Mike. I’m watching this two years later but it’s still valuable information for me cuz I’m buying a 450 XCF-W this week. You did a better job selling it than my sales associate at the Powersports dealership could have or ever will. I can’t decide if I should get their 2023 model or the 2024 model. The 23 model is discounted $2k and has the fuel pump in the lower part of the tank and you sell the 1,000 hr replacement pump. The 2024 has the new pump up higher and might not suck all the fuel up. I will call TacoMotoCo and see which one I should get. Thanks Bro, you are 1 in a million dude.
I had a 2008 KTM 450xcr-w that was a great bike for tight trails although heavier than I like so I ended up purchasing a 300xcw tpi which is great for the style riding I do. Great torque, never flames out, and easy to work on. Best thing IMO that I’ve ever thrown a leg over and I’ve had every make and model dirt bike since the 70’s. My 2 cents…
Bought one last wednesday, and what a killer machine. Finally we get a proper, full fat 4 stroke enduro bike from KTM North America. Too bad we don't get the 250 and 350 as well.
Thanks for the great video! I just got my 2023 Husqvarna FE450 (very similar minus PDS) in late July. I definitely made the right choice and look forward to your support of this bike. Keep the vids. Coming
I got mine at the end of July and I love it. I am really impressed with it in single track. I’ve left the engine and suspension alone for now (besides setting sag). I’ve added protection mods, IMS tank, and headlight (Rigid Adapt) so far. May add a voyager pro but other than that it’s pretty damn good for now.
Huge thank you for the video!!! My daughter rocks a 15 450 XC-f, she is hinting about a 6th gear(thats what Dads are for...Right?) I'm sending her the link to this video, I can sell her on a newer bike, gets a 6th gear, and she will still have the Orange frame, LOL! A 450xc-f is a little over my head in the power game, fatiguing is real. I'd like something with more snap than a 500, I should get a 450 W too!!! Can't wait to see how you build , and get updates on your in house suspensions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent review! I have a 2023 Husqvarna FE450. Basically, it's the same but with link suspension. What I like best is the linear power delivery and luggability. It's almost hard to kill the motor. I ride everything from open trails to tight woods single-track, and it handles it all like a champ. I know I have the right bike because I really don't have to do anything to it to ride like I want to. I will be checking out a Taco Moto dual sport kit to connect trails. (If it's available? ) It's easy to plate in Minnesota. Thanks for all the great information!!
Thanks for the most in depth report on this amazing machine. I’m loving my 2021 KTM 500 XCF-W for primarily singletrack, but can see the need for a livelier motor and stiffer suspension for when the terrain opens up for higher speeds. Is Husqvarna going to offer a similar hot rod 450 with linkage rear suspension? I have been unimpressed with the relatively low power output of their recent FE 450’s. My 2016 FE 501 was very strong ( and bulletproof) with a few inexpensive mods. While a lot heavier, it was considerably more stable at higher speeds than my PDS 2021 500 XCF-W.
what is the stator power of the 350 exc-f? Awesome video Mike, itd be cool if you could do the same video again for 2024 as well as comparing to any 250/350's also - that would be a comprehensive all in one enduro/dual sport/competition austrian moto bike video!
Another wicked informative video. Even tho I don't have a 2023 bike it still has alot of info that applies to my bike and where it stands in the ktm lineup. I specifically like all the stuff about the exhaust. Nothing else out there like your videos, thank you!
Great video ,I have the 22 xcf w 350 and I know what you mean by the 350 and low end. I really like the bike but but wish I had a bit more low end , I love single track and enduro. I’m considering picking up one of these , do you have any recommendations?
@Taco Mike, you mentioned this new 450 enduro model has many applications, Rally, Trail, Desert. The 500EXC-F is popular because it's also an all-rounder, including many who use it as a lightweight adv bike, connecting trails with 75mph pavement stretches yet still great for the more challenging BDRs and single track. In places where it's easy to plate a dirt bike, do you think this platform with its unique power delivery characteristics will also fill this niche? great video, looking forward to the build!
Be interesting to see if the engine holds up as well as 500s with higher power output (usually equating to shorter engine life, but the 500s last so long, maybe we'll never see?)
And how do you like this compared to a 350 XWF? The ‘24 model seems to have all the street kit items on it. Does that make it less attractive compared to a 300 XCW?
Any way to mellow out power on the 450 xcf-w? Maps, etc? Does it come with a map switch? Thanks from 48-yr old MN rider. This is most in depth coverage of 450 xcfw!
