Funny thing that Yukari haters harp on Yukari "not respecting the sacrifice of the MC" in the Answer...when in reality no one knew the cause of death for the MC nor knew that he sacrificed himself to save everyone...and only when Yukari knew about in near the end she truly understood the wrongs of her actions.
That's what trend following gets you.

I'll always have a soft spot for Yukari, trauma and depression will make u think irrationally, and I sympathize with her. It's realistic that they don't see things the same way. And Yukari isn't a push over, she doesn't give in to peer pressure - if everyone ganged up on Fuuka for example she would've probably just have let them silence her. Yukari needed the compassion that Mitsuru showed her, she needed someone who genuinly cared for her to help her come to the realization. It's believable

A youtuber said not so long ago this, and I totally agree with it: "Yukari is heavily frustrating, but she's the one character that you can relate to because most of us acted like her whenever we were her age. She'll grow up, but like... She is relatable, even if it's unlikable."

I really don't understand why people expected her to behave rationally. The person who finally helped her find some form of closure revolving her father's death and her fractured relationship with her mother just died. Things were literally finally starting to look up for her, and then the MC dies. And then she is given the impression that she has a chance to undo that. If someone helped you through the grieving process of losing a parent, and then they died shortly after helping you, that would probably destroy you.

@@ma.2089 what about what she could’ve done had Yukari won that pathetic of excuse of a ‘tournament’? The whole world would’ve ended just for her greediness to just see him once again and most definitely stopped him before MC having the chance to save the world. Mitsuru is even worse for enabling her and go along with that nasty behavior towards the whole situation from Yukari. Pea brained Akihiko and the brat didn’t help either. Fuuka and Aigis were indecisive and hesitant. Junpei was the only levelheaded character out of all of them. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much do you like Yukari and if you sympathized with her during her grief. I don’t like her, so I didn’t. I love the part where you said you think internet opinion culture has made it so that games can’t just be bad, I think that applies to the reverse as well, with games not just being great or good, they have to be hyped up as the best game in the genre and called one of the best games ever made and shutting aside all constructive criticisms, I think that conversations around video game criticism has become extremely toxic.

I have seen many people not understand what her story was about or misunderstand what The Answer actually is.
The Answer is a story about grief and Yukari is literally one of the most important characters of that narrative.
Because she is the one who is actually hurting the most in that narrative.
Yukari is in pain, serious, profound pain and it is not unjustified.
Somebody she loved died and she doesn't know what to do with that.
The story of The Answer is about dealing with grief and all the characters have different perspectives on it. Because clearly all of them cared about the protagonist, but everybody is in a different head space during the story.
And Yukari is the one in the most humane space. She is deeply and badly hurting that she lost a loved one. Aegis is also like that, but she ended disconecting of her feelings, while Yukari can barely control hers.
The fights in The Answer with the party members are more a way to grieve in group than a battle to the death or anything. Everybody is grieving and fighting is literally all they can do with the grief. That is why "Heartful cry" is such a good song for the fights.
And Yukari is the central character of the grief narrative, because she is the one grieving the most. She is being irrational and lost, yeah. Somebody she loved DIED. It honestly the most humane response. She is being irrational, but for good reasons.
And that is the saving grace of that story. Because the grief narrative is the literal basis of The Answer and the reason the story is actually happening. And Yukari's arc is the literal climax of that story, at the end of the fight with Aegis.
It is actually the reason The Answer actually works as a story.

