I love Joni Mitchell, great poet, incredible singer, musician, songwriter, composer, producer and painter. She is one of the most influential and important artist of this lifetime. Thank you for your reaction. Truly, Joni's voice is not at its best on these two songs, as amazing as she sounded, she is so much better than this, you would be amazed at her voice. She really skipped the high notes and the long beautiful slides from highs to lows to keep her voice from cracking. This was the end of the show, but she wanted to keep singing, however, her voice was telling her she needed to stop for the night. Great performer and multi-instrumentalist. You might react to her song Case Of You (You will love the poetry in this song. Listen to it on your own if you don't have time to react to it), River, For Free, Coyote, Little Green and Blue, all different and all beautiful. In reality, you can't go wrong with any Joni Mitchell songs. You have a beautiful, calm and peaceful speaking voice, by the way.
Joni is a genius. She started very folky, and evolved into a jazz oriented artist by the later 70’s. She is also an excellent guitarist and pianist, and plays a few other instruments too. She’s a deep rabbit hole.
Joni Mitchell is an absolute genius. She had a long career and has a vast catalog of masterpieces. She's an amazing writer. You should check out the album Hejira.
I LOVE Hejira…and yet…for a new Joni fan it is not as accessible until one understands Joni. Start with “Blue” or “Court and Spark” …then go to “Hejira” for Joni Grad School!
@@uptownjay I hear you and agree, in general. However I think Pope is already into deep "penmanship" so I think he's ready and ought to know about Hejira now.
Oh I have to say I watched you closely and this music touched you. Yes our music is “from a while ago”, but it always touched the soul. We had beautiful, happy, soulful, strong, and wild music. We had it all, and now it’s all for you young generation. Enjoy!!
Joe-nee... Check out Patty Smith -"Horses." Bobbie Gentry - "Ode to Billy Joe." Annette Peacock, Nina Simone, Aretha!!! Debbie Harry, So many... Love ya young cats gettin' to our geezin' $hit. Peace on earth.
One of The Great performers, song writers, singers of the 20th century!!! When she sang "Both Sides Now" in her later years, it was soooooo powerful, so emotional, I teared up, wow.
"Both Sides Now" was a big hit for Glenn Campbell as well. "Woodstock" is another one for two bands, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the US and Matthews' Southern Comfort in the UK and Continental Europe.
California, Help Me, Free Man in Paris, A Case of You are some really big songs from her. For a deeper dive- That Song About the Midway….whether it is her doing it or Bonnie Raitt covering it.
I’ve probably seen this clip a hundred times if I’ve heard it once.. and every time.. every time.. and it still sends shivers up and down my body and makes my heart skip beats 💓❤ 🔥 🎸 💜
It's funny you mentioned poetry, she is also a poet,a painter and obviously a great singer and song writer. In my eyes she is one of the best song writers ,man or womanbof the last 60 years.
I am empathic. I feel so much connection between you and her. It's really amazing. So much energy. POPE has a lot of energy or a lot of people, but I feel like Joni Mitchell and he have a soul connection.
I really recommend you revisit this song in her 2000 performance. It feels so different. By that time, Joni’s style had changed. I bet it will knock your socks off. Everything she does is gold though. A Case of You makes some people cry.
She went on to more jazz oriented material, check out her songs Help Me, Black Crow, or Edith & The Kingpin. Another great singer-songwriter: Joan Armatrading. Very eclectic, try Love & Affection, or The Shouting Stage (with Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits on guitar.)
Hi Pope! i just subscribed YAY! heh...looks like ya have already reacted to **ALL** of my most loved group **Led Zeppelin** which totally **Rocks!!!** & since ya are now doing female artists another song by **Joni Mitchell** ya might want to check out **Wish I Had A River** or also wondering if ya have reacted yet to any **Alanis Morisette** if not maybe someday ya can check out some of her songs a good one to start with is **You Oughta Know** or **Ironic** or **Hand In Pocket** or **Uninvited** or **Thank You** anyway **Thank YOU** for your time & consideration **PixieHugz&LuvzALL**
Big Yellow Taxi is my favorite Joni Mitchell song, but I prefer Judy Collins' version of Both Sides Now to Joni's. Maybe you can react to Judy's version sometime. Thx. Great reactions, Pope.
Since you like Both Sides Now, Give a listen to The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell Carol King-sooo many Up On The Roof (sung by James Taylor) ; Will you love me tomorrow( sung by the Shirelles) It’s too Late (sung by Carol King) Judy Collins The Moon is a Harsh Mistress Joan Baez- Diamonds and Rust
If you want to hear the best female singer of twentieth century, listen to Linda Rondstat. She sung pop, rock, blues, country, jazz ballads, Mexican mariachi and opera, and she did it all brilliantly. Sadly, she now has a rare disease that prevents her from singing 😢. We are sad, not to be able to hear her beautiful voice any more.I can't imagine what it's like for her to just not to be able to practise the art she dedicated her life to. 😢
Check out Elaine, Look What They've Done To My Song. So much poetry in our music when I was growing up. Old now...lol, but worth it to have the music experience that I had. Keep on! Great reaction!
@@classicrocklady6288 There's a South African singer named Elaine. I thought maybe she did a cover. It didn't click with me that it could had been auto correct. 😊
You seem to be like myself. I can write guy poetry, i'm a guy. However, when I read my sister's poetry, it blew me away. She had emotions a guy has a hard time grasping. I like Bob Dylan and other male song writers but lady song writers blow me away to a different world. Viva La Difference! Were men and women the same, it'd be so boring!
If you haven't heard Janis Joplin yet, check out a few of her songs: "Cry Baby" (th-cam.com/video/xRhHdFRFBAs/w-d-xo.html) "Me and Bobby McGee" (th-cam.com/video/sfjon-ZTqzU/w-d-xo.html) "Piece of My Heart" (th-cam.com/video/nMDqPGAwIm8/w-d-xo.html)
These songs are poignant, each in its own way. That effect was multiplied many times over by the admittedly fragile state of her voice. (She was practically croaking out some of the lyrics.) Get yourself a copy of Court and Spark. She was out of her young flower child vibe and into her mature, sexy, worldly young woman stage. The first three songs are among her most powerful, yet sophisticated, especially "Help Me" and "Free Man in Paris." However, the album is like a string of pearls--all of them are wonderful.
Joni Mitchell is a legend. Rolling Stone named her one of the top ten songwriters of all time, she has 11 Grammy’s and numerous other awards.

