      I Googled the following link for you: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroplating. I suggest that you investigate the topic online and then consult with a supplier in your area who can help you to safely set up a plating system. Good luck!

    Very cool!
    I also was wondering if it's possible to plate jewelry without involving nickel. Have you by chance learned anything on that score since you posted the video?
    Also, do you have a video showing how you made this lovely piece in the first place?

      Hey Wendyannh, Professional metal platers, like Mr. Vogel, nickel plate items to prevent the internal metal from causing eruptions of the parent metal on the surface of a piece. If you're willing to take the risk of the plating not lasting as long as you might like, I'm sure you can get a plating service to skip the nickel layer on your piece.
      If you visit the OJA's website at: www.onlinejewelryacademy.com you will find a section in our video playlist on metal forming.

    Well... Voltage and used chemicals (with concentration) would be quite useful.

    Can you do costume jewelry?

    • @OnlineJewelryAcademy
      @OnlineJewelryAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of the techniques demonstrated on the OJA's channel can be applied to the production of "costume" jewelry. We do not, however, explore techniques that employ the casting of white metals.

      You can find plenty of information on electro plating online or in jewelry books. Thanks for watching. 😀

    How much would THAT piece cost to do

      Hi Gabby, Kenny Vogal of Cal-Mart Plating provided the plating service on the necklace free of charge for the video. You would have to get an estimate from your local plater. Sorry I can provide you with more information.

    I hate any fake jewelry that's plated. I purchased so called hammered sterling silver earring set from an Ebay auction which later revealed copper base. I couldn't even return it since I found this quite some time later.

      Well Jane, it sounds like the came to the right place. The OJA can provide you with the knowledge that you need to make your own high quality jewelry. I guarantee that if you do it yourself, you'll never feel the disappointment of having purchased fake silver jewelry ever again.
      Welcome to our corner of TH-cam. : )

      OnlineJewelryAcademy: Thanks for your kind comment! I'm impressed by your kind comment. I think I'm lucky to find your videos as a silver-lover and collector. Maybe I should set up my own silversmith workshop, but still I'm not interested in plating metals. It's very interesting to see the silver-plating process though!
      Also, I'm really thankful for your kind videos about silversmithing. I'm looking for ways to add values to my silver collection by adding solid gold pieces, not plating or attaching gold foils. Let me look for such videos teaching how to do that.
      Korean jewelry makers do not share their technic like YOU since they want to keep their skills as "best-kept secret". Lol
