I agree with your assessment of this figure, the general hope in the collectors community was that this will be a figure one would be proud to own, particularlly since Mezco claims they'll never produce it again, thus adding a tacit value to it. The cold reality is that the xenomorph is dissapointing in almost all dimenions and in my personal opinion Neca did a better job with their translucent version. Love your videos, keep it up!

I'am also indecisive if I should maybe cancel my preorder of the normal 1:12 Big Chap, it was delayed again in europe, I guess maybe because of the QC issues many of their Alien figures have, but was also thinking about to get the protoptype version instead and try to repaint it more movie accurate. I have the Mezco 1:12 Jungle hunter, while I love the figure, the paint is totally wrong, doesn't look at all like their prototype version or even the pictures at the back of the box. I could imagine, depending on how many returns and customer complaints and how Mezco's policy is about it, that they do a second version of their Alien and Predaor figures. All three just don't look like they advetrised them. The Dome is the biggest issue i have with the 1:12 Big Chap's it looked far better and closer to being accurate on their SDCC showcase figure.
I really appreciate the open and honest review, it means a lot to me as a Mezco collector. I used to buy almost every release, but started pulling back when I ended up with more POs than actual toys. I had this and the other POd but cancelled them both after your initial tear down. They look good, but they're just not for me. Keep up the honest and informative reviews!
Thanks for the honesty, I still really like how it looks it’s very interesting, but already having the black one I don’t think I need another one, I hope Mezco does continue the Alien line, atleast Ripley with a removable jumpsuit and space suit would be nice so that the stupid chest with wire makes sense to have
i love that original Giger art for the alien - even though it's only half finished it has a very eerie quality to it. one of my favourite pieces by Giger along with "The Tourist" ..................... it does make sense seeing the xeno in this translucent form - after the creature sheds it's skin it 's body needs to harden & it may darken as it does. in the movie Brett picks up the translucent shed skin & the xeno is hanging with the chains above. be a perfect spot for it to hide & rest while it's biomechanical armour hardens...
Honestly, it would've been great if this figure came with both the production version head and the movie version head like mafex's offering because the figures contain the hands of both variants, which is unusual considering that there isn't enough to complete the look. I also think that the concept version should have its dome lightly frosted like in the promotional material. I'm also worried that this logic will apply to their Godzilla figure as I don't want the mediocre paint apps to ruin it. great review by the way.

Would be cool if you could buy just the accessories seperately, otherwise I agree with your assessment of cashgrab. At least your replacement normal Big Chap seems to holding up till now and it still looks just cool!
Picked up for 75 at BBTS to pair with the other Big Chaps. Mafex still holds king at this scale IMO however Mezco did an incredible job here. Revoltech Big Chap is also badass and a fun desktop Xeno.
@8474Starscream I agree that in form and design, it is one of the better ones. And the concept version seems to be holding up. But, the materials used for the original is where I have had issues. My first one developed issues almost right out of the box, and my replacement developed rubber rot around the tail having been taken out ones for inspection and stored in its box in a climate controlled environment for a year before looking at it again. This figure feels more like a consumable good rather than a straight collectible. I wonder how many collectible grade offerings there will be left in 10 years. So my advice is, even though the concept vr seems to be made of more robust materials, treat it with kid gloves.

I actually think that this one proves they will be doing an Aliens figure. If you look closely you will see that the chestburster is the one from the second film as it has the little arms, the same is true of the face hugger, which is in attack mode with the two front fingers up (something we never saw in the first film). All that plus the black inner mouth makes me think that a lot of the accessories are going to do dual duty.
You've convinced me NOT to get the concept alien figure from Mezco. I'll stick with the movie version one I absolutely love him. Besides I have the NECA concept version. Thanks you just saved me a $130 I don't have to spend. :)
Both of these figures were an easy pass for me. Another 1:12 scale big chap 🙄 Aliens deserve some more 1:6 figures. And when I say Aliens I mean any xenomorph other than the over saturated big chap.
Well, then you are probably going to like the next video I'm working on. I am looking at the eleven 1:6th scale xenomorph figures Hot Toys has done from 2007 to current. I'm hoping to spread xenomorph awareness and get the community chanting "more 1:6th Aliens!" Seriously though, these things sell, I'm surprised at how long it's been since Hot Toys has dipped into the star beast license. But, I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts we will get a disney/fox Romulus figure.

It was clearly knows as a recolor . Also it's a mdx not a standard release hence the difference in package

I honestly don't think that this would work as the concept suit but I do think that this would work as an albino xenomorph
the legs on these guys are pretty bad too..they look like their wearing alien pants..where are the ankles?