I think ppl also harp on Yukari being aggressive for no reason. Junpei and Akihiko do the same thing, and they’re given much much more leeway. In the answer itself, Yukari was very unsure about her feelings when they had the discussion about the keys. It was Akihiko who started insulting her and made her respond angrily. Akihiko and Yukari are on different sides, with the same level of aggression and stubbornness.
Ppl just don’t like ppl who become angry in grief, especially women.

honestly a lot of it boils down to the demographic. a part of the playerbase can’t fathom mature storytelling and/or accurate portrayals of grief and just women in general (let’s be real most mega weebs have incel tendencies). they just want their “waifus” to not be “ruined” by story beats that are thematically in line with what the game is trying to say

I personally found The Answer to be great in terms of the story and characterization. I heard a lot of shit about The Answer, but in spite of that I ended up enjoying it. My biggest issue with The Answer is all gameplay related. There was no good reason to get rid of the compendium for example, sure you can counteract the lack of a compendium, but that does not mean it was a good idea to get rid of it. The dungeon crawling is another example, although this game does dungeon crawling just fine, that's all it is: just fine/10. The social sim aspect was needed in-between the dungeon crawling for me to fall in love this game. For The Answer its general structure is tell a bit of the story, then you dungeon crawl, then it tells a bit more of the story, then you dungeon crawl again, and it's just that over and over until you get to the final boss; it gets old and I only held out because I was enjoying the story. With that said Persona 3 FES' unmodded battle system does slap, and I'm glad that you give it the respect that it deserves.

I'm pretty sure what the characters in the flashback scene about Mitsuru's past are talking about by her 'natural potential' is that while her power was indeed forced upon her and she was forced to learn how to control it, this is how she managed to learn how to control it the natural way, as if she was born with her power when she found her will to fight, which is to protect her father.

And speaking of Yukari, I think that a lot of people forget we aren't neither holy saints nor robots that always base our thoughts and actions by logic, we are *humans* , and as such, not only we are emotional beings by nature, but also the embodiment of imperfection.
One of the reasons Yukari is one of my favorite characters ever is because she's the example of a flawed character done right. The most humane character in the series without any room of doubt.

She isn't though,I think this spot goes to Katsuya from p2 ep.
The biggest reason for me is because even though he tried to act with decency most of the time he at points hated his father and younger brother thinking they were responsible for his dreams not being able to become reality,to the point when he was taunted by his shadow he pointed a gun at his brother for a moment.
Also despite being a very honest cop he at many points turned his head and played blind letting some out of the law things to take place because he let his emotions talk louder than reason when he felt anger.
His shadow also said he felt jealous of his brother because he loved Maya.
And despite of all that he admited he felt that way.
There's nothing more humane to me than someone who despite trying to be good can't really be like that 100%of the time.

Yeah, I think what bothered people a lot was the 1-2 combination of Yukari not being waifubait and her English VA making her enraged to the point of being OOC. It's a damn shame because she's a complete character that stands out as a shining example of good characterization in a series that is otherwise filled with clichés on the writing front. Easily my favourite character alongside Aigis.

Complex and unusual doesn't equal good. The game never calls out Yukari for being a hypocrite when she attacks other people for what she also does. She literally mocks junpei about being scared while they're waiting for their inevitable death from nyx and for MOURNING HIS GIRLFRIEND after her supposed character development . Her sl is her not empathizing at all with her mom for years and failing to understand that she isn't the only one that feels bad. She slaps mitsuru when she's mourning and tells her to get her shit together while she never did. And the answer has her disregarding what other people feel once more risking the entire fucking world. Her circumstances don't justify her actions and the game should say that outloud instead of letting her go on so many things.
Yukari is pretty much the beta Chloe from life is strange, an unempathic ass that only thinks about herself and fails to see what everyone else thinks unless it's regarding herself (her attempts at being the stereotypical popular girl to get attention), and that ends up being on one side of a world/city ending tradeoff. I gladly let Chloe die because she was never acknowledged as bad and kept blaming max for everything, getting angry even if she just talked to someone else on the phone for a second, and started romancing her to manipulate her better. All that connects her to max and "justifies" her being a bitch is her backstory. But that's not how it works. You can be pitied but not excused of your faults due to circumstances. Yukari is perfect for makoto tho, the guy that gives the worst advice to everyone and fucks every single girl to then sacrifice himself and avoid responsibility in some school days type shit.
Yukari is just a shitty asuka.

