  • Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, says he pities President Bola Tinubu if he approves an “unsustainable” minimum wage for workers in the country.
    The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) warned that not all state governments and the Organised Private Sector can pay the ₦62,000 being proposed by the Federal Government and the ₦250,000 demand of the Organised Labour.
    Soludo, who was Speaker from 2015 to 2019, made at The Platform Nigeria, a programme by Lagos-based church, Covenant Nation, to mark the 2024 Democracy Day.

      Senators are like directors of a big company. It is against the principle of management to put people in charge of your resources and not remunerate them well. You might end up losing more than you intend to save.
      In O'level Economics, entrepreneurs and Labour are not classified together. The entrepreneurs in O'level Economics stand for directors in companies and senators , governors, ministers, etc in government.
      It is a misnomer and against the principles and laws of management to try to put directors of companies on the same scale as the regular employees. Same applies in politics.

      The cost of governance is actually the cost of running the civil service. You seem to have been confused by the numerous olodo analysts in the media.
      The amount that the people in government earns is not up to five percent of the total cost of running the civil service. There is so much misinformation out there.

    The Senate and house of Rep should be reduced to a committee altogether. The work of a Senator and Rep members should be part-time. The waste of public funds is way too much.
    Meanwhile, the main issue is that there remain the absence of trust between the people and officials on every level. The moment officials become more responsible with public funds, we would be able to truly repair our country

    People forgot that this government of Bola Thiefnubu is the cause of all the current suffering and economic meltdown in Nigeria, which led to labour talking about increase in minimum wage. The 70 years old man just to boast that he hit the ground running from the first day, he removed subsidy at his inauguration without even knowing the consequences and without knowing the country's balance sheet. The man went further to make policies of naira unification which finally drowned the economy by the USA dollar crippling the naira.

    50 percent reduction of presidency and NASS expenditure
    Workers earning less than 6000 naira a month should pay no taxes
    Students with family income of less than 120000 a month should not pay a dime for tertiary education
    Federal government should stop monthly allocation to states once they fail to pay their workers
    All government agencies should buy made in Nigeria vehicles
    No international trips for all government functionaries for the next one year
    The Lagos- Calabar road should continue only after at least 2 dysfunctional roads in each of the 6 regions has been rehabilitated
    CNG buses should be made available to all the 36 states within a month
    Provide security to farmers especially those producing staple food products

      We have 360 house members plus 109 senators,let assume they all earn 33 million naira per month multiply by 469 members gives about 16 billion naira per month.
      If you share 16 billion naira to all the 36 states in Nigeria,each states get 444 million naira extra every month.That amount is very small to support a living wage in Nigeria.
      Let's take akwaibom state for instance the government recently paid 20,000 naira to all the 52,000 civil servants in the state,that paltry 20,00naira cost the govt 1 billionaire naira.
      The truth though is bitter is that Nigeria is a very poor country,why the corrupt national legislature misappropriate jumbo salary to themselves is because they are very few in number,if we had like say 40,000 house of assembly members, their salaries too will be poor.

    I just saw this clip. Severe mistakes had been made when our government had paved way for foreign government to come and establish in Nigeria. It is wrong. The right thing to do is to negotiate on what they wanted to give Nigeria and how Nigeria is going to benefit in their own home country so that we will still have our country saved from becoming salvaged. To give minimum wage to workers in Nigeria is very easy if we have a holistic honest demographic exercise. It is easy for our ministers to steal money from the government coffer, give them to relatives or friends and take it/them somewhere secure for their own interest. The reason why country like UK or western countries is because they have good record keeping of their citizens. Nigeria is already confused as this requires urgent purge now. This man talking is a bloody liar and he is not addressing the issue being a governor. Nigeria cannot be using Federalism like USA and ruling on Parliamentarian style of government. Please think. Nothing has to do with churches, where government has failed the churches is the only consolation to citizens because of Jesus.

    The government knows what they're doing... As I'm listening to soludo speak 🗣️, i clearly see that the hunger in the land is intentional. So, he knows all the stats. Yet, hunger keeps up going up in the land.
    The speech he made there's no concern about the masses. He's just being defensive towards himself and the government (It's much expected as a politician). When politicians talk, they pour out wisdom but if you look deep you will realize they are just feeding you with what you want to hear.
    This man should have come up with a reason behind the current situation of the country and a solution to it. Not telling us about the total revenue generated by both state and federal.
    It pains me so much 😢, that tis people we call our leaders don't even have a glimpse of what the citizens are passing through..
    Is not as if they struggle to feed or transport themselves around. How can they really understand.
    The only way, for them to understand is if everyone comes down to the same level which is not possible.

      I think average Nigerians are too emotional. You can see the minimum wage issue small scale business will suffer more. Most will collapse cos they can’t pay or afford it. What Nigeria need is reduce inflation, fix power and regulate the prices if commodities. Minimum wage is not about the government but rather the masses. That been said Nigeria must be disintegrated to smaller countries for things to work😊

    • @tonero8562
      @tonero8562 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The small businesses are already suffering. People are already scrambling for survival. It's not really easy out there. The masses are already suffering. So as it stands the minimum wage is very necessary now because people's endurance level is over stretched already, they can't bear the suffering anymore. One can argue that it can get worse once minimum wage is increased but no one cares because people need some kind of instant relief now before it gets worse again.
      Though you ended it well by saying the actual truth and solution. The only way out of all these mess created by our evil and corrupt politicians is to disintegrate this entity to smaller nations. Let everyone go and develop at their own pace.

    • @olabisiowoyemi7544
      @olabisiowoyemi7544 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But when obi was Governor of Anambra state he could not increase the salaries of public servants in Anambra , rather he sacked over 3,000 workers, most of which were Non- indigenes of Anambra state. Is it that same obi that would increase salaries of federal workers?, with what strategy?, strategy that he could not deploy and make use of when he was Governor of Anambra. My dear the issue is huge. I support the motion for an increase in public workers' salaries but what is sustainable should be agreed upon. Don't forget that increase in salaries = to increased inflation, the private sector can also not afford it cos workers in the private sector are more. What about those that are self employed & those that are jobless, who gives them minimum wage?. All these individuals will also face the more hardship in the country, due to higher inflation of prices of goods & services. There will be a ripple effects. However Govt should cut down on their own costs of Governance too. What they get is too much really. But we really need to understand this issue of increase in salaries very well.
