- I have been on a little bit of a soft hackle kick this year and my viewers have responded well to them. This week I tie a Pheasant Tail Soft Hackle which is a great generic style wet fly. I was on a guide trip this week and the trout fishing was a little tough so we headed over to the big river and targeted Smallmouth Bass.I was swinging this fly along with a small streamer and did well on both of them. It's a great searching pattern you should have in your box.
We would like to thank everyone for all the support you all have given us at www.holsingers.... Please head over to our website for all your fly tying needs. Thanks for watching. -Shawn

Thanks, Shawn. I will give that area a try. As always, your information is very much appreciated. All the best.
That’s a classic, Shawn. Thanks for sharing.
It is a classic. I’ve been fishing it for years.
I’m the New Guy ...... Thanks. I improve every time I watch .....
I’m glad to hear that. This is an awesome sport and believe me it’s one that you can never stop learning in. That’s why I love it so much.
Another nice video Shawn. I love soft hackles
Me too!!! Just got a new Douglas Upstream to swing them with. I’ve been leaving the nymph rod in the truck and having a lot of fun.
Another awesome fly Shawn your making me fill another fly box LOL!!!!!!
Thanks. This is one you will want in there.
Looks awsome, going to tie some!
Thanks. Glad you like it.
You said it,, that fly catches fish.
It for sure does. I love “generic” style patterns just like this. It’s hard to beat a fly that imitates multiple things.
Thanks for a great fly. That one I will add to my box.
Thanks. Don’t be afraid to switch out peacock ice dub for the natural peacock. That little bit of flash helps.
Now we're talkin'! Soft hackles and classic wets. Good stuff, Shawn.
I’m am thinking of just making my channel all soft hackle flies. Lol. My views would skyrocket. It’s funny around my area all you se is colored inline indicators. Rarely do you see a guy fishing downstream and across that doesn’t have a thingamabobbler attached to his leader. Very few guys fish soft hackles in my area. On my TH-cam channel however they get more views quicker than any other style of fly. I’ve been having fun fishing them this year so I guess I’ll keep sharing them.
Nice tie Shawn! I've been thinking of tying some wet flies and giving them a try.
Glad you like it Roger. I’ve been fishing them a lot more this year. It’s plain fun for me. I like the nostalgia of it.
Thanks. I bet it was a fun trip. Unfortunately, a bit far away for me. I'm looking for some good streams to fish in PA. I live in MD, not too far from Shrewsbury.
I do not know that area at all. The closest I know to that that would be a little bit of a trip but give you lots of stream options would be the Chambersburg to Carlisle area. There are tons of great trout streams in that area and probably about an hour from you. There are a ton of options here in my area but that’s about 2 hrs away
I like adding a gold bead to get the pheasant tail down in the water column.
I actually have an old video of this fly with the bead. I usually carry a few beaded wets with me to fish on my euro leader. The bead allows me to cast a little better on the 20 ft leader.
Nice job 👍
Thanks Shawn glad you liked it

ICE OFF to ICE ON
#1 ALL AROUND FISH MAGNET
It is definitely a great one
Thank you Shawn. What size hook do you use for Bass?
I was using a size 12. What I was actually doing was swinging a streamer as my point fly and using this as a dropper. I actually had a smallmouth double once. They were both like seven inches but who cares it was still fun.
Great looking fly, can't wait to give it a go. By the way, what stream are you fishing in your opening clip?
Thanks. That is actually Montana Creek in Alaska on the Denali Highway and I’m catching Silver Salmon.
