I enjoy watching these even if I haven’t seen the movie(s). Coming from another film major you sound like you know what you’re talking about & I genuinely want to hear your thoughts.
Have you seen the movies known as the best of all time, Casablanca and Gone With the Wind? I'm curious cause i knew a film major who'd never seen those and i was very surprised.
i completely get rating Across the Spiderverse so low because same 😭 even first watch at the end i understood that, yeah, the movie was basically about Gwen and her arc but it didn’t feel full enough for that. Felt so blue balled by the end bc it just started getting real good. At least the more i watch it the more i love it and i think for now it’s currently tied with the first movie for me but i cant get over how disappointed i was in the cinema because they did not announce once at all in any promotions i’ve seen or even during the movie that it would be a part 1 until the credits were about to roll. About the Devil Wears Prada tho, i honestly don’t think Andy did too much wrong other than kinda cheating on her ex who wasn’t 100% her ex at that moment (ur right in that it was very unsure) and taking the Paris trip from Emily was bc she was promoted for surpassing her as Miranda’s assistant but yeah it was pretty cruel to Emily (i think saying sorry with giving her all the dresses worked tho bc the dresses is what Emily mainly wanted from the trip). I still think most of that was Miranda manipulating Andy tho and i just want to say that i hate Andy’s friends and boyfriend. Andy got them all gifts from being an assistant and they almost cost her that very job and the bf can’t be supportive of his girlfriend for having it either? i hate that they end up back together.
it’s hard to fairly rate Across because it’s the second movie of a trilogy - hit or miss in beating out the first and needs to be left open ended to lead into the third movie. not you in specific, but I’ve seen people lowball their score just because of the lack of an ending despite the rest of the movie being phenomenal, and it’s a little frustrating lol. istg if there wasn’t a brightly colored “to be continued” sign, people would just think that was THE end 😭
I love skinamarink because its just unsettling and it reminds me if being scared in my old house when i was little. I also think you gotta know its gonna be a bit different going in, because i think people watch it expecting classic scary but its just supposed to creep you out. Best watched in the dark at 3 am :)
Ima hear you on Napoleon and Nacho but hear me out Nacho is more of an actual movie with a plot and even with those silly random scenes they do lead into the main plot Napoleon on the other hand...comes off like a guy took a video camera and filmed his life in a week or two and honestly i vibe with that It gives that nostalgic vibe that brings me back to childhood. I agree...there's really no plot but like, character wise while everyone was like not "normal" ive felt like i've met people like that in my life/am one of those people Also while Devil Wears Prada is probably my biggest guilty pleasure....Andie gets more hate than she deserves, she did the wrong thing but was manipulated but thankfully got out of that lifestyle HER BOYFRIEND AND FRIENDS THO...like omg actual villains...they are fine with her job when they get stuff but aw man, she's working hard...no she's weird now
This was actually really interesting. I agree with a lot of the takes -- but not Mario. I'm with the people saying it's basic because it had to be basic, not only to attract kids but also those more unfamiliar with the series. Imo the abundance of easter eggs and background details made up for it. But I do agree on the point about the licensed music; what was up with that?
never seen someone misunderstand napoleon dynamite so hard lmfao the fact that the plot stagnates is the fucking point. you’re supposed to be feeling the awkwardness and discomfort that comes along with being a dweeby teen trying to make your own fun and identify your place in a tiny town full of people who already made up their mind about who they think you are years ago. as someone who lived that experience, it’s not something that had a clean beginning-middle-end with noticeable growth or change of character, but rather a begrudging and meandering acceptance of the way things are, and telling this story through the former wouldn’t do it any justice
The devil wears Prada was one of the least entertaining movies I watched. Obvi Meryl Streep fucking killed it, and also Stanley Tucci but everything else kinda sucked. The way she lets go of her boyfriend is so weird and the new love interest is just…not a love interest. One of my least favorite movies ever.
You didn't like Spiderverse?! *pulls out ak49* Just kidding, I just couldn't help myself when I saw the thumbnail. I appreciate the diversity in videos! I'm very interested in what you have to say. 🙌🏼
THANK GOD as a Batman fan I have felt so ashamed for not liking the nolan movies because it’s just something “you have to like” im so relieved someone else shares my opinion
I love TDK, but it’s one of the most overrated movies of all time, and it’s mainly due to IMDb ranking it as like the third best movie ever made, and I think people just ran with that.
