Remember this on the tube and I did indeed see these support Big Audio Dynamite at Leicester Square 36 years ago today on 23-4-86

I was standing that close to the band at the State Ballroom in 1986 that I felt the flecks of spit as Matthew sang. He also got called out for his guitar playing answering the heckler back with a stunning guitar solo. RIP.

BTW, RIP Matthew, one of the coolest punks ever...

Yeah, can't help thinking if matt was alive today, bww would be still going strong! She did say in past interviews he was the leader of the band, definitely personality clashes split them

Chiefs performed live on The Tube (along with Janet Jackson) back in 1987. A great day out in Newcastle!

They were a regular back up band. Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols should say it all & make you think this is gonna be be good..In reality their style of music had already gone & they were living on reputations.

I think matt was super cool, would love to have seen him perform live. Apparently he was from mill hill, north London, my ex husband was from Edgware, his brother is the same age, but didn't remember him from high school. He was a great underated musician, I hope you discover more about your uncle Joe, good luck 🤞

I played in a band with Maff called RAMS, which was in Switzerland around 93', and we became friends. He was such a funny bloke, and I often laughed tears because of him. I still miss him.
