This theme is truly awesome, always liked the bad guys as a kid
The story of Mulan is a microcosm of late ancient/early medieval Chinese history, and also a time when the Chinese emperor's armies fought to defend the Chinese nation from the Xiongnu Huns living in Mongolia. The Great Wall was still under construction at the time when the Sui dynasty began, and it had some mixed results protecting China from the Xiongnu invaders.