In defense of the dark knight it is the second movie of a trilogy. So Rachel was established in the first movie as his love interest. Hence her importance in the story and why her death had such an impact on him. Also batman is supposed to be CSI like he is a detective trying to solve crimes. And while I'm not a huge fan of bale and his weird growl voice, the heath joker is one of the greatest villains in cinema.
I may be wrong, but my take away from the devil wears prada was that Andy wasn’t supposed to be a likeable character. She judges the fashion industry and the people within it, without really knowing anything about the industry. But then when she starts benefiting from it, she starts doing the exact things she judges other people for, but is still too in denial to admit it because she still thinks she’s different. And then obviously her moment of becoming a better person (for lack of a better description) is when she decides to quit. Tbh though I think everything in the relationship with her and her boyfriend was wrong, that should’ve just ended, idrk why they brought them back together. The boyfriend sucked and didn’t take her job seriously because of the industry it was in, even when she actually started to become interested in it, but also she literally cheated on him. Kind of can’t stand them two together
For me a big issue with talk to me was the characters not making sense. (SPOILERS) but why does her friend go to her house when she calls her when she hasn’t forgiven her yet (or shown any signs of being there for her as a friend)? why does her dad reveal the truth about her mom the day a traumatic event that he knows about because he picked her up from the police station?? Why don’t they ever show what the family unit was like before her mom died so we can see if the father changed at all after the death? Why is the brothers friend introduced then disappears from the movie right after the accident? I get what they were trying to do with addiction but I feel like the characters weren’t utilized well beyond the main three. Especially the two who owned the hand. Also the ending implies that all the spirits are ppl who the hand stole the souls of so why is it all old ppl? It would have been cool if the guy from the beginning was revealed as a spirit later. The editing was also so much cooler in the first third of the film. From then on it was kinda boring from a filmmaking perspective (not plot)
@@AaronCrafty thanks, I was just kinda disappointed because the premise was so cool, and the acting was pretty good. I just feel like the screenplay needed a few more drafts
I think a flawed main character is fine especially in the devil wears prada because Andy was supposed to become the next "devil" wasnt she? She was on track to becoming like meryl streeps character until she left. She definitely shouldnt have ended up with her bf again tho...
If you haven't seen this movie yet, Undercover Brother is a fun watch. It's a comedy spy movie with some 70s vibes. It has similarities to Austin Powers. There are some outdated jokes in it, but aside fron that it's a hilarious movie that I wish was more well known.
Gotg 3 is so true! I see a lot of people praising it and saying it’s better than the first two but imo it has pacing issues and the comedy was kind of bad / cringey. The only thing I liked about it was rocket’s backstory and high evolutionary as a villain
20:39 Second lead syndrome. I almost never root for the childhood friend/love. I’m always gonna vote for the guy you met as a fully realized adult and had chemistry with.
I just watched The Devil Wears Prada for the first time the other day, and I completely agree with you. I love the vibe, but the story isn't the best. Hate the "not like other girls" cliche.
you weren’t supposed to cheer for Andy when she screwed Emily Blunt over, it’s supposed to show how she becomes like Miranda, the best character according to your words (job>human connections) and the relationship with her boyfriend is whole other topic that requires too much yapping but the point is she got caught up in the ruthless fashion world and its laws basically having a negative character development. but she redeems herself at the end when she realises she doesn’t want to be like Miranda and leaves her coming back to her old renovated self, where she doesn’t need to be size 4 or curry favor outside her working hours with her boss who was abusive
I wish you and jo would do more “intellectual” movie videos, just talking about your opinions and knowledge and actually watching relevant movies (not all old barbie movies), not saying u gotta lower the goofy stuff, that’s great too but You guys just have actual interesting opinions that is worth sharing, and not just watching meme movies

it wasn't that controversal. well... maybe the dark knight was very controversal, because this movie is soo good! but other than that, i love to hear you talk about movies. keep it up!
I think you missed the purpose of Napoleon Dynamite tbh, the fact that theres no plot arc or whatever is kind of the point, the daily life of these awkward outcasts is the plot of the movie. Theres no arc or conflict purposely to make it feel realer. Its intentional. I understand how it becomes not as enjoyable to watch and giving your 5/10 rating due to that is 100 percent valid. but making it seem as if this movie is supposed to have a conflict or saying its a compilation of these moments and rating it based off that is ... misinformed a little. I think ur valid in rating it off ur own option of course, I just feel like you watched it under the guise that its structure like a Hollywood normal movie. It very much unstructured in this way intentionally, definitely not for everyone though.
