Dragon Age & Mass Effect are respectfully mature games intended for a mature audience, my content will feature such themes, so please be aware of that when watching. Thanks!
Jackdaw: There are many rumblings of inner conflicts within the Warden's command.
Me: Nonono it's OK. That's the good kind of rumble.
I'm guessing that when Solas seperated Thedas and The Fade, he thought he was just locking away the Elven gods, but he also locked away the source of the blight.
I don't think he knows that, so where he sees destroying the boundary and reuniting the two as some kind of panacea it will actually cause the Blight source to get free.
I think it's a plot bait and switch. DA4 won't really be about just stopping or helping Solas, rather confronting that evil that originated in the darkness.
I think it's right to assume that the Blight itself is DA's overarching antagonist.
Amazing theorizing here!
@@JackdawYT Thanks!
I am absolutely CERTAIN they are gonna do a bait and switch (like they did in inquisition), but what... I dunniq.
I am pretty sure that Jackdaw is right about OGs being parts of Mythal and I think they act as seals to Titans. Remember that it was Mythal that defeated them. Killing them all prob would release the blighted titan too and that would be bad.
Mythal/Flemeth can care only about revenge as far as we know it. We like to think of her as a positive character but she was shattered and never was crystal clear to begin with. She may crave vengeance so much that she wants elven gods dead no matter the cost.
@@Arekanae I think mythal can still care about the people and seems to, but vengeance is the primary drive.
*Gives a fantastic and damn well reasonable analysis about the origins of the blight, how Arlathan can potentially be the Golden City, how the blight could have come onto the waking world via the magisters: "...obviously, complete speculation on my part--"
Jackdaw, I'm banking on your theories! They're too great to NOT have at least a kernel of truth. Keep up with the amazing work! As always, you keep the excitement for the next DA installation lit
I completely agree with the opinion that the Old Gods are fragments of Mythal. I think the Elven gods just split her up, similar to what we saw in the temple of Dirthamen and the "Asunder" quest in Origins.
It reminds me a lot of the Indo-European myths, where a hero (usually the god of thunder) kills a multi-headed serpent representing the primordial chaos (chaoskampf). And in some myths, the hero also divides the serpent into parts, as was the case with Tiamat, or plunges it underground, as was the case with Typhon. The Ouroboros (which we often see in the last game) is also born of these myths.
Great video btw!
How much you want to bet those powerful orbs that the Elven pantheon wielded came from the heart or brain or core of a Titan. That's why they're so powerful and hard to come by.
Shieet.... that actually makes sense. Mythal managed to kill one, so it's possible.
There’s actually elven murals with similar depictions in it with elves surrounding a titan with an orb-like structure in the chest of a titan
@@haileydetterich8260 Yep, exactly. :) Oooh, I can't wait for the next game! The glimpses from the teaser suggest we'll actually meet a titan.
So summing up what we learned about old gods and blight:
When all archdemons are slain, something bad will happen..hinted by solas.
The blight cannot be outsmarted and killing the old gods before they're corrupted is wrong...also hinted by solas.
The old gods are definietly from a time before the veil...as evident with speaking with kieran.
There's an old god prison under the western approach
The other tevinter magisters are somewhere in the deep roads...codex entry found during well shit quest in valammar
I always had the impression that when the last og is killed, it will drive the darkspawn mad, just like the mother. Perhaps the architect even knew that, and was trying to prevent the worst scenario, but that's just a guess.
@@gaguiar Not all darkspawn go mad when the calling is severed from them. Perhaps the darkspawn will gain sapience when the og are slain. We also know that the black city has seven gates and the mural from the dreadwolfrises trailer shows the red lyrium idol locked in something surrounded by tiny spheres. Two of them are still bright while the rest are grayed out. There have been 5 blights and two ogs are remaining. Perhaps they are keys that'll open the black city and unleash the true blight within.
