In germany the fun fact is similar! On Dec 6th it is "Saint Nicolas" day (Which means Santa Claus...Nicolaus - you get the drift) but what happens is for the well behaved children that leave their shoes out by their bedrooms at night the next morning there would be chocolates and maybe a small toy of some sort. - Ewelina, love all your videos! Smashing job!

I enjoy listening to you! My parents were polish, they lived in central wisconsin, a very polish community. We always had the christmas wafers before supper on christmas eve, I know just a little polish, but listening to you I recognize so many of the words. We also called santa claus as you did. Thank you for all the videos, they are great! They bring back many memories, and I have been teaching myself by listening to you.

I'm happily going to be in Poland for Wigilia this year. I'll be able to do things I haven't done since my grandparents were alive!

Your family sounds very kind , I love hearing about polish traditions. I try to do polish style things even though I'm English . I have a polish partner but unfortunately his mother has never been welcoming and always excluded me for some reason . So I've never experienced any polish traditions. So everything I know I've looked up online or from library books :) Now I have your channel too. There's always a way round things :) . Much love Ewelina and thank you xx

This is amazing. This brought me back to a project I did in the 6th grade on Polish Christmas tradition. My nana would always tell us stories about the special connection with family and friends during the holidays as well as all of the other customs you mentioned ... So proud of my Polish heritage🇵🇱♥️ much love Ewelina xo

I grew up a dairy farm in a large Polish family. Another tradition for us was to be sure all the animals were well cared for because at Midnight they talked to each other and would complain if we did not care well for them!

Nice video. Do you really use "Santa Claus" in Poland? I´m Czech and we say "Ježíšek" (according to religious tradition).

For the life of me I will never understand why there is such a huge Polish diaspora. Why would anyone want to leave such a beautiful country with such rich traditions and culture?? I'm born and bred American yet want nothing more than to live and Poland to soak all of that up. (I live in an ex-Polish city, L'viv. It would have fared better under the Poles)

My Polish parents were forcibly removed from their homes at gunpoint and taken to gulags. Living under the conditions that they were subjected to, speaking for my grandmother, she always thought the KGB would find her and take her back or kill her. It is no surprise to me that some Poles never went back to Poland. They never lost their traditions or love for their country, but surviving meant making tough decisions.
