I was born & raised in Fairbanks, and loved making snow shelters. We would cut bricks as you did here for the upper rows, and 'cast' our own base blocks using a large drink cooler with the lid removed. Huge snow bricks!
What a great little helper you have there. It’s great to instill good work ethics at a young age compared to most kids who complain and only play video games. It’s really beautiful scenery up there. You’ve picked a great place to raise your family.
Im sure it’s a primal thing inside us all to sometimes just get back out into the wilderness and enjoy the peace, quite and simplicity of life (but at the same time, appreciate the complexity of building that igloo which was amazing). Loved this video 👍

I love to keep warm and prefer heat over freezing cold although I'd give myself a go for one night like that because of the polar night . What a sight to behold !
Hands down the best igloo build I have ever seen! Thank you for including the build time. My guess was 12 hours plus. 10 hours for that size is really great. I have made the same biscuits and sausage myself done next to a campfire on tinfoil. I always have a block of cheese though for the fats to keep warm and I shave some off onto the biscuit. Excellent video. Thank you.

Hello Tonia! That is a great bucket list item. Sleeping in a well set up igloo is comfortable and enjoyable. It is also very quiet inside. The snow does a good job of muffling the sounds from outside, so you also get a very quiet place to sleep.

A HOT Igloo! I was thinking no way you make an igloo. Then you installed a heating and cooking system! Yeah forget the tent....🤣🤣🤣🤣 The fatwood had a crazy little burn.
Yes. The igloo can be quite comfortable with the addition of a little heat. It is just one of those things that everyone should try to experience at least once.
Watching this from a tropical country like india & getting the urge to spend such a snowman life is like a dream for me , i feel like i have been born in the wrong country coz i just love winters & snow summer ain't my thing ❄️
Good igloo, man! It's good that you have such compressed snow. When I was building my igloo, the snow was not dense. This made the task very difficult. By the way, I did not see in the video how and where do you cut out the snow bricks? Or did you use some kind of press? I couldn't setup stove in my igloo (I didn't have a stove at that moment), so I slept in the fridge 🥶😄❄ How long did you heat the stove? I saw that you brought the pipe right up to the snow. Didn't that melt the hole a lot in the process? Did you cover the entrance to the igloo with a hide or an awning? What was the temperature inside? I hope this year I will find time to repeat this amazing building experience, I now have a stove 🙂 Have a nice day, everyone! 🙌
Good evening friend. Thanks for your comments. It times, I can find dense, wind-packed snow for my blocks, especially in the mountains. Otherwise I pack it and let it freeze for several days. I can use my snowmobile for this and pack a large area fairly quickly. You asked about the stove pipe. It does not melt the snow around the pipe for more than a few inches. However, it is about -20 F in this video so that helps. I always cover the entrance with a small tarp to keep the wind out. I added an old sleeping bag too on this trip because I thought a little insulation would be good. Good luck on your next build. Peace from Alaska
He had precut the blocks from a snowfield he had packed down with his snowmobile previously. He's really well-practiced at this skill and he's wonderful to watch.

I watched an old black & white type film in elementary school of an Igloo being built by Native Alaskan people, (this had to of been in the 60's or 70's). It's great to know that the method & artistry is still alive!

I love this. I have watched it twice and it just amazes me. The blocks used look so heavy, but I guess they have a lot of air in them, thus making them lighter. But, the peace of being able to cook a meal inside the igloo, and just enjoy the quiet, the cold, the warmth... just sounds wonderful. Also, how do you deal with the "gaps" between blocks? Do you fill them in with snow?

I love to keep warm and prefer heat over freezing cold although I'd give myself a go for one night like that because of the polar night . What a sight to behold !

It's similar to the "kamakura" in Japan.
It's surprisingly warm and comfortable!
It's also nice to sit outside by the fire and watch the stars.
How splendid! I have to admit, I almost fell out of my chair when you broke open the biscuits and sausage. Oh, that is simply rich!
Hands down the best igloo build I have ever seen! Thank you for including the build time. My guess was 12 hours plus. 10 hours for that size is really great. I have made the same biscuits and sausage myself done next to a campfire on tinfoil. I always have a block of cheese though for the fats to keep warm and I shave some off onto the biscuit. Excellent video. Thank you.

Hello Tonia! That is a great bucket list item. Sleeping in a well set up igloo is comfortable and enjoyable. It is also very quiet inside. The snow does a good job of muffling the sounds from outside, so you also get a very quiet place to sleep.

Yes. The igloo can be quite comfortable with the addition of a little heat. It is just one of those things that everyone should try to experience at least once.

Watching this from a tropical country like india & getting the urge to spend such a snowman life is like a dream for me , i feel like i have been born in the wrong country coz i just love winters & snow summer ain't my thing ❄️
Good igloo, man! It's good that you have such compressed snow. When I was building my igloo, the snow was not dense. This made the task very difficult.
By the way, I did not see in the video how and where do you cut out the snow bricks? Or did you use some kind of press?
I couldn't setup stove in my igloo (I didn't have a stove at that moment), so I slept in the fridge 🥶😄❄
How long did you heat the stove? I saw that you brought the pipe right up to the snow. Didn't that melt the hole a lot in the process?
Did you cover the entrance to the igloo with a hide or an awning? What was the temperature inside?
I hope this year I will find time to repeat this amazing building experience, I now have a stove 🙂

Good evening friend. Thanks for your comments. It times, I can find dense, wind-packed snow for my blocks, especially in the mountains. Otherwise I pack it and let it freeze for several days. I can use my snowmobile for this and pack a large area fairly quickly. You asked about the stove pipe. It does not melt the snow around the pipe for more than a few inches. However, it is about -20 F in this video so that helps. I always cover the entrance with a small tarp to keep the wind out. I added an old sleeping bag too on this trip because I thought a little insulation would be good. Good luck on your next build. Peace from Alaska
You also asked about the I interior temperature. I always keep it just below freezing to prevent dampness. It is actually very comfortable

He had precut the blocks from a snowfield he had packed down with his snowmobile previously.
He's really well-practiced at this skill and he's wonderful to watch.

I am a cold weather person. Also love camping. You look so cozy in there. Great stove! I was wondering if polar bears ever attack igloos.
Good morning my friend. Polar bears are very aggressive and do attack campsites. There are no polar bears in the Alaska Range though. They are further north.
@@ThisIsMyAlaska Do other animals "sneak in" the igloo. I get there's no polar bears, but wolves, marten?
I watched an old black & white type film in elementary school of an Igloo being built by Native Alaskan people, (this had to of been in the 60's or 70's). It's great to know that the method & artistry is still alive!

I love this. I have watched it twice and it just amazes me. The blocks used look so heavy, but I guess they have a lot of air in them, thus making them lighter. But, the peace of being able to cook a meal inside the igloo, and just enjoy the quiet, the cold, the warmth... just sounds wonderful.
Also, how do you deal with the "gaps" between blocks? Do you fill them in with snow?
I feel like the fire he had in there at first might have melted the blocks together
