I'm 73 and had my first knee injection about six weeks ago. I wish I'd seen your video first. My knee felt great for a couple of days (the anesthetic), then started to hurt again. I was devastated because I thought the injection had failed. A couple of days later, the pain disappeared and fortunately has not come back yet. It hurt for a couple of seconds when the doc did the injection, but that was it. Well worth it! Only complication was an extremely elevated glucose level.
Omg you can’t believe how nervous I was you were actually going to inject him. As someone with a bit of a needle phobia, I couldn’t help but cover my eyes barely peeking through my fingers . But thankfully you put the cap back on and all my anxiety washed away. 😅
GPs are so underappreciated. In Brazil everyone wants to become a specialist and make money. But the GP is the one who's gonna solve 90% of everyone's problems. A cardiologist might achieve vanguard level knowledge but a GP always has something to learn which will improve his practice. It's just about the sheer quantity of knowledge, not necessarily its complexity, though complex thought is required to connect the dots. thankfully for me I dropped out and now just do music xD
OH MY GOSH. I've been following you for a while and last year I got hired as ortho medical coder. It's awesome to see something I code every day on one of your videos!!
This video is very useful for me, I am due to have this injection next week and I have been feeling anxious about it. Looking at this video though, makes me more relaxed about it and confirms that my fears were unfounded …thank you
Okay I have been getting cortisone shots in the knee .I go back in October to start the shot your doing .but I have medal pins in my knee . Do I need to ask my dr 🤔 about this.
Edit: uh... spoilers, I guess! xD Very glad there was no actual injection, just because I was worried why he'd need one - was already preparing a "hope you'll get better soon" comment xD
Aw, I think Dr Gill deleted my comment:/ I was only being silly, I have tremendous respect for the work you do and the highly informative and entertaining videos you publish, sir.
TH-cam has been auto deleting many comments lately 🥲 I had the same issue in another ASMR channel, I commented it and some minutes later it was gone I had to comment again bc of that auto delete
I had PRP injections into my knees a couple months ago. IT HURT LIKE HELL. The anesthetics helped nothing to alleviate the pain from the PRESSURE. But then the more experienced doctor came in and injected it no problem.
Watching the end of this video is made all the more hilarious knowing what one of the outtakes was from his shorts and seeing that before seeing this 😂😂😂.
Isn't it true that if there's swelling from fluid that the fluid needs to be removed first and then inject the steroid afterward? My mom has pseudogout and a lot of swelling from fluid. They gave her a steroid shot, but didn't remove the fluid first. It didn't help at all, I suspect because they didn't first remove the fluid. Seems like the fluid would dilute the steroid and stop it from working. I also hear that the fluid itself is sort of inflammatory and should be removed before steroid injection.
If you could do one for a injection in the stomach. A doctor prescribed a medication that was to be applied in that way but, the way the nurses try to do it was so brute and violent that i didn't allowed it and I'm still terrified of that type of injection.
Glad Dr Gill didn't go through all the side effects of the steroids they're seriously laden down with them. I take Prednisolone the list on the information notes are a mile long.
I’m a baby about needles but have had many knee injections and surgeries unfortunately and cold spray works really well for me personally and I ain’t do injections without it 😅😅
Reason I say bigger issue, if we are needing knee injections then joint damage and possible knee replacement in the long term is something which is already a possibility
The steroid injections into my knees prescribed any an Australian specialist has caused more pain. Found out as have fibromyalgia it shouldn’t be done. No offence to this doctor but beware not everyone is aware of patients health issues.
For context, I watch purely out of interest, I'm not trained at all. I find it odd that understanding of the potential side effects is confirmed with the patient, but not that they understand the reason of why they are having the treatment.
Patient was asked if he knew why he was having the injection. He said yes. Presumably in this scenario the patient had already seen a doctor who advised the injection so the patient knew what he was there for.
Not an ideal training video in my opinion . Camera needed to be on medial side to clearly see landmarks . I personally lay PTS down and use different methods .
Honestly i’m not that happy with the outcome, the problem is I’m the person setting the camera up as well. However I do have a secondary video where we’ll be looking at the anatomical approach, and different methods as well Which particular approaches do you favour?
I had cortisone (steroids) injections in my shoulders a few times and in my SI joint twice. I was in such pain where I was almost begging for the jab. People whining about this don’t know what that kind of inflammatory pain is like. It’s hell!
No, while they’re all steroids by medical definition, the subset of steroids that fall under Performance Enhancing Drugs, e.g. anabolic steroids, are categorically distinct from the kind of medical treatment shown.

Instant serotonin boost seeing Dr. Gill uploading a video.

Always a good day when I see a Dr. Gill video getting uploaded
Hello Dr Gill! I am an FY1 strongly considering GP - thanks for all your content!

