Jean, I did the same thing when I made myself a quilt from my Mother’s clothing after she passed away. I had made a huge mistake that I never noticed until I got it back from the long arm quilter. When I noticed it I couldn’t help but laugh because I could just hear Mom say “Oh, don’t worry about it. It just gives it character.” So, I decided to just enjoy the quilt and not fret about it!
SO much character!!! Although there are some who just can't live with that character and would rip out and re do!! Ain't nobody got time for that!!! LOL!
I love your quilt and your style of teaching. I learn best from my mistakes. And seeing that even the most advanced quilt makers learn along the way. Bless you for sharing your mistakes and how you learned.
The quilt looks lovely, I’m in my sewing room processing old t-shirts into rags and for a quilt while I’m listening to you!!! It’s like sewing with a friend!!!!
So glad you showed us when you sewed in the wrong strip because we will probably do that too and it wasn’t that hard to take out and put in the correct one. Thanks so much for the tutorial, such pretty patterns.
I haven’t thought about this quilt in years! I taught this quilt to hundreds of people in all day classes. I also wrote a book on this quilt (out of print). My approach was somewhat different but in the end the result was the same. I enjoyed watching your process. And, thanks for the memories! Love your videos, Jean. Keep it up.
Jean My Lovely One, At first I started to get a " annoyment" as a family member says, thinkin' " oh, for goodness sake", then I started laughing as I shouted that you just need to turn it around because of course, Jean, you can hear me. I do enjoy watching you so keep being yourself for, as you know My Lovely, everyone else is taken. Blessings.
It's only after the fact that I 'get' things, and then maybe only after someone more clever points things out!! It was several who pointed out that I could just have explained to make four of the same and turn them all 1/4 turn!! DUH!!! LOL! LOL! But I got there in the end:)
I loved watching this video. I will be confused, just as you were! You are real and I truly enjoyed your video. The two stripes would bug me so I would have to turn them but I don't feel intimidated with this. I appreciate your leaving the true steps and some confusion in the video!
Totally loved it! I need a quick quilt top for my daughter for a Boy Scout quilt for them to show quilting at summer camp. I will be making this out of some jelly rolls I have. Thank you so much, I have been playing around with what I should make and this should be so easy. This should be quick to make. Thank you again.
One of the best tutorials for this Trip Around the World! I’ve seen many and this one is absolutely supreme! Thank you for all you do for the quilt community. 🙌🏻
My friends and I are making a small wall hanging. You are the only one I’ve seen online who explained the center rows clearly, Beautiful pieces Thank you, 💕
WOW, I had looked at this quilt in a pattern book and was totally confused and turned the page. Thank you so much for making it so easy to understand. Now it is added to my to-do list. You are such a great teacher. You break it down in easy to understand language. Have a great day. Hugs Nicole
I love this quilt! Thanks so much for making it and the video for us, I know it’s a lot of work to film these and edit. It’s much appreciated! Thanks Anita for suggesting this pattern, I can’t wait to make it. Glad you are feeling better Jean, vertigo is definitely no fun!
Thanks to Jean she is such a lovely person, she is such a natural. I have wanted to do this quilt for such a long time and I could never understand how much fabric or jelly rolls I would need. Didn't know how to work it out! Best regards Anita xx
@@anitavisram8346 I would have thought this design would be so much harder, but Jean’s directions are great, totally doable even for someone new like me 😁 would love to see yours when you finish it!
What gorgeous quilts! I get so mesmerized watching you choose fabric placement. That's not a skill I have just yet, but I am getting better. Thanks for another terrific tutorial, Jean!
Love your darling little quilt. It took you long enough to find the "mistake", I don’t think I would have noticed it if you hadn’t pointed it out 😂😂 now I like it.
Chris Hunt North wales UK Thank you Jean I seem to have the same problem with angles and numbers that you do so your way of explaining his quilt has really helped me. Can't wait to raid my stash and put it into practice.