I think a 5/10 for The Dark Knight is a bit low, but I can see where you're coming from. Nolan's version of Batman is a lot more "grounded"; it's not as "hyperbolic" or stylized as Batman from the comics (I'd argue that if you approach Nolan's Batman films more from this sense, then the style becomes more clear and you realize that it's actually good for a more "grounded" Batman). It's kind of a more "Bond-ish" Batman film, in a sense. But I think why a lot of people love The Dark Knight, and Nolan films in general, is that even though Nolan might have some faults (such as lack of greater emotional depth for characters for me), the guy knows what a film needs to make it "good," especially the need for films to be jam-packed with stuff to keep the plot moving and/or interesting, which makes them highly engaging to an audience (despite how inaccurate the film might be to the original character/franchise). This is one of the reasons why I didn't like Reeves' Batman as much because I didn't think the plot/story/characters had a lot going for them, but I think so many people loved Reeves' film because the atmosphere and styling were spot on for Batman from the comics (and I'd argue they got "tricked" into liking that film more for that reason xP).
Yea I don't think there's been a batman movie that has fully scratched the batman itch for me. Reeves' Batman was good but lacked some things I'd like to see more of.
@@AaronCrafty As far as Batman from the comics go, yeah, I don't think we've seen one yet. Ben Affleck's Batman was probably the most accurate Batman to date but he barely got to do anything, lol.
Skipped Oppenheimer somehow. Gave that an 8/10. Will prolly do a Part 2 to this in a couple months cause I've been watching movies almost nightly.

i also watched portrait of a lady on fire for the first time this year! i loved how non male-gazey it was lol
Aaron about The Dark Knight: only the joker is cool. Me: well that’s the reason it’s my fav Batman movie. Literally Heath Ledger
Would love a part 2!
you need to do more of these videos!!!!
aaron give us the part twooooooo
Woa a 3 for rec? I remember loving the spanish version but hating it in english but i dont know if i would give it a 3 😅
totally agree with you on past lives
ARRON THANK YOU FOR POSTING MY ANINATION
I loved talk to me, one of my favourites this year.
Fun video can watch this type of content all day so much fun
ty!
it’s hard to fairly rate Across because it’s the second movie of a trilogy - hit or miss in beating out the first and needs to be left open ended to lead into the third movie. not you in specific, but I’ve seen people lowball their score just because of the lack of an ending despite the rest of the movie being phenomenal, and it’s a little frustrating lol.
istg if there wasn’t a brightly colored “to be continued” sign, people would just think that was THE end 😭
I love skinamarink because its just unsettling and it reminds me if being scared in my old house when i was little. I also think you gotta know its gonna be a bit different going in, because i think people watch it expecting classic scary but its just supposed to creep you out. Best watched in the dark at 3 am :)
Ima hear you on Napoleon and Nacho but hear me out
Nacho is more of an actual movie with a plot and even with those silly random scenes they do lead into the main plot
Napoleon on the other hand...comes off like a guy took a video camera and filmed his life in a week or two and honestly i vibe with that
It gives that nostalgic vibe that brings me back to childhood. I agree...there's really no plot but like, character wise while everyone was like not "normal" ive felt like i've met people like that in my life/am one of those people
Also while Devil Wears Prada is probably my biggest guilty pleasure....Andie gets more hate than she deserves, she did the wrong thing but was manipulated but thankfully got out of that lifestyle
HER BOYFRIEND AND FRIENDS THO...like omg actual villains...they are fine with her job when they get stuff but aw man, she's working hard...no she's weird now
This was actually really interesting.
You should watch the Sasquatch Gang. Made by same dude who made Napoleon Dynamite but imo is 1000 times better. Also, the pacing is really good
Good ass video, I need more!
Hard agree about mario, even as a fan when i was done watching the movie i said, "why are people mad at critics?"
never seen someone misunderstand napoleon dynamite so hard lmfao the fact that the plot stagnates is the fucking point. you’re supposed to be feeling the awkwardness and discomfort that comes along with being a dweeby teen trying to make your own fun and identify your place in a tiny town full of people who already made up their mind about who they think you are years ago. as someone who lived that experience, it’s not something that had a clean beginning-middle-end with noticeable growth or change of character, but rather a begrudging and meandering acceptance of the way things are, and telling this story through the former wouldn’t do it any justice
I'm so glad you like Skinnamarink! I said exactly everything you said after crying for 30 minutes after the movie. I'm a bit of a wussy whoops.
