I love how you explain everything. Most makeup gurus on YT just say " Do THIS and then do THIS" but they never explain WHY. You do explain why and that is why I love watching your vids.
This is the first explanation of why a make-up brush is shaped the way it is and how it works that I actually understood! Thank you for your amazing videos... :) Keep up the great work!
Aly, your contour series is absolutely the best I have ever seen! Extremely detailed with fabulous examples on your own face. Great job Aly! I don't think anyone has synthesized all the various videos, good and bad previous to you. Superb that you show various brushes. Wish you would add various contour products and colors you recommend for various complexions.
You know what telling the science behind makeup is the best telling method. Bcz everybody has unique face with complex shapes and complex combinations. By understanding what is done to create what effect. We can apply as much as we need.
THANK YOU!!! At last some common sense advice! Enough with the "suck in your cheeks" nonsense, etc. that everybody follows in a heartbeat without taking a moment to see whether it works or not. I love how you examine and ponder all the variables in context, analysing what realistically works and what doesn't, and I love how methodically you explain everything in an organised and coherent way, step by step. Being in possession of an extremely organised mind, it is almost "peaceful" to watch you talk. I came across you by chance and after watching a couple of your videos I rushed to hit the "subscribe" button (and I am very choosy subscribing!) I feel so happy to have found you. Well done, girl, congratulations!!
I love, love, love ALL your videos! I've learned more from you than all other TH-camrs put together. You are seriously smart and you really know how to teach tutorials. I just want you to know that I appreciate you and your hard work that you put into your channel. You are beautiful and cute and just precious, too, and I love watching your videos again and again! Merry Christmas, Aly, from a true fan, from Texas. ✨❤️✨
Wanna thank you cause most youtubers dont explain the background information that is needed in order to fully understand everything. you teach in depth techniques which is rare. thank you for that
Watching your videos has given me a much better understanding of light and shadow, and how to manipulate them to achieve different looks. So very helpful! I recently had my first paid makeup gig. Thanks so much!
OMG - I just watched your singing videos - wow what an absolutely amazing, exquisite voice! So Janis Joplin! ... but better! Gave me chills! Best makeup skills, even better music career in the wings!
Hi Aly! I have an oval face with high cheekbones. I like the look of an editorial or modelesque cheekbone. I should also mention that I am very fair skinned, about a tad bit lighter than nc15. My favorite brushes are fluffy eye blenders to achieve a precise contour, and sometimes a tapered duo fiber brush. To apply I go from the point where my hair meets the top of my ear and diagonally down, stopping where my eye starts. I like to look straight ahead in the mirror doing this so I get the most natural look. I dust a good amount of product on the back of my wrist before I do this and gradually build it up because it's easier to correct that way. My favorite contours are more ashy, like the color to the left of the color you used in your kvd palette. I like a purple tone like Chanel notorious or Sephora contour blush in tranquil. It looks the most natural on my skin tone! Wow that was detailed but contouring is no joke for me I love it and I love the way it looks! Thanks, Breanna
I watched this series a few years ago and thought it was genius then. But it just popped into my head again and I came back and WENT HAM measuring my face. I learned a lot. Best videos
Aly I am really enjoying your videos. You bring a whole new concept to make up. I love your anatomical approach. I use the NARS Ito brush to outline the zygomatous arch, and then blend in. I may use Goss # 13 brush to apply, but I like the stark contrast the Ito brush gives: it just makes it easier. Then I blend like crazy! I also outline the jawline and nose to correct the shape of the nose and to sharpen the jawline. And blend, blend, blend! I use either MAC Sculpt or Kevyn Aucoin products. Thank you!
I subscribed a few weeks ago because you seem to have a strong passion for makeup and it really shows, not only do you so makeup, but you study it and learn every detail. It's fun watching people do what they're passionate about and it's interesting to learn what you have to offer, I'm glad I found your channel :)
To me, Mary Greenwell is MUA royalty and she starts her contour at the top of the ear and stops it by the outside of the eye, she doesn't extend it very far. I think this creates natural looking cheekbones without making the face look too gaunt (which can be very aging).
I like to use NYX blush in Taupe to contour/frame my face. I also like to use a red tone blush to give me a bit of a, what I call, "sunburned" look instead of using a bronzer. Thanks so much for the video. I'm really enjoying this series.
+Monica Ranger I love your picture here! Thank you for the explanation! I love that sunburned effect too! Though you're darker than me. I just use darker blush.. Cool!!
