Hi Ellis. If you see this, please can you pin it? I'm so happy you've done this video! It's great to see you covering what i call proper non league, not just national league clubs that double football league attendances. I'm on the committee at Coxhoe Athletic, just south of Durham. We play in the Second Division of the Wearside League and it's been terrible to see Durham's downfall unfold. Btw, we don't even have linesmen at our level so that's my job on a matchday! I thought I'd give a bit more background into exactly what went wrong at Durham City. You did a good summary but there's a lot more to it.
City used to play at Ferens Park, in the city of Durham. However, they decided to move to New Ferens Park in Belmont, about 10 minutes from the city centre. There is now a housing estate where Ferens Park used to be. Following City's failure to get promoted to the National League North, many sponsors pulled out and the club were relegated. This was the start of an extraordinary downfall.
As City's form got worse, Bernard lost interest and has almost no involvement in the club anymore. A few years ago, City fell out with their landlord and were evicted from New Ferens Park. Since then, they have been without a permanent ground and have had to share with various clubs dotted around County Durham, a fair distance from Durham city centre. New Ferens is now home to Durham Corinthians, who also play in the First Division of the Wearside League. City experienced multiple relegations and soon found themselves bottom of the Northern League Division Two. That's one step above the Wearside League. However, when Covid hit, seasons were cancelled and City were saved. During this time, City were groundsharing with Willington AFC, who played in the same league as them. City's financial problems meant that they fell behind on their rent to Willington, a debt that eventually amounted to over £2,000, which is a lot for a club at that level.
It was around this time that City entered a partnership with Zenith Sports and Event Management, owned by Australian businessman, Chris Tanner. Whilst Bernard had no interest, Tanner's main interest was in mocking and ridiculing the club, its committee and supporters, through setting up a fake Twitter account called, "Phil Mcavittee". This was a fun pass time for Tanner. He has never even been to Durham, nor has any known links. Last season, City were relegated to the Wearside League, with their only win coming on the final day of the season. It was the result of year after year of managerial changes, board resignations, player departures and money running out. Going into this season, Bernard remained absent and Tanner seemed to enjoy the chaos that unfolded. As you said, they regularly conceded double figures in their matches at the beginning of the season. Tanner was now openly abusing anyone who questioned what was going on and discriminated against many people, whilst blocking others on the club's Twitter account and failing to update supporters on the situation both on and off the field. This finally began to attract negative attention from the media so Bernard ended the club's relationship with Zenith and sacked Tanner. Tanner retaliated by withdrawing the club from the league. However, he didn't have the authority to do this. Bernard appointed Gary Hutchinson as club secretary, a long standing associate of the club. Bernard and Hutchinson negotiated with the League who allowed them back in on the conditions that they paid a £250 bond and repaid all their debt to Willington, who are now rock bottom of the Northern League Division Two. Once this was paid, City began to rebuild with a brand new committee and squad. It is hoped that come the end of the season, Bernard will pull out completely. It has still taken City a while to recover but they haven't been getting hammered every week and I'm glad to see them get their first point. They are now playing at Farringdon, which is closer to Sunderland than it is to Durham. It's a ground I've been to a few times when Farringdon have played Coxhoe.
Once again, thanks for doing this Ellis!

As someone who has helped the club this season under Tanner and Gary I can personally and honestly tell you the difference is night and day I just beg anyone who has followed Durham in the past and went away. Please if they have any care for Durham to return now as your support will be used in the right way. And financially their support will only be directed to improving the facilities and team at Durham.

They play in Group 10 of the Segunda Regional FFCV, which is effectively Tier 8 of the pyramid system in Spain.
This season they have played 19, lost 19, scored 3 goals and conceded 427, which means they have a goal difference of minus 424. Last Sunday they lost 0-16 at home to the B team of CD Benifaio, a decent scoreline since they lost 0-39 at home just before Christmas to CD Atlético Càrcer.

I lived in England for a while and one of the places I lived (for 1 year) was Darlington. That season I lived there (2009/10), was when the decline of Durham City started. They were still at their old ground, but their whole squad left after investor walked away. They had to play in the Northern Premier League with a youth team. I've been to a game when they were on 0 points after (I believe) 28 matches. People then still had a feeling that they'd overcome it, relegation was obviously accepted by that point but they were hopeful the club could be built back up. So sad to see them in this state now. I really hope for them they can pick themselves up and rebuild the club.

NK Parag have competed in last tier of Croatian football since their founding in 2012 I think. They have finished last almost every season, often with zero points won and always with a huge goal difference. This season however they are in the middle of the table and have won far more points than in any past season (and we're only in the middle of a season). They actually don't have a home ground so they play all of their games away.

Non League football really is fantastic. You can drink in the stands and the matchday food is amazing as well. Really wasn't expecting Durham to get anything at 3-0 down and when it went to 3-3, I thought they would win 🤣.

Hey Ellis, I feel like you should go to the true worst team in the world, at least in England. After doing some research, this is what I found:
There are 20 Steps in England, which there are 2 leagues that are part of the 20th step.
They are the Central & South Norfolk League Division 4 (CSN4) and the Devon and Exeter League (DEL8) Division 8.
The worst team in the CSN4 is Necton FC, while the worst team in the DEL8 is Amory Green Rovers 2nd.
However, Amory Green Rovers are on 7 points (with adjustments apparently) and Necton is on 4 points (without Adjustments)
Adding onto that, Amory Green Rovers had 3 Wins when Necton only have One.
Therefore, Necton is the worst team in England. You should watch their games as they still have matches in Late April and Early May.
*Note: Theres a team in the CSN4 called Belton Reserves, who are on 0 points. However, they apparently withdrawn from the league or something else because all their games are either not played or have been Voided, therefore it should not count. So therefore Necton is still the worst team, at least in 22/23

When on verge of National League North - they plaid @ New Ferens Park, the ground was built with the ambition to expand, as needed, into a National league stadium, but an artificial pitch was laid, which was then banned at that level - the sponsors then pulled all their funding, the ground and club owners fell out and DCFC were evicted (even though the City council had approved the building of the ground for football! - The club then tumbled down leagues - from the then Norther Premier league, through the Northern League until today.

Very similar position where Durham City AFC are, I am from Weymouth and play in Sunday League in Weymouth and there is 1 team in Sunday League Weymouth called Wyke Budgies and have lost all their games this season and only have scored about 2 goals. 1 scored in 1 and 1 in the other. They have sat at the bottom end from start of the season to the end of the season. Most of the games they played have minimum of 7 or more goals conceded

6:10 how have they got a proper lino at step 10? When did that start happening? I had a club at step 10, even worse than this one I’m pretty sure (really shouldn’t have started in the Prem of that league) and we didn’t get a lino.
Although in fairness we did manage to start losing by only the 1 goal and get the occasional draw and a win. It was just the start and end of the season that had some score lines like they have had this season.

You don’t have to answer this but I’d be chuffed if you do. I’m thinking of getting the same RØDE wireless mics that you use in this video but haven’t yet because of price. I’d love to know if you have felt they are worth the money and that they haven’t let you down (by “let you down” I mean radio mic interference whenever you’re near a metal fence, mobile phone etc). I also saw you used a little wind thing, do you only need that with strong wind or do you need it even with a simple breeze? I haven’t got much money so only want to buy them if they’re really good. You don’t have to answer this but if you want to help out a fellow TH-camr I’d appreciate it.