@UChxrnrsCRRUWfv3r09cgjoA she is literally an asuka ripoff are you fucking stupid to say she isn't a cliché? She is the redhead tsundere with mommy issues that has an odd relationship with the headphones wearing emo boy (and the boy meets kaworu with scarf). P3 is half eva ripoff, 25% shitty barely explained writing and 25% good.
Aigis your favorite character? The rei clone with the personality of a loaf of bread that has nothing but "I like mc and become human" to her? There's so many better robots in anime, she's robotic in comparison to OTHER ROBOTS!

I feel like the thing about The Answer Yukari is, that game more or less expects you to take as Protagonist having her SL maxed out. So it would make sense for Yukari to have such strong feelings towards him, it also makes sense that when you have strong and passionate emotions, you sometimes don't want to listen to reason, you just want to follow those emotions, flawed as they may be.
Yukari probably feels like if they do go back, there might be a way to save him. If we go with her SL being maxed, it makes sense for her to be like that, if any of us could go back in time and get to fix something that took our dear one, a lot of would probably be willing to take the risk, even if it was to see them just one more time.
I actually believe what they did with Yukari was exactly what her character needed. For her to finally have her closure and not cling to regret of losing protag.

AS someone who experienced both P3's main campaign and The Answer for the first time pretty recently (via youtube, I don't have the means to play it myself yet), I honestly cannot imagine Persona 3 *without* The Answer. It felt like a necessary epilogue or final chapter, and it highlights once more how everyone dealñs and copes with death and grieving differently, especially for someone close to them. This isn't the same case as with Shinjiro; everyone from the main party had a close relationship with the protagonist, with Shinjiro, most only got to know him semi-properly for like a month at best?? while the ones truly affected by his death were Akihiko, Mitsuru (more or less) and even Ken. With the protagonist, they all got to know him for over a year, they shared the same living space, they hung out together, they did the SEES thing... It's just not the same.
And how everyone reacted felt in character based on what we've seen of them in The Journey. Yukari in particular makes the most sense to me. I wonder if those who dogpile on her remember that she had to recontextualize her father's death 3 TIMES!!! That's not healthy in the slightest, having to re-frame what you knew before and start a new process of grieving. And with the Protag's death being still fresh by the time of The Answer, no wonder she was first coping hard and not thinking about it, distancing herself from the otehrs bcs looking at them would remind her of the past, but then reacted the way she did to having the choice of going back to the past. She was just not grieving properly and probably needed a reminder that she's not alone, that everyone else understand what she's feeling and that they're all in this together. To have Mitsuru be the one to reach out to her, eb enough for Yukari to break down crying, is also both perfect and beautiful.
I heard a lot of negative things about The Answer and while I can't give a full analysis of the mode, as I cannot play it yet, storywise it got me to cry, something the main campaign didn't manage to do.

Personally from a character development side of things P3 and The Answer are masterpieces when you are able to piece things together like how in the base game yukari was carrying emotional trauma but when minato came along he was able to get her to open up her feelings, get her back on good terms with her mom and got her to fall in love with him. But when he died instead of facing the pain head on she tries to put a mask to hide that emotional trauma and only wanted to see him again by going back in time to before they fought nyx which would endanger the world. After she realised that Aigis was the only one to use the Key all that emotional trauma consumed her. It's kind of an inverse of Aigis where with Aigis she wanted to got back to being a machine as minato was the only thing that drove her to become more human than machine but yukari put on a mask and decided it was best to blame everyone. It kinda shows that we as humans aren't perfect. It's not perfect but to me it just feels right. In a series full of clichés story arcs like this stand out and it isn't necessarily a bad thing

When looking at The Answer now, I think the single biggest problem isn't necessarily the characterization, but rather the stakes. The reason everyone hates The Answer's Yukari is due to her irrationality in the face of such potentially drastic consequences is the primary reason why. Not only that, but the fact is, they didn't know what caused his death. Ken's theory is that he sacrificed himself (which is what happened), but even then, they still should've tried finding out why he died before they went back to discuss. If you're wondering how they would've known, they could either ask Metis or have Aigis pull it out of her ass like she does in the final game. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, have a nice day.