I use the techinique that you said celeberity makeup artists use. And thank you so much for your videos honestly I searched and searched for someone that could explain makeup the way you do. The things I wanted to learn, and the way you explain things. The depth at which you understand faces, and lighting and makeup and how that all goes together. I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself correctly but I hope I'm making some sense. Thank you tons again.
I have a square face, strong jaw, not prominent cheekbones. I like to use one brush, similar to the round almost dome shaped brush you have, to blend out a soft amount of contour in the general area of my cheek bones and temples, then i like to go in with a little more concentrated amount of that product and from the top of my ear do small strokes to get a more defined but still subtle contour , stopping about where my pupil is
Because I don't have prominent cheek bones I use the following method for contouring my face: I do it in the line of the number 3, like I am drawing a number 3 on both sides of my face (from the forehead just under the cheek bone and then the line ends on the jawline). Hope that helps. :) You are so talented Aly, I love your channel!
I personally start where my bone is and then go down to the sides of my mouth it gives the best effect for me especially on pictures! I'm excited for your new video! x
I use the Kat Von D dual ended blush/bronzer brush. It has the medium sized fluffy oval shape brush which I use for my contour and the angled side That I use for blush. I really like a soft look so after I go over it all with a generic fluffy brush.
I'm loving this series! I'm learning so much, thank you for sharing your videos. I can't wait for the next one, I hope you include how to contour a crooked nose in one of the upcoming lessons.
This series is awesome! They are the most informative pieces I've seen. The color explanations were great. I love these. I hope there are more to come! Thank you!
thanks for this series! I like to use a darker foundation to draw under the cheekbones n blend out, even when I'm not wearing foundation, to give some structure. I have super round face n soft features, no angle at all
Because I'm starting with maheup, I don't have too many brushes, so I take the base brush and draw a line in the correct part of my face with the counturing powder
I use several lighting options on my makeup mirror such as home, office, natural, and day/night lighting. This helps with determining if the contour I'm using works in various lighting settings I might be in. This has helped to eliminate the surprise clown makeup look for me. Meaning I've applied makeup and ventured into public and looked at myself in the mirror in the car or restaurant (fluorescent lighting) and thought "Oh boy--this looked good at home and this look is not public friendly." The type of lighting in which I am in plays a huge role in deciding how to contour so that I look more natural rather than harsh lines that add years to the face. For example, attending an outdoor wedding where natural light for me requires different contour than what I would use to contour on say a photo shoot . I try to consider what lighting (indoor, outdoor, fluorescent, etc. will be and use that as a guide to how dark or light the contour should be while maintaining a natural look.
+Aly Art I adore and look forward to your videos immensely. You are stunning! Thank you so much for really explaining things in an artistic yet understandable way.
I love your videos and how you really Teach techniques and reasons for them. I have never seen anyone as good as you on TH-cam or anywhere. You have a real talent and should be working with celebrities.
HI Aly! I have a round face, quite fair. I actually use the same contour powder from INGLOT as you! the apples of my cheeks are huge when I smile so I like to do very minimal contouring just starting at the hairline and bring it down just a little with an angled brush. I love your videos! I always learn so much!
great series! Im no so much into make up but i love how you explain it all and all the research you did to understand all faces! Great job, thank you! x
To contour my cheeks I use one of 2 methods. 1. I use a small dome shaped brush to place and blend in small circles like you show. Or 2. I take a flat, horizontal brush to place product and blend upward and then a larger fluffy brush for bronzer to blend and buff the products.
you have a wonderful way to explain, such knowledge, humour and empathy! if any of my teachers in school had been like that I probably wouldn't have dropped out. love this series as well - it's just hard to find contouring powder for pale skin. apparently it's better to use taupe instead of brown but I haven't found anything yet.
Here are some brushes for you to check out blank canvas 1. F16 great for blending, fluffy but tapered at the top for precision 2. F30 very stiff and thin but great for nose or highlighting on its side or if u need to pack colour on and lastly,3.F14 my favourite great for circular motions and contouring or touch ups in a hurry can also be used for setting powders. Sorry for essay and thank u for your inspiring videos luv steff
Hi Aly, Im loving your contour series. I have a very small, undefined face, so I need definition but not much space to go crazy with the contour. Typically I do a little staying close to the ear and barely anything down by the cheek. xoxo Nicole
I am so in love with your approach to make-up, you're my favourite make up artist to watch because your videos are always so informative and well-thought!!
As for me. I have a very round face, and I am fair. I use Elf small tapered brush for contouring. And blend it out with Elf complexion brush. I like contouring but I don't like for it to be harsh.
