Speaking as someone that retired from fire prevention in a major fire department there is NO excuse for any high rise, especially residential, to not have sprinklers. We cannot reach you with an ladder truck and with rapid fire spread we probably cannot get to you with hand lines quick enough to save some of you. The resident of this well built residential building did not survive because of how well it was built, he died because the contents caught fire and the fire and smoke that could have been extinguished with probably one sprinkler head was not there and that same smoke and fire took his life. That is poor fire prevention, no matter how good New York City"s suppression section is.
47fireguy and that’s the same reason all those poor people in Grenfell Tower died last year in London. Amazing that the two most powerful nations in the World don’t mandate sprinklers in high rise buildings. Obviously, this had a much better outcome as there was only one fatality. Hopefully England learns something from this fire.
47fireguy the building pre-dates mandatory sprinkler systems so it was exempt. Many high rise built in NYC are exempted because they predate this regulation
I understand that. The jurisdiction I retired from used the NFPA Life Safety code. I think it was the 1993 code edition required existing high rise buildings be retrofitted with sprinklers. One high rise residential home for the aged decided to fight the mandate in court. Less than a week before the court heard the the case they had a fire at this building that resulted in an elderly women not surviving. As you can guess the facility dropped their case. Then the personal injury lawyers took over. The lack of "common sense" in the legal profession. One firm ready to defend a right not to sprinkler and then another firm ready to move in to sue for damages because they didn't and someone died. You would think that the oppressive controlling politics in this city would know better. How can they want to control your very life in so many ways but not have dangerous conditions like that resolved ?
A multi million dollar death trap surounded by the most expensive shops, with just one exit which may be blocked by the fire and no fire supression system inside, only luck that this fire couldn't spread to other apartments due to the concrete construction. Many apartments in high rise buildings have this same problem, there is just one door to enter and exit the apartment with no other escape route out, where may older, less tall buildings have fire stairs outside or balconies opposite the main entrance which can offer refuge or a possible escape route.
Technically a medical bus, but used by the FDNY's EMS division. It's a Mobile Respiratory Treatment Unit - and probably the same one on scene to this high rise. I've filmed it responding. :)

Nick, You seam to have a unique talent for catching spectacular Hi-Rise 10-76 and 10-77 building fires in their early stages. This was not only a spectacular fire but an historical one as well considering the fact the building is one of the homes of the president of the United States and his family. You covered the fire from multiple viewpoints and angles, included fire ground audio, FDNY fire fighters, FDNY EMT's, NYPD officers as well as their equipment and apparatus including numerous special units. As a former Auxiliary Fire Captain of The FDNY during The War Years of the Department 1960s to the 80s this is the inherent dangers that the dedicated members of the New York Fire Department face on a daily basis. They risk life and limb to save the people of the City of New York regardless of race, religion, gender or political indoctrination.
Lots of conspiracy theories going around. Some are talking about an “explosion” which I only saw as a flashover or backdraft and then the windows failed.
Since the ban on fluorocarbon refrigerants due to ozone depletion, they have been replaced with isobutane. This means that every fridge has the equivalent of a can of lighter gas in its system. That was the most likely cause of the sudden flash when the fire involved the kitchen area, causing the fridge condenser to rupture. It happens during fires every day.
Ok I just found my answer. Quick question: do the FD allow you to stand nearby at a safe distance and record what is going on or do they tell you to be on your way and you ignore them?

Great camera work. Apartment had millions in art Warhols and vintage 🎸 guitars. But it’s the other apartment up top that’s being entered during this fire.
Cheap cladding, wrongly installed. The cladding caught on fire. The incorrect installation allowed the fire to spread. PS, the cladding may have been cheap in manufacturing costs, but it was far from cheap in price. The actual fire was behind the cladding. In the same way as concrete walls give fire division between apartments, fire barriers behind the cladding should have done the same. Grenfel should have had around 350 barriers. NONE were fitted. The lack of these barriers resulted in air rushing upwards behind the cladding, thus making the problem 10 times worse. Without this air rush, it is unlikely that the cladding would have even caught on fire in the first place. PPS. I am a retired chartered surveyor, working and living in London.