I'm terrified of a MX 450 power, I love the 250f MX power. This bike is right in between power wise and pretty perfect for me. I've had it on a motocross track twice now as well, and the suspension and power were good enough for the average double out there. I'm really happy with how well rounded this is at my skill level.
I’m buying either the 500 or this 450 and I can’t decide which one to get. I live in America (not California) so I can plate it in my state. Can anyone tell me why the 500 would be better to get?? I do mainly off roading but want street legal bc sometimes we have to ride to the next trail etc. 🤔
How is this a red sticker bike for california if the vin doesn't have a 3 or a C, I checked my local dealer and they have one with what a presumed green sticker vin would look like.
@@TACOMOTOCO I shouldn’t of asked. Lol. I finally made my mind up to buy this bike. I was going to call the dealer this morning to tell him I wanted it. Now……… I might have to wait.
Because the 450 xcf-w has the same transmission as the 500 and the engine characteristics of the 450 are different is the stock sprocket sizes the same as the 500 or is it geared lower? If not do you think any changes up or down would be beneficial?
Bought one a month ago. Swapped out the muffler for fmf seemed to help power across the board. All my other bikes are XCF so struggling with the PDS setup at this point. Ride alot of desert and single track here in Vegas. Overall happy with the bike , I feel like first gear is extremely low and will swap back to a 50 tooth sprocket. I think as this bike gets higher in the revs it doesnt pull hard, seems to fall off high in the revs. ECU in my near future and find a suspension guy that is familiar with PDS.
Oh great so it still has some power pulled out of the top end from the stock ECU for noise regs then? Ugh finally thought it was a totally uncorked W bike!!
Not sure if you tried this but in map 2 I have noticed that it is a good bit faster maybe that will have better top end but you probably have tried that. Hope this helps!
This would be at the top of my list if I was looking for an off road only 4 stroke. Unfortunately,as you know, this bike can't be registered in California or legally ridden on public land so it's a no go. But it's got everything I'd be looking for with the exception of a spark arrestor which is no big deal. So I have the next best thing. A fully uncorked 22 350excf and I'm completely happy with it. And I sold my 17 500excf to my son so he's happy too. Are the suspension settings, as in valving, the same as the excf and xcwf bikes?
@@jimmycrowell8854 I really got the 350 because I got a fantastic deal on it. Paid just over 11k out the door for it. I like both bikes but the power is different, obviously. The 500 has a big hit right off the bottom. Then it goes a little flat through the midrange before another nice rush of power up top. The 350 has torque down low too just not as much as the 500. Then the power just builds through the midrange and into the top. I would say the 350 midrange might even be stronger than the 500. The 350 also has a lot of power up top. The 500 vibrates more too. If you like massive torque down low, get the 500. If you like a more linear powerband that pulls forever, get the 350. I think the 500 is better if you're going to be on the road more than 10 percent of the time but I think the 350 is a better "pure dirt bike". It's a little lighter and it handles better.
@@toddkurtz1468 that's a good overall description thanks. what kind of fuel mods did you do to either bike or are they stock. I have heard that the EXC line can be quite dossal without a new ECU or fuel programer
@@jimmycrowell8854 Both bikes have a jd tuner and an end cap to open up the exhaust. Also pulled the reeds, which really didn't add much power with the 500. They both actually ran pretty good stock but I did have a few flameouts stock.
Why are the o2 sensors always removed when the motorcycles are converted for offroad riding? Wouldn't it actually make much more sense to leave the probe in, just to monitor the injection system or to detect a wrong fuel mixture (too rich or too lean), like a wrong fuel pressure or a torn intake manifolt? Or is there a good reason why manufacturers dont use the probe for offroad riding?
Man, so glad I am back in Europe cause here you buy a 500 EXC, remove the emission unlock the ECU and flash it at the dealer with an unrestricted map and boom you have a 500 with a plate and fully capable without the GET/Vortex expensive ECU's. And if you buy an Akrapovic then you can upload the Akra map since the ECU is unlock. All that at the dealer. Same for Australia.

They've got these for sale new in Johnstown, PA for $8k ! $2k less than a 350 EXC-F. I'm considering getting this and making street legal, but I'm not sure...
So no real power restrictions in the stock ECU as far as you can tell?? It sounds like you are only going to hop it up for more power to race and not to deal with US restrictions like on the 2022 XCFW.
Adding my Dubya Supermoto wheels this weekend and I picked up the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires. Great review Mike and Dan from TruNorth Motos was spot on in his assessment! This bike is a Unicorn for 2023!