Frankly Jean, I enjoyed watching this vid. Despite you being somewhat muddled at times, I actually understand your explanation well, especially with the help of the grid diagram you drew. Your Rigmarole and disoriented moments had me in stitches, but I love you for it, as you did not edit away that crucial point when you realised your mistakes so that your viewers will learn from it. Your method for piecing this quilt seems easier compared to some other tutorials of the same quilt that I've seen. So, Thank you very much! Oh, I must add that your colour scheme is splendid! This is a quilt that anyone would TRUELY LOVE, just like your name.
Aw you are very kind! Especially as you watched my entire video!! LOL! I tend not to edit out much ~ this is truly 'Reality'! LOL! Thanks again for your kind words Paula;)
You are so welcome! I too was intimidated at this pattern!! LOL! But once I broke it down and figured it VISUALLY, as i do things, it made sense and really was quite easy! I think if I had to follow a written pattern with all the graphs and numbers and placements, I would have walked away...well....actually I DID walk away for many years!!! LOL!
What beautiful quilts!!! The trip around the world quilt is one I always wanted to make. I'd forgotten about that. Now I will have to add that to my list. One of these days I'll get it done. Thank you, Jean, for the tutorial.
Another beautiful quilt from Jean. I have the math thing going on too. Ughhhh Learning to quilt and homeschooling my kids is the best thing I have done for my brain. It takes me out of my math comfort zone and forces me to learn. I just wish I had had a teacher in high school that understood my non working mathematical brain. When I look at numbers my brain seizes up and takes a holiday. Lol I just believe everything happens in Gods time. There is a season under the sun for everything. I am working on some log cabin blocks and I don’t understand how to square them up. I have watched several videos about squaring up blocks. It’s hard for me unless I have that exact size block ruler because when I try to use the squares on the ruler my brain just doesn’t see it. Needless to say I have a huge ruler collection lol. I am not giving up I will get it. Can’t wait to try this Jean! What a blessing you are!
Thank you Jean for making that so simple. I never could figure out how to do the center. I have a few baby quilts to make and I think the mom and baby will love my trip around the world quilts.
Jean! Just ran across your tutorial. I want to make this “Trip” for a grandson going off to college but every tutorial I’ve seen gets me more confused than the last. You are the only one that used the graph and explained how it works!! Thank you so much!!! I am an old time quilter and never attempted this pattern because it was so confusing to me. I have a book, and 2 paper patterns I bought years ago but still confusing to me. Am I glad I found you!!!!!!
Loved this and am going to use a son’s cotton shirts. Have to do the maths to see if there is enough material ha ha. Really looking forward to the block party with different size blocks.
Thanks Jean for the video. I had originally done Eleanor Burns' Trip Around the World quilt pattern and I was not pleased with it. It is still a flimsy. I could never figure out how this version addressed the middle section. It now make sense to me! LOL. I like the idea of doing it in quadrants. So much easier that way. Again Jean thank you for taking the time to do this video.
I too can get befuddled with numbers and direction lol! Your thought process eventually makes sense, for me it’s like my inner voice is saying “wait for it...” while you are talking, then you do what your explaining and “Bam!” it makes total sense❣️. Since the black & white striped fabric is directional I would’ve re-sewn those two pieces on the horizontal middle strip “sashing” so those two black and white squares with lines are also vertical to match the direction of all the others. I loved this tutorial, fun and inviting to try. Thanks Jean‼️👍
I usually have that Ah Ha moment AFTER it is all said and done! LOL! After the fact! As far as those stripes 'going the wrong way'.....I DID notice and really couldn't be bothered to 'fix' them! I say that those are a 'design choice' and don't bother me one iota!! LOL!
Yesterday I was looking one of your video about free quilting. And you said that most of sewing machine have a button to put down the ... to be able to free quilt. After 10 years I found it!!! The problem is I was looking the instructions book in French and I didn’t find it. So I took the English book and miracle, I found it!! Thanks to you.
That is very pretty!! Thank you for showing how to do that...I can see how that can be confusing...I was getting confused ...I be, Leave I can do that...thank you...
