  • Small howto, to get the SnottyBoss.com.au device to run better. Out of the box (3V) the device would suck VERY minimal. After doing this mod and setting to 9V, the SnottyBoss suction is PERFECT for our baby and collects ALL of the mucus, provided it is not too dry and hard. If it is too dry i simply use baby nostril spray and wait for the mucus to moisten and hit the SnottyBoss again.

Hi Mark. Thanks for showing that demo. The medical recommendation for maximum suction is 65 KpA which is what Snotty Boss currently is. We just have to be careful that we are not creating suction that is too strong and could damage the delicate nasal cavity of babies and toddlers. Whilst your invention is very creative, any modifications to the unit made by customers would void the warranty, so we would just want people to be aware of that. With high quality batteries, we have found most customers achieve the 65 Kpa suction which is sufficient to easily remove nasal mucus. All the best, Laura Klein, Founder.

Thats fine, but recommendation and regulation are two different things. Is there an actual code that you have to specifically adhere to?
So long as your customers are happy thats the main thing. Unfortunately, due to operation at such a low stock voltage (3V), any small drop in voltage drastically decreases the effectiveness as there is very little headroom, which im sure you found out during your testing phases. This now means that batteries will have to be replaced at regular intervals.
Suggestion: Possible option would be to make the unit have a rechargeable battery and operatable from a wall charger.
Also even just offering a variable speed option could be a possible option.
You may even, for investigative purposes, replicate the mod and see the difference, i think you would be suprised.
Whilst i understand manufacturing costs and production sequences, design initiatives etc, this is merely suggestions on my part.
Anyways something to think about if your looking to develop and improve the device in the future.
I also appreciate pointing out warranty void and i am well aware as soon as i modify anything due to being a computer technician for 3 decades.
Appreciate your reply and your time.

@@zemerdon The unit is registered as a medical device by TGA and worldwide by FDA so yes, there is a strict medical code to which we must adhere. As it's a medical device for babies, we must be very careful. 65 Kpa is the maximum allowed for a home unit - medical grade suction in ER is stronger, and administered by medical practitioner. All the best, Laura
