Suddenly, tear drops are forming in the corners of my eyes, my heart is pounding in emotional rythmus of pure Joy, Hope and Inspiration. Thank you very much for sharing from your heart.
Wael Ghonism is the official spokesperson of the Egyptian revolution. I really admire this person. I believe that all Egyptians are so proud of you... Keep on the good work...
A lot of comments seem to deride Wael for reiterating what's obvious to most of us, but don't be fooled: what happened in Egypt was a momentous revolution in more ways than we can imagine. Even if he recapped a now famous story, I enjoyed his take. It's amazing.
Tell me what good came out of any of the so called ArAb spring !!! You have got to be a moron to believe what you are claiming or you are part of the plot
Yes, I visited Egypt several months before. 8 years after the so called revolution. I saw the country still falling. I saw a street which is like a big gap. One side is a luxury resort for foreign visitors, the other side is the shabby houses for the local people.
"We are gonna win. We are gonna win because we don't understand politics. We are going to win because we don't play their dirty games. We are going to win because we don't have an agenda. We are gonna win, because the tears that come from our eyes, actually come from our hearts. We are gonna win because we have dreams. We are going to win because we are willing to stand up for our dreams, and that's actually what happened, we won, and that's not because of anything but because we believed in our dream."
I visited Egypt several months before. 8 years after the so called revolution. I saw the country still falling. I saw a street which is like a big gap. One side is a luxury resort for foreign visitors, the other side is the shabby houses for the local people. It is OK to fight for freedom and democracy. However, do something instead of just shout again and again the slogan.
@Waltham1892 I wasn't referring to your comment on GW. The fact that he was wrong is common knowledge. I was simply glad to hear that someone understood the fact that democracy cannot be imposed. Many people cant seem to grasp that.
...and then came more chaos in 2021. But hopefully with the vaccine we'll be at least slightly more normal and be able to get out a little more and not be on social media so much, pressure building while getting riled up by social media personalities.... breathe the fresh air and experience life not a screen, which is making people go crazy. Exacerbating their worst tendencies, unfortunately. When people should have used this time to reflect, they just got angry. At least some did. I don't want to generalize. I just want the country not to get irrevocably divided. Because we don't have to be this polarized, because we really do have more in common than we have differences. We all want a good life for ourselves and our families-- don't want to let the loudest, most raucous voices ruin it for the normal people-- not let all of us get polarized and radicalized by social media. Part of the solution is going out in nature and experiencing real free air... part of it is actually using your brains to think rather than letting your minds be ruled by emotional whim, which-- aren't exactly stable.
@@Eowynnofrohan an then came the vaccines, but some people wont want to take them, the third wave of covid is coming and rights are being torn apart all around the world.
The comments on this video almost ruined this great video...The revolution is about the Egyptians and yet people think about what the outcome will be for us in the West. Come on...stop being so self centred and be happy for these guys and trust them to do their thing and if they want, they can be friendly to us..heck, i don't know why they'd want that since we've never really supported them in their internal conflicts
@SalmaHegab I never said that Wael should be superior in everything, and I'm not attacking the guy either, I actually like and respect him. My point is, this is TEDx talk about THE Egyptian revolution, it needed a speaker with a present mind and a strong presence, specially that you guys made the event "top secret", which I wasn't happy about either! And, to be honest, I didn't feel honesty or heart talk, it was cold and felt to me like a person reading from a paper in front of him! Sorry!
So bad, that now a revolution is celebrated, which has not led to anything but another name on the top of the state. There must be more reforms now and the egyptians have recognized that.
@rippinsteo Germany had been a Republic, Israel was a democracy from the outset, Japan was a one party state for 20 years, South Korea wasn't a democracy until after Sigmund Ree left. You can ask the Poles, East Germans, and Czechs about how well an impressed system of govenment works once the forces of occupation leave. You can not impose a polotical system through invasion. If you could, then the US would have reverted to Imperial Rule after the war of 1812.
@ehpl Hmmm.....Mubarek was an ally. Deposing him was not really in American interests. It should have been, because we love to talk about our vaunted love of freedom; but, we had much more control over him, than we will over any government created by and for the Egyptian people. Their military took power. Their military is well respected amongst Egyptians for a reason. No western power will have any puppet strings on Egypt.