Well, that's concerning the "process" which the architect uses to make them sapient (or not). But it doesn't mean that the same will happen if the calling just stopped by itself.
Nonetheless, I didn't say it was the only possible consequence. Surely there will be much to be seen on DA4. I just hope o can punch (and kiss) my dear stupid egg soon
Maybe not mad - though some will absolutely go mad - but now without that purpose. Free to decide what they want to do. Which is very unlikely to be staying in the deep roads. They will be capable of more advanced tactics. And they seem to hate everything that isn't tainted - the architect thought the only road to peace was to blight everyone as well as to free the darkspawn from the calling.
Effectively with no more old gods we are at very least looking at an unending blight. The hunting for the old god is a respite... not the cause.
Wanna know where one of the Magisters are? Weishaupt. The Watchman of the Night has been body jumping/preserving their life and using the title, literally, the First Warden. Bam.
I honestly expect one or the other of them has gotten to Weishaupt too, but my money was on Serani.
Informative and entertaining as always. Keep up the good work. :)
Thank you!!
And here I thought "ppfff, what else can I learn about blights ?".... Well a lot of things actually ! Your theory on the origin of the Blights is gold ! Well done !
Thank you so much!!
@@JackdawYT To be honest. I'm not even sure the writters have a precise idea on this, I get the impression that they shape the lore progressively depending on what they need for a game in particular (maybe I'm wrong) and I could imagine P. Weekes watching your video (because he does) and thinking "Man, that's a f****g good idea ! ^^ ****
The whole Void, Forgotten Ones, deep roads thing keeps making me think it's very related to the Titans, like at the end of the Descent DLC when we were inside the Titan, I'd call looking down and not being able to see anything a sort of Void/abyss, where we've found out Lyrium is like the blood/lifeforce of a Titan, so maybe the Forgotten Ones were banished inside of a Titan to it's lower depths, where the Forgotten Ones could be anything still, the early dwarves or elves etc, we still don't know exactly yet, and then after being banished the Titan looked after them, then the Forgotten Ones while being hunted the Titan got mad/injured or something along those lines, turning the Lyrium into red Lyrium. The whole armour made of the void could be armour made of red lyrium which then corrupted and spread etc.
Solas' exhibited power of turning people to stone seems reminiscent of the anvil of the void (Meredith also turns to "stone"), so I always figured the foci were indeed stolen titans' power/hearts. He also mentions to the Inq that Corypheus was able to (indirectly) control the archdemon with the orb. The fact that Mythal knows where the "void" is and is connected somehow to the Blight makes me nervous - what would Mythal do if she could control the remaining archdemons? Great video! I hope we see the remaining magisters eventually.
OKAY SO I HAD SOME WACKY THOUGHTS AT 6:20
What if the Void was the Deep Roads? Like, before the Veil, the Deep Roads and the Void were the same. The Void was the section of the Fade that corresponded to Deep Roads.
Or maybe the Deep Roads were originally made as a way to access the Void? I dunno, I like both of these ideas. And I still like the idea that the Blight comes from an angry and vengeful Titan who turned themselves into Red Lyrium and spawned the Blight to seek revenge upon the Elves.
(edit:) Okay okay okay, even wackier idea. The Void is a Red Lyrium Titan. We know that the Titan we visit had a sky? That was down? So what if the Void Titan just has an infinite pit. Just an endless night sky. That would explain why it would be called a place of nothingness and why the Deep Roads would be connected to the Void.
The horror of Hormac freaked me out but also got me super excited for DA4! I cant wait to slay some wild ass monsters!
They should save the last blights for the very last dragon age. so it will have to be set in 98/99 dragon and the final battle will end at the dawn of a new age.
A Phoenix age
It will be a perfect way to end dragon age
Don't say that 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭
@@luizpaulonm . Yes, I want to see an ending to this story, especially when they took 7-8 years to release the next entry.
@@SeventhheavenDK I agree with you and it hurts.
