I became a Muslim in 1986 and recited my prayers in Arabic. I learned some Arabic and I knew what the words translated to, but there is something that happens when you pray in your own language, and that is the heart becomes involved more. When you learn a foreign language you either start to think in that language or you don't. I used to think in French, for example, which I learned in school at a young age. I never made this transition in Arabic. No matter how much I speak it, I'm still translating it in my head. So, I started to pray in English to be able to "talk" to Allah.

Very true. I was born into an English speaking family. Whilst I am trying to learn arabic if I recite the prayer in arabic it means barely anything to me. It means a lot more if I recite it in English. I feel it more and feel the intention and meaning more. Allah chose for me to not be raised speaking Arabic. He is not going to punish me for his own choice. That would be ridiculous.

I'm not making an excuse. Don't assume something bad like that when you have no evidence. It's hurtful. Myself and others are doing our best. We all have other things we have to do, and we all have different abilities to learn languages. We can only do our best. Most people, myself included, are doing what they can.

Thank you Shaikh, I am a recent convert that has been a believing, practitioner of Islam for several years now, and I myself am proficient in reciting the Arabic phrases of salawat; BUT MY WIFE ISN'T (a more recent convert to Islam). Though, while I am in the process of teaching/coaching her through the Salah procedure, we both acknowledge it will be difficult for her to learn/memorize these 'HOLY', Arabic phrases. Though, by her being an English-speaking American for over six decades, is having 'NO TROUBLE' in memorizing the procedural SIGNIFICANCE of this ritual in her native tongue. SHE BELIEVES AND UNDERSTANDS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RECITATION/SUPPLICATION 'TRANSLATED'. Thank you for confirming that ALLAH (SWT) is the all-knowing of intent and intellect (and beyond). Salaam Alaikum.

The Qur'an mentions several times that it was given in Arabic so that it would be understood by the locals who wouldn't have mastery over the Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, etc of prior books. It follows then that we should read and pray in the language we actually understand.

If a believer makes the effort to learn to recite in Arabic Allah will help you. Allah accepts any prayer in any language that is sincere. But learning to recite in Arabic is not that hard. If someone wants to emigrate to America or England for more opportunities they won't hesitate to try their best to learn English. So to enhance my spiritual life I am learning Arabic. Alhamdulillah.

Shabir Ally provides thoughtful discourse as usual. When I was first starting out I only felt able to use Allahu Akbar in Arabic and the rest in English. Within ~9 days I was able to memorize the prayers and not need cue cards for the prayer in English and I gradually began to include more Arabic into the prayer. I'm not a scholar, but my view is that it was better for me to pray in English and gradually add Arabic than to not pray at all. I don't presume to know the will and desire of Allah (SWT), but I felt that it would be better to pray this way and for Allah (SWT) to know that I was making an effort than to not pray at all.

Lately I have been memorizing in English first because it is my native language, and then learn the Arabic version, otherwise it doesn't really mean anything to me. By saying the prayer in Arabic it sort of taps into the lineage more and makes it feel more authentic, at least for me. I do believe language is sacred and there is something to be said about keeping true to the original style of the recitation. Alhamdulilah.

This was very helpful to me. I try saying things in Arabic sometimes by following along with the English transliteration of the Arabic words, but then I find after words that through the struggle of trying to pronounce and say these words, I didn't really retain or know what I was saying, and it didn't have much meaning to me. But now that I know it's okay to start off in English until I learn Arabic, then I will start reciting more things in English

I Do get concerned that I might get cauught up in the idea that God looks on Arabic speakers with some special bias. As a new Believer I sometimes already feel marginalized from other Muslims who belong to different Ethic groups.

Dont be angry by him but rather look at at his POV and see other videos of other shiekhs explain why you should read your prayer in arabic rather than being content with this one video which does not give any evidence from the quran or the Sunnah of the prophet (saw) of what is permissable. I can imagine that individuals of Middle Eastern heritage might find this humorous, but for an American as myself this question is very important especially should I find an Islamic community to participate in. We English speakers must make do with a variety of transliteration, unlike the consistent version of the Quran and prayers that Arabic speakers enjoy. Further, specialized prayers such as Ayatul Kursi are often difficult to find even as a consistent translation from the Quran. If people know of a particularly good resource for this situation, would you please share it. Thanks in advance.

So first of all, I'm grateful to Allah for you becoming a Muslim. Welcome to Islam. For me, I personally found this video very helpful when I learned how to pray. th-cam.com/video/DLWJtXtmnbM/w-d-xo.html It has the way to pray in Arabic, along with the English translation. It's about 18 minutes in length, so a little long, but I found it beneficial to have it playing in the background on my iPad while I prayed until I learned how to successfully do it all by myself. Allah willing, I hope it can help you as much as it helped me. Thank you for the question!

