Giant Loop Gas Bag Review + Gas Bag vs Rotopax. Dual Sport/Adventure Bike Fuel Range EXTENDED!

  • Looking for a convenient, rugged, and versatile way to extend the fuel range of your dual sport, adventure motorcycle, quad, side by side, or other off road vehicle? The Giant Loop Gas Bag is an innovative and durable way to carry extra gas with you when you're in the backcountry. These individually-tested, collapsible welded film and ballistic nylon covered containers provide lots of flexibility (literally) and versatility. Strap one to your rear rack, cargo area, or even your back and have spare gasoline ready to go whenever you need it.
A Rotopax setup is a popular choice for these types of applications, but in the battle of Rotopax vs Gas Bag, the Giant Loop Gas Bag has a few distinct advantages, namely packability, lighter weight, and the option to use it with multiple vehicles without having to buy additional mounts.
I hope you enjoy my Giant Loop Gas Bag review! If you're interested in learning more, please check out the links below! Don't forget to enter the contest to win yourself a free one gallon Gas Bag from Giant Loop!

I've enjoyed your channel for a few years now....and though I was leaning towards a CRF300L which wasn't available at the time, a 24 KLX300 magically appeared in a stunning gray. Spent my 71st Birthday riding with my son and his 3 brother in laws and got my first taste of DIRT BIKE riding! I've since hooked up with another local fella and we're riding all the trails we can find... which brings me how to this video, and I truly appreciate your point of view on, since the tank of the KLX is only 2.1 gallons and I get between 80-100 mpg before the gas light comes on. I'm just used your link to save 10% on a 1 gallon bag which now includes the funnel and has a cool flap that protects it when it's not in use....THANK YOU for my $18.75 savings!

Thanks for the review. I just read my second news article saying that gas may be scarce this summer, just in time for my cross-country trip. So I’m shopping for an emergency-fuel-stash solution. The rotopax won’t work for me, and the Giant Loop seems like a good, if very expensive, solution. Thanks again.

  • @RichardT2112
    @RichardT2112 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

For the price, I can grab 3 rotopax of the same size. Yes, mounting and removal is easier to but I simply can not justify the cost vs a rotopax. Tying to one’s body is terrifying ... you take a spill and risk being showered in lovely cool ignitable fuel.
I like the idea, but rotopax will be my go to solution.
    Good review none the less.

I feel like you'd have to fall very hard on a very sharp rock to puncture this thing, and if you hit something that sharp that hard you'd have more pressing issues to deal with. I personally wouldn't wear it on my person, but I guess it's an option for any potential Human Torches out there.

Dork in the Road FLAME ON! 😆 - to be honest having thought of it since I replied, they may be nice for portable or emergency fuel storage. What I dislike of the rotopax is the fact they are so visible, and up here in Canada, the cost of fuel being $6/gallon, they invite people to “come grab me” where
As the subdued colour scheme of the bladder gives it a more water-carrier look, and can be stored away as you had mentioned when not I use (unlike a rotopax). The cost however (at $200CND vs a blemished rotopax for $50) is just way too much.

This is definitely on my list if I don’t win. The versatility seems great. Love that you can roll it up and tuck it away when empty. That’s what has kept me on the fence about using a rotopax while trying to keep cargo to a minimum on an extended trip.

They are very nice for my boat. I have very limited room for anything (26ft). When I make a crossing of the Gulf Stream, I fill them up (2x5gal) (need 2 more). When I get to my destination and don't need so much fuel, I can roll them up and put them away in the anchor locker. Then, I don't have 4 empty/bulky 5-gallon fuel cans sitting on my deck! They do have a few great uses for bags vs. cans.

Just caught your video, I know I'm a year late, getting ready to ship my bike to the mainland, plan on four months on dirt roads, and was interested in the bag. I also ride a 2014 CRF 250L, if your only getting 50 miles per gallon, somethings wrong with your bike, you should be getting closer to 70 mpg. Even when I'm riding hard I've never gotten less than 66mpg, and thats with paniers, windscreen, crash bars, and now a top box. I'm currently running 65 extra pounds besides weifging 180lbs, plus twenty pound of riding gear, boots, armor, helmit, jacket, and paints. Check that air filter first.

Would have liked to see a more in depth review of using the bag to fill the tank. I read many reviews good and not so good so it was hard to decide on a bag or a roto pack. I was torn on the roto or the bag. Went with the roto 1 gal because most of the problems with the bag are around spilling gas trying to fill the bike. The 1 gal fits in a backpack and comes with a spout. The other issue is trying to keep from smelling like gas after using the bag. You really need something to put it in to keep it contained and away from other gear. Need to carry a plastic bag of some kind to put it in. I have a small tank on my road bike and like to ride out toward Eastern Oregon so fuel stops can be a problem. When I get a sissy bar I may go to the bag which I can hang on the sissy bar and it will look like camping gear so we will see.

I really want to thank you for still being straight with me about the drawbacks despite the implied slight sponsorship. Still thinking about a rotopac inside the pannier rack. But 2 30oz msr bottles will give me like 20-25 miles of emergency range on the old drz.

Dude, I thought you were going to say it cost only $29.99. You say that a complete new tank is expensive and complicated?...Yes it is prolly $250 for a 3.5 or even a 4.5 gallon tank. Complicated? Not really. Pretty easy to install actually...it takes maybe an hour and very basic tools. So I thought, hmmm ok $250 for a new tank might seem expensive. But "Top Heavy?" No, No, No it's not! Keep in mind TWENTY miles from your house it's already getting lighter...and so on. Then you said $150.00 for a one gallon bag...choke, cough, eyes watering....ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME? That is ridiculous! Get a new tank dude! IMS, or Clarke make great tanks and you never have to mess with that dumb strap on gooloshing bag. You keep saying "versatility" for your side by side or boat, or truck...for all of these I have 1, 2, and 5 gallon cans already in my garage. Guys who use Rotopaks have already got the larger tank. This review is ludicrous. Why would you ever want to deal with a bag?...#1, to deal with having to strap it on for each ride? (You say the bags are not designed for longer term storage just fill it up before you leave...(having to hold it with one hand and getting help from the gas station attendant.) #2 Then it takes up valuable real estate on the back of your bike...#3 you have to unleash it from your bike. #4 then you have to get out the $11.00 filler neck and attach it to the bag. #5 Then you have to awkwardly pour it into your TANK. And risk spilling it all over yourself, your bike, the ground...(you showed us this happens...and if you do then deal with the smell the rest of the day. #6 then you have to roll up the potentially nauseous smelling bag and take off your back pack, or at least open your pannier bag and stow it away again taking up MORE VALUABLE SPACE. Everytime you have to stop and do this you risk forgetting to close the bag and then risk loosing other valuable equipment. Nothing in your review makes any sense...hence "Dork in the Road?" Is this all a joke?

@@DorkintheRoad I have a Clarke 4.3 Gallon Tank on my XR650R. I know it doesn't get close to the mileage you get with the 250 you ride. I've never used quite that much (4.3 gals) on one ride. Close in Baja one time. I do have a 20oz MSR fuel cell that I bought just in case; but I've never bothered carrying it. Another fuel tank hack is to buy some VP fuel for your chainsaw or weedeater. VP fuel comes in a 1 quart can with a resealable cap. Use it up and then use it for the Dual Sport. Hell just buy one for your Dual Sport...its pure Non Ethanal Gasoline with the additives you need for long term storage. $150 for that bag is just insane. Dont worry, I like your riding vids but your reviews not so much. Keep em coming...I did watch the whole thing. That's my Review of your Review. And "No"; I won't be buying a $150 bag.