It made me happy to watch a new video of your series!! As you have said contouring is very different for everybody. I have a heart shape face and I used to contour it like most of the youtubers (which is like Kim Kardashian stylishl) but I noticed it made my nose to appear larger (I have a prominent nose) so what I do is just add blush on the apples of my cheeks and I put a tiny bit of light brown eye shadow to the bottom part of the nose, that's all I do :D
you're awesome ! Love you, I don't ever comment on videos but you're just to good I couldn't resist... I've been watching your videos since day 1 ... You have true talent !
You are so informative and brilliant, thank you for explaining this technique properly... I am struggling for many months now with contouring. I CANNOT WAIT for your next video for correcting face shapes.. PLEASE PLEASE include something for correcting narrow, long faces! There are NO tutorials for my face shape, and when I contour, I look even more like skeletor... and not healthy and youthful. I really really hope you do a technique to show how longer thin faces can be made to look more round, I would be so appreciative for this
Great video! I'm becoming a fan! I like using two different contour shades, I use a lighter one for subtle shades and a darker one where I want some more definition. And I have two different brushes to contour as well, I use a small one for the nose contour and a medium sized one for the rest of the face
Thank you aly! these videos are so helpful. I love the way you take a step back to really think about a technique and how it will look. You really do have an artist's eye :) xxx
I have prominent cheekbones and an oval face. If I put the contouring product too close to my mouth, it makes my face look too narrow. So I place two fingers beside my nose, and don't go beyond that. The shadow ends just under the center of my cheekbones.
The majority of make up artist on youtube never explain what type of brushes to use when doing certain techniques i love how you show which brush to use to contour i have been wanting to learn to countour and it was not possible cause every time i tried the brush i was using was not the correct one
Your videos are exponentially better than any others I have watched! I almost don't want to tell people about them because they're so good 🤫😊 Thank you for the time and effort you have put into making them!
I use one of those flat top brushes that came with the boxed blushes. I don't really need to find my cheekbones, they're naturally noticeable.. so I just make the line then blend it, sometimes I use a color that can also be used as a blush, so this way I take the contour color up as blush..love ur videos, amazingly talented beautiful young woman, TFS and keep up good work xoxo
my favorite type of contouring is with a fake tanning mousse. i leave it on for a few hours and then wash it off and in my opinion it gives a natural looking contour that lasts day without looking like i'm wearing makeup. The key is to get a good quality fake tan mousse and blend it well and only apply a little. i also like to contour with two shades of foundation, a light and a dark foundation. for special occasion i contour with a cream and then go over with a powder to set.
I'm loving this series. I actually use a hybrid technique. I find my cheekbone to know where to start contouring (mine is in the middleof the ear) and then follow the line in the direction of the corners of my mouth. I have an oval face with round cheeks
My face is heart shaped and I recently started contouring. In fact, I started contouring after I watched your videos, because I feel like no one has ever explained the techinques as good as you have. Anyways, I contour my cheekbones, temples, bridge of the nose, along the hair line and under my jaw line. And it is as you say, "hard to stop" contouring your face cus you never feel it's enough. :)
I have prominent cheekbones, therefore a natural shadow and I have to be careful not to let the contour get too close to nose or mouth or my face looks too thin. So I usually stop just where the iris of my eye starts.
I already have very prominent cheek bones (especially when I smile) and a very slim face, so when I am contouring my face I have to make sure the lines are very well blended and not to dark. If I am contouring for a daytime look, I will use a medium brown or even a light brown (depending on what I am contouring). If I am contouring my nose, I'll use a light brown. I feel that it looks more natural that way considering my natural shadows are very light. When I am doing my cheeks and forehead I will use the medium brown color just because I don't want to make myself look overdrawn or cartoonish. Though if I am going to a night club setting I would use a dark brown for my cheeks and forehead and the medium brown for my nose. Mainly so my makeup looks more dramatic and visible in the fluorescent lighting.
I have high cheek bones and I have a very visible shadow. I also have pigmentation in that area (which I HATE). So I cover the pigmentation and I add a little color there. I have yellow undertones and am still looking for a favorite color for my skin tone. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your videos!! I just found you yesterday. :)
i Just love the way you expresa, so respetfull so full of... idk, ¿intelligence? even love for your work. i really respect you. please keep doing what you do i really apreciate it, and i Just use a dark powder for the sides of my nose and my tip and a white concealer for the bridge to lift it up, of course a apply everything i learn from you, please do a full contour tutorial for all the face, i Just learned a lot for the cheek bones
This is really helpful, but I have a thin, flat, rectangular bristled brush, I'm not too sure I'm using it right, could you do a short add on video explaining how to use this type of brush please xx
My face is long and slim, and a bit heart-shaped. I try to contour around my chin and jaw to shorten my face a bit- I skip the cheekbone sculpting part- my face is very narrow as it is.. And I love the Inglot shading powder! I'm super pale, and Inglot's is the only shade that doesn't look completly fake on me.
