bad is it? i have a number of dylan albums mostly on cd, but ive never been tempted to get self portrait.
What a great haul! Ultimate Spinach! Love that album. I think I own 90% of the albums you showed here. Cool to see King Gizz and The Guess Who in there.
Some good albums pickup have some of them you mentioned Michael Nesmith I have one album Nevada Fighter like to get more of his albums someday he did a good job on Patsy Cline I Fall To Pieces enjoyed playing all your albums.
The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band feature humorists Viv Stanshall (master of ceremonies for the original Tubular Bells) and Neil Innes (regular Monty Python collaborator/song writer, also of the Rutles which is worth a dive into, no one can poke that sort of fun at the Beatles without having a love for them). Best known for the hit "I'm the Urban spaceman".
apologies for the lighting (but i think we FINALLY figured out mic placement!) what’s your favorite album of the bunch? comment below!
So many great albums to choose there. Many are my faves: Shake Some Action, Pices, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones, Hunky Dory, Muswell Hillbillies, Tonight's The Night and Time Fades Away are amazing! (you should find a copy of Neil Young's "On The Beach" to complete the Ditch Trilogy)
BTW there's another version of The Buffalo Springfield retrospective that has a 12 minute version of Bluebird (i think it might be the double album version)
Hi...The Tyler, the Creator album is neat.
THEN PLAY ON on and on and on and on,↙️
then I saw the mono Rubber Soul,↙️
the Animals had the same accent as I have so, all respect ( whey aye man)
blonde on blonde my fave of those. you got lots of good ones tho. get busy now! no dont get busy try and relax.

"London Calling", a great choice.
Frank Zappa Shiek Yerbouti is classic!
Thumbs Up 👍 To The Nancy Sinatra Pink 💕 Album ! ( Love her on Some Velvet Morning With Lee Hazelwood ..which Slowdive covered )
Fave Jeff Beck album is Truth, would love to see an episode on that album. Miss Beck dearly
And yes, Mr. Young's "Look Out For My Love" is a dagger through the heart without question.
Dude, I totally agree with you on the early-stereo-mixes-and-especially-wide-panning thing.
Neil Young, Paul Anka, Oscar Peterson, Joni, Rush, The Guess Who, The Band… are you secretly Canadian?
I totally understand the reaction to the "Now And Then" video, I felt like technically they were trying to connect the past with the present, which fitted the song, but I got the reaction. I love the song in it's own way, as it feels like the trifecta of "Free As A Bird, Real Love", glad it exists.

thank YOU don! the record got to me the day i posted this, safe and sound. it sounds great!
“Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” is a great movie! And all that sound in the film of a radio station called 93/KHJ is REAL! R.I.P., Robert W. Morgan and The Real Don Steele.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is unironically my favorite of his films. Good to see MC5 getting that kind of coverage.
When I was a teen at college in the 80s I had all Lou Reed’s albums on vinyl.
Add “It’s gonna look great on my white slip mat” to the list of classic Ab lines!
I'm old enough to remember that Melanie hit playing on the radio. A crazy song for any era. My sister was a massive Monkees fan and had everything by them, and later the Michael Nesmith vinyl. The only band that matters
The clash 😎
I am glad you got to one of the other Box's I sent you Enjoy all your new albums.😀
thank you so much!
you are very welcome@@abigaildevoe
Hunky Dory is one of the best! I recommend tracking down the Rykodisk release from 1990 as well for its bonus tracks.
17:00 omg you got the first Cooper band album! I think most Cooper fans don’t even know that album exists

Definitely give "So Long Bannatyne" a listen. The wackiest, and my favorite, Guess Who album.
I've been listening to the Flamin' Groovies record a bit here lately. It's an autumn record for me.
Beatles no 1 in the UK today
ABIE.....Neil Sedaka. Underatted - "Bad Blood" (1975) Also, any Elton?
I love this channel so much 🎉
Big King Gizzard fan. For 60s era psych, try "Float Along-Fill Your Lungs" and for 70s style boogie rock, try "Fishin' for Fishies".
You've got some real fine stuff in there.

