Thank you for your video, as I see it, you are the only video on the subject of using the NC as an interface. If I could make a suggestion, you should demonstrate using the Nano Cortex as the SOLE in and out of audio. People will have their guitar plugged in, and their monitors plugged into the NC. As well, 2 questions. #1- in passing you mention you are using a TRS cable from your guitar, is that necessary? Is that how you access the other inputs as they are "virtual"? #2- if you want the processed sound of the NC, you need to be using the Output 1L, if so...how are hearing what you are playing if you have monitors plugged into you NC using the Output 1L and 1R. I am not grasping how physical inputs and outputs are being used when an output (1L) is being used as an input.... thanks
Thank you for the comment! For question number one, I just happened to have a TRS cable near me during the video. Since I wasn't using an active pickup guitar at the time, it is fine. If you are using a guitar with a preamp/active pickups, you would want to stick with a standard instrument patch cable. Accessing the multiple multiple virtual interfaces purely has to do with the nano cortex being recognized as an audio interface by your computer. The channels are all presented to your device/DAW. As for your second question, I have nothing physically plugged into the outputs of the nano cortex in this video. What I am hearing in the room is the audio from the virtual channels (3/4), which represent the output you would hear on the physical outputs (1/2). That same audio is what I am piping to the video in order for you to hear the examples. So if you wanted to physically recreate what I've got going, you would simply plug your monitors/frfr speakers into the outputs of the cortex. Does that help to clear things up?

In my opinion, reaper (or any DAW) would be the most straightforward. You have room then to use other backing / click tracks in sync as well.
Hi Gary, nice video, hows the audio quality when you record the clean , crunch and high gain tones? Is it similar if i record guitar and apply neural dsp/amplitube afterwards? Reason m asking, i had one or two pedals n amps with usb out, but when i try to record i hear clicks, pops and the sounds are not usable in a professional song. What about NC in this regard?
You're welcome! The audio interface quality of the Nano Cortex is great. As long as you have a clean signal going into the device, there are no artifacts. You can certainly re-amp as well. Capturing the DI and playing it back as a source through other plugins, or even sending the audio back out to the NC, then recording the results.
In my example no. I am using the Nano Cortex as an audio interface. That allows me to control the levels from the DAW, without interacting with the knobs on the Nano Cortex. You can certainly use the level knob to boost gain, if you aren't using the NC as an audio interface, though.
Bassist here, i want to replace my focusrite interface with the Nano Cortex. I use Logic Pro X.. So all i need to do is just plug it into the Mac, and im all good to go? My setup would be Bass>Strobostomp tuner>Nano Cortex>Headrush frfr-112 mk2 I wanna integrate my macbook with my setup when i do jam practices, so i was curious what would you do. I did watch the video, not sure if im what asking or what im playing changes things 😅

You are! The Nano Cortex is an audio interface, so either use your DAW with audio, or set the Nano as your default sound device and it will play through your outputs.
The manual says While connecting Nano Cortex to USB-A ports will allow for data transmission, these ports will not provide sufficient power to fully operate the device. Using USB-A ports or non-compliant USB hubs may result in improper functionality. Always verify that the USB-C source meets these requirements to maintain the longevity and reliability of your device So will it work with power cord and usb-c to usb a without problems? In older Mac computers?
As long as the USB power output is 5v-1.5amp, it doesn't matter if you are using USB-A or USB-C. The primary reason for the disclaimer is ensuring that the proper power is present, if you plan to power the device using USB.
Hey Gary, is there a reason I’m not seeing inputs 3/4 on my DAW I/Os? It only recognizes inputs 1/2 both as mono and stereo, and outputs 1/2. However it won’t let me select outputs 1/2 it just greys out the boxes when I select them.
I see you mentioned installing the ASIO driver, can you confirm you have rebooted after installing? Also can you confirm what your settings are under Preferences-> Audio Setup? Your "Recording Device" should be set to "Nano Cortex", and your "Playback Device" should be set to whatever device your outputs are located on.

I can hear the monitor signal when it’s armed to record but it is only the DI. I’ll boot everything back up when I’m home and double check

I can change playback and recording for the computer itself just fine. I tried making the computer inputs 3+4 but that results in recorded tracks being blank because the DAW still only shows 1+2 😅 I tried reaper as well and it’s giving me the same issue. I’ve tried updating every driver on the computer to no avail and updated both DAWs to current.
I want to replace my Moto audio interface with this. I current use a live daw Cantabile for the routing and guitar emulations. But I also play midi synth through it so an it just provide Asio output. On top of that I use Midi Guitar Vst based on the guitar DI and output synth. Do you think its up to the task? Or do I have to buy one and return if its lacking. Thx
It sounds like you mainly just need to capture standard dry(DI) and wet(processed) guitar. Then use your DAW to use the triggers from the input. If the above is correct, I think the nano will be fine. It doesn't offer as many inputs, if your needs expand to multiple inputs at once. I will put it this way. I am not getting rid of my Motu M6. I do appreciate using it as a native AI though.
If you are referring to sound from the physical outputs, the only real way I have found is by turning the level all the way down while using the audio interface.

Has a switch to mute direct monitoring, went with the nano in the end because of the terrible noise and bugs in the kemper software. I reached out to the support, when you activate the tuner, it mutes the processed Signal but DI is still sent to the DAW, which makes it „just an interface“. Not exactly a „Direct Monitoring off“ option but still a way to fiddle with plugins at home without hearing the processed signal. My original Intention was to record DI an processed at the same time while monitoring through the DAW with EQ etc., and with the Output of the Nano you of course hear 2 Guitars with different latencies that way.
Will it work with iPhone? I need to play my music and metronome while practicing but I can’t find the answer absolutely nowhere. I don’t want to carry my mac/PC with me. Thank you!
@@GaryWrightMusic Thank you so much Gary! It makes it useless for me as a travel practice device, where I would like to take just my headphones, nanocortex, smartphone with me. If I need to take my laptop- I can use any audio interface and use any of their plugins, having tons of options. Sad!
@@maciejka1903it will work with iPhone. Look up the manual for the Nano, go to the computer integration tab and then the host monitoring tab in that section. You can use the USB-C to connect from the nano to your phone if you have an IPhone 15 or newer. Or you can use an Apple Lighting to USB-C Camera Adapter for iPhone 14 and older. The phone will recognize the Nano as an external microphone device and you can use it in GarageBand to record and possibly other audio apps. :)

Are you using the Nano's input knob to control the level to Logic? I couldn't see any signal on the knob

That's it! Just plug the usb-c cable into the Mac and go. Your daw will recognize the different USB channels, as I mentioned in the series.

Yes! Exactly correct. You can record input 1, which is your input DI on the Nano. Then use that exact method to re-amp back again.
Are you able to play audio (mp3 or backing track) via the usb connection. For example play along to music from your music library?

Unfortunately, the only available signal is stereo. Depending on your configuration, it can still play mono. You could even hard pan left or right.

Using Presonus Studio One on Windows. I installed the driver as well.

Unfortunately, no. You can only stream audio to the Nano Cortex by using it as an audio interface. Using USB-C via Mac/PC.
