Thx! For the clarity very helpful! What's the advantage of using the adaptive gate after the amp/cab block with the sidechain feature rather than not sidechain option ? Is it the same as using the adaptive gate block @ the beginning of the signal as a stand alone block to quiet the signal? Thank you!
Thank you, and great question! Depending on the situation, this can help tighten up the dry mix. I find it sometimes helps to remove pick scrape without clamping the signal as hard as at the beginning of the chain.
Great info!! Ty
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Can you leave the "Doubler" on in the Soldano X VST when capturing dude?
Nope. It won't be captured correctly, unfortunately.
@GaryWrightMusic - Thanks for coming back to me. I suppose you could enable it in your DAW if you were playing to backings and disable everything else in the SLO Sim whilst using the nano for Amp/Cab and effects and record that way. Sounds decent with the Andy James Plugin and then frees up a ton of CPU this way too if I just use a capture instead of 2 Amp Sims in my DAW.
How are you doing four cable method …does nano have effects loop ..I have fm3 and axefx ..like give this idea a shot..I have the the big boy quad cortex and love my omega captures ..like to use a Nano with one of my fractals ..but the effects loop thing is tripping me out ..thanks fir this vid and any help sir
I actually made a video outlining the method here! th-cam.com/video/PnlxQcuQ1rE/w-d-xo.html The Nano Cortex doesn't have an effects loop unfortunately, and it also has a fixed signal chain. So, this method makes use of the VP4 and it's split path signal chain capabilities.
Good video...thanks!
Glad you liked it! 🙏🏻

@@GaryWrightMusic You should be. You create great content !!
are you using one of the outputs on your interface in the back? or the headphone out?
Hey Jon, see the video around the 1:24 mark to see the wiring diagram for the scenario.
@ thanks Gary!
The arrow is pointing to the headphone out, although the commentary says to use the output at the rear where you would plug into a monitor. Might be worth pinning that.
this just changed EVERYTHING ! <3
Glad you found it helpful!
Congratulations! Went to my first Rammstein show in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, it was an experience. I hope you have better luck with the Kemper than I did. Sold mine after years of messing with it and bought the QA. Best decision for me personally.
Awesome! The Mexico shows have looked incredible from video I have seen. I don't believe I'll be making any transitions to using it exclusively. Although, the profilers capabilities of accurate, dynamic captures are very evident. The mess dual recto I used in this video was spot on. The rest of the features are just way to clunky and dated for me by today's standards. #spoiled
@GaryWrightMusic Being that it was from their shows did it come with their tones as presets on the device?
@@johncarter1852 what’s QA?
@bysykler4959 Sorry I ment Quad Cortex.
Unfortunately, they wiped the device before selling it. So, all of my demos are patches I created. Mainly looking at rig rundowns as a guide and tuning to suit.