You can do it Phyllis!! I DID make it confusing, but it really isn't! Make all four quadrants exactly the same and then turn 1/4 turn on each!! Someone just pointed that out to me!! DUH!!!!!! LOL!
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory I am going to use a paper diagram like you did..that diagram and your explanation made it not confusing to me...it became very clear... thank you again!!
Glad the block project won’t be a mystery block quilt! Will try the around the world Quilt soon. I appreciate your willingness to let us see your Confusion!
Oh Jean, I love your fabric choices! That is where I struggle. I have design block when it comes to choosing what goes together. Love your teaching method where we get to see dilemmas, errors and resolutions. I am currently working on a Scrabble quilt for my Husband and I's best friends for over 40 years. It was supposed to be for Christmas but.... after several oops, I think I should be ready to quilt it in the next week or so. I have revisited your tutorial on this several times as I've been working on it. Much Appreciated!!
Love theses quilts. Made 2 of these years ago. The way my brain turns things around I had to be real careful. Yours is beautiful with the colors you chose. Think I need to do another one again. My sis asked me to make her one to give as a baby gift. I did not see your mistake until you pointed it out. Just tell people that’s your special marker. Lol!
I started watching and thought to myself that you were too chatty, but as the video went on and I saw the remarks you had printed, I was laughing by the time you finished. I plan to try this in Christmas fabric so wish me luck. Good job explaining and even your mistakes will help us learn.
Oh thank you! I AM too chatty and I DO rattle on, but those of you who watch, know that I EVENTUALLY get there in the end!! LOL! LOL! Thanks again Karen:)
Thankyou for your demo Jean. I am so doing this quilt just as soon as my new sewing room is all back in place. But Oh Jean, I have to say how much you made me laugh at your little hiccup lol.. my eyes were watering! I love your videos Jean your so funny without even trying. You brighten my day xx
Jean, I understand only too well your confusion. If anyone points out your mistake tell them it's not a mistake that you did it on purpose to show that life isn't perfect. I'm self-taught and don't know anyone interested in quilt making. Last year I decided to make a scrap quilt in Autumn colours. On laying it out I knew something was wrong but couldn't figure it out. I went ahead and finished it. Then I saw my mistake all I could do was laugh. I had sewn all the same coloured flying geese to one side of the quilt. I had no pattern I was winging it (pardon the pun) For the past 3, months I've been planning to make a TATW quilt thank you for putting up this tutorial. Like you I'm a visual learner. Donna Jordan has a good youtube tutorial but she sews the squares individually and I want the tube method. Jean, you've done your good deed for today by helping a quilter who lives in Ireland. Slainte. (Irish for good health.)
I saw that tutorial of Donna Jordans and the squares...I too think the strip/tube method is a bit easier! Anything for ease! Love and hugs to Ireland:)
This is an absolutely wonderfully done video on the Trip Around the World. Thankyou. BTW. I love you and your videos. You are an open lovely person. And you and Ian have a great family. Good job!
Once again you nailed it with the colours! It’s lovely. My poor dog was crossing her legs this morning as I started watching your video during breakfast as per usual, and I just had to watch it through to the end. You make me smile when you are working things out, we all get brain freeze at times. Glad to see I’m not the only one. Take care. 🏴😊
i got so confused, when I actually really didn't need to! It's pointed out that I could just have made 4 sections exactly the same and then turn each 1/4 turn!! LOL! Now please take your fur baby out to pee!!!! LOL!
Hi Jean. Lovely fabrics on your around the world quilts. I am going to sort through my stash and see if I have something that will look nice for this quilt. I was gifted some Kaffe Fassett fabrics, now they ARE scrumilicious!!! I always wanted to make one of these so thank you for your tutorial. Happy sewing xxx
Oooooooo Kaffe Fassett...just up your colorful alley!!! :) This really is an EASY quilt!! If you wanted to make it bigger, just make your strips wider and then subcut to that measurement
Hi Jean, thank you for explaining this pattern so well. I am easily bamboozled because I get mixed up with my right & left and with mirror images! I'm going to make one like this soon but will watch your tutorial again while I'm making it. Also, I like the two black & white stripes that go in the opposite direction.