I think that album is her most mature and settled album, everything comes together and meshes beautifully. I listen to that one often.

She is so talented and smart. She produced all of her own music.
@@Justheresk2002 Yes, she produced or co-produced all of her albums, also designed most of her album covers and provided the art for them as well.
Love how happy she was to just be there and singing. She's having a blast doing exactly what she loves. This is nirvana for artists. So inspiring.
She's the greatest Canadian female singer songwriter of all time and a national treasure. 😊
2 iconic tunes with such great meaning by one of the best singer songwriters in the history of folk, folk rock, or pop music!

I have watched this every day for probably two weeks now.
This was the first protest song about destruction of the environment that was at the start of the tree hugger movement. Yeah Joni!
Someone else made the guitar, but Joni tuned it in a unique way. She played her composition on it and sang her lyrics and had an audience enchanted.
She can make you laugh and cry within a couple of minutes. I knew you'd like her artistry. Thanks Pope. Please Do Woodstock next. She wrote it. 😊❤
"Both Sides Now" was a big hit for Glenn Campbell as well. "Woodstock" is another one for two bands, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the US and Matthews' Southern Comfort in the UK and Continental Europe.
It was Judy Collins that Joni wrote the song and had a huge hit with it. The following year Joni put it on an help on her solo work!
Pure class!