Hey Gary. What are your favorite neural captures on the cortex cloud? I would love to try them out. Thanks!
My absolute favorite neural capture is a pay to download capture from Jon over at SDS, of the Lichtlaerm Audio Prometheus. It is one of the best modern metal amps today, IMHO. ko-fi.com/s/4c9f089c53 Here is a list of a few others that are available free on the Neural Cloud that I feel are great too! @@GaryWrightMusic Awesome! I'll try them out for sure. Thank you for being a great guy for us Nano Cortex users!
So I have a question. I use 4 cable with a GT1000, and it does fine, I guess. What would the difference be if I do 3 cable? Guitar to GT input, GT left output into amp input. Send and return from GT into the amps send and return. The fx chain is set up so that filters and distortion is sent to the amp input, and the modulation/delays are still going through the loop. With that, I can still send a digital preamp from the GT into the loop, bypassing the amp front end to use the amps power amp, and disabled anything going into the amps preamp. I understand that the amp input, and return to the GT are different in 4 cable, but what is the practical difference?
There really isn't much of a difference in this case, since both your amp and gt1000 both have an effects loop. The 4 cable method is really just attempting to make a closed loop in a scenario where the effects loop exists only on the amp (in most cases).
Love this channel! Thanks for all your efforts.
Glad you enjoy it!🙏🏻
thanks for the video ! I'm wondering then, since there is only one exp input on the nano cortex, would it be possible to use both the expression and the switch of the exp pedal ? Or would I need to choose whether I want touse the switch or the expression function of the pedal ?
Thank you for watching! There is latching settings you can configure on the NC. I don't believe it supports toe switches though.
Super helpful, thank you! One thing I noticed, is that for the heel-toe activation you were showing toward the end, it also has the S symbol on the right side of panel. I think it's neat, that you can also make it deactivate when the pedal is brought to the toe, rather than solely the heel.
🙏🏻glad you found the video helpful! Yes, the latching behavior and swappable function is awesome. It's one of the most in-depth features of the Nano Cortex.
Sounds great, looking forward to hearing more of it. The visuals give me that Silent Hill vibe.
Glad you like it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can you get captures of parallax x on the nano cortex ?
Plugin support isn't directly supported on the Nano Cortex. You can however use the methods I outlined in a video to neural capture a plugin. That would get you close to the plugin tonewise.
@ thank you !
Vocals are great dude! This is awesome! 🤘
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it! 🙏🏻
Mine just came in today. Can't wait to go back and integrate this video with my setup. Thank you for doing this.
Awesome! Enjoy and please come back with any questions!
Do you think the cortex could be pushed by a Jazz chorus and perform well. I feel like most demonstrations are direct or through a dedicated power amp. I would want you use it for a couple dedicated sounds and be able to bypass back to the jazz chorus much like any other pedal.
I believe it could if you were to bypass the capture block in those cases.
If you used the 4CM with the VP4 and a Quad Cortex would it be possible to get a stereo signal?
Yes! You don't even need the 4cm with the Quad Cortex, given the fact you have 2 fx loops.
Thanks for your reply. I’ve actually been successful using the QC’s 2 FX Loops with the VP4 and gotten a stereo signal but the cabling is different. Doing it this way I get the benefits of the VP4’s effects but you can only put the QC’s FX Loop block before the or after the amp so I’m thinking you can’t really take advantage of pre-fx/post-fx. Another words, I don’t think you can separate your drive/compressor effects before the amp and your modulation effects after the amp. Am I wrong about this. Thanks again!
Can you do a show of your pedalboard. I want to use the Temple Audio Board. Thank you for all you do for the Nano Cortex !!!!!
Let me see what I can do! 🙏🏻
@@GaryWrightMusic I am confused about patch cables. One the Nano Cortex it uses TRS cables and I am not sure about what the Fractal VP4 uses. I know it's in mono so what patch cables did you use ? Thanks Kevin
Thank for the Diagram !!! That helps a lot !!!!! Can you still use the Headphone jack ?
Of course! Using the VP4 headphone port will give you the final results at the end of the loop.
There isn’t a headphone jack on the vp4
@@stuartglenn3719 There is one on The Nano Cortex.
Dear Gary, It would be very interesting to get review of The Key and The Gate pedal. It is worth noting that there is not much information about LICHTLÆRM AUDIO products in general. Thank you for your work.
I experienced the QC versus FM3 and ToneX. My verdict was I should keep the ToneX for amp captures, a lot more reliable and a lot more accurate. FM3 was also better sounding. So I sold the QC after one year. When they released the NC I ordered one and tried again, but their capture tech is still lacking accuracy. Mainly because they use small neural networks that can be trained onboard… while ToneX use 10x bigger ones, that can be trained only on powerfull graphic card Mac/Pc, taking hours in advanced mode. It’s a shame because neural DSP has been the first to offer a neural network amp capture device.
I think the QC has come a long way since releasing the 3.x firmware updates. Previous to that update though, I completely agree with your assessment. Tone-x is hard to ignore, especially at the price point.
The Nano Cortex is the most expensive piece of gear I’ve ever bought. Living in Argentina, I paid around $1,200 USD for a single unit, thanks to our country’s steep import taxes and regulations. That said, this little box has completely reignited my motivation to play guitar after nearly a decade. On the very first day, I downloaded a capture for a Soldano amp, and the sound blew me away-I never knew my Chapman Ghost Fret could sound so incredible. That moment alone made the steep price feel worth it. However, it does have its shortcomings. The lack of built-in effects, like compressor and overdrive pedals, feels like a major oversight. The options for other effects are also pretty limited. On top of that, the absence of a desktop app is a real letdown for me. I’ve been considering getting a VP or another alternative to expand the Cortex’s functionality, but since I just spent $1,200 USD, I’ll have to wait 😂 In conclusion, even with its shortcomings, I think it’s still worth the price tag-especially here in Argentina, since a Quad Cortex sells for around $3,500 USD. Let’s just hope Neural listens to their community and starts adding the missing features. Keep up the good work!
Ouch! That is unfortunate having that much markup. I agree with everything you mentioned! Thanks so much for the kind words.
I have the Nano and I want to get the Fractal VP4. Is there a way to use the VP4 compression and Drives in the front of the Nano and the VP4 wet effects after the Nano ? If so, how do you connect that up ?
Unfortunately, there is not. You would have to use the VP4 either before or after the NC, as there is no effects loop.
@@GaryWrightMusic Thank you Gary that's a bummer .
You can run the vp4 in 4CM with the nano. I have it set with a few effects in front and a few after. Only mono though
Guitar to vp4 in1 Vp4 out1 to nano in Nano out to vp4 in2 Vp4 out 2 to amp/interface/frfr
@@stuartglenn3719 Thanks. I am going to buy the VP4 and run it like this.
ive had mine for a month now and it works great for what I want, ive found the inconsistency of captures annoying at times but once found ones that work they are incredible but wish there was more description within the captures some are just completely blank, one negative but that could be me its annoying ive had to log into the capture cloud on neural website to delete captures from the unit I no longer want. is there a way of doing this from the app?
Unfortunately, there isn't currently.
Anyway to hear this without a backing tracking cutting into it?
Let me look for the logic master and I can upload the isolated guitar tracking.
Sounds like you have some good points on this unit. I wasn't in the market for this, considering the price of the main unit I am probably going to hold off on new gear for a bit. Regardless, great video, you are my one stop for anything QC related.
Thank you! 🙏🏻 The Nano does straightforward amp/cab and basic effects well. There is truly stiff competition at this price point though.
I tried everything and your video helped me a lot. Thanks
Great to hear!
Gary, I use a lot your tutorial. it' s perfect. I have just one doubt. i want use only nano as an interface on logic proX.I have a issue with the playback and Pan on recording: Input 3 for processing signal, I would use output 1-2 for left and right speakers? or only output 1 with a cable stereo split to the two speakers? thanks a lot!!!!!!!! francois from Italy (Aosta Valley)
Glad it's helped! You would use output. 1+2 as these outputs are mono, representing left and right. Please feel free to ask any other questions, and I will happily help!
@@GaryWrightMusic yeah i do that. input 3 or 4 and out 1/2. The issue is that I can't mute the track with "i" and "R" when I record so the nano cortex always plays and I can't pan right left. Do you have any advice? Then I'll stop stressing you :D
First of all, thank you for the video. I still have a question, it is designed for analog setups but I would like to connect it with the Quad Cortex because I absolutely don't like the design of the Seymour Duncan. Is there a problem with my idea? Thanks in advance 🙋🏼♂️