Oh damn you lucky duck! Great finds! Thanks for sharing :)
as an OG fan it's so cool to see how well that MC5 video is doing, you absolutely deserve it!
Beck - Stereopathetic Soulmanure (1994)
it's an eclectic masterpiece.
Got some good stuff there, I’d always love Lou Reed’s first, many ain’t keen and Buffalo Springfield! Wonderful.

Yesterday's Papers is great. I binge watched all of them!

Of all the albums you presented my favorite is a toss-up between David Bowie "Heroes" or The Velvet Underground & Nico "s/t".
Richie Havens is so underrated. A beautiful soul. The "first record" is actually some demos that were rushed out under dubious circs after Woodstock IIRC, along with Electric Havens. Both are amazing despite (because of?) being bare bones.

It had two different covers, too. Douglas Records.
His remake of the Beatles here comes the sun is really great
Loved seeing "Songs for Beginners" and The Hollies! What can I say, I'm a Nash girlie at heart
So glad you’re there! I thought you were on vacation this week 😁✌🏻
Always makes me smile. Thank you
Nice score...you go on with your wax girl....lots of new subject matter for future Vinyl Mondays........

good for you Abby, kinks and paul butterfield, blonde on blonde and rubber soul! christmas come early!
You went bonkers for MC5...ha ha
Great haul!! Happy listening 😁👍🏻
BTW, I know "Squeeze" doesn't count, but I did cover that one on the show, haha

Oh!! Subdivisions still gives me the feels even after all of these years.
Got to love KGLW, Paper Mache dream balloon one of my favs.
First time watching the channel!! Love your 60s flower girl look!! Will have to keep watching!!
Your pronunciation of Bannatyne is correct.....the title of that Guess Who album refers to the neighborhood in Winnipeg, Canada thar members of the band grew up in....I lived part of my early childhood in a neghborhood halfway across the city......I'm old enough to remember the commerative license plate that adorns the antique Chevy pictured on the cover..😊
no way i never get this stuff right!! thank you haha
"Cope. Cope harder. Cope hardest." made me laugh so hard. I'm a massive music snob but goddamn do I love her lyricism. She's such an incredible songwriter and the rest of the world needs to LEARN!
I'd love to have every song that was ever recorded by The Beatles in Mono.
hey Abby, love the phone numbers on the inner sleeve - one of my favourite vinyls had a child's drawing of a horse tucked into the gatefold where the vinyl was - got to love these happy accidental finds !!
Congrats on the radio gig Abby.🎉 One hit wonders of the 60s a really good stream. So many strings to your bow.
You got some awesome stuff in there. I could go on and on but for now I'll just let you know that the studio side of Love Live&Studio is a condensed version of their double album OUT HERE. Keep rockin!
Wow! First time I've seen CanCon on this channel. Paul Anka's a true original.
Pretties For You for 20 bucks!!!? Outstanding!
right?? i couldn’t pass it up
I have a "Relics" bottle opener. Great to see Zappa.
Super stuff Abigail ...makes me want to re-evaluate my records and of course go out on the hunt for more !!! Simon
You NEW ANNOUNCEMENT is your GETTING MARRIED !!! Congratulations ABBY !!! 🎈🎉🕍🍾🍾😉😉
LOL absolutely not
Good to see you and your ever-growing collection again!
When I was going through my later teenage "artist" phase I was totally into Roger Dean and was trying to duplicate his technique. Love Roger Dean!
Neil Innes was the musical genius behind “The Rutles”. If you don’t know what that is, don’t worry. It’ll all be over soon.
Lots of great scores. After you do Moondance by Van Morrison you should do his best record when you find it. Im referring to Veedon Fleece...
Also great scores on Gather Ho and The Magicians Birthday!
TV memory-Blue Cheer thrashing before the world's biggest Marshall amps.