Or a Gryphon Age, but yes, that would be cool 😊
Given this precedent that DA4 took forever since DAI, I'd rather want to see it end sooner before I die
I suppose the future bligths would put in question the faith of many and Tevinter would answer simply by saying "For the first time it wasn't us"
Ohh seeing as how we are speculating and you requested that we "tin foil" viewers add our own, here are some of mine.
1: The Hero of Fereldan will possibly return (not as a playable character, but through Morigan) after being successful in discovering how to remove the blight, not just from tainted wardens but all things blighted as I believe Flemeth/Mythal foresaw. Hopefully in a scenario with either, or both, Hawke and the Inquisitor.
2: Mythal, in an attempt to stop the other Evanuris from gaining unlimited power, slew the chief Titan (keeping in mind they too are immortal) that the Evanuris had found, planning to drain it, and this is why they slew her. In slaying it, it may have given it the blight?
3: Could the Titans be the old gods that placed their spirit/soul into dragon form that dwell deep under Thedas, hibernating, in order to hide their true location from those that would corrupt them? (The dragon avatars that become Archdemons are tainted by dark spawn yet in the lore dragons are immune to blight).
4: Could the Qunari be hybrid Elf/Dragon, as Coryphéus suggested, if so would they be from die hard Evanuris loyalists attempting to protect themselves from the blight?
5: Sandal has the soul of an old god like Kieran had and could possibly be the eighth unknown one.
1. The Hero must return. The red lyrium growth must be stopped, and only the cure can do it. This would also give the Hero a legitimate reason for being uninvolved with the main plot to stop Solas for the rest of the game. The Hero could be working with others off-screen to neutralize the red lyrium growths all over Ferelden and Orlais. But I agree the Hero should make an in-game cameo appearance.
2. I think it's more likely Mythal slew a titan to gain its power for herself, and to stop it from destroying the elvhen creations. There is a message stating that the elvhen praised Mythal for defeating a titan that was shaking their structures. As for why the evanuris killed Mythal, it's anyone's guess. Flemeth's Fade world if Kieran carried the soul of Urthemiel shows statue representations for Falon'Din and Dirthamen, with a sword through Dirthamen's back. So that might indicate that the brothers were involved in Mythal's murder. Elgar'nan probably sanctioned the assassination, but couldn't bring himself to do it. As for why, my guess is that Mythal was unfaithful to Elgar'nan, and perhaps Solas was the one she cheated with. Flemeth remarks that Mythal was betrayed as she was betrayed. Flemeth's tale involves some infidelity, so maybe that's the case with Mythal as well. Flemeth and Solas seemed a little too buddy-buddy, and Mythal's temple had Fen'Harel statues.
3. No. The darkspawn are said to avoid the sound of the titans. Also, Urthemiel's prison was found around the general area of the titan in The Descent, not within the titan.
4. More likely they're an early experiment gone wrong, perhaps of the Neromenians, the ancestors of the Tevinters. It's possible the grey liquid was involved.
5. Flemeth spoke to Sandal, confirmed by Sandal himself. If he had held such a soul, Flemeth would have come for it already.
@@BelieveIt1051 Hey thanks for replying. #3 In a Dragon avatar the Titan song might be different. (just speculating). I thought the fifth blight burst out from the Korcari wilds which is far from the Storm Coast.
#4 I said that due to the Kossith having the same ears as elves.
#5 Yes I am aware Sandal and Flemeth met from Sandals comment to Hawke in DA2. If Sandal does have an old god soul it may be unwilling to leave Sandal and is a match for a weakened Mythal in Flemeth.
@@phonic0photon Sure thing. I like discussing Dragon Age.
3. Possible, but the darspawn would still have to dig through the titan and face any sha-brytol. The 5th Blight did first appear in the Kocari Wilds, but the Archdemon was moving underground. We first spot it in the flesh in the Deep Roads right before we meet the Legion of the Dead. So it's possible for the Archdemon to be near Orazammar while still commanding its troops in the Wilds.
