Scotty, I love that you show the pics corresponding with what you're saying. They are hilarious! Not sure how much it slows you down during editing but it's worth it. They are hilariously entertaining and they don't distract from what you're saying. Love you, Scotty!
Hey Scotty, I usually do not comment but I just wanted to say that your videos have helped me greatly! Summer before last one of my bucket list items was crossed off! My brother helped me to take the engine out of my car. I have a 1995 Dodge Caravan, 3.0L engine, I have had it since 2005. Needless to say many friends and neighbors have said to me: "Why put all of that work into that old car, get a newer one!" Well, as a female most folks do not expect to see you working on your car! I have limited financial means and so I am frugal! I always let those same people know, unless you are buying and/or paying the monthly car note, let it be! At least if I am doing the work along with my brother, I know what's been done and that it\s done correctly! So again thank you, your videos helped out a lot during that process!

I’m ringing that bell. Hi Scotty. I’m a fairly recent fan who at the ripe age of 53 is becoming a DYI mechanic. Actually I have done some basic stuff all my life but put wasn’t able to develop my interest in cars as LIFE (marriage, kids, work, divorce, single parenting) got in the way. The kids are almost all adults now so I have more time to get dirty. I bought a 2003 Celica GT in January. It’s solid and just needed some TLC and elbow grease and is looking and running great... accept for some hesitation. I changed the plugs and coils and I still get intermittent hesitation so I’m going to change the fuel filter and see if that resolved it. So, I really enjoy your no bullshit, no nonsense videos and look forward to viewing new ones. Thanks. 🛠🔔🔔🔔
I would FIRST test drive the car driving up hill and at full throttle. If the car has plenty of power, it is getting plenty of fuel. There are so many potential causes of hesitation that jumping in to test fuel pressure is a waste of time unless you're getting lean codes and lacking power. If you want to jump in and try something, cleaning the throttle body and the MAF sensor is a better possible quick fix.
I was actually expecting his to say that lol. But yeah TB and MAF can mess things up, but most likely crappy fuel filter because they are all "lifetime" nowadays
You know how the mobile clinics show up for free health screens? You should do a video for car scans in a parking lot somewhere. Film the shock of the folks when you show them the fault codes. Most folks never see those tools. You'd be a hero. So a cape would be in order....maybe a statue, definitely a spot on a Pepsi can.
Great video Scotty I've changed so many fuel pumps in my time just about all of them are in the fuel tank. Gone are the days of the old mechanical fuel pump where you could take apart and repair it yourself.

Just keep in mind the importance of fuel pressure at a specific location of the system. The right pressure is necessary at the injector. Even if the fuel pump is putting out the correct pressure reading, the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel rail, the individual injectors, etc., could still be causing a problem. Kinda hard to cover all that in a four-minute video, which I get. As always, Mr. Kilmer, you offer a tremendous service to the public-at-large on car repair and ownership issues. Kudos.

I currently have a 2004 Cavalier which does have a pressure regulator and fuel rail hence the comment. An expert critic should *know* there are such systems still on the road as well as home-gamers attempting to keep them going.
I’ve always wondered what was the cause of my trucks hesitant acceleration. Now I know what to look for. Thanks Scotty for the heads up. Now if only I had a fuel pressure test kit to do it with. Hmm.
Coil packs cause hesitation as well even bad injectors... But fuel could be it too but more likely coil packs which are really easy to change compared to a fuel pump
@@josephroberts2555 any way to single it out prior to replacing it,like, is there a way to test the coil packs first? Im broker than broke these days and cant 1) Be w/o my transpo for long and 2) cant afford to just throw parts at it til i stumble upon the right item..thanks!
@@Tiredtothecore if its one of the coil packs (theres 8 of them if its a v8) then most likely you have a check engine light... Check the codes at autozone (they do it free) more than likely you will have a p0300 or p0301 or p0302 or p0303 or p0304 or p0305 or p0306 or p0307 or p0308. The number at the end of the code denotes the cylinder number that is misfiring. For example of you have a p0303 then its misfire on cylinder 3. If its code p0302 then its a misfire on cylinder 2. The p0300 code is a general random misfire code for the whole engine. Ok.... When u get your specific code from autozone... Lets say its p0303 ... So misfire on cylinder 3... Take the coilpack on top of cylinder 3 and switch it with any other coil pack on a different cylinder. So if cylinder 5 has no misfire code then put the cylinder 3 coil pack on the 5th cylinder and put the 5th coilpack on the 3rd cylinder. Then start the car and clear all trouble codes with the code reader. Then drive the car until it throws another code... Check that "new" code with a code reader from autozone or autopart store. If your misfire code changed to cylinder5 p0305 instead of the original p0303 then that means the coil pack that was originally on 3rd cylinder is bad because the trouble code changed cylinders.

Hi Scotty, my 2001 Stratus has just today got an engine hesitation problem. Thanks for the timely video. Let me have that kit to test the fuel pressure. Wow!
Thanks for the help! I was getting ready to replace my fuel pump on my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car would hesitate, the fuel gauge was going all crazy, I thought it was the fuel sending unit (after watching another of your videos). But today I changed the fuel filter, and the problems are gone! (Sort of, the fuel gauge is a bit crazy, but its not reading empty when I have a full tank, I guess I still have to change the pump, but I don't need to spend almost $300 from Autozone or Oreillys when I can get it cheaper from other stores.)
Just yesterday we were talking about checking fuel pressure on me and my step dad's car and truck then out comes this video. How did you know scotty? I can really use one of these now.

I drive an old Suzuki Aerio SX 2002 that gets a system too lean code and just doesn't accelerate. Also getting worse gas mileage. How do I find out where the fuel pump and fuel filter are located? Looking forward to testing my fuel pressure! Thanks for the great video Scotty
Your videos are super helpful. I have found so many that don't help as much as I had hoped. I was recently given a car that needs some love and I am excited to see what I can fix with your help instead of having to rame the car in. I am considering a rebuild from the groumd up on a 97 Taurus.
Just the video I needed to see today! I have a ‘98 Chevy s-10 with a 4.3L V6 and it has 135,000mi on it. I love the truck but it has typical Chevy problems. I got the truck for $500 because it had a brake line rusted through, so I replaced the lines myself, then gave it tune up (which was a pain in the butt on the driver side), but even after the tune up I still get this nagging hesitation when I first take off, but only after it’s initial start of the engine. I’ll change the fuel filter next and hope that helps! 🤞🏼

Seen this issue a fewtime on friends vehicles. Was debating on adding this to the garage before I ever needed it
Love working on my vehicles and my Cobalt has this problem. Thanks Scotty!
Your videos are super helpful. I have found so many that don't help as much as I had hoped. I was recently given a car that needs some love and I am excited to see what I can fix with your help instead of having to rame the car in. I am considering a rebuild from the groumd up on a 97 Taurus.
Thanks Scotty for the knowledge.
Thank for sharing so good information scotty
Thanks for the video Scotty. I recently replaced the fuel pump on a Honda.
I really like you channel. My father and grandfathers were mechanics and you always give it straight like they did. Keep up the good work!!
Just began watching Scotty's videos. They're pretty informative and entertaining, I'm not going to lie!
