    Thank you for the in-depth tour of the engine compartment and front bonnet. I absolutely think this is one of the most beautiful cars in existence and is so underrated.

    I purchased a White on White brand new 308GT4 Series 2 from Wide World of Cars in 1977. $22500 The car developed O ring leaks as well as cam seal leaks, The water pumps would go after 17000 miles like clock work. The car would bottom out and take out the oil pans due to the low clearance and the wire mesh oil hoses tends to flex and spew out oil on the hot manifold causing the oil to go on fire, The car developed stress cracks on the pillars. Other than that it was an ok car. I replaced it with a 1977 308GTB and 1978 308GTS They had the new city suspension that didn't bottom out.

    Van, thank you very much for another great video. I look forward to every one you release. Yours are so well done, I wish you had a vastly wider audience so you could take advantage of some of the commercial payments that others get. It might help compensate for your generosity sharing your knowledge. Thanks again.

    The Dino 308 GT/4 is like a 4-seat tamed down more practical Lancia Stratos. And that’s not a bad thing.

    That little double S shape spring to hold the trunk lid.. same solution was used on many Fiats and Ladas to hold the hood lid. Also handle for the e-brake seems to be exactly the same as on those cars also. Enjoyed the overview a lot. Thanks for sharing.

    • @vsvenson

      Yes, and even the exterior door handles were used in other Fiats.

    Nice car! My job is mainly restoring classic cars (although we do work on more modern stuff - servicing/repairs etc., too), and we currently have one of these baby's in the workshop right now. Our's is a slightly later model, but so much is the same. It has been many different colours over the years. It came to us in red, but we have repainted it in a Ferrari white and it looks stunning! Very interesting to see this here, as obviously i can relate greatly. I like the colour of yours! A really nice example... \m/ (:o)

    If you own one, be careful not to let a gas nossel fuel “automatically” as sometimes the fuel nossel don’t click off as designed and if fuel doesn’t shut off it will leak into the engine immediately and catch the car on fire. Yes, this happened to me back in the 70’s. Total loss.

  • @notrut

    I like group B cars and wedge cars.So, I definitely like this car. Those bumpers though. I'm guessing that sticking out like that is an American version thing?

    • @weallfollowmanutd
      @weallfollowmanutd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd definitely get rid of those US bumpers. This car is a very good looking car with the Euro bumpers on. Very Stratos esque.

    the new 308 curvy one was 4 valve per cylinder instead of the 2 valve

    • @BugsBunnysBrother
      @BugsBunnysBrother 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 308 received 4 Valves per cylinder in 1983 The FERRARI 308 GTB “QUATTROVALVOLE” 2,926cc DOHC V8 Engine with Bosch K-Jetronic Injection. The Weber’s were gone due to the EPA requirements. According to Ferrari, the 308 gt/4 was replaced in 1980 the Mondial 8, as it was the next 2+2 produced by Ferrari.

    Van...sidebar. The Triumph TR7 was not designed by Bertone. Peter Mann penned 'the shape of things to come'. The Fiat X1/9 was designed at Bertone by none other than Marcello Gandini who also designed your GT/4. Some food for thought. Nice car too! :)

      Gandini designed the Lancia Stratos at the same time he was designing the GT4, and the relation is pretty evident if you see the two cars from the side.

    Great video, though I wish you would've taken us on a test drive. Carbureted Ferraris sound INCREDIBLE! I'd really love to have a GTB or GTS, and they are affordable, but where could you take it? You could never park that anywhere and walk away from it. Every punk kid for miles around would flock to it to say they 'keyed' a Ferrari. Or they'll steal something from it. So...I'll get a 944 instead.

  • @harold-sweat-head8111

    Bertone didn't design the TR7.

    • @bruceplumley9559
      @bruceplumley9559 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite right , Bertone had nothing to do with TR7 it was penned by Harris Mann which was a disaster in car design. I remember, legend has it car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro said "My God, they've done the same thing on the other side as well" when he first saw the TR7 at a Motor Show

      Forgot to mention, I love the 308 GT4 Design. Love the Porsche 911 in the garage, I'm not so sure about the 914 (another design disaster). I have a question, is that a Testarossa lurking back in the garage? Anyway a nice collection.

    This was classed as a poor mans Ferrari ,bit like Porsche 924/944 .Never really liked the look of it compared to a 308 ,but that was years ago . I think its a better looking car now with cleaner lines .They have aged very well and put most modern cars to shame on the styling front
