My father was a police officer most of his life, he retired, and a few years ago was killed in a hit an run crossing the street. One thing he would always tell me was if he could go back and do it over again, he would have been a carpenter, he always wanted to build things. This is what sparked my interest, and passion in woodworking. It’s been three years, and I’ve built some things I’m proud of, and some I want to redo, but it’s been a connection to my dad. We never threw a baseball, but he always took me shooting. I’m going to take some of your tips here, and make something that would have put a smile on my dads face, thank you.
Me and my father had built our own gun cabinet out of a regular cabinet from a local thrift shop. We cut, sanded, stained, and assembled it. We had a great time doing it. It was one of the last projects I built with him before he passed from cancer in August of 2020.
I do on a regular basic, I build one of your multi height shoot rest, portable seats for myself and two of my shoot friends, portable shoot tree, target stands , I could use a few more ideas from your workshop😎😎
Roy, I enjoy and appreciate your pleasant, relaxed personality. I only recently discovered your channel as I was searching for shooting target ideas. Thank you. Subscribed.
Love the short how-to videos. Roy is a natural. The bunny ears he's wearing in some of the gun cabinet shop scenes are pretty funny. We can't decide if he planned this mischievous appearance, or it's the camera crew playing tricks. Either way it's great. Maybe your producer can arrange to plant a few more subtle or not so subtle "Easter Eggs" in future videos.
I really had no idea that you are a jack of all trades when it comes to guns. I just knew you as a prolific and knowledgeable gun scribe and former cop.
Very nice and inspirational video! Here in Austria we have to store our guns in a locked cabinet or a safe and all the commercial options within my budget look horrible, so I started thinking about building my own cabinet. And your video just gave me the inspiration to turn thoughts into plans and hopefully soon into a decent looking cabinet so I can finally buy and properly store my first pistol and rifle.
@@fmgpubs that’s what I thought too, but I will probably cover the glass with a opaque foil or add the option to place a opaque sheet of acrylic directly behind the glass so I can easily switch between a clear or opaque door. Just so I can prevent people from being able to see the guns when I leave the window open or when I have guests I don’t know too well. After all there have been a few cases where hysterical people called the cops after seeing someone’s (legally owned) guns through a window and I wouldn’t really want that to happen to me.
@@fmgpubs Austria is a country with quite a lot of guns (800-900 000 legal registered guns and an estimated 1.7 million illegal unregistered guns), but we don’t see guns very often as only cops, military and some security guards carry their guns in public and hunters and sports shooters have to transport them in locked containers. So while most people don’t really care about such things, there are a few hysterical individuals who automatically assume that any gun they see in civilian hands has to be illegal or that the person handling it has nefarious intentions. A few years ago there was a case where a security guard forgot to take his gun off after work and people in the subway called the police because they saw the gun in his holster. The cops thought it could be a potential active shooter scenario and locked down the entire subway station, but eventually they just approached the guy who was completely unaware of the commotion he caused and told him to put the gun in his backpack. I doubt that these people would survive if they ever visited areas of the US where open carry is allowed.
You bet Mike. I didn’t plan on doing a video so just took stills, but when I was done I thought what the heck. It might inspire someone to tackle their own project. Roy
No plans, but keep in mind something like this is just a box, with some added features. Check youtube for “how to make a cabinet” etc. and you’ll see plenty of ideas! Roy

Brother i was going to go full oak until they tried selling 1 board for 138$. This is now the plan, mainly cuz its green. Odg is my jam so i take it as a sign
I measured mine then went to a local glass store/installer. I think the total was about $65, but it was good quality tempered glass, nicely edge beveled. Roy
I don’t, because everyone can make it to meet their own needs. But this shows you some of the techniques to build one. Ask if you have more questions. Roy
