Had a mountain lion come into our fenced yard and attacked our cat. Our cat lived but gets his eye removed tomorrow. I'm taking the test online to get my certificate to hunt mountain lions. When I get one I will make a blanket out of one for my kitty

I’ve never been hunting so sorry if this question comes off as ignorant, but why was this hunt done? Was the cat known to have attacked a human previous, or are they populated in your area that they’re allowing tags to hunt them? And do you eat the meat of the cat, or is it generally discarded? Genuine questions, would appreciate if an experienced hunter can give me insights.
A lot of times people call professionals to get rid of them because they own cattle or have kids
Predator management plays a crucial part in a healthy balance. They do sell over the counter tags to hunt mountain lions in Idaho. As far as meat consumption goes, I would say it is probably around 50 %. Mountain lion meat is actually very good. One thing to look out for is trichinosis, similar to a bear. If the meat is not cooked to the proper temperature, it can make you very sick.

It’s a large and beautiful creature. However if an overpopulation happens, then campers and homesteaders stand a greater chance of being hurt or killed. And a mtn. Lion will attack, seriously injuring or killing a human, if the opportunity presents itself.

Now how does one go about training these things to protect property? Imagine having 4 mountain lions backing you up if shit hit the fan. Or if an intruder came into your home the lions could just take care of it, no need to get out of bed.

I can't help but feel a little bad for the mountain lion. I'm not one of those bleeding hearts who's going to tell you you're a bad person for hunting, but it's just sad to see an animal that was doing a good job surviving go down like that. Hunting for most of the animal kingdom means going after old or sick individuals, but because we have guns even animals in their prime are fairly easy targets. It's just the way things are, I suppose.
Calling him bad for hunting won't make you a bleeding heart.
He should stop hunting not cause it's immoral, but because it hurts the ecosystem and drives species to extinction
@@yourdonkeysowrong5987 thats is where your wrong. hunting and trapping helps create a good balance for the ecosystem and promotes a better way for it to happen in the animal species. if there is no hunting or trapping then the populations will be boom and the increase of disease becomes greater and then could possibly wipe out whole herds or groups of animals. we see it here all the time. im pretty sure the animal rather be taken fast and humanely rather then suffering of disease.....
@@gatien33 uhh... nature does not need man (only really when we messed up earlier arleady) don't you know that cougars existed for several million years before our species even begun. And cougars have not hunted all herbivors. And their prey aren't sitting ducks waiting for humans to save them, no they are wild beasts with hooves and antlers and horns, who can take care of themselves. So the cougar usually goes for the young or sick ones wich would have died later anyways. We will create a problem by killing cougars wich are arleady having a hard time from nature. When they go extinct herbivors will explode in population. And when they destroy all vegetation they will go after our crops wich means now we will be forced to hunt... *sigh*

I myself am a hunter and I hope to hunt lion too one day. I'd like to offer a little feedback to help the tree huggers hate us hunters a bit less. I think a quick blurb in the beginning about regulations and herd management will help non hunters to understand that predator hunting is both legal and necessary. And then at the end express a little gratitude for what the animal will provide for you and your family. If all you do is celebrate and let your dogs naw on the lion I can see how the tree huggers can continue to oppose and fight us. Just my 2 cents, congrats on a magnificent animal.

@@raminemohebbi6529 we aren't talking poaching here. We are discussing lawful hunting per each states laws and regulations. If a state deems mountain lion hunting illegal, then so be it. If a state deems legal, then hunters serve the state by paying fees and helping to meet population goals. Period. In the real world it takes money to ensure conservation of animals and that is what hunters provide when they pay fees.

Absolutely no reason to make kill on an amazing tom like this unless it's a problem animal that's sick or habitually taking out livestock. Even then it should be regulated for the fish and game wardens to terminate such problem animals and not allow a bunch of dogs to run it up a tree so someone can walk up and shoot it. Im all for hunting all types of big game but never been able to justify killing a predator. Sad

I will never understand those, who does hunting for sport or hobby. In a modern society it is crucial to keep the wild life diversity, because humankind brought to extinct many species. I perfectly understand when hunting is done due to necessity of food, or if your neighborhood is in danger because wolves or mt lions killed your living stock or even worse a human. But it is rare thing to happen nowadays, since most people live in cities. I honestly do not know who is worse, poachers or hunters "for fun". In my opinion both lack some brain cells, and in both cases reasons to hunt do not represent a decent human being. Some people really deserve a place in a bio reactor to do a "something" good for society.

5 to 8 dogs are good to hunt with depending on what your hunting, about 6 to 11 month training is good to consider.
I don’t know why they would do that if the Big cat is not hurting you you shouldn’t be just going out and shooting cougars they are struggling in America and you have to go out and kill these poor animals Sure they are dangerous but they are not bothering you and they are not killing anybody or killing any animals you shouldn’t shoot them
Michael Wells I do appreciate your thoughts. Predator management plays a very important part for a healthy ecosystem. We do not harvest animals for the “thrill” of it solely. We try to be very calculated with how we approach taking prey vs predator. I respect mountain lions and all predators. We have let many walk to live and see another day. I know this video doesn’t showcase that like I’d prefer, but it’s important to me that you understand our position.
Clearly this is one single minded dude. Hurting isnt just for pleasure Mr. Wells. Do your research before you start making accusations and bold statements. Especially when your talking about someones character that you do not know.

@@ButchElrod also other commends have mentioned, when the hunt took place in Idaho, in the location (I’ll try and find one of the comments so I can copy and paste it for you) it’s mentioned you are allowed up to 1 lion with high powered rifle two people max with no dogs hunting, and had to call the game commission as soon as possible. We don’t know if they called, I’d assume they did, but hunting with dogs was illegal as stated because of the danger to the dogs that a mountain lion presents. Also it is only allowed for 6+ year olds, which this one looked like an adolescent, I’m pretty sure others pointed it out as well. Hope that clarifies anything!

The dogs do all the work and you shoot a 170 pound cat out of a tree with a high powered rifle I love to shoot and hunt and have nothing against hunting but looks to me like a rich boy game . Shooting a rabbit with iron sights 100 yards away is more of a challenge.
It’s not necessarily a rich man’s game. This wasn’t a guided hunt. The dogs are the real hunters. A lot of time and effort goes into the dogs. I agree with you about the lack of skill it takes to pull the trigger. Its all about the dogs and how you handle them