"I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I took an injection in the knee..."
Hahahahaha. That. Is great
This video is very useful for me, I am due to have this injection next week and I have been feeling anxious about it. Looking at this video though, makes me more relaxed about it and confirms that my fears were unfounded …thank you
A knee injection was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced

Injection? Nah. Puddapieceofpayper on it ☺️👍

Not done any deletions on my side 🤷♂️
youtube auto deletes comments for pretty much no reason.
auto delete kicks in if you use any trigger words ... unfortunately TH-cam is not in possession of a sense of humour 🙄
What did you say?
TH-cam has been auto deleting many comments lately 🥲 I had the same issue in another ASMR channel, I commented it and some minutes later it was gone

I would love this in both knees, wrists, shoulders and my neck. Probably not medically advisable but a lad can dream. Love your videos Doc ❤️👍🏼

Now I want to see the shorts

Dr James Gill has such an ironic and mesmerizing voice. RIGHT to sleep lol.

1:47 - is there really a consent for medical errors?! Like "a surgeon could be drunk and cut off the wrong leg, are you fine with that?"
Glad Dr Gill didn't go through all the side effects of the steroids they're seriously laden down with them. I take Prednisolone the list on the information notes are a mile long.
100% but we’ll be dealing with those a little more when we look at the detail of steroid injections 😊
Hey. Can you do a video about Gout please?
Question Dr. Gill:
Would it not be easier to have the patient facing the other way? So you're not walking so much with a needle? 🤔
Suggestion for next skill: trigger point injections! I’d love to see your method
Will David be making an appearance again as a patient? He hasn’t been featured in a while.
I'm going for the injection and I'm terribly afraid, don't you know what to do with it?
Just out of curiosity, would steroid injections be beneficial for conditions such as gout?
Why no numbing cream. I just had my knee done and it was the most painful ever I felt every inch or every millimeter of fluid going through my knee
I hardly felt a thing going into my knee (hurt like hell after though). The injection into my thumb, though...now that's a different story 🥴
I’m a baby about needles but have had many knee injections and surgeries unfortunately and cold spray works really well for me personally and I ain’t do injections without it 😅😅
perfectly executed
Would you use any bupivacaine?
When you think about blurring a logo but are actually just kinda indifferent if it actually works or not lol
So this is what I can expect for my steroid spinal injection next week
I have never had a knee injection. Does it hurt? 😅
Why and I mixing up Dr. Gill and Massage Sloth
I had this done in both knees and it wasn't painful ay all.
Sadly, steroid knee injection nor synovial fluid injections helped my patellar pain. But steroid injection worked very well for my carpel tunnel pain.
After all those warnings I think I would just try and find another way.
same, dont wanna end up blind with psychosis
This is Great 👍
What is the steroid for?
Corticosteroids are potent anti-inflammatory medications
My dad taken those injection steroids for his knee, now he has no more cartilage. Heard those are bad for your knee
It’s a balance, they DO impact on the cartilage, but if you can’t walk NOW due to the pain, that is often a bigger issue
Reason I say bigger issue, if we are needing knee injections then joint damage and possible knee replacement in the long term is something which is already a possibility
It sounded like you said hippie scrub
The pacient is a brazilian? His accent looks like one
I've had 67 knee injections....
Christ on a bicycle 😬

Ugg I hated theses when I had to have them done
Damm i thought you were gonna do it for real LOL
Severe infection? Psychosis? Vision damage? Wtf?
Subt in spanish please
With the shoes on a medical bed. OMG
Ikr
This is the second most painful feeling after getting kicked in balls 😢
I got the psychosis one time from the steroids
They found me behind a Burger King in the woods
He seems to be in kneed of treatment😂😂
Thanks doc! I can now inject this tren! Cheers!
Who's been asking you to do all this? Who's the emperor?
For context, I watch purely out of interest, I'm not trained at all. I find it odd that understanding of the potential side effects is confirmed with the patient, but not that they understand the reason of why they are having the treatment.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen someone wearing hollister 😂

Dr Gill looks similar to a young Sebastian Vettel

It's just me or that guy looks like Bob Ross of medicine?
Sharing with the gym bros
Also, you should immediately DISCARD your gloves and not keep them and wave them around as you chat.
wait, did he actually have a knee problem? 😅
This seems as bad as drugs...is it the same as those the bodybuilders do?
This is specifically as an anti inflammatory and it is going into the knee joint to settle a pain.
This is not the same as steroids of abuse
No, while they’re all steroids by medical definition, the subset of steroids that fall under Performance Enhancing Drugs, e.g. anabolic steroids, are categorically distinct from the kind of medical treatment shown.
you just heard "steroids" and immediately thought anabolic steroids 😂 not the same thing
@@TheAlex29494 😅 it's a strong word.
11 data later & I have felt no benefit whatsoever !
That’s a lot of side effects
i was like, all that is on the consent form?! dang .
Oooooh yes. We do these a lot. But we don’t do them casually
Did he say risk of amputation or am I going 😢 crazy
