      Yes, I wish reactors would always first review the studio recordings (the ones that made it a hit and that we all remember and love) before any live recording, UNLESS the live version was the most popular or the one that charted.

    This is about a rock singer dating an opera singer and they didn't like each others music but then they played together and then liked each other music and i think the Mayor was there but I wasn't really sure.

    The word “genius” is way over-used,but in Jeff Lynnes case,absolutely spot on.
    Genius indeed.

    On the album version the lyrics were shared between Jeff Lynne and Kelly Groucutt. Unfortunately, Kelly died a few years back and so they are now shared with Iain Hornell who does a great job.

    A New World Record album was more than just "successful". It was a big hit. So many songs from it were played on the radio at the time. I bought the album way back then and loved it ever since. Must hear other tunes from it like: "Tightrope", "Telephone Line", "So Fine", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Shangri-La". Enjoy!

    Honestly, it really is best to always first review the studio recording of a song you've never heard before (the one that made it a hit and that we all remember and love) before any live recording, UNLESS the live version was the most popular or the one that charted.

      As a musician I always prefer to see the live versions, as you get to a see a usually superior version, and the band interaction and having fun

  • @lauraallen55
    @lauraallen55 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    ---> This, what you said, one constant is Jeff Lynne. Not just his voice and guitar, but writing, producing, all of it. He plays a lot of the instruments too. He does it all. He is and was ELO.
    As for if the studio version has the same elements as the live - YES, even more so!
    This version and this song are some of the last things I would have recommended for you to hear from ELO. You are missing all the best of them. I love the live more recent performances, don't get me wrong, but you *just must* hear them in their hey day. You will get so much more of his brilliance.

  • @lauraallen55
    @lauraallen55 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    If you don't hear Out of the Blue (or several other albums of theirs) it would be a crime.
    Like others say, you need the studio version first. That said, Jeff is just beyond brilliant - still.
    The most stunning thing of theirs to *see* is Roll Over Beethoven (not a later version like this).
    The reason the later work is called 'Jeff Lynne's ELO' is because a member or two split from the band and called themselves ELO II or something like that, and Jeff said it was always his band, so he started calling his band Jeff Lynne's ELO and look who's still around and who isn't!
    ELO has just so many songs you need to hear. Jeff Lynne's ELO is great, but dig in to the early ELO band music. So. much goodness to be had.
    This song is more rockabilly than country, and it's because Jeff experimented with so many different things. They were experimental or art rock more than anything else. He wrote most of the music to the movie Xanadu. ELO's (Jeff's) answer to disco was an absolutely killer song called Last Train to London. See a video from Xanadu or the flash mob version of All Over the World. ELO has many many songs you must hear. Big rabbit hole.

    I just found you, I'm a new subscriber. Fun channel! I love your musical insights. Jeff Lynne's ELO is out on a North American tour right now. As you know they are fantastic live and in person and it took Jeff a long time to enjoy playing these almost impossible to play studio songs, live. It's the best concert of the year and they are performing - Rockaria! Would be fun to get your reaction to the concert or the Rockaria! studio version...

      @@SalvoG It seems you've only heard live ELO and more recent versions. You truly need to listen to early ELO (same songs as these). They have so many killer songs. And, yes, ELO is all Jeff's and yes, he is a genius. When ELO came on the scene, they were very experimental with the use of vocoder and the use of strings in rock songs and just so many other things. No one was doing the things they were. You must hear their early stuff and the studio versions. There is a reason everyone is saying it. Jeff is a genius in the studio preferring it over the limelight.

    It's a Shame he has to be mentioned as from ElO because most people don't know his name. Been listening to them from early days. Even with Traveling W's others were mentioned and he was always mentioned and surnote of from ELO.

      Jeff chose to be publicly low key during his prime ELO years. He said that he felt awkward being a “front man” and avoided the spotlight.
      A good result of naming it “Jeff Lynne’s ELO” today is more music fans know who he is and the music he’s responsible for. I’ve heard him referred to by name more than ever. As he’s gotten older, l’d say he now appreciates the attention he gets.

    Sounding great, still kicking it! Too true and in that show (it went out live on radio and TV) Jeff was poorly, you can tell he was a bit down on the energy and the backing singer did more of it that usual. Melanie Lewis Macdonald was the female backing singer doing the operatic parts. Welsh opera singer Mary Thomas (RIP) sang on the original record. In the live shows in the 70s era that operatic part was sung by Kelly Groucutt (RIP) , who had an excellent falsetto singing voice.

    If you find live versions from Wembley Stadium in 2017, it was the first time Jeff had the budget to have full live productions that rival the studio recordings. There are variations from the originals, but mostly musical choices and not compromising for lack of players and instrumentation. Check out the whole concert. "Wembly or Bust"

    In music, an aria (Italian: [ˈaːrja]; plural: arie [ˈaːrje], or arias in common usage, diminutive form arietta [aˈrjetta], plural ariette, or in English simply air) is a self-contained piece for one voice, in this case a rock aria.
