    I have a Kioti DK4520 which is a 8x8 Shuttle, L/H range. The ratios are a bit more spread out so there isn't the super slow crawling gears. 1st is about 1-1.5mph and each gear gets progressively faster from there. I would only want a hydro if I was doing strictly loader work. In that case, I would have bought a skid steer instead.

    I have zero experience with shuttle shift. I always thought that shuttle shifts from forward to reverse and vice versa were done without the clutch?

  • @dthouchen
    @dthouchen ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you have to cluth the tractor to go from forward to reverse

    • @MaynardFamilyHomestead
      @MaynardFamilyHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it’s like the old school tractors. Clutch to change gears in forward/reverse.

  • @trey5772

    Dumb question but if you just drop the clutch does it stall out?

    • @MaynardFamilyHomestead

      Not dumb at all. It has never stalled on me from just driving not matter how fast the clutch gets dumped.

    He Man I have the same exact RK 6' flex linkages cutter. Before I ever turned it on I just slapped on a 165$ slip-clutch-a-runny. Way to go with the shuttle-shift-a-matic tractor. Gots me a Massey-ferguson 1736 power-shuttle shift, (what a masterpiece) of fine machinery. Just like you , can't stand those hydro-static-slip-o- howl-o-matics. They are fuel & fluid & filter guzzlers. I thank God every day for both my arms and legs. Happy tractoring & thanks for vidio.

    suggestion. Rake up the clippings. you will only get the bigger stuff. Bale it to get it off the field. it will make your hay harvest munch cleaner and more palatable for your animals. you can use the junk as bedding or as compost.

      Thanks for the suggestion! I learned that the hard way early last year. I noticed I was raking up old hay mixing it with the fresh cut hay. I’ve been mowing it often this year but with the recent rains it got tall quick. I definitely need to get it up.

      When you want to switch direction forward to reverse, do you have to clutch, stop, shift, release clutch? Or is it a power shuttle where you can slow down and shift with out using the clutch

    What size is that brush hog? Is the RK37 strong enough to run drum mower for cutting hay? Round baler?

    • @MaynardFamilyHomestead
      @MaynardFamilyHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably go with the RK55 for a round baler. My brush hog is a 5’ deck, and it runs the sickle mower fine. It might barely run those items, but a 55 would do it no problem.

  • @deanbarr5740
    @deanbarr5740 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know this was filmed 3 months ago, if you haven't already you should consider getting an over ride clutch for the brushhog. The sale em at Tractor Supply, and Rural King as well. Youul never shear another pin and the clutch will protect the PTO and the implement too.

    • @MaynardFamilyHomestead

      Yes I did, it’s the fully synchronized shuttle shift and you can shift while driving, within the 4 gears in each section ( Low, Mid, High).

    Wow!! Would love to have a tractor and mow in the rain. I’m using a 17hp Kubota. I’m in High Springs, Fl near Gainesville. It takes me the entire weekend to mow a 12 acre field. Time to upgrade!

    Any complaints with the RK37 or their implements at all? I have 6 acres about an hour north of Tampa and am really leaning towards the RK37 with a grapple and a cutter as they are about 20 minutes away and can't find any crazy issues online about them.

    • @MaynardFamilyHomestead
      @MaynardFamilyHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So far no issues at all. They seem to be built very well. I almost bought the grapple but decided the forks would be better for me long term, and I’m glad I did. I definitely recommend spending the extra $4k for the cab too, especially here in Florida!

    Silly question but does the throttle/RPMs effect the speed of the tractor or just the PTO & hydraulic flow? Meaning, if you were in let's say high range and 2nd gear with the throttle at the lowest setting, would your speed increase at all by only moving the throttle/pedal to a higher/faster RPM? Thanks!

    • @MaynardFamilyHomestead
      @MaynardFamilyHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s actually a great question, the throttle does affect the speed a little bit. I would say less than 1 mph though.

      It’s great. There are so many gear options it makes it easy to do everything. I generally use a low gear around 2-4 when using the bucket.
