Your wife reminds me of my mum. My mum, Roman born of Sicillian stock, lived in the Uk for 40 years working as a teacher and married to my dad who was a Geordie. It is such a nice combination of british politeness and italian freshness especially when her hands start to speak louder or more than she herself. Love these moments when she comes in from the side and brings total different points of views for example in the A2A heatpump video(s) cause she has different points she looks and cares for then Andrew, quite often most surprising moments and details I would not have thought about. But you whole long distance trip was full of unused battery capacity cause you arrive at quite high SOC and had lots of charges therefore even though you had the ABRP app as your route travel and charge planner that can provide a lot better charging points cause if you have still 42% at the ionity charger left you should be able to reach the next ionity too considering 42% x 60 kWh or more equals about 100 km of range left to make it to the next ionity charger. We have a lot of fun if you both are discussing a topic from all the different pov and considerations that cover something so complex like an A2A heatpump fully - still remember the italian judgement about the Toshiba Heatpump manufacturer support she had called for her basic questions and she had been quite unhappy with their stupid answers to ask you local dealer or workshop to get the answers - which usually offers 5 to 10 brands and is not capable to answer all questions to 1 brand and 1 specific heatpump model.
Thank you Andrew. I've just watched parts 1 & 2 at your Italian trip. I have Italian family, travelled to Italy many times in ICE cars before COVID. We took many routes, though mostly refuelling in Luxembourg, it was so cheap. Crossing the Italian boarder I favoured the Gottardo tunnel as it's free, crossing into Italy by Lake Como is beautiful, also the motorways round Milan a great fun! My next trip will be in an IONIQ 5, due to be delivered in November. I nearly bought a Tesla as the driving and charging experience I know, would be a lot smoother driving to Italy. Though I nearly injured myself when I fell off my chair after being quoted the car insurance premium! I got some good tips from your video, thank you. I've been driving electric for near on two years now. When talking to people about the pros and cons of electric cars, I find they fall into two categories, the askers and the staters. The askers I'm happy to have a conversation, they ask question of interest and possibly thinking of converting to an electric car. The staters. I don't engage with. They will ALWAYS have a reason why electric cars are rubbish. Engaging with these people is just a waste of energy.
Thanks for another lovely video, Andrew. Just one point, I don't like the stop button on any charger, someone could press it while you are away from the car and you wouldn't know until you got back to the car! I like the Instavolt method of contactless credit card to start and stop the charging.
Thats the thing right. People MAKE it an inconvenience because they don't plan well. I myself don't like driving longer than 2 hours straight. I need a break. So I align it with my ev and the charging. 2 hours is roughly 150 miles. So it goes from 100 to maybe 50.. and then it takes half an hour to charge while I rest. I see no issue with that.
Loved the soup interlude! Will be trying that with my two girls and if it goes well, may send an extra thank you your way! I've watched quite a few EV road trip videos and this is a masterclass, thank you for sharing, you are all lovely. P.S. Would be interested in a link or spelling of the pizza place mentioned.
Miss EV saying "I couldn't care less" in Italian when you were telling your avid viewers how much battery you had when you arrived. She really is a mini Mrs EV sometimes 😆
In the car with pets?! We have two dogs. One loves the car. The other not. The only way I can get my Corgi Jack mix, Paco, to relax in the car is give him a very long walk before going in the car. This helps a lot. You will want to walk your Baby for at least an hour each morning (while travelling) He will enjoy his ride much more. BTW, Your return trip is a GREAT video! Was good to see your EV family again!!🥰 Greetings from the Midwest of U.S.!!!
Thanks for the suggestion, Kathryn! That may explain why Baby seemed to sleep better on the trip going down to Italy as I think I gave longer walks then.