Ok so I’ve been interested in Islam for a few years , I made friends with some muslims whilst in prison and found it very beautiful and I like the structure. But I went to a mosque and was ignored , I literally had anti terrorism come to my house a month later because I have friends in outlaw motorcycle clubs and that made them think I was going to shoot up the mosque . Since then I have moved to the other side of the country for work and made 3 phone calls to the only mosque in my city and left messages asking if/when I could come learn more . I as yet have gotten not one reply ! So my question is how accepting and open can a religion be if they refuse to even speak to me. I’m not a psycho , I’m not a big scary type looking person . All I am doing is looking for guidance , how can I do this if I am ignored???

A Muslim should prayer 5 times a day is must. You cannot miss those 5 prayers. Apart from those you can pray whenever you want. There is no good timing or bad timing in Islam. There is no special rituals in the prayers you're doing willingly. Maximum rekhat offered by nabi (sa) in any prayer is 4. So you can pray 2 rekhat or 4rekhat as per your wish. Most welcome for the upcoming doubts my brother

I don’t speak Arabic and I pray. Nevertheless I‘ve reached the point, where my concentration is fading away during prayer simply because I don’t really know what I‘m saying. I know what the Ayat are roughly saying, but not word for word. It feels less personal to me.

But prayer in other language is refuted by fuqaha.Imam abu Hanifa also returned from this 'Ray' which we can find in "Manaar" by Allama Abul barakat annasafi. One of the great Usooleen from Ahl Sunnah wal Jamaa'h.
You can have look on the Q."Is the Quran name of words and meaninngs together?"
    Ma'as Salam🙂

Surely Quran is the combination of 'nazm(lafz) and ma'na' . So if you want to recite quran in your prayers you must recite it in arabic. This not an issue of even dispute. That's the ‘mutawatir’ practice of ummah for 1400 years.

To the muslim brothers and sisters saying that arabic is the language of islam please remember that arabic predates islam. Its not a new language that came with the messenger of God but it is a language of arabs and before reciting praise to the one and only true God it was used in prayers to false idols.

Praying in Arabic is highly recommended, but it is not compulsory that it has to be Arabic.
4v43 O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of ceremonial impurity
The verse clearly stated that one should understand what he says during a formal prayer; it does not say it must be in Arabic. What is in one's heart is very transparent to God, and any language will be transparent to Him.
The Arabic language is very rich in terms of compacting a lot of (positive) meanings, and this is why reciting chapter 1 of the Quran during formal prayer is highly recommended, to avoid leaving behind the blessings. Reciting a translation during formal prayer is ok if one finds it awkward, usually if it is not his mother tongue, but we all know translation is only a rendition of the underlying meanings and thus, reciting in Arabic of Chapter 1 is traditionally recommended. Chapter 1 has only seven verses anyway. It is also possible recite the in Arabic, while "translating it" in your mind (in your own mother tongue) as you go along.

Isn't that verse talking about being in a state of intoxication?

    • @Furqan-tm4gk
      @Furqan-tm4gk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@user-dw8ht9ge5l The verse does imply intoxication, but then it says "until you can understand what ye say". Meaning which, when praying, it is more important to understand what one is saying in the mind. And that is usually in the mother tongue of the person. Otherwise if it is compulsory to use Arabic, the verse would have THEN said, pray in Arabic. This is where traditional Muslims did not really read between the lines
To God, whatever language used is irrelevant, as He can understand everything He created.

Prayer and reciting the quran are two very different things. PRAYER is asking for something from Allah or INDEED just praising Allah IN Any LANGUAGE you may speak. As for reciting the quran, We must learn to recite it in its orginal form which it was revealed in. We must all learn it. Quran meaning Recital. Amd Allah intended it for it to be recited in thr classic Arabic it came down in. AM African, Not Arabic speaker. PRAISE BE TO ALLAH, I learned how to recite it

Praying English isn't correct. One must pray in Arabic correctly. This is something that is taught by trustworthy teachers. He is totally wrong in this issue! He definitely falls short. I'm a English speaking person and I sat in classes and was taught the issues of prayer. If someone prays in any language outside of Arabic they prayer will be invalid! Abu hanifa never told anyone to pray in Persian, that was issue of shahada I'm sure... Al fatihah is the best surah in al Qur'an and in prayer must be in Arabic if one doesn't know it like a new Muslim the replace it with Arabic words that are equivalent like Allahu Akbar for the time it takes to say al fatihah until they learn to say correctly. May Allah protect us from this false judgment. No one wants to show up on the day of judgment to find out that there prayers are bankrupt

Quran was revealed in classic Arabic. QURAN must be recited in how it was revealed. You can merely attempt to translate the meanings of THE quran but Quran cannot be recited any other way besides how Allah Alone brought it down from HimSelf.

That's why Allah SWT gave translators so it could be translated to any language. So read Qur'an in language you know( Qur'an must be translated by actual 100% translators, my friend gave me a site) and you pray in language you know( again 100% translation).

If Allah SWT is our creator then he created Various languages and therefore will understand them languages when are spoken to him. Surely that is his plan that people would come to know him by any means possible. That statement you made is as bad as some Christian's saying you have to "Speak in Tongues" to pray to their God and if your not anointed by this way your not saved...