What I got from Persona 3 in its entirety is that it's a story about dealing with loss. All the Persona users have/were going to lose someone close to them in the game, then awakened to their ultimate persona after they "proved" that they could deal with that very loss. Mitsuru lost her dad and awakened Artemisia, Akihiko lost Shinji and awakened Caesar, Yukari got closure on her dad and awakened Isis, Fuuka's friend Natsuki moved out and she awakened Juno.
The point of the Answer is to test their ability to cope with another loss, this time the loss of someone extremely close to _all_ of them. When this occurred, _all_ our team members had to cope with that grief _again,_ and every one of them had to rethink how they cope with grief and loss when the person who died was one of the people who helped them the first time around.

She's an awesome party member to have around and though she plays the clingy sister role sometimes, it's when she and Aigis have that conversation after Koro and Junpei's battle that really cemented her as an endearing character and she helped Aigis with her answer which was more valuable than anything else she had done for her before. I love her.

With the seeds planted by P4 Arena and P4 Margaret Boss Fight alone (Though I personally think the Answer ties into this and planted some seeds as well), it does seem ATLUS may bring Makoto back one day. And honestly, I am personally fine with it, as it would be great for Elizabeth's story (And honestly, part of me does want Makoto to see Aigis and the others again). I am really glad that you brought up the point that at the end of the day, nothing will change what Persona 3 itself is. The messages presented in the game will forever be part of it's experience and it will live on forever. One thing a lot of people forget is the fact that the spinoffs/crossovers are just expansions of the main games. While canon, they are not meant to be the main experience. I look at it like the mainline Persona games are the original 6 Star Wars films, while everything else is the Expanded Universe (This example is going off of the Legends continuity). Who knows, maybe I am crazy. Regardless, I am glad you defended the good parts of the Answer. It definitely is not perfect, but the amount of good stuff in it that is ignored can be frustrating. You have definitely earned a sub. Thank you

My only issue was that not much really happened until like, the end. Some of the bosses had stuff that caught me off guard too, sometimes they just felt impossible, but I guess that just means it felt good to finally beat them. Still really liked the story overall though. It's a good experience if you're willing to tough out some of the crazier boss stuff.

This is easily the best video I've ever seen on The Answer/Episode Aegis. I agree so much with the takes in this video and think the Answer is highly underrated and far from ruins the base game. I like to enjoy it as it's own entity and think it's beautiful as it's own chapter of the saga. Music is really good too, It's neat to see a voiced protagonist for a change (even if it's not my preference), and I adore Aegis, so more of her is always awesome. Don't let people influence how you feel about these games, there's so much hate for every game in this series depending on where you look. In my opinion they are all beautiful games and all some of my favorites. Come to your own conclusions, don't let people stop you from enjoying something you might otherwise love!

I liked The Answer. Not the fact that's its separate and it starts from scratch and hard but the story itself. Aigis being the center and the team getting some closure was nice for me. I do not think it ruined it at all. I do not think it undermines anything. I finished P3 Portable not long ago and then moved on to The Answer. Gonna replay the female protag then try FES to compare. I've played 4G and 5R and something about 3 just resonates with me. I want an HD remaster that combines stuff from Portable and FES. I do prefer the direct commands in 3p. The Answer is, in my opinion, the most impactful Persona re-release addition up 'till now. Accepting that your own life will end -the Journey's main message, is easier than accepting that other's lives will also end, sometimes without any apparent reasoning -The Answer's main message. I think that it's a perfect continuation, story-wise, to that of the Journey.