As ever, informative and very amusing. Mr and Mrs EV are charming and a great double act in TH-cam entertainment, although it has to be said that Mrs EV was obviously tired and consequently rather impatience towards the end of the trip. Bless her. I sort of understand, but do always have the bigger picture in my mind, at all times. Every little cut in CO2 emissions counts to help the global problem … and even now in the midst of the energy crisis EV’s are still significantly cheaper to run … and even if you are a very impatient business person on the road every day, who only ever charges at public charging points, you will still get subsidy from your company or, if you are self employed, you will get a healthy allowance against your tax liability from HMRC. I rest my case 😊
What a great blog, thankyou!. I just loved to interaction between you and your wife and the points of view on both sides and your daughter taking it all in. There is only one thing for it;... a hydrogen powered car. Haha!
Amazing to see Viareggio in the late winter. Been going there in the summer since 1970. Have downloaded the remainder to watch on my 5 hour flight tomorrow. 👍
Regarding the argument of EVs against petrol, some of the perks are beneficial for our kids. Fumes in petrol stations aren't good for them probably. If we're all driving EVs, they won't have to breath in so many particulates from cars travelling around us. Having breaks every few hours means safer driving as we're going to concentrate better and be less tired. An EV is generally safer as lower center of gravity and no engine taking up crumple area. I'm sure there's more. Think of the children! :D
I drove my EV from UK to the Alps. I love my EV but agree with Flaviana that EV charging is still inconvenient. Stopping to charge revolves around the car & placement of super fast chargers on the route. If there were banks of 150+kW chargers along all the motorways as commonly as petrol, it might be much better. If we can drive from 80/90% down to 10/15% EVERY time it would be great. But you have to stop to charge tactically - sometimes when the battery is still as high as 40%. I’ll be happier when I’m charging at 1MW and it takes 5 mins to get 200+ miles of range.
Unfortunately, much (definitely not all, but a significant portion) of that particulate matter comes from tire abrasion, meaning that the real way to solve the issue is to reduce tire abrasion.
I am missing the argument that driving an EV is way more climate friendly than an ICE car, depending on mileage and mix of energy. It also is 4 times more efficient.
Well that was worth waiting for, what a lovely surprise! I started watching last night and finished this morning. Great fun, love the recipes Flaviana. We have no kids and can't use lardons (veggies only for us) so maybe just a little extra seasoning would be good I think. Love the rant, we know you care about the climate really.🤪 Such good fun, can't wait for the next one...but we will of course...😂👍
Andrew again Flaviana has everyone in our house laughing, a family trip across Europe descends into an introductory lesson to home cooking followed by an expert rant petrol versus electric all the way across France, superb, and the merits of Italian Pizza which according to Flaviana is just bread with condiments on top, excellent 1 hour 30 minute movie, actually watched it last night, better than netflix or Amazon, keep doing these please Andrew best wishes Gina and Pete Ioniq 5 owners.
Magna Pizza in Via Magnagrecia, Roma is now on my holiday itinerary. I was expecting a little more about the Ioniq 5, but Mr.Electric Poo is so much better.
Really enjoying this video, beautiful scenery mixed with food and great interaction between you and your wife. Its the first time ive seen your Zen like personage slip a bit at the start too, very funny. Love the strong opinions like “I hate pizza!” The car seems perfect for space, quietness and ease of charging for such a long journey too, you are convincing me to get hold of one now. Im half way through your video and im off for a recharge myself, catch the rest later, keep it up.
The exhausted couple. Deep down you know Flaviana was right on most of that. That's what's so gutting. Plus someone said "let her do it in a FIAT". Sure, a 124 Spider or a Barchetta or a Coupe 20v turbo. I'm sure any of those would be more fun. However, it would still not cost less than an Electric. Have an awesome day.
Update 2: I laughed out loud when this became a cooking show. I expected her to just name the things she puts in the soup. But when the videos started, milk came out of my nose.
