Hey Wendyannh, Professional metal platers, like Mr. Vogel, nickel plate items to prevent the internal metal from causing eruptions of the parent metal on the surface of a piece. If you're willing to take the risk of the plating not lasting as long as you might like, I'm sure you can get a plating service to skip the nickel layer on your piece. I hate any fake jewelry that's plated. I purchased so called hammered sterling silver earring set from an Ebay auction which later revealed copper base. I couldn't even return it since I found this quite some time later.
