What a fantastic video! Being from the East Coast, I only got to ride these Talgo trains once from Seattle to Vancouver as part of the North American Rail pass I was using when they had such a pass. i liked the Talgo trains so much. As part of that trip, I rode the ferry to Victoria and took the VIA train from Victoria to Courtney which was an incredible trip also. Then, took the high speed "jet" boat back to Seattle, and the Empire Builder back to Chicago and onward to the East Coast. What great memories!
Main reason for which I like Talgo sets is because of the short carriages, making it easy to move around, but more particularly because of how low they are: in normal trains you need to climb up, but on these they match the level of the platform, so you can just slide in. Much more accessible.
Wonderful video. On 3/1/2021 I witnessed one of these coming through our town of San Luis Obispo CA. I just happened to see it pull out of the station headed south. When I inquired about it I was told it was headed for Los Angeles to be scrapped. Such a tragedy. Beautiful set of cars. Thanks again for the view!!
9:12 Was on board that train, amazing experience! Its unfortunate that these trains are retired, hopefully once bidding is over they'll find a new life here in the states.
Amtrak and WSDoT each bought 2 Talgo 6 sets for Cascade Corridor service in the late 90s. FRA issued waivers for their operation as they fell short of crashworthiness requirements. WSDoT later bought the set originally meant for Las Vegas service. The Las Vegas set was the one that wrecked in Dec 2017. Oregon DoT bought 2 of the Talgo 8 sets built in Wisconsin. Latest is WSDoT's 2 sets are listed for sale along with 3 spare cars. As is where is bids close Aug 3 inspection by appointment.
Never got to see the Series 6 Talgos, but I got to see a Series 8 when I was in Oregon back in February. It was being pushed into the Eugene station (I was staying in Springfield for the weekend). Got some nice close-up pics as well as some video of it being pushed into the station.
Visually, these trains take a lot of getting used to! But from a technical point of view, they are very innovative, though probably more intended for their European home market and Spain, then a real export success in the U.S. Nice footage, as always!
Just noticed that sometimes they don't have a trailing cab unit at all, whereas at other times they have the expected 1 locomotive and 1 cab car (and just noticed that not all of these have a baggage door on them), and then sometimes they have a running locomotive on each end (also saw this before). And then the Talgo train sets seem to have their own generator car even though all of Amtrak's revenue locomotives can supply head-end power.
Well, it was fun while they lasted. But I can see why they decided to retire them. Apparently, after the tragic derailment in December 2017 on the Point Defiance Bypass, the NTSB found a major design flaw in the Series 6 Talgo sets. Speaking of the derailment, the new charger that was meant to replace the destroyed 1402 has now been delivered. Also, with the Series 6 sets gone, what’s gonna happen to the NPCUs.
Talgo _should_ have a factory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Amtrak should have more of those trains, but ex-Governor Walker squelched it the moment he took office. "Too much money down the road to maintain" he cried. But he was _perfectly fine_ with the literal billion-dollar boondoggle of FoxConn that has yet to produce a goddamn thing, not even a fraction of the promised jobs! Walker's out, but succeeding Governors (and the state taxpayers) are going to have to deal with the fallout from this.
Why does the series 6 sets have the thing for the F59PHI’s and the series 8’s don’t!? It makes me so frustrated!!!! I keep looking for it to have it!!!!
I wonder what will happen to the NPCU's after the arrival of the 2 new talgo sets since the new sets have built in cab cars and the NPCU's will become redundant
They will be used on the two sets of Horizon cars. One will be a backup to the Talgos and the other will be used on the Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. train.
That'd be cool, but unfortunately they're not built for high platforms. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the states went to Talgo for their own set, though. There's already rumors of the NEC's Amfleet coaches being replaced by Siemens ones like those used on the Brightline.
Love the video,do you think that the talgo cab cars are better than the npcu also can you do a train talk on the siemens charger once its really instated in to service
The Tailfans and their contrast to the F59PHIs and NPCUs made the Series 6 sets amazing. It was one thing to lose the F59PHIs, but it's another to lose the Series 6 sets. Now there's no good Talgo left... Even 7 years later, I can't stand how hideously disgusting the Series 8 sets are...
Apparently, the cab was designed with input from Amtrak employees, with the bulge at the front and increased height for safety reasons, as VIA Rail employees preferred to jump out of the LRCs than stay in the cab, as they had a better chance of survival.

