ngl one of the best things forsaken did is spawn the memes of our characters talking again "imagine messing up so bad that a godslayer breaks his 3 year vow of silence just to say he's coming for your head" and such 😂

From the lore tab on Thin Line
Sometimes you forget which side you're on.
Your ghost makes a list of things he wishes he could say to you.
"Talk to me about how you feel."
"I wish we would go home."
"You're on a rampage, and I'm not comfortable with it."
"I don't think this is why the Traveler chose you."
"You know I'll never leave you, right?"
"But sometimes... I don't like the look in your eyes."
Every day, the list grows longer.
    "I'm here. I'm still here."
    "Are you still here?"
"I don't want to lose you to this."
    "I love you."

Forsaken had such a great use of Bomb theory in filmmaking
Show the audience the bomb before everything happens then put it under the table and change the topic. The audience will still be focused on the bomb and it will be no surprise when it explodes, but it will habe all the more impact

Our ghosts aren't THAT vulnerable. The Rifleman was given a means to take out a ghost through unclear means. The source of the ammunition is established in the game's lore. It was a Devourer bullet, one crafted only for use with Weapons of Sorrow that can kill Lightbearers. They are most notably used in Thorn, Necrochasm, Touch of Malice, and Osteo Striga. The most famous of the bunch being Thorn whose rounds are like massive spikes that impale you. How the Rifleman got access to the rounds is still unclear as of this date, but it might be because of the Mindbender's fascination with Hive magicks that allowed them do craft them as they were strong enough to become Ascendant and make a throne worls, albeit a small one.

Still one of the most bizarre additions to the lore, in my opinion, since we’ve seen plenty of ghosts killed in more mundane ways before and since.

Which by the way is a terrible and contrived way of making a Guardian killing bullet for an ENERGY based crossbow. Non-paracausal enemies and weapons have killed Guardians and Ghosts before so the devourer bullet wasn’t necessary in retrospect.

There are very few moments, in gaming history, that have sent me down a path of focused single-minded fury quite like the Forsaken expansion. I used the bow. I used ONLY the bow. Every draw was angry, every arrow was personal.
6 resets Cayde had been through. 6 lifetimes. I would claim 6 generations-worth of Scorn in vengeance.

Oh yeah, i was waiting for this. In the lore, after Cayde's death the hunters rallied together in a way they simply never have before or since, hunting and killing scorn and other escapees from the prison and doing whatever else they had to.
Every vanguard member serves a unique role, but the hunter vanguard is probably the wildest. When Cayde says it was the best bet he ever lost, it was because that is how the title of hunter vanguard is passed along. Hunters have an innate pull towards freedom and wandering, which clashes with the duties of a vanguard who is supposed to mentor and organize their class of guardian. A dare was made, and Cayde lost, so he had to take over the position. I havent played in a little bit but iirc the position of hunter vanguard still hasnt been filled since his death.

I stopped playing D2 at around the black armory season, when I came back to playing the game around season 22 I thought Crow (Uldren) would take the Hunter Vanguard role because he got that cutscene where he got revived by a ghost as a guardian and Cayde's dare was for any hunter that successfully kills him gets to take on the role and judging by Uldren's Cape with Hood drip he looks like a hunter.

Little lore dump on the Scorn and Uldren surviving. It's kind of unsure how exactly he survived, but his ship was damaged and he ended up on the tangled shore eventually. He was infected with some kind of dark sickness so his head wasn't all there. He found a dying dreg somewhere and unknowingly made a wish to Riven, a wish dragon, to save the dreg. In doing so, Riven bound the dark sickness in Uldren to the dying dreg's ether, making Fikrul.
Also, Variks is gone because HE is the reason the prison break happened in the first place.

note 1: You're right about these purple-wearing Fallen recognizing Uldren as a "ruler", well done! Some summarized lore context behind that:
    - After the space battle in the Taken King, Uldren crash-landed on Mars. He started hearing Mara's voice since then.
    - He let himself get captured by the Fallen House of Kings (they were the Fallen wearing yellow; you've seen them briefly, in House of Wolves; we interrupted their negotiation talks of unification under the Fallen House of Wolves)
-Towards the end of Destiny 1 Uldren then became the Kell of the House of Kings, started uniting other Fallen under the Kings'banner
-In between Destiny 1 & 2, he met the now "Fanatic", started a whole separate thing with him, leaving his responsibilities as Kell of Kings.
    - House of Kings then, without leadership, became "House of Dusk", which is the purple-color, & that's the type of Fallen we encounter since the beginning of Destiny 2
note 2: You're the 1st youtuber I subscribed to, whose' videos don't show up under my subscription tabs, but appears as the 1st thing under my "home" tab (at least the 1st one I noticed). I've no clue what that's about; I've tried unsub/re-sub, & I tried all notifications on, but it's not working.
Just thought I should let you know.