Great been waiting for this only just put it on so hoping its as good as part 1 its my Daughters fav vid at mo she loves the bit when you catch your head on sun visor in Northern France at the toll booth
Fantastic makes me want to do a log road trip have to made do with my mini trip in Oct From Hull to Rotterdam drive to Sunparks Belgium then Dunkirk to Calais back to Staffordshire in our Kona EV
Great video love the family & the dog, my wife would agree with your wife, that’s the only way she gets me to eat vegetables, and i am 71😀 a very balanced video. Have to say I lean to your opinion, albeit haven’t ventured as far as you in my EV👍🏻
I've just found Ur channel, as I am getting eNiro soon and I was looking for some common faults to be aware of. Ur 12V videos started to pop out like mad :)) Great channel, great EV journeys, great explainations! Travelling with grumpy family... yeah... talk to me ;) All the best Sir! Thanks for testing e-Niro to the point, I am now 101% sold to it :)
Congratulations! Very exciting! Make sure you get the dealer to put on the latest update before you get it - another viewer has told me there's now battery preconditioning so when you navigate to a rapid charger, it makes sure you get fast speeds even in cold weather.
Really helpful video. I was watching out for Chademo chargers the whole time. I am doing Switzerland to Hampshire at Christmas in my 40Kw Leaf. I didn’t realise every Ionity in France has a Chademo plug. Also it was interesting to see the backtracking at ionity Barella. I have done the journey before. In an ICE it’s 12 hours, in the leaf it’s 20 hours. I agree with your wife, during school holidays, the added travel time is a pain the arse. Thanks for sharing though. It has helped me very much.
I’m going to put the grand rant down at least in part to tiredness. Over three days most stops were lunch or hotel and only a couple of charge only - and many/most can benefit from the break. even if they’re used to driving through it isn’t always healthy. Yes a little inconvenient at the moment while things evolve but not hard to live with really
Excellent trip videos. I'm a very patient man with all my wife's little whims and moans, but you take it to a whole new level of patience. I think it's down to the italian temperament, but your wife also takes whims and moans to a whole new level. Electric yacht just to keep moving and avoiding neighbours 😂😂 I hope you win millions and millions on the lottery to make your life a bit easier.
1:07:24 - worry not, if you don't know the left and right, Ioniq 5 has you covered! If you fold down the sun shield, on the hinge it will have a marking "R" for right side, and on the other side the hinge will have the marking "L" for left side. So now, if you get lost, you can always know where is left and right!
Great to see the Ioniq 5 again. It was such a cliffhanger to wait for this video. :D Greetings from the Philippines; I hope you and your family are well.
love to watch this - as a family of 5 in a hybrid car, I often have to pre-book hotels as we cannot find somewhere (in budget) to accomodate us all, and mostly they do not have a type 2 charger near for a few hours of loading. I might get a full EV and this was a good idea of what to expect with stops.
Have watched many of your videos. Always enjoy your down to earth and realistic presentation. But more recently you look worn out and thin compared to your very early videos. Take care of your health (body + mind). Tesla model Y is the perfect car for such a long distance travel. Look forward to your future videos. Please do a video on V2L.
Both of these videos Brilliant, have been waiting for part two for awhile have not been disappointed, more videos from you Andrew about your EV adventure, we need a lot more of the public to buy EV vehicles, cars and trucks, more ultra fast charging stations so the potetial buyers of EV can see you can drive anywhere like a ICE polluting vehicle. Please keep producing your videos, Great work.
Andrew, you were remarkably restrained when Flaviana was going on about having to stop to charge! But please explain to her that the quickest way to health problems, back and circulatory, is to drive for 4 hours without stopping! Six hours even worse! Hence the advice for air passengers is to get up and move around regularly to avoid DVT during a flight! Even a short haul to Rome! When driving, stopping for 30 -40 mins every couple of hours is beneficial to her health! This rush to get places is rubbish! Electric vehicles, not only are they better for the environment but also for your health!
