    Chase, I would love to see some small text on the bottom of the video that gives the name of the current bag you're describing. I find I tend to jump around in the video and often can't tell what you're currently talking about, or I'm cross-referencing at the same time and often miss when you say the name :)

      @@tanyahugh6225 Putting a price is tough as these videos are going to be on for quite a while and prices tend to fluctuate. Even putting a baseline price might be troublesome since, as a reviewer, he is sent bags, sometimes even before they are released to the general public, and manufacturers sometimes delay the release of the price to gauge the interest first.

    You said on the Aer pack that you found the compression straps annoying, I'd just like to offer a different point of view...
    I love those compression straps because they go over the main zipper... The Aer pack is built durable anyway, but those compression straps offer me a little more peace of mind by taking some of the load and responsibility off that zipper

    I think a great idea would be to do this but have superlatives and a bag for each
    e.g. Best features - PD 45L, most durable- GR3, most weather resistant-Arris, etc.

    Your PAKT design is very unique and offers great protection for the laptop. I no longer even consider any backpacks that don’t have the laptop pocket next to the back (carry straps) - it’s flat and weight is closest to your back and I also only look at bags with separate laptop zippered compartment. It just makes sense. I also notice all these one bag travel reviews online are very expensive bags. Little attention to the under $100 bags (Inateck, Hygel, etc..) that do the same thing for those of us (majority) who are not travelling every weekend and frankly prefer to put $200-$400 towards other things and family members.

  • @chadalbert5074

    I had just about settled on a Tortuga Setout and they don't sell them any longer. Decided I can live with the tacticool look on the GR3 and was willing to shell out the exorbitant amount of money they're asking for them. They don't sell those any longer either.
    The Aer 3 and new Tortuga 40L went back because the main compartments were just too small. The Peak design is too big for carry on at 11" wide when expanded, probably too small at 35L when not expanded.
    I currently use a Red Oxx Air Boss carry on when flying domestically and it works perfectly when I don't have long layovers or customs lines. I'd like a convertible or backpack, max 22x14x9 with 95% of the space in the main compartment and a padded laptop slot.
    Almost all of the bags I've looked at have too many dividers and small compartments at the expense of the main compartment. I'm 6'6" and 280 lbs. Big clothes. I can fit clothes for 4 days in the 40L 22x14x8 Air Boss so I know I can get away with a 22x14x8 or 9 if the main is big enough. The Aeronaut 45 and the Red Oxx Sky Train don't have the laptop slots. I've got a flight to Amsterdam coming up, and don't want a full size laptop bag taking up the legroom under the seat on 12 hours of flight time.
    Ideas?

  • @papsny
    @papsny 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The pakt travel bag hits 2 things.
    1. No matter how organized you are, when it's time to go home during a trip, all that organization goes away and that meshed compartment for clothes will make sure things still stay organized or segmented.
    2. That additional side for whatever i want to bring is great for cameras or an extra pair of shoes or flipflops.
    You see, this is where buying a bag by Chase Reeves makes sense because he reviews bags for a living. He knows what he is talki g about and he didn't brand the bag under his name. That way, it doesn't tue to Chase if he ever does something stupid. It's better thank P. McKinnon designing a bag cause let's face it, a person who's a YT star isn't gonna carry his bag for a long time.
    Good job Mr. Reeves.

    I'd love to see a video on how you pack out the Pakt bag. I saw the earlier videos and picked it up on Indiegogo. I dig the materials and pocket layouts... Maybe I'm packing my peak design packing cubes too full or something because I haven't quite found the sweet spot with the depth on both sides. I purchased the Pakt packing cubes, but really love the feel of the PD. I've ordered some other brands packing cubes too to try some alternatives. Fun fact: I realized that I have 3 out of the 6 Sexy Bags based on your reviews. Love the videos; Keep up the great work!

    I've had a Zpacks Arc Blast 55L backpack since 2017 (the forerunner of the Arc Air 50L and using the exact same materials and harness) . I've hiked with it lots using ultralight gear, but also taken it travelling on planes, buses, trains and boats in Europe, Canada, the USA and India, I even trekked Everest Base Camp with it. Despite some dodgy miles roped to the top of buses etc, it's holding up great! I would say that it's at its best when the total carried weight is under 35lb though, so that might be a caveat for some potential purchasers!

    • @adamw6343
      @adamw6343 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same. Me wants a simple (not overly organized), well-built bag with quality materials, that also looks great. Us non technophiles like good shit, too. It should be carry-on compliant without having to worry about "pushing" the rules and have the bulk of it's space fully available to it's main compartment. One taco pocket and one other easy access pocket on exterior. That's it! No laptop compartment, no admin (jeez Aer, what's with all the freakin' admin?), and no business papers, man! Keep me tech free. Can you tell I've been on the hunt for a bag that doesn't exist? I'm currently rocking a duffel with backpack straps that pretty much meets all this criteria. At 20x14x9 it delivers 40L of space! The problem is if I have to carry it fully loaded for longer than 30 minutes at a time, it starts to get uncomfortable. With normal travel, it's not a problem, but I have a trip coming up where I want to have a proper backpack (with a hip belt) that carries comfortably without looking like I'm going camping (sorry Osprey, you're out). I realize I have to make some allowances. A laptop compartment is pretty much unavoidable, and I can deal with having a little less capacity, but having to swallow all of the features I don't want in order to get a nice bag kinda sucks.