Like the green one, Jean. I am sure something similar in different colourways is being sold by the Kaffee Fassett Studio at the moment costing hundreds of bucks. Nice to see you back in the groove
I absolutely love the green and black! I would have never attempted this quilt. I would have looked at it and said, "I'm not sewing all those little squares together!" Haha And you made that part look so easy. However I can see a lot of ripping out to keep my strips lined up correctly. LOL Definitely going into my "must make" file. Thanks for sharing! Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs.
Oh Jan, don't stress about those seams matching us and then having to rip them out!! Ain't nobody got time for that!! LOL! If you stitch your strip sets carefully quarter inch, press well then subcut well, it should work out very well!:)
Thanks Anita, great suggestion. Jean, don't stress about your mistakes, it just shows how real you are just like we are, we all make mistakes. It is so good to see and hear you brush it off because in life we all need to brush off mistakes and not let things stress us. There is enough to tend with in life than a silly sewing mistake. Love your comment - we aren't going to make any other world trip. Ha Ha, so true. I look forward to giving this Trip around the World Quilt a go as soon as I put together my 369 hand sewn hexi's. I do the sewing and hubby lays them on the bed and makes a pattern for me then I sew them together. It is a huge Kind size for our bed. All in different green colours. I made one starting in 1982 then put it away and only finished it in 2018 all in 1980 fabric of coarse so I wanted to do one in today's fabrics. We have a feature wall in Dark green with Green curtains so I went with different shades of green for the quilt. Wish I knew how to send you a phot but I am so bad at anything tech.
You summed it up....there is MORE in REAL life to stress about, rather then getting our knickers in a twist over a misplaced quilt block!! LOL! You have your work cut out for you with your hexi's!! Good for you! You can always shoot me a picture to: Truelovequiltsforyou@gmail.com
Hi Jean, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I am still working up to making my first quilt and you are giving me the confidence to do it 😊 All the best, Barbara
I might be totally off the mark. I'm looking at it, and I think this would work. Just sew all 4 quadrants the same way, just rotate a quarter turn or spin each section.
YES!!!!! DUH!! My brain!! My silly brain went in confused overload when all I had to do was make 4 of the same and turn them!! LOL! LOL! Thanks Mary:) I really did laugh!!! :)
Thank you for the tutorial. I always go to you for extra support to make blocks. I like the way you explain it so well. I did realize it was the same pattern but turned, but I appreciated the ironing tips as well.
You'll just have to put a strip between the four that's one square different so you don't have two pieces the same touching each other. Donna Jordan from Jordan Fabrics did one.
Omg Jean! I’ve always wanted to do a Trip Around the World quilt! It’s just as confusing as I thought, 😜but with your guidance and showing the “booboo’s I might be able to do it now. I love your color choices! It’s just gorgeous! Thanks so much for doing this tutorial, I think you deserve double props for doing it! I’m sure Anita agrees! Thanks for all you do for us! You are such a sweetheart!😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💐
I did one of these 2 years ago. It helps to find a picture of the pattern online and print it out. That’s what I did and it made things so much easier!!!

I can only hope and pray it turns out as good as yours!!! Much love and many MANY prayers, love Jennifer from Bakersfield Ca.
Another great tutorial and so effective. I’ve just received a couple of jelly rolls from eBay so I’m off to check I’ve got plenty of duplicates in them ! My ninth quilt during lockdown could be on the way! Thank you for everything Jean - I’m so looking forward to sewing along with the block party too. Xx

Leave I can do that...thank you...
What a lovely quilt, I will be making one! Thank you for explaining it in a way I understand it makes sense 😉
Thank you Jean x
You’re welcome 😊Joan:)
Glad the block project won’t be a mystery block quilt! Will try the around the world
Quilt soon. I appreciate your willingness to let us see your
Confusion!