@qigong1001 Military isn't corrupt, and the people love and respect the military. The people are in control, the military is only 'officially' in control. But simply put, everything that the people wanted has one way or the other been achieved. All of mubarak's regime has gone, even the prime minister ahmed shafee' who almost seemed like he was staying, the people made strikes and he was removed. We currently have a prime minister loved by the people. He also striked in tahrir square before.
@t3tsuyaguy1 "Private corporations don't don't respond to protesting" Politicians do, so the corps have to listen in order to keep their political employees in power.
@mathew2540 sulieman isn't in charge; who told you that? Dude update yourself, alot of changes happened. The current prime minister is loved by the people, and is one who protested in multiple days in tahrir square with the egyptian people.
good job! like the u.s. military, his lack of understanding of middle east politics has helped plummet the country into another dictatorship! they should hire him to a Senate committee on foreign relations. oh you u.s. executives are so smart! always lookin out for the little folk!
You don't know a lot about this man do you? I suggest you get beyond your own emotional reaction and judgement, and open yourself to understanding Wael Ghonim. Or get some help in someone understanding you, but not on this platform. Thanks!
@Waltham1892 : Democracy can not be imposed? The historical precedents of Germany, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Grenada, et al., and the sea of purple fingers from Basrah in the South to Mazar-e-Sharif in the North attest otherwise. Furthermore, Dubya did not so much argue for the imposition of Democracy as for the idea that freedom is the desire of every human soul and that Democracy is not inherently anathema to people of faith--including those of the Muslim or Islamic faith.
@ehpl media manipulation and misinterpretation.... US sends $1.6bn a year to egypt for training+weapons. And the ones who really are in control are the people. The army wanted to keep Ahmed shafee' but the people protested and forced him to leave. So yes, the people are in control and have all the current power.
@LikeEminem The clearly extremist religious party is known to have between 30%-50% of the voting Egytian public . This group also gave silent consent to the church bombing that took place in Egypt over new years eve .
@steve0281 Isn't the point of a people's revolution that there, as he says, is not one hero, instead everyone is helping? I can't predict the future of Egypt, but I have hope that it's gonna be better rather than worse, I'm an anarchist, I believe in the freedom of the individual and true democracy and I don't believe in any dictators or any kind of hierarchies where some people lead and some people are trod on. How that relates to Egypt, I can't guess.
@steve0281 I'm sorry, but have you been to Egypt recently? The majority of the population is secular and tolerant, and they will not let themselves be ruled by fundamentalists.
@futurama1984 you go to work, send your kids to school, follow fashion, act normal, walk on the pavement, watch T.V., save money for your old age, obey the law. Repeat after me: You are free.
Now they have an opportunity to come up with a modern constitution and bill of rights that all Egyptians can live with. I worry that Islam will rear its aggressive head and insert itself into the mix. I hope they follow the wisdom of the those that came before, and avoid religious infusion into political structure.
@Th3Shadow0fDeath I think you make good points. I don't think my original comment was a very good one. I think I thought that "CurtHowland" was saying something different than he really was.
@CatastrophicDisease It has been many years since I have been to Egypt, but I read the Qur'an and al-Bukhari daily. Whatever the people may generally be like, if they follow Islam then they tacitly accept the precepts of it. I don't think that the majority of Iran are fundamentalist yet they are ruled by them. Most people in Syria are not Alawai, but they are ruled by them. Most people in the US are not democrats, but they have one as a president.
@Enleuk I share a similar political bent with you but perhaps from a different perspective. What I am seeing is that the Muslim Brotherhood is the most organized and most ruthless single entity fueling this event. They are fired with religious fervor with a history of over a thousand years bolstered by events such as the Battle of Badr. Not to mention a tacit acceptance of their basic ideology among the general populace. Against this I don't really think any others stand a chance.
@pashun88 Saying that George Bush was wrong, and is still wrong, is hardly praise worthy. It was and is fairly obvious. The since I posted that message a lot has happened. The outcome of the Arab Spring is far from clear at this piont. It may take years for the historical trend to become clear.
I'm disappointed to be honest. I expected more from Wael on a TEDx talk. His mind wasn't present, his language wasn't perfect, and he moved too much on stage and distracted me from listening to his words. In my opinion, the GREAT Egyptian revolution deserves better than this talk.
@Hellogoodbye90gm Okay charlie sheen why don't we end this here. Do you really want to have a pointless argument on the internet? we're not even talking about the content anymore. Honestly I will stop replying so don't bother posting.
