Just got back from Jarkata and Malaysia in July, honestly I love all Indonesian dishes but Rendang is my most favorite. Garuda restaurant in Jakarta was good too.

xanh01 aha..so your love for indonesian food is a lil bit biased tho :p cus of the wife...but yeah..Padang Merdeka is in jakarta. the interior is really beautiful, very patriotic...and the food is out of this world. the curry is so smooth and thick. very well balanced. u should try the ayam pop, their specialty. other than padang food, soto betawi, ayam taliwang are a couple of my fave. darn it..mouth watering atm.

it depends on what city or province you are visiting. Most big cities in indonesia like Bandung and Jakarta has at least 70 % halal food restaurants or cafes. But if you go to bali or other places when muslim to non muslim ratio is more or less balanced then you'll find more non halal food too.

Most elementary school already teaches english, and Jakarta as the capital city got a lot of foreigners coming so it is quite common. What is not common is the warteg guy escorted the dish to his table. Usually we grab them once the plate is full, and take it ourselves to where we're seating and eat
When they travel to different countries trying different food they make me wanna travel, when they travel to your country they make you wanna go down the street and buy the food he ate. This is a great experience for everyone