I don’t think we know yet, but I’d bet good money it was intentional. Probably set by a Clinton goon. Ment to severely hurt trump tower or at least be a slap in the face to Trump.
Very proud of FDNY! They did a beautiful job stopping this from getting worse than it already was. Well, something is really rotten in Denmark with this too!
Too early... but there were no sprinklers on his floor (50th of 58), and trump tweets "Very confined (well built building)"... four firefighters were hurt as well as the fatality.... Im sure dons floor has sprinklers.
Christopher Whitaker 4, lack of sprinklers; who in their right mind would pay all that money to live in a hi-rise bldg. & not have them...smh...?? I used to live in a hi-rise on the 2nd flr. & the bldg.had a sprinkler system. A few fires occurred in the bldg., but they were contained to the apt. where the fire occurred with minimal damage!! People would hang clothes on the sprinklers & that would set them off causing water damage to other apts. I bet Trump has sprinklers in his residence in his namesake bldg.& if not, he needs to retro-fit all apts. for them!! Prayers to the the who passed. He was a patron of the arts & friend to the late Andy Warhol, but fell upon hard times & was in deep debt.
Someone needs to design and build a drone tanker that 2 firefighters can fly up the side of the building and spray 500 gallons of water from the outside.
@@max_op64072 You`d need a hose hanging down from it thats connected to a pump vehicle on the ground. I`d imagine that to be a good idea for skyscraper fires, but I am sure this method isnt used in the reality for reasons, cannot imagine no one had this idea before
No sprinkler was system required for fire proof high rise *multiple dwellings* when the building was constructed. The NYC Building Code has since been amended by Local Law 10 of 1999 but it relates to new construction. The law was the result of the so-called Macaulay Culkin fire on the Upper West Side that resulted in 4 civilian fatalities in December 1998.
@Michael Berta Well, what I noticed was that, although intense, the fire area was rather limited and confined to but one apartment. It was not in possession of numerous floor areas. Additionally, the firefighters were able to apply water to the seat of the fire and successfully extinguished it in a timely manner. Are you aware that there have been two high rise buildings collapses in the last year or so? One in Tehran, Iran and one in Sao Paulo, Brazil?
Wow this is a really bad fire and it's contained in one apartment but this can't be a typical kitchen fire. Something is wrong, the poor tenant passed away, were there no fire alarms going off 🤔 It's totally engulfed but when you have apartment buildings this high up, you would think the orange man with the thin hair toupee would have sprinklers! Damn help out the brave fire fighters who have to move quickly up 50 floors with tons of heavy equipment. Condolences to the family of The tenant that lost his life
Made in USA um urrreed 😲 pump your brakes Sherlock, wrong answer. Soooo your brain is saying sprinklers with huge fire balls shooting out the windows 🤔 Me: playing devils advocate Me again: maybe the sprinklers were broke on that particular day 😉 Happy now?? 😛😂😀

Great camera work. Apartment had millions in art Warhols and vintage 🎸 guitars. But it’s the other apartment up top that’s being entered during this fire.
1:23 Wicked Scene of a window blowing out.
When the window blew out at 1:26, what that done by the fire or the FDNY?
thank god it did not become another Greenfell in London, however there is no cheap cladding on the outside
My father is involved with the flame redardent and has investigated the cause
Did the fire get put out?? I hope the residents and fire department are ok.
No. It’s still burning to this day….
These are incredible fire fighters and hope everyone's OK and listen at 1:32
Lol the car horn bleeped it out!
Incase you didnt know. The fire was caused by a overloaded power strip
Do we know if this fire was an accident or intentional?
Yes... it was --- one of those... hahaha.
I don’t think we know yet, but I’d bet good money it was intentional. Probably set by a Clinton goon. Ment to severely hurt trump tower or at least be a slap in the face to Trump.
it was real fire..i knw that much
FightingFalcon TX yup LOL
Dionne no shit
Oh no!I'm reminded of 911.
