oh man i have probably learned more about color theory here than i have in my art classes (which is very dissappointing to me bc art school is expensive lol) Desaturating the colors when you mix them make so much sense bc when you mix certain colors of acryllic gouache together, it either goes brown or gray. whenever i color pick i tend to not desaturate my colors so they don't look natural, I'll definitely give your tip a try :D
Borodante Quote: "Using layers is good when you are defining colours that do not touch the shape, when defining shape, don't segregate any light", I love you Borodante and your videos are really really helpful!!! Thank you ^_^
Each day, create a checklist of everything you need to do. Add on to it when you feel necessary. It puts your goal pretty straightforward in front of you so it should help. Also make sure to schedual alarms on your phone in case you forget what to do easily! I actually set an alarm for everything on the 'checklist' every morning for a few months and it seemed to work very well. Some uncomprehendable brain stuff is supposed to go on where alarms work better than just a mental note.
So this video was super informative. I came for the layers explanation and left with that and a color theory tip. I will be browsing your other videos because you explained things so well.
Or just put a new layer on top in "normal" mode and paint away with bold brush strokes, but now you can erase them without erasing from the whole image.
Thanks for this video tutorial because you did cover some of the banes that I run into when I do layered work ..which is quite often. I always assumed that it was lack of skill on my end. Now, I know better. Thanks, man! Keep up the good work. 👍🍔
Огромное спасибо, было очень познавательно! Всегда задумывался над смешиванием цветов и это было для меня реальной проблемой. Слава переводчику, уловил суть! Thank you, it was great!
In all the videos I've seen from you, you never seem to use the 'Color Dodge' tool. Is there any reason why? I ask this because a quite popular artist that I watch on TH-cam [ Ross Draws ] loves to use a bit of color dodge to complete a piece, almost like a 'thing' for his videos where he cuts to an exciting "IT'S COLOR DODGE TIME!" near the closing of each video. What is your opinion on this? Is it because he usually draws with very vibrant, fictional-esc colors for details while I feel like you like more "realistic", slightly duller colors? Maybe it's just personal preference?
Archsider Arc It's true that he is a lot less informative in his videos and yeah, I don't learn much from him, but I just watch the videos because they are interesting. It's kind of like a speed-paint but he does incorporate some very interesting ideas.
The dodge tool makes thing look a little plastic, because it adds white to everything. Its usually a "rule" of thumb to never go for pure white lights and hilights. No control over the Hue, Saturation and Brightness of your color is a problem too... If you think about color space as dimensions, the Dodge tool only gives you one: Making things Brighter. But if you select your own highlight color, you can have 3 dimensions: Hue, Sat and Value. Its a well known painting trick to simply shuffle your colors around, to make it easier on the eye to read...
+Illusionaire1 Woayh, that was an interesting and informative comment, gonna keep that in mind the next time I draw something with light (dodge) and shadow (burn) =)
Yeah and you can duplicate the folders / layers first, then merge the original layers and paint on top of them, but you still have access to the separate layers.
Just in case he doesn't see this... yes. It's good to start with, and maybe even use for most of your art career. Of course it's good to test out many programs. You never know what works best for you. For me personally, Clip Studio Paint works best.
I'm no professional but in my opinion: yes I've played around with quite a few programs, I used to mainly use PaintTool SAI but slowly started transferring to Photoshop. It is just much more versatile. Many times, I will have to edit something drawn in SAI in Photoshop to complete it.
well I still stick with artrage the best digital art program in the market it reflects traditional art so freaking well it allows me to really just work on getting better at art and not worry about learning all the crazy program stuff like photoshop could never use it
the transition cut in the eyes seems a bit unrealistic more like a piece of paper because of the lack of volume on the skull bone form should had some transition even being small
It prevents his hand from smearing around the tablet and dirtying or damaging the screen. It's pretty necessary to have. He's answered this in one of the Q&A videos I believe. Imagine if you are doing a pencil drawing and you just smear your hand around the paper, about the same idea.
and what about if you do one layer only to represent sunshine and skylight ? can you make a video painting something in layers and another with no layers ?
Go out on a sunny day. You see a bright blue sky that illuminates everything and you will see the sun that is white/yellow. Together they are 2 light sources.
What program is this? also, can you put the program in all of your future descriptions and it's always frustrating when someone is teaching something and you, as the learner, don't know what the program is for future reference.
So basically: Work in layers for the rough lightning and shading, merge for further detailed work.
Pog

this guy is more useful than my art teacher XD XD
I’ve never seen anyone explain the lighting in such a way! Thank you so much!
HOW TO OVERCOME PROCASTINATION
Try and schedule your work time, where you will have nothing around you than the art.

I learn about a dozen new things on every one of your videos. Amazing stuff - thank you.

Ross drawz is overrated you won't learn anything useful

Man, you look so much better without hair
wow, really interesting process, and some excellent tips as you go through!
Nice tutorial, exactly what I needed!
Keep the vids like this coming. Thanks
very informative! this is exactly what I needed thank you.
Awesome!

My dude, i love your content but you gotta know.... you look way better with your head shaved, my man. You made the right move embracing your change
I... fuckin love this channel now. thank youuu
What a great video! Thanks man!
fun tutorial
this is so awesome. your perspective is very valuable
What about using smart objects? They are like merged layers, but you can still have your separate layers back if you need too
This works up until your client asks you to change the samurai's jacket to red instead of blue, then you'll be very happy you kept your layers
It's so easy to change any color on a flat image these days. Much much easier than working with a bunch of layers for an expressive art style
@@BoroCG in both cases you'd just create a layer above the original drawing set it to color and paint over it
Is Paint tool Sai a good program to start with? I would like get this advice from a professional such as you. I would really appreciate the advice.
i like your profil pic. Do you Like FNAF? I love it!!

Thank you so much for your advice!
Can you tell me what opacity level you were using here? Do you use pen pressure opacity? Was it 100% all the time or you were blending all the time?
Olexandr Pospishniy the brush chainges opacity with pen pressure
This is so damn helpful
So... Adding details in one layer, shadows in multiple?
well I still stick with artrage the best digital art program in the market it reflects traditional art so freaking well it allows me to really just work on getting better at art and not worry about learning all the crazy program stuff like photoshop could never use it
Hey can someone link that guy Aleksandr's portfolio? I cant find it.
Can someone explain how others paint, but it doesn't go over the line?
the transition cut in the eyes seems a bit unrealistic more like a piece of paper because of the lack of volume on the skull bone form should had some transition even being small
Hi.!!! where i can found Coolorus 2.5?
Did you find ?
Hi
This was like 9 months ago.. he looks so fetus. That doesn't make sense at all, but he looks like a fetus borodante. Squishy :3
somehow i feel comfortable with 1 layer tho,
i luv art, but i still don't understand the purpose of the 2 fingered glove

+Cindy Li thx
It's also to decrease the friction between the artist's hand and the screen they're working with. This of course leads to smoother had movements.
when borodante had hairs
and what about if you do one layer only to represent sunshine and skylight ? can you make a video painting something in layers and another with no layers ?
What in the hell is the difference between sunlight and 'sky light'?
Go out on a sunny day. You see a bright blue sky that illuminates everything and you will see the sun that is white/yellow. Together they are 2 light sources.
Микрофон периодически булькает :(