Because of you I’ve gotten absolutely nothing done today and it’s gotten dark out LOL oh my gosh I need to go do something but you addicting as hell. Thank you.
Recently I have been using the Burberry technique with creams. just put a few lines that get smaller from under the cheekbone to the nose blend then I put my foundation over it for a more subtle look. I have a round face BTW. There is a couple of videos on the Burberry TH-cam channel.
I love your videos. Could you give some tips for disguising the unwanted shadows/wrinkles please. Now that I've seen your 5 videos on contouring I might be brave enough to try it.
+Deb-aVeryHappyGrandma What I do to my mom is just apply a thin layer of a sheer foundation like loreal true match llight color, something with light reflecting particles... Very gentle tap it on..
When I saw that video, I notice that you look pretty good even without making your cheekbones prominent . Well, really THE BEAUTY IS SUCH A Wonder THING... You are gorgeous even without contouring your face . Thank you for your great videos, I am your fan from today :)
by the way you should do a video explaining what each brush is for that should help a lot of people specially me i never know what brushes to buy or which one to use for my contour or blush or whatever
Hey:) you describe things so precisely and seriously, I can literally see the hardwork behind it... I discovered contouring few months ago and I'm into it! I always use powder and a thin but sadly not very full brush. (I bought it recently and it's not that good quality as I hoped...:() so keep on going I love your videos!!! :)
I'm not crazy about either of those brushes in general for contouring ? But if anything ? I'd go with the angle brush for sure, fits smaller faces as well as larger faces :) but personally I like a straight brush !! Wide but flat, if that makes sense? Light touch then blend it out !
I love your videos! You explain everything so well and your voice is so soft and easy to listen, if that makes any sense at all. I'm very happy i found your channel

You're so intelligent and understanding makeup and the technique instead of instructing us blindly

Can u please make a video on how to avoid unwanted shadows? Especially for under eye area
+Sabina Мёд I would love this, too! I am wondering how to treat my face now that I have a few more lines.
I would also love a tutorial on overnight blueness under the eyes! Tay!
Sorry: that should say covering blueness under the eyes! TY!

you have a wonderful way to explain, such knowledge, humour and empathy! if any of my teachers in school had been like that I probably wouldn't have dropped out. love this series as well - it's just hard to find contouring powder for pale skin. apparently it's better to use taupe instead of brown but I haven't found anything yet.
+Alexandra G Thank you so much ))) x x x
+Alexandra G Thank you so much ))) x x x Try inglot 505. Or Kat Von D kit - it has one light shade which is cool for us ))
Here are some brushes for you to check out blank canvas 1. F16 great for blending, fluffy but tapered at the top for precision
+Steff Gouldie Thank you so much! happy 2016!
Hi Aly, Im loving your contour series. I have a very small, undefined face, so I need definition but not much space to go crazy with the contour. Typically I do a little staying close to the ear and barely anything down by the cheek. xoxo Nicole
+coleydance hey Nicole! Thank you very much!! Cool!!
I am so in love with your approach to make-up, you're my favourite make up artist to watch because your videos are always so informative and well-thought!!
+Ad H Thank you very much ))) x x Happy 2016!
As for me. I have a very round face, and I am fair. I use Elf small tapered brush for contouring. And blend it out with Elf complexion brush. I like contouring but I don't like for it to be harsh.
+Felicia Graham Right!! Me too! ))) Thank you very much ))) x x Happy 2016!
Aly is by far the makeup artist who has taught me the most
Thank you very much ))
It made me happy to watch a new video of your series!!
+Cecious Loca Thank you very much - very cool!))) x x Happy 2016!
Great information Aly. I hope you can give some advice on how to conceal under eye bags. Love your videos!
+Mylee Leonard Thank you so much )) x x x
you're awesome ! Love you, I don't ever comment on videos but you're just to good I couldn't resist... I've been watching your videos since day 1 ... You have true talent !