I don't know if I was WILLING to let you see my confusion....I was just too tired to edit it out!! LOL! LOL!
I just love your channel, Jean. 💕 I have learned so much from you! Thank you so much for this wonderfully fun and detailed tutorial.
Thanks for watching me:)
Thank you for the tutorial. I appreciated the confusion because these things could definitely happen to me.
Glad it was helpful! Confusion is sometimes my Middle Name!! LOL! Thanks for watching Deborah:)
I have to make this just beautiful
Thank you Karen:)
Beautiful. You made it so much easier to understand how to put it together. I want to try this quilt ❤️
I'm so glad Michelle:)
Happy to hear that Belinda! We are going to have a new granddaughter in law in March....have to add her name to our Truelove Scrabble Quilt! :)
Lol!
Thank you so much Merrilyn! I DID my brain in also!! LOL!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers Grace:)
Love this tutorial. Great way of explaining it. Thanks!
You're very welcome Karen:)
Can you imagine if I TRIED to be funny?!?! LOL!
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory 🤣😂🤣
That was the last row that you added to join the four blocks together. All in all you did a good job 👍👍
Thank you Diane:)
Pretty!
Thank you:)
What a great tutorial, thanks Jean ,I can’t wait to do this.
Hope you enjoy it Eleanor!
Gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers Eyleen:)
Jean, I understand only too well your confusion. If anyone points out your mistake tell them it's not a mistake
that you did it on purpose to show that life isn't perfect. I'm self-taught and don't know anyone interested in quilt making.
Last year I decided to make a scrap quilt in Autumn colours. On laying it out I knew something was wrong but couldn't
figure it out. I went ahead and finished it. Then I saw my mistake all I could do was laugh. I had sewn all the same coloured
flying geese to one side of the quilt. I had no pattern I was winging it (pardon the pun) For the past 3, months I've been planning
to make a TATW quilt thank you for putting up this tutorial.
Thank you for showing us how to make one, this is going to be my weekend project ❤️❤️❤️
Have fun Bella Anne:)
This will be my next challenge
It really wasn't too hard:) Al the best Sheila!
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory what is your Paetron address for Etsy?
This is an absolutely wonderfully done video on the Trip Around the World. Thankyou. BTW. I love you and your videos. You are an open lovely person. And you and Ian have a great family. Good job!
Wow, thank you Ann:)
Another beautiful quilt Jean. I love the colours in the smaller one too 💕💕
Thank you so much Suzanna:)
The black and white stripes going different directions were a mess up ~ but I call it a 'design choice'! LOL! Thanks Sylvia;)
Like the green one, Jean. I am sure something similar in different colourways is being sold by the Kaffee Fassett Studio at the moment costing hundreds of bucks. Nice to see you back in the groove
Thanks Jed:)
I love this, I will be making this quilt. thank you
Have fun Janice:)
You can do it Barbara! Remember it's just fabric and will be MUCH happier if it is sewn together and loved:)
Amazing ❤️
Thank you! Cheers Marjorie:)
Mary, you've got it. It's just four identical squares. As long as they're square it
Thank you for the tutorial.
Exactly 😅
Well done, Jean! Your eye for colors and patterns impressive! Beautiful quilt ❤️
Thank you! Cheers Patricia!
Only God is perfect. Thank you.
Ivy, I made it confusing because of my brain, but it really ISN'T a complicated quilt!! LOL!
Wow thank you so much for this tutorial,I've always wanted to make a trip around the world quilt but was too scared, but thanks you you mMrs Truelove, I will be making one!!! I can only hope and pray it turns out as good as yours!!! Much love and many MANY prayers, love Jennifer from Bakersfield Ca.
Glad it was helpful Jeniffer:)
My favourite design. 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️🇦🇺
Thank you! Cheers!
Love it!,,,
Thank you so much
You are most welcome Zareena:)
Xx
Glad it was helpful Melanie:)