@@MrEV When I had my knee replacement, I wanted to get over to my place in France as soon after the op as possible! My surgeon agreed to help with the speed of the physio on one proviso. On my drive down, - 400 miles from Dieppe - I had to agree to stop for 15 mins every hour, get out of the car and walk around, i.e. exercise my knee joint. I willingly agreed and I did stop every hour, in a layby or Aire and take that 15 min break. The amazing - to me - was that I felt much better on arrival, I wasn't as tired as I would have normally been. I have done that ever since. With the I-Pace that 15 mins break of one hour of driving is ev charging time now! To be honest I hear all the time 'I can fill the car with fuel and drive for nearly 600 miles'! The strange thing is most of those people complain of a bad back! Driving an EV improves your health in many ways, the quietness as well as being forced to take a break. The last time I drove down, I timed my stops with meal breaks, and like you found the car was waiting for me to finish eating!!. In all honesty, if you are on this planet for 80+ years, what is 2 - 3 hours extra on a journey once in a while? As for petrol being cheaper, even at 66p per Kw, an ev is still cheaper than any of the fossil fueled cars!! Unless you have a car that does over 100 miles per gallon, and there aren't many of those around, if any, you would drive to Italy in!!
Hi Andy, loved this for many of the reasons mentioned in the comments, very entertaining. Re economy, at 2.7 miles per kWh (at 25p), you managed 11p per mile. An ICE vehicle doing 40mpg and paying £1.85 per litre would be close to double that. Without Ionity Premium, it would cost the same, at least on long journeys. Sarah and I are waiting for the R5 from Renault, although I recently looked into replacing my Renault Trafic for an electric version. The Gov Grant should go to buyers not dealers as the OEMs are increasing the cost of the vans by a similar amount. Keep up the content and regards to All. G
Great to hear from you Geoff! Some encouraging numbers there. The Renault 5 looks fantastic - I can’t wait to see that in the metal. Have you looked at the Maxus vans? I believe they’re pretty good value. Love to the family!
Great to hear from you Geoff! Some encouraging numbers there. The Renault 5 looks fantastic - I can’t wait to see that in the metal. Have you looked at the Maxus vans? I believe they’re pretty good value. Love to the family!
@@MrEV Tesla Bjorn tested the Maxus and it sounds to noisy and uncomfortable for me, plus it's too high. My Trafic is less than 2m high and used to cost me 12p a mile before the fuel prices went up, so at 20p a mile I thought I'd investigate the platform and battery tech used by Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroen. Knowing that buyers get a lump sum, I swear they've welded £8k onto what a van should cost. My van new started at £30k but quickly became £19k plus VAT. I ended up buying a two year old one with 20k on the clock, given I didn't know how the business would perform. That same van is now £21,500 plus VAT. Discount the true value of the engine, gearbox and transmission and then add £6k for a battery and an electric version should (at the very lest) cost the same. It doesn't and they want £35,000 with no discount in sight because the Government is providing the grant. The Government is handing out extra profits to the OEMs and Dealers. I could sell mine for £12k and take a loan out, knowing that I'm saving £2,100 a year on fuel (less the cost of electric sourced overnight - £300pa based 4400 kWh at 2.5 miles per kWh) towards the purchase price, but I can't get over the extra £10k-£12k they want. As you know I'm 100% behind electrification, but I think I'll trade out a few years with the van I have. Family are well thanks and PressureWashPro has proved very worthwhile. Cheers G :)
This video cracked me up, so funny "we could hide someone in the boot" You could see Flaviana wanting to say it and then thinking I will say in Italian just in case the officer hears!
Wow Mr EV, that was the Rant😮. I understand her comments and I think if you could charge less time but more frequently it would have been less noticeable. Though I see your family often delayed your departures anyway. I recently did a 5200mi road trip from California to New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and back using 1899kWh (from chargers) so figuring 92% efficiency which matches what I see I had 335wH/mi or 3.0mi/kWh. That was with a Porsche Taycan, average freeway speed 78mph. Surprised on your efficiency. My average fast charging stop was 16 minutes.
The Taycan charge speed is insane! Beautiful machine - and what a stunning journey you did. Did you have any issues? I hear some horror stories about Electrify America.
Flaviana is swimming against the tide! I have just completed a 3k kilometres trip from Southampton to Oslo and Stockholm, using ionity all the way with the help of ABRP app. I have had absolutely no problems with charging other than having to wait (once) and giving up on a slow charger (once). The intervals of charging were sometimes too far for a wee break! Like Andrew, our stops were governed by us (my wife and me) not by the charging time. One thing though: we travelled at 106kmh generally and our economy was 3.6m/kwh (16.6 kwh/100 km). I suspect A&F were travelling faster. With an exceptionally comfortable car like the Ioniq5 I enjoyed the slower travel.