The subscription thing is something TH-camrs do when there channel isn't doing to great. When you upload a video, you can deselect a checkbox to shown video to subscribers.
If a video goes to the subscription box, and then no one views it, it dooms the video for eternity. But if you deselect that box, the algorithm with try different audiences first in the form of recommendations and home feeds, and that makes the video have a greater chance of it getting more views.

I know how much you love Variks, but he did inadvertently cause Cayde's death. When Mara died and Uldren was presumed dead, he assumed control of Uldren's Crows, his military force, and any info and secrets that came with the territory. Petra Venj became Temporary Queen since Mara died. Since Variks had all of these knew secrets, he couldn't leave the reef if he wanted to as the Awoken would take him back by force. If all of the info got into the wrong hands, it could spell disaster for the awoken. So Variks caused the breakout/riot to escape in the ensuing chaos. But Variks couldn't have seen Cayde coming to help, but he could assume that the Awoken would've handled everything but, couldn't see us and Cayde coming.

  • @themuzzy2020
    @themuzzy2020 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

Oh right! I guess you wouldn’t recognize the rock Uldren visited in the EDZ, since by the time people started compiling the campaigns, the initial subclass missions were gone.
So in Vanilla D2, all classes started the game with the classic subclasses and supers they’re known for. When we get our light back at the shard of the traveler, we get the **new** subclasses-the ones seen in the vision it sends us.
In the base game the only way to get the other two elements was to randomly loot an object tied to that subclass and power it up through a quest. We would feel a calling and venture back into the dark forest, see what appear to be light manifesting as projections and then come upon a second shard, where the 2nd and 3rd subclasses are acquired. That shard is the one Uldren visits for a much smaller fragment of the Traveler.
I’m also sad that this forsaken compilation doesn’t include the mission on Io where the first new forsaken super is acquired. The Traveler appears to speak to us directly and it’s pretty neat. Anyway, glad you’re enjoying the story so far!

I feel for you so much because so much of the lore isn't in cut scenes or gameplay - it's in the books/lore entries you earn. So much of the important stuff - particularly that we learn about the Awoken (how they came to be etc) is in the Lore Books. I would also suggest you try to find the seasonal cutscenes from here on because a lot of lore stuff - like HUGE story lore points are in the seasonal content. Also Yes, the Sov's are historically just hot - Uldren also is a really interesting and not just evil character - particularly if you look into the lore books. I love the lore of Destiny, it's what keeps me around.

It really seems like the ghosts durability is a bit wonky, in some lore cards Guardians ghosts get smashed left and right by anything, and in some apparently it takes basically continent shattering bombs to destroy a ghost
Like I saw in the comments, Cayde's specifically was because of SPECIAL weaponry used, but it definitely is something that's gone back and forth over time in the lore, my head cannon is basically the stronger the guardian, the more sturdy the ghost so it's different for each guardian

    • @DancingViru
      @DancingViru 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

this was explained by 1 of the writers on a twitter post ages ago (yeah I know it sucks that it wasn't in the game) but basically, the Light of the Traveler only ever reached up to the Reef, which orbits the sun between Mars & Jupiter.
If Ghosts are beyond that perimeter, then they're vulnerable to die permanently upon destruction.
Within the reach of the Traveler's Light, Ghosts can only die through paracausal means, either with Darkness-forged weapons/bullets, like in Cayde's case, or by the hands of another wileder of paracausal powers, like another Guardian.
I'm making the distinction of "paracausal power" & "permanently dying upon destruction" because Ghosts can always be destroyed, & depending on the damage, they can either self-repair, or be repaired by another Ghost.

      @amUusTV 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@DancingViru Right but.. Twilight Gap for example, our ghosts would be completed protected on earth, yet we lost TONS of Guardians, but that excuse could just be super heavy weaponry I guess, on every single Guardian they killed, or Darkness Zones, which if that's the case TO ME feel kinda pick and choose, some ghosts definitely were affected, others maybe not so much

_”The sound of her voice ripped him from sleep. He jumped up; his ship was still contained in its protective sphere. He tried to retract the shield, but it was locked to its initiation time. He couldn’t remember activating it. Then he remembered the battle. That blast._
      (...)
_He climbed out and saw the damage to his ship, and the truths of the armada's devastation sunk in._
_He turned in despair to find hundreds of his Crow drones, deployed on Mars long ago, circling his ship, waiting._
_“Welcome back, Master.” The one closest to him spoke first, and the others followed, a wave of salutations echoed throughout the dry sea._
      _And with that hope returned._