+Sarah Echeverria Thank you so much!! )))
I really really hope you do a technique to show how longer thin faces can be made to look more round, I would be so appreciative for this
+Erica Szymanski Yes,please! I would love that too!
+Erica Szymanski Thank you very much ))) x x Happy 2016!
+caty2ful Ok very soon ))
Great video! I'm becoming a fan! I like using two different contour shades, I use a lighter one for subtle shades and a darker one where I want some more definition. And I have two different brushes to contour as well, I use a small one for the nose contour and a medium sized one for the rest of the face
+Mar de la Peña cool!! Thank you very much x x x
I love how informative your videos are you really try to have your subscribes understand techniques!!!!!
+Marsha Manoatl Thank you very much ))) x x Happy 2016!
+Angela Lopez that's cool! Thank you x x x love
The majority of make up artist on youtube never explain what type of brushes to use when doing certain techniques i love how you show which brush to use to contour i have been wanting to learn to countour and it was not possible cause every time i tried the brush i was using was not the correct one
Thank you very much ))
Hi Aly!!! lots of great information... I draw my contour line from top of ear towards mouth where my eyebrows end.
+Tj kalsi thank you !! Cool 😊👍
Your videos are exponentially better than any others I have watched! I almost don't want to tell people about them because they're so good 🤫😊 Thank you for the time and effort you have put into making them!
Excellent series. Learning so much!
+Angelina Zaldana Thank you ))
You are so good at explaining this stuff!!! Love it! ❣
+MyLifeAs AnnaBanana Thank you so much!! )))
Aly Art No problem! you are awesome! :) xoxo
+bxgal347 Thank you so much! )))) And thank you for the explanation)) x x x Merry Christmas ))
Wonderful tutorial!! Will definitely be rewatching and taking notes.
my favorite type of contouring is with a fake tanning mousse. i leave it on for a few hours and then wash it off and in my opinion it gives a natural looking contour that lasts day without looking like i'm wearing makeup. The key is to get a good quality fake tan mousse and blend it well and only apply a little. i also like to contour with two shades of foundation, a light and a dark foundation. for special occasion i contour with a cream and then go over with a powder to set.
i love your voice, its very calming
+Barbs1991 ahahaha yes! Wow that's cool! x x x Happy 2016
You're adorable and I've been a cosmetologist for years, but I still learn from you! Great work!
+Danelle Malchus Thank you so much )) x x x
your videos are the best! You changed my world, thank you so much!!! xx
+OhBabySmily Thank you so much )) x x x
I have prominent cheekbones, therefore a natural shadow and I have to be careful not to let the contour get too close to nose or mouth or my face looks too thin. So I usually stop just where the iris of my eye starts.
+Patricia H. Thank you so much!! )))I see! Cool!
+Vivian Dominguez wow thank you so much for the explanation!!! Love x x x
thank you so much for your very straight foward and informative videos! best tutorial on contouring i have found
i Just love the way you expresa, so respetfull so full of... idk, ¿intelligence? even love for your work. i really respect you. please keep doing what you do i really apreciate it, and i Just use a dark powder for the sides of my nose and my tip and a white concealer for the bridge to lift it up, of course a apply everything i learn from you, please do a full contour tutorial for all the face, i Just learned a lot for the cheek bones
+Michelle Reveles Thank you so much )) x x x Yes sure - it's coming soon! ))
This is really helpful, but I have a thin, flat, rectangular bristled brush, I'm not too sure I'm using it right, could you do a short add on video explaining how to use this type of brush please xx
+ZombieGirl Ok I will try! Im trying to imagine how it looks))
+AllYourFlowers Very cool! Thank you!! Do you use 505 inglot? Same as me? Happy new year )))
This video was so helpful. You truly are an artist. xx
+Donna Mantellato Thank you very much ))) x x Happy 2016!
Pojalusta Aly do one of your amazing and educational videos for nose contouring and nose shapes!xxxxx
+Narm B Thank you so much )) x x x Ok I will!!
+cathug10 Oh cool! I will check it!! x x Happy 2016!
I literally dropped everything when I saw your video in the subscription box !! ♥ thank you for your time ♥
+nenomawad Awad Thank you very much )))
I love your videos.
+tu musica Thank you so much ))) x x x You really made me feel good! ))) Love x x x x
by the way you should do a video explaining what each brush is for that should help a lot of people specially me i never know what brushes to buy or which one to use for my contour or blush or whatever
+Miana Belo Thank you very much ))) x x Happy 2016!
+Candelaria Bosch Thank you so much ))) x x x
you are amazing. thank you for making this