That looks like an awesome bike but trust me people, if you like to push your bikes you will NOT like these forks. They need work. I went WP 6500..all said and done front and rear valved to your weight your lookin another 2k plus. Sucks but is what it is.
It blows my mind how much Americans have to deal with these ''street legal functions'' Over here in Europe we get uncorked bikes from the factory. No ECU tuning, no nothing. Bikes run rich enough to run a pipe without having to adjust air/fuel ratio. I've been running my 2019 450EXC with the stock map and Akrapovic for 250 hours, stock top end, never opened up. Cops don't care about turn signals or blinkers either. As long as you have plates fitted.. you're good to go
To me it seems as if it’s identical to the 450 XCF with the exception of having a 6-speed. That’s my elevator pitch to someone who asks me what the difference is. Plus has a thermostat and fan. 🤷🏻♂️
No linkage, coil spring forks, wide ratio trans, lower compression, smaller throttle body, cam profile, heavier crank and flywheel, more powerful stator, completely different fuel and ignition maps. I'm definirely missing some stuff, but they are vastly different machines in both design and performance.
@@TACOMOTOCO Pretty good list of differences in that table. Maybe add piston shape/construction and rotating engine mass to the table? You mentioned it in the video and would help people understand one of the key differences.

This is the best most informative video to date. Mine should be here in a couple of weeks I want to street legal it. Is your kit available already?
I’d love one of those! Might even get one!
Mine came with 13/52 gearing. Going to change it to 14/50.
Mine came 13/52 also. Changed to 14/52. Wondering how 14/50 worked out for you?
@@Louiektm works very well for DS and ST use.
How many HP on the Dyno? Is it just as peppy as the moto bikes?

They've got these for sale new in Johnstown, PA for $8k ! $2k less than a 350 EXC-F. I'm considering getting this and making street legal, but I'm not sure...
That’s what I got mine for
Any left? Where?
What year model?
Nice job, Taco Mike.... Sounds like a winner...
So no real power restrictions in the stock ECU as far as you can tell?? It sounds like you are only going to hop it up for more power to race and not to deal with US restrictions like on the 2022 XCFW.
Great vid!
awesome review!!!
Got mine in July!!
Great info Mike!
I’m goina go the Fe 450 route….and put a clake one lite on it.
How well do you think the 450 would work as a Street Supermoto?
Should be alright. Its got the 6 speer trans, which is whats great on these bike. 5 speed trans suck on road/sumo
Incredible
I just picked mine up today.I’m beginning a Supermoto street legal build to compliment my 300 xcw Supermoto
Adding my Dubya Supermoto wheels this weekend and I picked up the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires. Great review Mike and Dan from TruNorth Motos was spot on in his assessment! This bike is a Unicorn for 2023!
Worth turning this into a sumo? Def not as a daily
I am right now
That looks like an awesome bike but trust me people, if you like to push your bikes you will NOT like these forks.
As long as you have plates fitted.. you're good to go
It’s called a spark arrester!
Keep up the ktm videos love it!!!!
Swapping a con rod won’t change the stroke ! 😂 13:41
(Other comments you made tell me you don’t understand engines)
To me it seems as if it’s identical to the 450 XCF with the exception of having a 6-speed. That’s my elevator pitch to someone who asks me what the difference is. Plus has a thermostat and fan. 🤷🏻♂️
Take a look at the differences
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UM1R_liplwJMMrEciEBUdEBxbgkQ7eHUbmv0gOuwDJg/edit
What about camshaft and valve timing?
@@mikeb4708 guessing it’s the same as the 450 SXF/XCF but only an assumption of mine.
We don’t need any of that bollocks here in the uk. A number plate and a brake light and were off! 😂
Wait. Changing the connecting rod by itself will not make it into a 500 or visa versa. It would require a whole new crank.
Yes thanks for the clarification
Make some beta parts!
We have this pump now and more beta stuff in the pipeline
@@TACOMOTOCO
You rock
Great video other than you walking around the bike makes me nauseous!
Good this you can just listen to it
race bike in euorpe for 20 year
Rally Bike!!!
But I can rip my 500excf on the streets 😂
👍👍👍♥️😍
I want a Enduro I can jump the piss out of... ?
after doing some research into some of KTM's Bikes, I am going to wait for the 2024 yz450fx. much better build quality and way way cheaper. seems KTM outsources a lot of their stuff, ie China and it is crap. expensive crap
Please don't make it louder.
First .... BLUMPY??? 🤔