Que bueno ver talgos españoles en usa, un orgullo que nuestros trenes estén por todo el mundo!! Buen canal amigo 👍👍
I miss the talgo 6 train i wish they would bring it back
I’m never not gonna miss these train sets, they’re so iconic. Tragic to see them go the way they did.
Same here.
Main reason for which I like Talgo sets is because of the short carriages, making it easy to move around, but more particularly because of how low they are: in normal trains you need to climb up, but on these they match the level of the platform, so you can just slide in. Much more accessible.

Awesome video. I still loves Amtrak Cascades. ❤️🌸
Thanks! I like Cascades too.
Made in Spain the ultimate series of Talgo in Spain is Talgo VII used with electric locomotive 252 and Diesel 334, 319 locomotives series in Spain
9:12 Was on board that train, amazing experience! Its unfortunate that these trains are retired, hopefully once bidding is over they'll find a new life here in the states.
I'm hoping for that too, but we will see what happens.
Adding music to the background was a nice touch!
I'm gonna miss seeing the Series 6 trains coming into Vancouver, WA.
Glad I got photos of them crossing the Columbia River Bridge.
Awesome video!
Incredible Video:) It's sad to see the F59's, NPCU's and Series 6 go away, they brought great memories to us all.
Beautiful K5LA's on 90340, 90251, P42 17, and the Series 8 cab cars. Awesome video as always, Mike!
Nice video. Thanks for doing this, Mike. A lot of great memories in all these locations.
Great video! The snow shots were amazing
Nice. I've never heard of this type of train before but, thanks to you, I now know what they are..🚂🇺🇸💓

Sad they're going away, and hopefully we can see a set reunion with an F59 or F40 in a museum
I have been anticipating this since I saw it on your Instagram and your TH-cam post!

I Love Amtrak Cascades Talgo Passenger Cars
love the talgos !!!!!!!!!!!!!
That NEC bronze bell on the NPCU sounds just as awesome as the wayside horns!
Wayside horns suck!
Visually, these trains take a lot of getting used to! But from a technical point of view, they are very innovative, though probably more intended for their European home market and Spain, then a real export success in the U.S. Nice footage, as always!
Ay I'm a Amtrak Cascade big fan I love amtrak this video thank you for making it I love Amtrak Cascade your the best

Awesome video, Mike. Those Talgo sets sure have served the railroad well.
Yes they have! Thanks!
Nice video
Love it! I especially love the snowy atmosphere. I eventually want to film in the snow in an area near Truckee. To see their Amtrak trains.
Thank you very much! Snow really sets the mood for the Cascades trains.
nice video
I wish these trains were in the UK
Very nice catches, as always.
Thank you!
precioso muy bonito!🥰
Great video on my home corridor, Ill miss the old sets but we gotta keep moving forward, hopefully this awful pandemic ends soon.
I still remember the first time I saw a Cascades train when I was little. It was so strange after being so used to MSTS' Amtrak rolling stock.
Great work sir...
Rest In Peace in Railroad Heaven, You Beloved Train. You will Never Be Forgotten. ( U _ U )
Cool! I will mostly miss the Cascade NPCU, but at least they are still running in other places! :D
Just what I need to start my road trip! Great work. Can you do a Train talk about the F7
Thank you! And that is a good idea. Possibly in combination with the other F and E unit set too.
6
CaliforniaRailfan2101 road trip but watching a train?
@@CityWhisperer no it was a trip along the California coast. It was not intended for railfanning
CaliforniaRailfan2101 oh alright
Wish they would add those cosmetic fins on the talgo 8 sets.
That would be excellent.
Por aquí ILLESCAS eapaña pasa un talgo
For those worried about the NPCU they will stay for a long time pribaly running in california
Beautiful compilation! 🤩👍
Thanks!
I love amtrak. Good video
Thanks! Amtrak is awesome.

It does look like a cat

Loved the music added!
Yep... the npcu locomotives did work hard, eh? Great video Mike 😎
Awesome video mike!
Thank you!
I had no idea that the Cascades trains were made by Talgo.
...& I call myself a Talgo fan.
Great video, I love Amtrak
Thank you, I do too!
The clip at 20:32 is incredible.
Very unique. 😊
Congrats you received a thumbs up
Nice Video
🏵️🏵️🇮🇳🏵️🏵️
Thank you!
The Cascade paint schemes matched f40ph cab units pretty well, by the way great video.
They did indeed. Thank you!
beautiful.
Wow super train
Ooh my god amazing.
Sucks to see these things go it’s so sad but hey at least thet there getting better and safer sets
Yeah, I like the Series 6 sets too. Some of the best looking trains on the rails in the modern passenger era.
Nice Video!
Thanks, Rhett!
Great video
Thank you!
Im love trains and im subscripter
Talgo Amtrak is fantastic just like Renfe, Mike!
Yes they are!
nice catch
Thanks!