4. I think it's been speculated for a while that qunari are mixed with elves, though I think people mainly based it on the fact that Tevinters owned elven slaves as well as qunari. I always thought the qunari having pointed ears made no sense. Sten had round ears. So you could be right. Maybe BioWare gave them pointed ears after the fact because they wanted to link them to the elves.
5. Eh. I don't know. I always thought Sandal was just touched, and that he was able to kill many darkspawn using special runes he made. Every since The Descent, I've thought maybe Sandal established a connection with a titan.
@@BelieveIt1051 I, too, took Sandal as being just as he appeared. I sort of changed my mind when on another DA channel they speculated he may be more. When I played trespasser I did not give much thought to the codex mentioning him found at one of the ruins, then after listening to that presentation I began dwelling on how a Dwarf enchanter supposedly without magic could activate an Eluvian (Could an enchanted rune be a key?). But then again Solas did say Briana controlled a section of the Eluvian network which I thought she used an elf mage or may herself have magic to open it. I am probably reading way too much into it, but still ponder how a touched savant could know what an Eluvian was.
@@phonic0photon Well, an eluvian can be opened by anyone with the correct key or phrase. That's why the Viddasala was having all those various items studied. Sandal could have activated such a key, or his own thoughts might have been recorded in the Shattered Library similar to how Varric's ideas for the Hard in Hightown ending are recorded.

Well done Jack! This series is shaping up to be one of your best!
Aww thank you so so much! That means a lot to me! Thank you!

Just a great video added to your already brillant collection. I just clicked the like button directly at the start.
I really hope that DA 4 will live up to our expectations.
Excellent video! I’m really enjoying this series!
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see at least some of your theories play out in the next game.
While answers would be nice I also am a firm believer in that some questions are best left unanswered. It makes lore more interesting IMO. Tom Bombadil in LOTR, Certain aspects of dark souls (a series I don't play), Joker's true backstory, and Lovecraft stories. Sometimes its best left unanswered less it weaken already strong lore.
I agree with you. I think that was both a strength and weakness of DAI. Our knowledge was much advanced from origins and DA2 but at the possibility of it being less than satisfying ie the ancient elves are behind everything.
Hey Jackdaw! So as I am playing Dragon Age Inquisition again (10th time) In Western Approach ( on the mission find research for the Orlesian). My inquisitor came across an Ancient Grey Warden Notes at the Shimmer Stone Mine location about the Second Blight. It explains that as the Grey Wardens are heading down into the mine (its Dwarven thiag) to face the Archdemon or Old God....the mine caved in and they lost some Grey Wardens. Of course some tried to turn back but the GW Captain says we will just find another Archdemon to kill. So does that mean that one of the Old Gods are in that mine?!?! Because it also says that as they were descending into the mine, the calling or voices were becoming Extremely Loud.
If I could take a picture and add the note I would.. 😁
Additional notes for the bit with the magisters:
According to the devs being sent to the Fade how Corypheus was did effectively kill him but perhaps if we ever revisit the Fade we will see how the blight has kept him alive.
There are codex entries that describe possible other darkspawn similar to the Magisters Sidereal, as seen by a dwarf who was lost once (saw three tall, intelligent, regal darkspawn, they got into an argument, one ran away while another ate the third). So there are potential plot threads of the other forgotten magisters roaming the Deep Roads.
Who else wishes to rescue an old god from being blighted in a future game or DLC?
Firstly your speculation is richly cohesive and well thought. I jest that the old gods true form might be a Nug 🤣. I so love this story yet fear it is going to take decades to complete as it could be four or more games to complete, not to mention possibly a few games in prelude within the ancient elvhen world. I hope DA4 will have many large DLC extras. It is always a pleasure to contemplate your speculations.