I feel validated on the dark knight because I fall asleep every time I try to watch any of the movies in the series LOL
Amazing reviews :D subbed
ty!
i enjoyed this video sm
:)
Legend for flaming up TDK 🕯
You didn't like Spiderverse?! *pulls out ak49*
Just kidding, I just couldn't help myself when I saw the thumbnail. I appreciate the diversity in videos! I'm very interested in what you have to say. 🙌🏼
I love Aaron but the thumbnail was about to make me go off until I actually watched lol
THANK GOD as a Batman fan I have felt so ashamed for not liking the nolan movies because it’s just something “you have to like” im so relieved someone else shares my opinion
No you should still be ashamed
i gave talk to me 8/10 but you summarized my exact feelings on it
I loved skinamarink!! Watched it all alone in the middle of the night in a big empty house and I was DISTURBED
(SPOILERS)
but why does her friend go to her house when she calls her when she hasn’t forgiven her yet (or shown any signs of being there for her as a friend)? why does her dad reveal the truth about her mom the day a traumatic event that he knows about because he picked her up from the police station??
Valid complaints. Didn't notice some of these.
@@AaronCrafty thanks, I was just kinda disappointed because the premise was so cool, and the acting was pretty good. I just feel like the screenplay needed a few more drafts
aaron do you have a letterboxd?? i would love to see your reviews
okay ngl i was staring at those circle things that look like eyes in your closet the whole video.
If you're looking for a good found footage horror movie and you haven't already seen it -- The Blair Witch Project. Haunts me to this day.
boring
I think a flawed main character is fine especially in the devil wears prada because Andy was supposed to become the next "devil" wasnt she? She was on track to becoming like meryl streeps character until she left. She definitely shouldnt have ended up with her bf again tho...
Yea and getting the journalist job so quick at the end
If you haven't seen this movie yet, Undercover Brother is a fun watch. It's a comedy spy movie with some 70s vibes. It has similarities to Austin Powers. There are some outdated jokes in it, but aside fron that it's a hilarious movie that I wish was more well known.
rec slaps sorry man, classic
Gotg 3 is so true! I see a lot of people praising it and saying it’s better than the first two but imo it has pacing issues and the comedy was kind of bad / cringey. The only thing I liked about it was rocket’s backstory and high evolutionary as a villain
3/10 for Rec?... please don't tell me you liked "Quarantine" better
Hate the "not like other girls" cliche.
barbie was fun but when you actually try and think about the point it makes me want to smash my head against the wall bc it was so badly done
why do you think it was badly done?
peep the spirited away blanket 💯
Nah bc why hasn’t there been a batman and robin movie since like the 70’s
I was waiting for Beau Is Afraid like 🧍♂️
you weren’t supposed to cheer for Andy when she screwed Emily Blunt over, it’s supposed to show how she becomes like Miranda, the best character according to your words (job>human connections) and the relationship with her boyfriend is whole other topic that requires too much yapping but the point is she got caught up in the ruthless fashion world and its laws basically having a negative character development. but she redeems herself at the end when she realises she doesn’t want to be like Miranda and leaves her coming back to her old renovated self, where she doesn’t need to be size 4 or curry favor outside her working hours with her boss who was abusive
the dark knight criticism is valid btw
I wish you and jo would do more “intellectual” movie videos, just talking about your opinions and knowledge and actually watching relevant movies (not all old barbie movies), not saying u gotta lower the goofy stuff, that’s great too but You guys just have actual interesting opinions that is worth sharing, and not just watching meme movies
Like it’s just so satisfying as a film student seeing other people give their unfiltered opinions about movies without being pretentious or anything. This is a nice video! Would love to see more of this, cause i have a feeling you have so much more to say about cinema than you guys do on the channel
exactly how i felt abt past lives genuinely don’t understand the hype😭
That Dark Knight rating though?
it wasn't that controversal. well... maybe the dark knight was very controversal, because this movie is soo good! but other than that, i love to hear you talk about movies. keep it up!
Agreed but Andi’s boyfriend is awful so I don’t feel too bad about it😗
I think you missed the purpose of Napoleon Dynamite tbh, the fact that theres no plot arc or whatever is kind of the point, the daily life of these awkward outcasts is the plot of the movie. It very much unstructured in this way intentionally, definitely not for everyone though.
i refuse to watch the dark night until it's the original imax aspect ratio i'm not watching it in ugly 16:9
Unrelated but the 1974 Godzilla v Mechagodzilla is a fucking blast and I recommend it to watch or react to
I think a 5/10 for The Dark Knight is a bit low, but I can see where you're coming from.
@@toonghee3818 His Batman is easily one of the worst film iterations of Batman
@@M_k-zi3tn Which one?
@@toonghee3818 Justice things, Bat V Superdude. He's just not given good material to work with.
