Going for a run on some incredible roads, the big question is whether it will live up to expectations?

bw2krazyman nope! The M156 and M159 (used in the SLS) have both a displacement of 6,208. It’s called a 6,3 because of the history of AMG. The Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 was used by AMG in a couple of races back in the sixties and seventies.
I dont understand why people disappoint on that? When original gullwing door mercedes 300 SL came in 50s there was also roadster version of it with normal doors.
Most of the complainers are too young ever to have heard of the Roadster version of the 300SL. This fact hasn't really hurt the collector value, which keeps up and exceeds sometimes that of a coupe. (Although I would rather have a coupe for the looks and racing history.) I own 50% of a 2012 SLS AMG, and I am thinking of buying the roadster version, just because I love top down driving.

I had one on a 61 plate for 3 yrs and it had amazing presence and looked cool....but it had the most unpredictable handling from the rear end as the weight transfer moved across the rear axle on cornering - a feeling that it was over-loading up the dampers and would randomly twitch awfully (bit like a 2003 era Tuscan TVR ) - also the gearbox that worked so well in the first generation California Ferrari was terrible and ponderous in manual far worse than its 80-100ms spec should do. Also felt huge on Bedfordshire b roads. Sold it because of those factors.
Tim, general question for you....do you find it a bit difficult driving right hand wheel cars and then driving left hand steering as you travel the globe? I know you're a good driver and make the switch all the time, but are there those instances you make a turn and inadvertently you pull into the right hand lane...and whoops....need to be in left lane. lol.....(Mike in Ohio)
Shmee has an apartment in Germany and owns both right and left hand drive cars! although, I drive a right hand drive car and driven a left once, very weird for me but for somebody like Tim there should be no difference.
I've never been to Europe so I've never had an opportunity to drive a right-hand drive car nor the opportunity to drive on the left side of the road. In my mind if the day arrives when I do visit Europe I'd be scared to death that I'd screw it up and cause an accident. It probably would be best if I simply take a taxi. lol
I am an American and drove in South Africa on vacation, I agree, it is wierd, very wierd at first, But you get used to it pretty quick. I have the 2013 SL63 AMG, the sound is similar and love it. I am hopoing to get an SLS at some point. I love the looks. PLus I think the value will hold much better than an SL 63 ( even with the Pereformance Pack)

Probably a safety feature to stop the bonnet opening fully during driving (obscuring vision and maybe smashing the windscreen) in case somebody pulled the lever for a joke or by accident.