I hope no one was hurt😢😢.
BIG SALUTE TO THE FIREFIGHTERS!
GOOD JOB!!!👏👏👏👏
I don't even remember this happening.
Look it up on TH-cam it happened a year ago
Same i dont remember seeing it on the news
Amazing capture!
The thumbnail looked fake, but it's actually not.
Keep up the work# somebody really don’t like trump

Are you calling 9/11 fake?
@@slayerfan2 no, he's mocking those that do
WhErEs ThE DeMoLiTiOn ChArGeS?!?!
Very proud of FDNY! They did a beautiful job stopping this from getting worse than it already was. Well, something is really rotten in Denmark with this too!
What caused the fire
John Balnis I don't get what are you saying I don't think it is incompetence
So says the liberal stool sample John Balnis !
Hope no emails were destroyed.
Damn son nice video Nick
A que hora se derrumbara el edificio?
they forgot a few explosives ...
jajaja ese we ahorita se cae no te apures
Fire + Steel?? Surprised the building didn't collapse.
IKR. Every time I cook on my steel and gas stove I'm always dumb founded that my stove doesn't collapse.
Someone needs to design and build a drone tanker that 2 firefighters can fly up the side of the building and spray 500 gallons of water from the outside.
How do you imagine a drone lifting 500 gallons of water up
@@max_op64072 You`d need a hose hanging down from it thats connected to a pump vehicle on the ground. I`d imagine that to be a good idea for skyscraper fires, but I am sure this method isnt used in the reality for reasons, cannot imagine no one had this idea before
@@zamuraiicobalt896 cost and weight probably the biggest
@@max_op64072 like a fireship like in Star Wars Episode III?
They do its called a high pressure sprinkler. It should have been in the building. If it was there would have been no fire just some wet carpet.
Why did the sprinkler system fail to work. The fire pumps are tested (exercised) regularly. Takes alot for it to not work when needed.
Me: has 9/11 flashbacks ;-;
Can someone explain to me how they put fires out in skyscrapers like that? Like you can't exactly take a hose up 30 stories can you?
well the building is gonna fold in on itself soon right? cuz thats what happens in the U.S when a building catches fire.
Fire sprinklers.
Tell me again how expensive they are?
Did any one notice that steel frame buildings don't collapse due to fire?
Was it hit by a plane? Was there jet fuel in that fire?
@Michael Berta
Well, what I noticed was that, although intense, the fire area was rather limited and confined to but one apartment.
Sure they do...with enough heat.
IMPRESIONANTE EQUIPO DE BOMBEROS , SON UNOS PROFESIONALES.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow this is a really bad fire and it's contained in one apartment but this can't be a typical kitchen fire. Something is wrong, the poor tenant passed away, were there no fire alarms going off 🤔 It's totally engulfed but when you have apartment buildings this high up, you would think the orange man with the thin hair toupee would have sprinklers! Damn help out the brave fire fighters who have to move quickly up 50 floors with tons of heavy equipment. Condolences to the family of The tenant that lost his life
I read that the first alert came from an automatic alarm.
No sprinklers. The building was constructed before sprinklers were required.
Made in USA um urrreed 😲 pump your brakes Sherlock, wrong answer. Soooo your brain is saying sprinklers with huge fire balls shooting out the windows 🤔
Me: playing devils advocate
Me again: maybe the sprinklers were broke on that particular day 😉
Happy now?? 😛😂😀
You would think in a building that size and a modern skyscraper there would be a sprinkler system installed. The fire would never have taken hold.
Well I guess Trump cheaped out.
a feel a conspiracy theory coming
1.2 billion secret bailout
Christopher Sloan yea.. i thought office fires turned a building into dust in the U.S.. oh theres a building fire in the U.S? hmm they must be trying to get a new bill or act signed.
Already here... People are already saying it's a cover up for the Russians...
* illuminati theme*
XRated 67 i thought water melted steel beams
Does that building have suites in it or is it all offices? Anybody know?