I think the real question that nobody is asking is where tf is Sandal & will he return to do our enchantments in the next game?!?!
I'll be delving into that when I talk about the Dwarven Kingdoms. Sandal is a long time coming topic for sure!
Either Orlais, revisited since we didn't see enough of it in DA:I, or the Dwarven Ambassadoria in Minrathous.
Great video! I love Dragon Age so much. I'm hoping that this saga ends at 99 Dragon Age and then the next set of stories will be within the next Age.
A bit late, but I just had this thought after starting another playthrough of Inquisition. Dorian made a comment about the "men and women who entered the Black City" that got me thinking. If there were female Magisters who became corrupted, would they be the very first broodmothers? I think I heard somewhere that dwarven version of "How the Blights began" was that all darkspawn could be traced back to the first broodmothers. I'm not 100% certain about this, since I can't seem to find that information anywhere. I do like the idea that different races have different stories as to why the Blights began, and that each version could have a few kernels of truth to them.
I still think until proven otherwise that the archdemons were that other pantheon of elves often mentioned.
Or the 'dark sides' / Avatars of the trapped gods, but connected, yes.
Maybe the Architect paid a visit to Weisshaupt.
Very good idea! I'd love to see him again too!
I absolutely expect this to happen.
I let the Architect go so he could continue his research
Corypheus perhaps unlocked the same power of the blight the ancient elves did. In the Temple of Sacred Ashes he performed a blood magic ritual sacrificing a titan, the lyrium filled mountain the temple is built on top of, in order to rip open the Veil. Notably that cause the lyrium not consumed to become blighted red lyrium.
It would be interesting to PREVENT the next blights instead of just fighting in another blight. Now, I have the feeling that the decay Corypheus mentions to be inside the Qunari's blood is a point of interest. I wouldn't find strange if the Triumverate (dunno the spelling) would not only find, but also hide and, maybe, worship, one of those dragons. They found dozens of eluvians. They might have been to places we dare not imagine. Also, we know the Qunari have been studying red lyrium and we don't know for how long, but the daarvarad agent talking to Talis had been studying that for maybe quite a while. And if they are studying without the necessary precautions, then they are possibly even more dangerous now. How come the Antaan and the Ben Hassrath are disagreeing so strongly? In Teviter Nights, the Ben hassrath guy let the s.o.b Antaan be killed and even support the rebels because the guy was not following the Qun. Doesn't he fear the consequences? Isn't it all what the Qun is about, like, you don't question your superiors and such? It really seems that they are not united and this discord may be an external factor.
And, as always, great video, man! Keep up the good work for ✌😀
Great video!
Maybe after Mythal made Andruil forget about the Void she trapped the Blight/angry!Titan essence or sth in some floating forbidden island which, with the creation of the Veil, came to be thought of as the Golden/Black City? It would explain why the elves, despite trying to kill a titan and mining it for lyrium and apparently having been in contact with red lyrium *still* did not suffer Blights...
Yeah there could be something into that, it'd be interesting to know if the DA writers had full drawn out plans for what caused what right at the start or if they've been changing it as they go
@@Soutar3DG I'm certain they didn't have everything hammered out ten years ago, but they definitely did have some major plot twists set up early.
It's kind of a trope in these large stories. What caused the first Blight for example? Well in DA:O everyone knows what the chantry says and the story goes along with it but there are lots of doubts and questions that don't get answered.
I doubt the writers had Solas in mind then, so they (like many wtiters) left that part vague to circle back to.
Done well, it works like revealing who Solas is, and when it doesn't you just know.
I remember reading in the Alistair comics that the time of koslun has a passage on old gods( for some reason) and it says that the old where like to dragons what kings were to people.
Sometimes in movies and comics the good guys have to team up with a big bad to defeat another ever bigger bad. and the darkspawn could be the key to defeating solas
You think Solas is worse than the Darkspawn? Or by 'bigger bad' do you just mean stronger/harder to defeat?