They were neat sets. The NPCUs will be used with Horizon cars on some of the trains.
Nice video ;)
Thanks!

Mantap bossss
It a Sad of 6 Talgo Cars is a last day but NPCU is still Active they using of Horizon Cars So Goodbye old 6 Talgo Cars We Miss You
Here in Argentina we had some Talgo trains, but now they are out of service. What a shame!
Love tago
At 3:30 you captured my favorite Train
Awesome!
What bells/horns do the Talgo 8s have?
The Horn is the K5LA horn some F40PH engines randomly idk have a freight horn I forgot what type
The Talgo 8s have K5HAs and Transtronic e bells.
@CoasterFan2105 Interesting choice for Amtrak. I don't think much Talgo 8 footage exists compared to the Pendulars.
if it weren't for this video, I would have never known ANY of this.
Why does the series 6 sets have the thing for the F59PHI’s and the series 8’s don’t!? It makes me so frustrated!!!! I keep looking for it to have it!!!!
We don't have Talgo sets in Britain but this was an enjoyable watch. I'm interested in Western American trains, particularly the Espee. Nice video!
Lol atleast we got avanti west costq
What Talgo set was destroyed in the DuPont, Wa. accident in Dec 2018?
Mt. Adams.
@Erik Gustafson The former Las Vegas Talgo set.
I wonder what will happen to the NPCU's after the arrival of the 2 new talgo sets since the new sets have built in cab cars and the
NPCU's will become redundant
They will be used on the two sets of Horizon cars. One will be a backup to the Talgos and the other will be used on the Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. train.
Did the veterans unit 90208 or 90221(in vets livery) ever run on the cascades
No, the NPCUs have always had an pool, and 90208 was in the Surfliner pool since 2003, and 90221 has only had the Vets livery for a few years.
A Very Random Person thanks that’s what I thought as I only ever saw videos of them on surfliner and hiwatha service
The only specially painted NPCUs that ran on Cascades at one point were the 406 in Phase 3 and the 90250 in the Seahawks wrap.
You also forgot to mention that the f59phi was replaced by the Siemens chargers
We need TALGO trains on the nec
That would be cool. The demonstration sets were tested on the NEC at one point I think.
CoasterFan2105 ok
That'd be cool, but unfortunately they're not built for high platforms. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the states went to Talgo for their own set, though. There's already rumors of the NEC's Amfleet coaches being replaced by Siemens ones like those used on the Brightline.
the thumbnail of the video wasa funny looking train
Love the video,do you think that the talgo cab cars are better than the npcu also can you do a train talk on the siemens charger once its really instated in to service
Thank you! I like them both and I will be doing a Charger Train Talk, but probably not for another year or two.
Why did Series 6s sometimes run without a NPCU?
Probably some of the NPCUs were out of service.
RIP the cabbages they got 20 years of good service on their record
I know the new sets have built in cabs but where did you hear the NPCUs being retired?
Yeah. They're not gone yet
yup now that I look back on this comment I’ve learned a lot more about trains and yeah they aren’t being retired
What’s next for the rail cars for Amtrak cascades are they getting something new
I hear a watch beeping in the background at 1:10
Good job! Looks like the NPCU's are next :/
RIP F59PHI’s and Talgo NPCU’s
Which sets were retired, and when.
Sad these all are going to be retired soon by Siemens Ventura coaches
I got something for ya coasterfan 2105. Why get those talgo sets to be retired if they could be used on excursions?
Can you do a train talk about the ICE-1 and X2000 of Amtrak please
Can you do something on the MP36 engine? Its used on VRE, Metra, and Caltrain’s baby bullet
4:27 is that a sounder I see?
14:33 are those deer in the field?
I think so
The Tailfans and their contrast to the F59PHIs and NPCUs made the Series 6 sets amazing. It was one thing to lose the F59PHIs, but it's another to lose the Series 6 sets. Now there's no good Talgo left... Even 7 years later, I can't stand how hideously disgusting the Series 8 sets are...

I like the series 8 sets, but I also really like the Series 6. They were fantastic looking trains and the ride quality was excellent.