I've said it before, you are a man of infinite patience
🤣🤣🤣🤣 agreed! Tbf on the other hand it must be pretty annoying having your husband doing his little EV vids to camera whilst you're trying to enjoy your holiday.

Thanks John. Well said!
I just got my ioniq and also go to Lake Garda every year.. When I see how fast it charges, NO worries at all anymore :)
love how the dog bolts from the kid!
Fantastico video Bellissimo 👍🏼 apparently i had a smile on my face watching it … and i forgot how bloody great that Project 45 looks !
Thank you kindly! And yes, the car’s a stunner. At least you had one for a bit!
Enid Blyton does great kids books
Noddy, Secret Seven and Famous Five.
Timeless.
Keep up the great videos and recipes.
My daughter has read them all except Noddy I think - wonderful books!
I thought the sequel would never drop. Thank goodness it has🎉
Andrew! You really uploaded it! 🎉
Wish I could 🔨the like button a trillion times!!
Thank you!
Thanks! Took long enough! 😀
What a great blog, thankyou!. I just loved to interaction between you and your wife and the points of view on both sides and your daughter taking it all in. There is only one thing for it;... a hydrogen powered car. Haha!
A very good video, most enjoyable. Thank you.
I do respect a man who knows when to pick his battles. 😂
Years of practice!
Amazing to see Viareggio in the late winter. Been going there in the summer since 1970. Have downloaded the remainder to watch on my 5 hour flight tomorrow. 👍
It must have looked a little more desolate than it does in summer? Have a safe flight!
I /love/ your filming and editing style. The vignettes and moments that might otherwise be on the editing floor are perfect.
I’ll be happier when I’m charging at 1MW and it takes 5 mins to get 200+ miles of range.
cycled past a petrol station today and I noticed the stink...can't wait for the day I never have to go near those sticky filthy places...
@@joemcnicholas8687 its early days, but yes EVERY motorway service should have a bank of chargers...it will happen, perhaps another 5 years...
😂 love the review regarding electric cars, as a man with only daughters and even the dog being a girl I know when to go with the flow❤
The yacht shopping🛍 HAHAHA. Sell the ioniq because we can't afford, but let's get a yacht hahaha.
Well that was worth waiting for, what a lovely surprise! I started watching last night and finished this morning. Great fun, love the recipes Flaviana. We have no kids and can't use lardons (veggies only for us) so maybe just a little extra seasoning would be good I think.
Love the rant, we know you care about the climate really.🤪
Such good fun, can't wait for the next one...but we will of course...😂👍
The best video I’ve seen in ages , your wife is a star 🎉
i have to hand it to you Andrew you always see the positive in the EV future well done for your staying power i would have given up ages ago !!!!
There have always been more pros and cons for me, so that helps. I appreciate that’s not the case for everyone!
Watching your buttons being pressed. Very entertaining. Wives.. they do know what to target 😁
You have so positivity but your wife the otherway around. She is in Italy at her home, smile. Jesus.
It's all on YOU! You could have repeated two words, "Si, Bellissima" for the entire trip and avoided grumpy!
I'll try that next time. Knowing my luck, she'll think I'm being sarcastic!
Brilliant video - so entertaining!
What fantastic video..
And I've no idea why it was recommended or why I watched it..
But bravo..💯👍💯👍
Thanks Mark!
Thanks so much!
Came for the EV footage, stayed for Flaviana moaning about pizza. 🤣🤣🤣
Magna Pizza in Via Magnagrecia, Roma is now on my holiday itinerary. I was expecting a little more about the Ioniq 5, but Mr.Electric Poo is so much better.
I've been waiting for this!
What a joy to watch, Love all the views especially through the Alps !
Thank you David
Update 2: I laughed out loud when this became a cooking show. I expected her to just name the things she puts in the soup. But when the videos started, milk came out of my nose.