I like your video for backing up your points, and giving good reasons. That being said, I strongly disagree the Answer is good. The game starts you off with a emo edgy teenager who doesn't care about living, but over time, learns that there's more to life than just being born and then dying. You have experiences and challenges along the way and have memories than define who you are and what you leave behind. When the protagonist realizes this, and after being a good friend to those around him, he realizes he has to sacrifice himself to save everyone. The point of the main game was that life is fragile, but worth protecting for the memories and people that are affected by you. Having the character face literal death, only to just be a door lock doesn't support the game that life is fragile, and at the end of the day everyone has a happy ending. That's not how life is, and tragic and bad stuff can happen along with happy and memorable moments. Aigis's whole character was that even a machine can learn to appreciate life, because life is beautiful, and not everyone can have it. I understand you like the Answer, and I'm not telling you to change it. For me personally, as someone who had an older brother die from brain cancer a couple of years back who barely got to see his daughter born, having the ending be "He's not dead but guarding everyone." is a half ass ending on what death is. Death was a major part of the story, and I think the protagonist to die only to reveal he was a door lock doesn't fit the theme of death in the game. That being said, thank you for going in depth with your video and pointing out your reasons

Eah, The Answer truly is Misunderstood. If people yearn for death, it means that life is evil, not death. If the world is evil, we should not grieve its ending. There is no reason to assume that the protagonist wanted to die. There was no option to continue living for him. He chose to protect people that he cared about from immediate danger. But in the Answer those people did have a choice. They were strong enough to beat Erebus every time he raised his ugly heads. But they chose not to because it was more convenient for them. They condemned their savior for eternal torture. Don’t you think that the final death for him would be merciful? But we cannot have mercy in our evil world, can we.

Yeah, I can never understand the hatred towards this. They need proper context to fully understand what exactly happens in The Answer and to get into it. And yet, they never bother to learn and get the memo. This is pretty much the case of Teen Titans Go style fanboy rage where they're angry because 'the characters aren't acting like they did in the orignal' or that 'it ruins the orignal'. What, do they actually expect the characters to act the same as they are in the orignal storyline, even in an epilogue chapter taking place after the orignal story ended when the main character of that had died and they themselves weren't aware of it until it happened?! I just don't understand this either and it really does seem ridiculous. I also see this sorta fanboy rage with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and it's the same scenario here. In fact, you can actually see plot similarities between Advent Children and The Answer and both had gathered the same mixed reactions, most of it being that they hate it. Hopefully, this video will serve as a way for them to look back on it and wonder if it really was as bad as they thought it was and maybe give it another look. But if they still don't like it, that's fine, I can see why. With that out, I really hope they bring this back for the P3 remake, most likely as a DLC add-on and hopefully, they have a version of The Answer for the female protagonist introduced into Persona 3 Portable and use that to finally give out answers to the questions about the FeMC timeline that are yet to be answered (No pun intended).

I never once hated the answer but them removing the compendium really was a turn off its not that i hate grinding its just too grindy for my taste so instead i just watched from youtube on how plays out sure it wasnt satisfying since you werent playing it but still enough for me really wish they will do a remake on persona 3 and combine both FES and Portable

*That* video has single-handedly ruined The Answer for so many people but I'm glad someone finally said what I've been saying all along

I think my biggest problem with the anser is it making too explicit all of the implied things in the main game. The message and the ending were beautiful, and didn't need further elaboration. It makes it all feel a bit cheap imo.

I had seen a thumbnail saying how the answer ruined the main stories game, but instead of watching the video I played the game. I thought about how people tell you whats worth your time, but I thought i wont know unless i take the journey myself. After i finished the game I had watched that video and mostly disagreed with it. Then i found yours which i thought a similar view to how i felt about it. Thanks for the video.

The answer had a lot of potential and I liked the story stuff but it was not fun to play. No social link stuff or compendium makes the game feel bare bones which I did not like. I also don’t care much for aigis either

Everyone but Yukari lost someone dear, she is experiencing lost the most because its her first time

Bro...? Did you miss the entire first section of the game?
After you awaken to your Persona, Yukari literally tells you that the reason why she joined SEES is to find out about the truth behind her father's death and how it's been haunting for the last 10 years.
If there's a member in SEES that's never lost anyone it would be Fuuka as she's the only member that still has both her parents.
I'm sorry about the tone of my comment, I'm just a bit confused with your statement.

i've always loved persona 3 answer though. But there's also the point that i never really had a good internet connection at the time so the internet's opinion not get to me.