Good question! If you are running output of a mic'd cab to FoH, I think it can at 24v-60w. This is going to vary depending on the room and proximity to the drums.

hey Gary, can I load the Tone King Imperial MKII Suite into the quad cortex
Hey Teddy, Currently the Quad Cortex only natively support a specific subset of NeuralDSP plug-ins. (Archetype: Gojira X, Archetype: Plini X, Soldano SLO-100 X and Fortin Nameless Suite X). If you wanted to use the Tone King plug-in suite, you would need to try to capture the plug-in using the neural capture process. I have videos in this playlist that support getting started with neural capture. There are a couple of different tweaks necessary to capture a plug-in, that I am happy to help answer for you if you need.

They are potentially teasing a comeback. Stay tuned this year!
Can you connect an external device laptop/iPad, etc. to jam with songs? Don’t see a Bluetooth option…..
There is unfortunately not a Bluetooth option. You can use USB from the QC to your computer and output the QC sounds via audio interface. This allows for you to play and hear yourself, and whatever tracks you wish through the computer / studio monitors / headset.
@@GaryWrightMusicThere are differing opinions as to whether there is already a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver in the QC and that it’s not enabled yet. Any idea if this is true? Thanks much!!
Glad to see someone play anything from Type O.

Hello friend, if you place the expression pedal, can you connect an ampere switch in the same place and use both, or is it one or the other?
Hello! Unfortunately, you have to select either midi OR exp in the Nano Cortex configuration.
I really feel like the VP4 should have been more like a VP 6 (unless I'm missing something.) Tuner/Compressor/Gate/EQ eat up a lot of room.
I am a little confused, as I haven't heard of a VP6 to understand your comparison. If you were hoping the VP4 had your list of items at the end of your comment, it does! Tuner ✔️ Compressor ✔️ Gate ✔️ EQ ✔️
@@GaryWrightMusic No, I'm saying it feels like the VP4 should have 6 options because if you want a drive/reverb/delay it's hard to fit in a gate/compressor eq with just 4.
Ah, ok. Yes!
How did you strap your VP4 to the Temple Audio pedalboard? Was it velcro or something else?
I am using the temple audio quick attach plates. They essentially use double-sided tape (strong stuff), and then mount with a screw on the backside of the board.
