    I remember Andre Waters but I was only 11 y/o when this took place. Just did a search and am not surprised he was a victim of CTE. Sucks for him and his family but damn he lead with his helmet a lot and at the end of plays when the player was already down.

      I agree 100% and I'm an Eagles fan the Eagles might have won this night but in the end the Cowboys won when it mattered most in the playoffs and won the Super Bowl that year. Same thing with the body bag game in 1990 against the Washington Redskins, the Eagles talked all that junk after that monday night game. but then came playoff time two months later the Redskins came back to Philadelphia and kicked the Eagles ass when it mattered most.

      I can. 3 things never had a good offensive line , Randall Cunningham choked in big games, and the biggest one of all. coaching. Buddy Ryan and Rich kotite were terrible head coaches especially when the NFC East had Joe Gibbs Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. That Eagles team from the late 80s to early 90s was very overrated. And im an Eagles fan. But I keep it real and look at things objectively, that Eagles team wasn't even close to a Superbowl

    IMO I think they should have kept Buddy, FIRED THIS COACH as the Off Coordinator, put a new smart WINNER NOT A DAMN JET! Get someone from the Niners Or the Damn Giants, maybe you get some of Parcells secrets. God that GM Gamble was awful. Buddy built a defense that was world class, he needed offensive help. Kotite is winning with Buddys team, that Buddy built. And as years go on 11-5 to 8-8 to 7-9 to PEACE To Ray Rhodes, to WTF! Buddy took a 6-9-1 joke of a team in 86 to VG 88 to Elite by 89-90, and the defense was set. I loved this era of Eagles FB, Had they kept Buddy, I wonder what would have happened had he handed offensive duties over to a great OC, like doug did with Jim Schwartz in 2017. And Buddy went with Bud Carson. They needed offense, 25 points put up by Randall in all 3 games with Buddy as HC, while the Def is holding them to managable numbers yet they couldnt score. You dont fire the def mastermind, you bring in Off help.

    • @johnnolan33177
      @johnnolan33177 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Underground Guy nhBuddy took that 1986 attrocity to playoff team every year. Why in the world fire a coach who takes you from a team who hasnt made the playoffs in 8 years, builds a top 4 defense in history, and hire THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR THAT WAS THE PROBLEM, THE OFFENSE COULDNT SCORE IN THE PLAYOFFS. Either get a new QB or a new OC. Buddy was the defensive mind, they needed one that wasnt working out. THE OC WAS RICH KOTITE, no he was perfect for the job. He didnt work out, get a new one. And if you new ANYTHING the ENTIRE DEFENSE was livid, and Reggie White left. Well worth it, the team didnt recover until Andy Reid was hired, other than the playoff team that Kotite took over that went 10-6 with Buddys team, and that Ray Rhodes was able to get in, the WHOLE REST OF THE DECADE ws 3-13, 5-11, 3-13, 6-10. But playoffs every year was a problem for some people. I guess an upgrade to offense, when your D is the best in football is too much to overcome. GOTTA START OVER. Thats why the team was sold in 3 years.

      @Underground Guy You hit the nail on the head. Maybe the reason buddy did not get a head job sooner was because of his lack of interest in offense.

    • @dcoopthemann
      @dcoopthemann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Underground Guy
      I AGREE 100%!
      I grew up in Philly as a Cowboys fan and I remember this game - and the whole ERA - like it was yesterday!
      I read an article after this game where Emmitt Smith said, the Cowboys (and I) KNEW the Eagles were DONE after this game, because they were WAY TOO IMPRESSED WITH THEMSELVES, and at the HEAD OF THE LINE was Ryan!
      MANY, MANY TIMES I would hear from Eagles fans, I don't care if we go 2 - 14 - EVERY YEAR - as long as the 2 WINS are against the Cowboys!
      SMFH.
      I would say, you do know beating the Cowboys twice a year, every year, doesn't get you a Super Bowl trophy, don't you?
      Those FOOLS didn't even care, as long as they beat Dallas!
      SMFH.
      Yeah, Buddy could inspire his players, especially on defense, but he didn't care anything about offense AT ALL - it the rest of the team!
      As a HEAD COACH, the whole team is your RESPONSIBILITY!
      But Ryan - and his two sons - especially Rex (just look at Rex's coaching career "WITHOUT" Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, etc, and what has he done) - are MASTERS of talking a BIG GAME, but when you get right down to it, they're not really good - AT ALL!
      But in Philly, especially during this ERA, that was good enough to FLEECE the fans and the city - and LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK!
      Ryan was, and should've stayed a defensive coordinator ONLY, but even that was going to come to an eventual end, 'cause offenses were evolving, making his 4 - 6 defense a thing of the past!
      And it's not like he was GOOD / GREAT at making "ADJUSTMENTS!"
      A couple of years ago, I picked and wanted the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl just because of how the Eagles fans treated Andy Reid!
      He was a GOOD / GREAT coach, that just didn't get them "OVER THE HUMP" with his time there, but he was WAY MORE SUCCESSFUL than Ryan, but they talk about Reid like a DOG!
      I've even had Eagles fans tell me, they never liked him, 'cause he's a MORMON!
      WHAT?
      SMFH.
      what does a coaches religion have to do with his coating?
      SMFH.

