Oscar i just want to say that your creation is a dream come true to me since my days fiddling with TileProxy for FS9. Bravo! You are the man, if i had the means i would totally support your project!
Is there a way to specify the folder that the junctions are created in? Right now, mine are being put into the root of the drive that holds Ortho4xp. Did I miss a configuration that would let me specify my X-Plane install directory? Btw, love the update and you had me at the end of the video! Too funny.
Same here, no idea how to get that super easy right click to show in Custom Scenery working. EDIT: okay, so go into the Ortho4XP root folder and open the Ortho4XP.cfg file. Then, go to section II: The interface "Earth tile map" etcetc. Remove the # at the start of the windows line, enter your custom directory for the X-Plane custom scenery folder, then save and start O4XP and the tile map. Right clicking should make it work now :)
That would be good :P I have a small question (I hope). For some reason, after selecting tiles and enabling batch build, it gives me an error saying 'could not locate image file for terrain' and then a .ter file (which one differs depending on image/DL source. Then, it shows the same item/long-lat coordinates, but a .dds file. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?
The mistake was mine, I made some tests changing the jpeg to dds program used and forgot to revert to normal in the distributed file (since you don't have that other program dds were not built (contrary to what says the interface...)) and X-Plane then complains ! 1.19 no longer has that issue, just download the update.
First of all thanks a lot for this absolutely great tool! I use it a lot, even since earlier versions. What I like most in newer versions (I use 1.19 now) is batch processing and auto-downloading of elevation data. I have three questions: 1.) I know the viewfinderpanorama website and downloaded elevation data by myself in the past. Which resolution of elevation data will Ortho4XP auto-load if there are different resolutions available for the same region/tile? 2.) I just encountered a problem that I can not load orthophotos of some tiles, for example +023+004, +023+005, +023+006 and so on. I don't know why and what's going on here. The tile is been generated, but there is no download progress and no convert progress for orthophotos. I tried it with different services (Bing, Google and so on) and different zoom levels, but nothing helped. I checked the orthos via browser (i.e. maps on www.bing.com for example). The orthophotos are there, in good resolution/zoom level, but Ortho4XP will not download and convert them. Do you have any idea what's going on? 3.) Is there an overview what all these abbreviations of ortho services mean? OK, BI = Bing, GO2 = Google, DE = Germany, NE = Netherlands and so on, but what does some others mean, for example Arc, Here, Hitta, Top25 and so on. I could not find anything in the manual about that. Thank you so much! Best regards!
1) It only takes the 3" one by default, but I will modify it so that it takes the 1" from viewfinderpanorama when available. Other than that I consider that 3" viewfinderpanorama is better than 1" srtm. 2) This is related to tiles which grab 0 OSM nodes (the software has to decide whether it is a all desert land or a tile in the middle of the ocean, and since it is at Step 1 we don't have elevation available to decide at that stage). The intended rule is then : if sea source is left empty it is assumed it is "land only", if not it is assumed it is "water only". The rule was badly encoded in 1.19 and turns always into "water only". To overcome this before 1.20 you can either use the "devel" version or open the Data***.poly file (found in the tile directory) after Step 1 is done and replace in the last line the 0.5 0.5 (a sea seed in the middle of the tile) by 1000 1000 (i.e. anything out of the tile). 3) Open Carnet_d_adresses.py in a text editor (not notepad which will break the line breaks, but notepad++ or any linux/mac editor). I very much like your videos on clouds tests, actually I didn't know how to contact you.
Thanks Oscar for your quick and detailed response! 1.) Thank you. I supposed that Ortho4XP would take the 3" resolution, and I was right. ;-) Interesting that you find that 3" is better than 1". Better in which way? For the Alps I only used 1" and it looks great, in my opinion. 2.) Thanks for that detailed description. I tried your developer version first before I would begin to manipulate .poly files with a text editor (I use notepad++ as well, by the way) - and it WORKS! Thank you! The first tiles are rendered right now. 3.) I will give this a try and will have a look into your python script. I am glad that you like my X-Plane videos. Very much appreciated! :-) Yes, testing out clouds was my latest "project". As I told there already in my opinion one does not need SkyMaxx Pro. I used SkyMaxx Pro (and at least RWC) for a very long time. X-Planes default weather engine does a very good job. And if you have some good cloud and sky textures with some descent LUA scripts it looks great! Please let me know if I could do some scenery tests for you and show them in a video. So my next project after cloud testing could be showing the beauty of Ortho4XP. :-)
luftbilderhd Indeed 3" viewfinderpanorma are better in my opinion than 1" srtm, but of course less good than 1" viewfinderpanorama. Resolution is not everything (like a picutre with plenty of pixels but taken with poor lighting), and Jonathan de Ferranti as done a brilliant job of mixing srtm data with topographic level curves. (compare the Drus with srtm 1" vs viewfinderpanorama 3", or Hayers Rock. The second is the clear winner ;-) Skymaxx pro 2.0 was the first add on I bought. I quickly let it down too (let aside the fact that it does not run under linux). Have a look at proland.imag.fr
12:20 I hear terms like 'linear interpolation' and 'not a linear system'. What you exactly mean with that? I got some courses about Numerical Analysis/Computational Modeling which showed some several interpolation techniques, but I find it quite abstract. Until I discovered Ortho4XP.
Dear Oscar, thank you for this great X-Plane tool! Question: how do I link the tiles to the custom scenery folder? When I right-click the tile does turn blue but does not show up in my custom scenery folder. Do I have to state the directory to the CS folder somewhere in Ortho4XP? Thanks for helping.
So if I wanted to batch build, let's say Florida, I would select a tile in Florida, then on the main screen change the values of that tile for what I want them to be (Custom DEM's and zoom levels). After, click 'Write config'. Do this for each tile in Florida clicking 'Write config' each time. Then click batch build- enabling 'Build Masks' and 'Per tile config'. Is that correct?
Hello Oscar. How do we integrate .hgt files in batch processing? Sorry, I am still learning. Also, can we custom link scenery for both Xplane 10 and 11 from one Ortho4xp Tile location?
Hi Oscar, a great program, well done for sharing and thank you. I have a question though, how do I edit the X-Plane folder location in Ortho4XP so that it makes a junction link in the custom scenery folder, it seems to place it in the root of the hard drive each time. I've tried to edit the global configuration option but it never saves after the program is closed and then re-opened again. Cheers Bluebotle
I'm not getting the blue rectangles of tiles I've already downloaded. I haven't changed or moved any of the tiles. Any way to troubleshoot this? I also haven't defined a custom build directory.
E.g. from there : osm.wno-edv-service.de/boundaries/ Pay attention that for some countries the poly file contains multiple parts (because of islands or so), only the first one is taken by Ortho4XP so if it is not the main one just put it first in the file yourself.
Hi, I'd prefer if you could use the x-plane.org forum for technical support, that way others can ask your questions too. Unless you are using a 32bit windows, there is no reason I know of that could lead nvcompress.exe (complied for 64bit) to stop working.
A quick stupid question. Can we delete the ortho once our tile is complete? I mean I'm no expert, but ortos are downloaded and then converted to dds so the ortho is just wasted space on your HDD right?
Oscar i just want to say that your creation is a dream come true to me since my days fiddling with TileProxy for FS9. Bravo! You are the man, if i had the means i would totally support your project!
Wow talk about improving a program. Dude thanks you made a cumbersome process very simple for windows users :)
loove it !! thank you soo much !!!