Ahhhhh, he had such a nice relaxed trip down to Italy! Lol
Great been waiting for this only just put it on so hoping its as good as part 1 its my Daughters fav vid at mo she loves the bit when you catch your head on sun visor in Northern France at the toll booth
Less accidental slapstick comedy in this one but hopefully still a few funny moments!
Fantastic makes me want to do a log road trip have to made do with my mini trip in Oct From Hull to Rotterdam drive to Sunparks Belgium then Dunkirk to Calais back to Staffordshire in our Kona EV
Best Movie I’ve watched in a long time.
High praise! Thanks so much, Jake.
“Problem with the signal” hahahha. Loved that ! The Ionity stated that the problem was already reported to Ionity
Great video love the family & the dog, my wife would agree with your wife, that’s the only way she gets me to eat vegetables, and i am 71😀 a very balanced video. Have to say I lean to your opinion, albeit haven’t ventured as far as you in my EV👍🏻
Beautiful video as always. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much!
Such a refreshing video
I've just found Ur channel, as I am getting eNiro soon and I was looking for some common faults to be aware of. Ur 12V videos started to pop out like mad :)) Great channel, great EV journeys, great explainations! Travelling with grumpy family... yeah... talk to me ;)
All the best Sir! Thanks for testing e-Niro to the point, I am now 101% sold to it :)
Thank you! I’m considering getting another Niro actually!
I have my own Ioniq 5 arriving this week so great timing , brilliant video. 😊
Congratulations! Very exciting! Make sure you get the dealer to put on the latest update before you get it - another viewer has told me there's now battery preconditioning so when you navigate to a rapid charger, it makes sure you get fast speeds even in cold weather.
Thanks Andrew will do, I live in sunny Queensland Australia so not too many cold days thankfully.
I’m with you completely. Really nothing too onerous at all.
Thank you for a brilliant video, the Ioniq 5 looks very comfortable when fully loaded and being driven on a very long drive.
It is! Thanks, John.
Really enjoyed the video. Fun to watch, informative, and well made. Thank you.
I have been waiting for this haha. The truth of family gonna kick in like nobody's business.. commenting in the first minute haha
Definitely here for 41:00 soup mark
Wow the rant was incredible. I admire your ability to keep calm.
Wow, secret seven, that's a blast from the past.
Long wait for this one Andrew 👍👍👍
Brilliant video, Jamie Oliver would be proud.. lol. Thanks for sharing, a great family road trip.
You have the patience of a saint.
Your dead-pan serious video makes me chuckle. The banter between you is so funny !
Great to see the Ioniq 5 again. It was such a cliffhanger to wait for this video. :D
Greetings from the Philippines; I hope you and your family are well.
Interesting video. It illustrates that the Ioniq 5 (and EVs) can cover large distances with minimal charging stops.
Absolutely brilliant video. Real life with EVs thrown in!
love to watch this - as a family of 5 in a hybrid car, I often have to pre-book hotels as we cannot find somewhere (in budget) to accomodate us all, and mostly they do not have a type 2 charger near for a few hours of loading. I might get a full EV and this was a good idea of what to expect with stops.
Very informative video. I think I’ll be keeping my S-Class diesel for the time being, but I’d trade up my Mrs for an Italian one. Mrs EV is hilarious.
Tell her it’s €18,000. a night In Monaco harbour in June. 😂 regen on a Yatch be interesting.
Thanks so much, Robert!
the pivot to Cooking with Flaviana was amazing
Andrew, you were remarkably restrained when Flaviana was going on about having to stop to charge! But please explain to her that the quickest way to health problems, back and circulatory, is to drive for 4 hours without stopping! Six hours even worse! Hence the advice for air passengers is to get up and move around regularly to avoid DVT during a flight! Even a short haul to Rome! When driving, stopping for 30 -40 mins every couple of hours is beneficial to her health! This rush to get places is rubbish!
Electric vehicles, not only are they better for the environment but also for your health!
That’s a great argument!

Great video! I never buy fuel on the motorway BTW - it's ridiculously overpriced...
