I’ve always loved your little history tidbits while back in England (part of the reason I first subscribed. You don’t see too many history loving bikers on TH-cam) . But the history buff in me has been absolutely enjoying seeing the excitement of exploration and the stories of every little location as you get to them. You guys are hitting your stride, and it shows exponentially. So enjoyable.

Thanks for the vlog Freddie and Monika we loved it. Cracking music, great video. Me and Debbie went up mount Teide in 1979 whilst on our honeymoon and visited again 40 years later, we took photos in front of some of the rock formations you passed, the “finger of god” and the steps that you passed on the right were used in the 1956 film The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston as Moses.
The black Obsidian rocks you walked over is made into Jewellery by the locals.

    Hello again Freddie and Monica
I am very happy that you continue to enjoy so much on my island.
Yes, you really liked the route up Teide, from the southern part (which is the driest on the island), when you make the descent or ascent from the northern part (by La Esperanza TF-21 or by La Orotava TF- 24) you will not stop hallucinating. There you will see clearly how you go from a vegetation of medium height to that of high mountains. I recommend that you stop at several viewpoints on the TF-21, but be sure to visit the Chipeque viewpoint (it is the best view of Teide and the best northern part you will ever see; because if you are lucky you will be able to see the authentic sea of clouds ). By the way, know that the Canary Island pine is the only pine in the world that supports fire. Although you see its exterior burned, inside it continues to live, after one or two years, it will regain its leaves and little by little it will be like again.
The famous stone on which everyone takes photos on foot of Mount Teide is not "El finger de Dios" (which was in Gran Canaria), it is "El Roque Cinchado".
Indeed, when Christopher Columbus passed through Tenerife back to La Gomera in 1492, Tenerife had not yet been conquered by the Kingdom of Castile, they did it between 1494 and 1496 (Tenerife was the last island to be conquered by the Spanish).
I think your GPS made an alternative route to the usual one (where the roads are actually much better).
Ah I forgot to tell you that the two parts of the movie "Clash of the Titans" parts of them were recorded here in Tenerife (in Teide, Teno, Abades ...)
    Greetings. 😉

Was on Tenerife in March and took a 400cc Suzuki scooter from Las Americas to Los Gigantes and then up to El Teide…..what a fantastic day out….can’t wait to do it again….I must admit to being a bit worried about hoofing along the motorway back to Las Americas in a T shirt and shorts at a magnificent 100 kph….think I could have run faster but being on a bike at that speed with no protection made me feel like Rocker Man….lol

get yourself to La palma , to see the current active volcano and perhaps drive up the road to the highest point , Roque de los Muchachos , you can see Teide from there too.

The chances of it happening on Tenerife are remote. Also, Tenerife is one of the larger islands and so any eruption is unlikely to affect the whole island. I think you can rest easy. So enjoy yourselves while you have this wonderful opportunity.

The dust vortices might explain the sand. If the local cliff faces regularly stir up vortices there, they will grind the lava into sand over time.

Enjoyed that, thanks. You are right about lava being molten rock -- it is in fact molten rock that has reached the earth's surface and flowed out. Molten rock that is underground is called magma.

Wiki says El Teide is 3.5km tall from sea level but 7.5km tall from the sea bed. The biggest issue for residents isn't eruptions but landslips down to the sea.

    • @viquiben4919
      @viquiben4919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry to disagree. We have had many eruptions in the islands, having now one in La Palma and a submarine one a couple of years ago in El Hierro, but no landslides. The soil is very rocky and solid beneath the dirt.

Hi Freddie, we are heading to Tenerife on Sunday 16th for two weeks, staying in Puerto De La Cruz and looking to rent a bike for some of that period to do some exploring. I have a friend, Peter Watters, married to a Tenerife lady, they have an apartment just north of PDLC, they flew in last week for 23 days, he is a fellow biker and will renting a bike with us to do some exploring. I have sent him a link to your channel. He is over there quite often and he says it would be great to link up with you some time. Hopefully, we can arrange to meet while we are there.