Thanks!!! I totally glazed over that part in the config file :)
I cannot choose the font size there, otherwise it would be 20 and
red ;-)

Yes, among the first lines in Ortho4XP.cfg
(don't use notepad to open it, prefer notepad++ or an editor that won't automatically break lines etc)
All clear, thank you very much for your quick response!
i'm having an issue with this
-> Loading of elevation data.
No elevation file found, I download it from viewfinderpanorama (J. de Ferranti)

E.g. from there :
osm.wno-edv-service.de/boundaries/

can you explain how yo god the symbolic link in to xplane custom scenery folder at i think you called it a junction at 2:11/14.03 ?
on v119 I'm getting the error "nvcompress.exe stopped working".

Sorry about that, sure next time. I think its because I had no space left in the OS drive (not the ortho drive). Sorted it now ;-)
When i open my Ortho4XP it doesn't have the EARTH TILE MAP button. Somebody can help me?
Nice tutorials by the way!
Then you have the old version , look for the latest version !
I have very latest version and there's no such button as well
1.20b has earth tile map at the top left
www.screencast.com/t/hJL2z7pLS8 can You ee it?
hi Oscar,
how can I use the latest map resource from google? actually GO2 -photos are corrupt :(
BTW: Thank you for this amazing tool!
You should use Bing ( BI ) those are the best !
What is the "one more thing" at the end? haha. :-)
Editor's cut ;-)
lol this end is the most funny (happy) ending I every saw :P
A quick stupid question. Can we delete the ortho once our tile is complete? I mean I'm no expert, but ortos are downloaded and then converted to dds so the ortho is just wasted space on your HDD right?
Yes you can erase everything which is not in the tile, but it will be lost if you
wish to change something on the imagery later.
wtf?
"Pyproj is not present, some providers won't be available"
But I Installed it!