    The bag I love most right now is the Able Carry Max. It checks every box for me and is quite a perfect design. The Aer Duffel Pack 3 is tied if you’re only on a few day trip or just need the essentials.
    I’ve got the Aer Duffel 3 and would get the Able Carry Max if I were traveling a lot right now but I’m not so I’m getting the Cotopaxi Allpa 35 which is a nice bag that will be very cheap with the REI 20% discount and a gift card.
    Hoping that Aer updates the Travel Pack (3) to have a water bottle holder design thats similar to their Duffel Pack 3’s. The whole two panel midzip to a fugly mesh just looks really Avon/clunky. Id also like it if they made the compression straps removable - they are highly unnecessary on such a structured pack. If they made these changes it’d be my favorite.

    The Matador SEG42 is absolutely killer!
    It’s perfect for when you going all nice and tidy and organized in the beginning of the trip and you start throwing your dirty laundry to the back.
    Also the straps work great! I do not know how they do it, but they are very comfortable even 13kg on my back.
    The lack of structure is not noticeable when full, but if you use it a bit empties, a small frame sheet or cardboard does the trick.

    Chase love your style and use of language. Very entertaining. All of the packs shown are PANEL LOADING. How 'bout comparing top loader Red Oxx Lil Hombre, roll tops RELOAD and maybe some of the mil inspired Vanquest and MaxPedition. Panel loaders are just floppy, and opening 'em up is like spreading a sandwich apart and searching for the cheese or meat inside. Panel loaders are easy to pack or unload on a hotel bed, but not the best for field work. I know this is more about travel then hiking, but it might be good to compare other load carriers.

    Yeah some of these you certainly might be pushing it in Europe… but mostly on the economic airlines where your only allowed under-seat luggage… but most as you say just needs to be under the 56, 40 & 20cm some allow additional 5cm on the the two shorter sides but it’s safest not to get as some airlines don’t allow that big. The weight however is really the obstacle it only around 10kg sometimes as low as 7kg..

    I'm surprised heimplanet's updated Transit travel pack 2.0 didn't make it into the sexy bag category,
    In my mind it's very competitive with Aer but has some organizational features I generally prefer at the cost of a shoe compartment. @@liorajacob8094 I will say it can be a little small at times. I’ve had the series 1 for about 2 years now and I’ve taken it on a 7 day trip and that was my only bag. It worked very well and carried everything I needed. I did do laundry while I was there though so I didn’t take as much but it got the job done. I use it to go to and from college during school and has worked awesome for weekend travel and a daily carry for school. Very versatile. Packing cubes help a lot too. Some things of course could be better like that handle would be nice at times, I’m not a huge fan of the look (I like more outdoorsy/adventure), the second compartment meant for business papers… or tablet and such I wish was somewhat bigger, but overall it’s a good bag.

    Wow, the bag you helped design is really sexy, if we use these words though. I just love watching these videos even though I cannot a don't need to buy another one. But really nice job there! I actually wish I will be designing the backpack one day, happy for you that you did it!

    How about the Aer Capsule Max? Would that make the list? I know you've reviewed it before and it's my current travel backpack. Got the TB Techonaut 45 on order though so the Aer might be splitting time with the newbie. Great video as always Chase!

    Do all these bags ship flat in a crushed state or do some ship in a boxes? I noticed that some are more free standing like the Nomatics or Peak Design. Thanks.

      I travelled around Nepal,Cambodia and Vietnam with one a couple of years ago for 9months. Also the top access pocket is a godsend. Just a great bag I can’t recommend enough.

      @@petergrantlloyd6754 That’s fantastic to hear because I purchased the limited edition X-Pac version of it, along with the X-Pac version of the Aer Day Sling. I was starting to regret it because I keep hearing that 33L is not enough for extended trips, but your experience brings me hope. I was considering switching to the Peak Designs Travel Bag, but now I think I’ll stick with the Aer bag. Thank you Peter!

      Glad to help. The only thing I’d add now that if had been available then is this;
      www.aersf.com/go-pack-heathered-black
      As you can roll it up or lay it flat and put it in your pack. I use the city sling myself. I should be getting paid by them for this level of shill.

    I have a generic backpack presumably chinese made, it was handed out for free by the city workers union in sweden to its employees. It happens to be the most perfect backpack I ever used. can anyone PLEASE benchmark it just make the same one perhaps better materials. When I say it's PERFECT. small pocket at the top right by the back pretty much theft proof. water proof material at the bottom with a fold out raincover for the whole backpack. It's small but its square shape you can fit pretty much anything. Laptop space. stretchy side pockets. Damn I would easily pay over 150 bucks if it was for sale. I'll lend it out for free if someone can just make it

    Wow two round ups in one week? You must know what we love. Also THANK YOU for acknowledging Boundary's horrendous track record on delivery. Their customer service has unfortunately been just as bad which is infuriating when you just want to know where your damn bag is months after you've ordered it.

    I really, really considered the Pakt Backpack but… imo putting the laptop in the middle instead of against your back makes wearing any backpack feel heavier. Many backpack videos I’ve seen you do you’ve talked about how important having the laptop at the back of the bag is (or at least I think you’ve said that in the past). I get the placement with the Pakt duffle which I like a lot but in backpack mode moving it away from the back is a big miss. It’s a pity because the rest of the bag is boffo.

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The principle is: have the heaviest stuff closest to your back. Laptop in the middle doesn't change that much for me (first of all because it's the middle, not the front, and second of all because when I pack the rear section full of my clothes or tech it gets heavier than my laptop).
      The other thing going on here is the frame in the back panel. That does makes this even more of a non-issue since it distributes the weight across the back (and onto the hips most importantly).