@@AgentZ46 yes and yes
@@TheRoguePrince0 Most of the darkspawn are mindless monsters who only destroy everything in their path, when they're not kidnapping women and turning them into broodmothers. Solas is an enemy undeniably but has a reason for what he's doing and if you've earned his respect dreads what he's about to do. Darkspawn have no remorse or regrets. Like or hate Solas it just doesn't sound right to say he's worse than the darkspawn.
@@AgentZ46 the darkspawn are the lesser evil and sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.
@@TheRoguePrince0 Tell me Why they're a lesser evil. In terms of morality why is Solas worse?
Still pulling for Mythal as a 'good guy', but otherwise, yep. I'm not completely sold on the 'Void' and ' Abyss' being below-ground... I still think whoever mentioned the Black City being the Void had something. Like... Maybe the Fade and Void are inside-out in the Blight Place.
Super awesome video! Thank you so much for your content! :0)
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
I really hope that, if they decide to start another blight in the next game (or DA5 for that matter xD) that they do both old gods at once. We have already defeated a blight once, so another one would be too much of a repeat for me (not to mention all the comparisons the game would then have to endure agaisnt DAO)... But I do hope they come back in some form xD Great video!
It'd be completely different honestly. Being banished in lower thedas and the silence at the anderfels would have it spread massively
Bioware wouldn't do a warden main character again so your character won't be the one to end it
The whole of thedas have forgotten, and even the 5th blight most of thedas don't even believe it was a blight
And with every other apocalypse going on in thedas it would be an additional plot point
Your character would have to save the world despite the bought, fighting solas who would no doubt be thriving on the chaos that is taking attention off him and his plans
I am hoping they rescue an old god before it can be blighted.
That ending tho
You like? xD
I feel that they need to fight the blight once again
Is it possible that the Evanuris are blighted, because the Golden city is blighted?
It would be cool to try and get to the archdemons before the darkspawn too. idk if Bioware would actually be interesting enough to follow up on this but yes, it would be very cool.
I would love to see the blight resurging as the true enemy at the end if da4.
Thanks for sharing this one Jackdaw! Very informative... Keep it up! 👍😊
Thanks, will do!
What if the evanuris created the red lyrium idol from the titans and these idol are actually the cause of the the blight they sing to the dark spwan and take the dark spwan as it's vassal and re-create it self into the shape of dragon.
After all Bianca stated that the red lyrium is the blight it's a living thing
So could it be the essence of the evanuris / titans be the cause of the blight?
OMG I love your videos XD
I honestly think we might have to defeat the remaining Old Gods in the next game.
that would be epic. godly fights
Is it definitive that the old gods, forgotten ones and titans are all different ? Like, could they hypothetically all be the same ? 🤔
I wanna save an old god before it gets blighted, so we can get more information and understand a little more
Great video. But dangit....I dont want everything to come back to the elves!
👊👊👊
Didn't Solas say the gods were just elven mages?
Hm.. looking at veilguard…
6th blight
It's coming for sure!
👍
Why not remaster dragon age origins give the hof a few voice actors and bring them back to future dragon age games. Then let's see the hero of ferelden kick ass
Rogue XB because EA shit.
I think coryphous is a liar
I really dont like the theorization in this videos. If the videos are suppose to inform about important topics for dragon age 4 then great, but I dont want to potentially be spoiled if your theory are correct. If I heard that it can be a certain way and it is then the surprise is not as big.
I'm afraid that's the trouble with most speculative and theory based content, you're always at risk of it potentially being true and ruining the surprise when the game does come out.
@@JackdawYT yeah, maybe a a nice way to do it would be to (in this series) leave the speculations for the end of the video. Just a idea tho :)
Its obvious isnt it? The dumb elves did it. They do everything wrong in these games. Except the city elves there good
THE CHANTRY IS A LIE
FOR REAL! XD
