Hi Paul, I just created an assessment simulation in the new Captivate (12) for an all-day course on a large web-based system that covers multiple tasks (registration, resume creation, job searching etc.). For practical purposes, I was not able to record one huge simulation that would have covered all tasks in the system (I could have but it would have been like 500 slides). Instead, I focused on recording key decision points for some tasks and then included a keystone multi-step task or the ultimate task they need to know how to do -- searching and applying for a job in the system. My strategy was to record about 20 separate simulations and then copy and paste the slides into one file. So here's my problem, it is only scoring two of the assessment questions. It is saying there are 40 total questions but even though I am answering them all correct, it says I only got 2 points. I also set up all the actions to go to next slide for the click boxes and text entry boxes and set each question to include in quiz and the LMS. One thing I did do is that I used one of simulations (maybe the first one) as the base project into which I pasted all the other slides from the other simulations. Do you think it is only scoring the questions that were in that original file before I copied in all the others for some reason? The funny thing is it is still saying there are 40 questions at the end and that the total points are 40. So it's "seeing" all the questions, but only scoring two of them as correct. Have any ideas? Do you think it would be worth it to copy all the slides into a brand new file? BTW how do you add a results slide? I remember in the old Captivate you could insert a results slide. That's what I would like to do, but the new Captivate does not let you delete the results slide. Thanks in advance for your help!
Yes, my colleague Anita and I noticed the same issue during the latest training class. We have reported this as a bug to Adobe. I suggest you do the same. Email 'captivatehelp@adobe.com' and let them know you are axperiencing this as well. They may be able to help you with your current project but you may have to wait until a patch is available.
@@CaptivateTeacher Thanks for your speedy reply. So it appears that you cannot combine assessment simulation slides by copying and pasting slides from different files into one file? If so, I suppose you just have to keep the record button on while you record all the pages you want in one enormous file, and then delete all the slides you don't want. I guess I'll have to redo that project (though I will email Adobe as you suggested). Thanks again!
Hey Paul! Fantastic video. I am having a couple of issues you may be able to help with. 1. How to I turn off the click twice function - what I mean by that is when the user gets the correct answer and displays "Well done" they need to click a second time in order to move to the next screen. 2. My input fields are displaying the 'failure message' when the user click into the field in order to add their answer - any ideas? TIA 🙂
For item 1. I personally believe in only providing feedback if they answer incorrectly or click the wrong area. No need to congratualte them for every little click they have to perform. Your assessment will flow much more natuarlly if you let them just keep moving. For item 2. I'm not sure about that. Perhaps it is related to the Invalid input/focus lost settings. Remember that you can always reach out to Adobe for technical support at captivatehelp@adobe.com.
Thank you, Paul, for yet another excellent video! For these simulations, one request for Adobe I think would be that one could alter the placeholder text on input fields, so that it doesn't always just say "Enter text here." This is so that we could make it exactly match whatever the placeholder text is in the original application. Or is there a way to do that now?
We need to look at that workflow. Perhaps include your feedback to Adobe from the *Help* dropdown and see if they have any suggestions, or email captivatehelp@adobe.com
Is there a feature to allow someone to preview the project without Captivate and having to operate the actual module? In 2019 you could print the project to a Word document. This would allow an SME to be able to see the slides, their content, length, etc without having to open the actual training. I see you can generate a QR code but its still not great for those wanting a quick look at the design of the training.
If someone wanted a learner to review a policy, within the course itself (this was previously done through Web Objects in Classic) before taking an assessment how would you do that other than providing a link to the policy taking the learner outside the education?
There are several ways to achieve this. You could recreate the policy document using Text blocks. While you cannot use a web object you could certainly open the PDF into a new window (or tab). I guess it would mostly depend on the needs of the stakeholder.

Just double-click on the text input field and start typing.
I am finding that if you add the action to go to next slide when TEXT INPUT is incorrect that it does not allow 2 attempts.

Here is the tool that I use: th-cam.com/video/tFAxIAdISJM/w-d-xo.html