    30 years later and this game still makes me mad. This and having to look at Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid smile at each other while they spanked our asses for a decade are both reasons why I despise Philly. One thing tho, the 90's and early 2000's Eagles defenses were dangerous. Buddy Ryan, Reggie White, Joyner, Simmons, Eric Allen, Jerome Brown, Jim Johnson, and Brian Dawkins. Having to hear those names twice a year for decades sure made for some exciting football games. That being said, F*** the Eagles.

    This was the last time the Eagles would dominate the Cowboys in a game like this in the 90's until Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb came in and put the hurt on the Cowboys in the 2000's. The Cowboys would not lose again to the Eagles until December of 1995. The Cowboys would win the other game in Texas Stadium, destroy the Eagles in the divisional round, and then win the first of the 3 out of the 4 years with a Super Bowl title. The Eagles on the other hand would lose Reggie White and other defensive players to free agency. Randall would break his leg in 93 and the team tanked and missed the playoffs and then tanked again after staring out 6-2 and Rich Kotite would lose his job after the 94 season.

    I Get angrier as the years go on how Harry Gamble handled the Eagles situation, the Buddy Ryan built Eagles and fire him because of a couple playoff losses THAT THE OFFENSE couldnt score. But they were crap before Buddy got here, Incredible. KC wouldnt have the SB had they fired Andy Reid like that. Kotite inherits the team Buddy built, and oh add Bud Carson. Yet IT WAS HIS OFFENSE that couldnt score in the playoffs, and his offense that kept getting worse, it was the DEFENSE that won this game. Buddys defense and credit Bud Carson as well. So annoying this championship defense has been here for years, and they opt to overlook that aspect, fire the man who built it and bring in the guy who was leading the Offense The OC, who couldnt score in the playoffs as the HC.Norman Braman moron, and so was Gamble. Pay Keith Jackson. Keep Buddy, Pay Reggie White. He left after Kotite started bringing the team down. He never leaves Buddys defenses, as long as they make the playoffs every year. he wanted a title, a winner. Like Parcells said, all you have to do is get to the tournament, and anything can happen. I really wish Lurie Bought the team 5 years earlier.

    Almost the worst possible way to start a game for Dallas. First down, Aikman is called for intentional grounding and the down is lost. Second down, Emmitt Smith gets trapped for no gain. It's pretty sad and pathetic when it's fun in October , the only time it was fun as an Eagles fan is when they won Super Bowl 52.

      @@johndolejsch5102 nah, if the only fun moment was winning a super bowl then the fans of 31 teams are just wasting their time taking any interest. Especially for teams that go through a period of years of losing, being a contender is fun imo. It was a lot of fun watching the Browns beat the Steelers Even though the Browns didn't win the super bowl

      Erik got away with a lot to be fair, he was pretty edgy and borderline dirty most of the time. He didn't really have a great skill set but he was strong af and undercut guys a lot on outside running plays, watched him play in Dallas many times. After his car wreck he was never the same guy again though

    Cowboys came of age over the next 3 weeks against chiefs, seahawks, and eagles again later and whipped the eagles 2 (20-10 & 34-10 in the playoffs) more times that year on their way to Lombardi for the 3rd time something the Eagles were 27 years away from doing for the first time

      Yup. Crazy to think it’s now been 27 years since the Cowboys have been relevant
