    They definitely do NOT make songs as good as this anymore. I love the soul singing near the end, that's just way out!! I was locked up in a childrens home 1967-68 for broken families, my mother never came to see me, but I remember this song cheered me up.

    When singer Paul Jones left the band, Manfred Mann couldn't have found a better replacement than Mike D'Abo. Also great that they eventually even shared the stage for the Manfreds tour. In the sixties, Manfred Mann was up there with the likes of The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Moody Blues and The Bee Gees.

    When Manfred Mann covers a song they OWN it. Doo Wah Diddy, Pretty Flamingo, Mighty Quinn and Blinded by the Light to name a few.

    • @brianmallen8887
      @brianmallen8887 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah it's the arrangements, that guitar, the instrumentation, and those voices. The genius is the person who decides "this is what it's gonna sound like." And notice how no two recordings sound the same. It takes brass balls to take a tune by heavyweights like Dylan and Springsteen, decide they fucked up their own song, and turn it into magic. They say that Bruce Springsteen's career was made by the album "Born to Run." Bullshit I say. To this day I don't think he's ever put out a record better than Manfred's "Blinded By the Light."

      @brianmallen8887 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hexon66 Well to say Manfred's "Blinded" is better than Springsteen's "Born to Run" is confusing in that they're both written by him. Nobody should try to replicate "Born," just like nobody could touch Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" or "Tangled Up in Blue." Bruce's version of "Blinded" is okay, M M's "Blinded" is classic. Just like what Jimi Hendricks does with "All Along the Watchtower."

      The problem is, if you take all the evil people out of historical sources, as this now is, how do you educate people about what happened and what to look out for, to stop similar things happening in the future? It would be like doing a history of World War II and taking out all of Hilter's speeches. You may not want to see it but you can't sugar-coat what happened.

      Voorman played bass (an 8-string) with Paddy, Klaus and Gibson prior to Manfred Mann, where he took over from Jack Bruce, who'd left for Cream. In addition to the Beatles' 'Revolver' and 'Anthology' album covers he also did 'Bee Gees 1st' and the most excellent 'Extraction', Gary Wright's debut solo album which also saw Voorman playing bass. Another fine album on which he appears is Leon Russell's solo debut, which featured an all-star cast including Ringo, Clapton, and others from the Delaney & Bonnie and Friends lineup etc..

      I invented one, sent this message back 8 years! But, now it only goes forward, and the music is all made by robots. Not great but better than present day. Instruments no longer exist, except in museums and no one knows how to play them. Everyone speaks thru auto tune for perfect conversations. Singing is taboo.

    Amazing how they evolved to the Manfred Mann Earth Band and gave Blinded by the Light, The Runner, I Came for You.

    Yes, Englebert. You are.
    That aside, I remember first hearing this song when I was 15 and loving it. Still do, and I'm now 26!

    В 1988-м ко мне попала катушка с музыкой этой легендарной группы. Но, как оказалось, их песни я слышал и ранее, еще, возможно и в 1970-х. Обнаружились записи, которые мама включала.

    Manfred Mann didn’t seem to miss a beat when Paul Jones left and Michael DABO took over as lead singer. Pretty Flamingo hit no1 with Paul on lead vocals and The Mighty Quinn hit No 1 with Michael DABO on lead vocals. Michael’s daughter born one year later is the heartbreakingly beautiful actress Olivia DABO. You can see her on TH-cam in several films. Greedy 1994 a screwball comedy with Kirk Douglas yes Kirk Douglas and Michael J Fox. And The Last Good Time1995 a serious drama with German actor Armin Mueller Stahl and Maureen Stapleton. Stahl plays a retired violinist who takes in Olivia when she is homeless. Also Spirit of 76 with David Cassidy they travel back to 1976 from the future. All on TH-cam. And no I’m not Olivia’s agent or publicist. Just trying to draw attention to this incredibly talented and terribly underrated actress!!!!!!!!!
