Now, just for fun, go back into Honda's warehouse and bring out Johnny O's 1985 RC250 with some updates to see how it compares to today's 2 strokes. Remember the battery operated electronic power valve on those machines?
After the event Ken said he had alot of fun on the 2 stroke but was good to be back on the 450s saying obviously theres a reason why they ride them(4stroke). What did he mean by that?
They're easier to ride, the torque curve is more linear so the power comes on smooth and torque is available at more RPMs. They also have a bit more top end speed, which is why the 450s took over the outdoors first.
I was hoping to hear more about motor since it was able to run down the ktm 300 and other big bore kits. I don't think a stock cr 250 with v force and pipe would have
RDST might just force Honda and Kawasaki to put out a new 2 stroke, hopefully. I did see some pretty juicy parts on that bike. It looks like billet crank cases, HRC Showa A1 Kit Forks, custom Pro Circuit expansion chamber and silencer and lots of titanium bolts/pegs. Plus they're lighter compared to a 4 stroke as he mentioned. I'll bet all the internals are forged HRC parts mixed with some exotic pieces we'll never know about... like the reeds being made out of baby seal skulls.
@@Peanutdenver I do like my kx 250. It would be nice to see what the Japanese manufactures can do with well balanced fuel injected 2 stroke platform.. not just keep selling a 14 year old bike like ahamay
@@dormantmenace I totally agree. KTM/Husky(Beta and Gas Gas to a minor extent)have the market cornered if you want the latest and greatest in a 2 stroke. Competition from the Japanese manufactures would really push new 2 stroke technologies and invite back in customers who want a cheaper bike for racing or just riding. They can't be completely blind to this demand can they? I currently have a SX 250, but would love to buy a new KX 250! I haven't had one since my KX 85. I don’t think he was referring to a “starter” as in push button start. He was saying a start device as in traction control. I think they used a smoother ignition map when the button was pushed, not 100% on that one though.
Hey manufacturer's: I own only two strokes. KX100, Husqvarna 144, 2001 CR250, CR500 in a 2006 cr 250 frame, KX500 in a 2012 kx250f frame and for the street? Yamaha RZ350 and Suzuki RG500 Gamma. I have 32 expansion chambers. Four strokes are for Toyotas.
MXA already did this, and even a built 250F just edges out a built 250 two-stroke in lap times. A 450 only has more of a gap. Travis Pastrana when he was going to do Motocross of Nations also experimented with lap times between his 450 and his built 250 two-stroke. The 450 was faster but he decided to ride the two-stroke as a fan favorite.
I doubt it as mcgrath rode the steel frames and didn't have rc power valve. The only thing that has in common with the mcgrath championship bikes is the graphic scheme and Dunlop tires.
Honda needs to realize they could single handedly bring back 2 stroke pro motocross simply with the CR250. The bike is phenomenal! The rules of the AMA have to be changed back and also they need to be fair. If you race a 250 then you race the 250 class whether it be a 2 or 4 stroke. If the 4 strokes loose that just further proves they are slower and can’t compete. As far as the EPA goes they are not involved because KTM,Yamaha and Husky still make a 2 stroke. We need to stir up and even cause conflict in pro motocross which will attract a lot of attention to the sport and changing this ruling will do it. Honda is loosing multi millions by not having these 2 strokes out there including the 80,125 & 250. The time is now and it’s going to take someone like Honda to stand up and fight back and change these rules. The 4 strokes can still be sold and used for off road and the woods which they are great for. This entire 4 stroke thing has just been sad for the sport and silly. I have had kids in my shop and they like to hear the bikes run because it’s exciting and it’s always the 2 strokes they want to hear as well as letting them rip the throttle a few times. The reason this is so important is we have to teach our youth. Motocross came from a very tough blue collar background yet the only ones that can afford them now are the wealthy and upper middle class so that means our best riders are not even out there racing. This has to be changed. We need the Bob Hannahs, Rick Johnson’s and Jeff Wards back on the track fighting it out. We need to hear the loud screams from the bikes in the turns.
Why is a man like Ken R not racing the CR250? Was he forced to race a 4 stroke? Having a top rider on a 2 stroke is what we need. I wish Jett would race one as well as Cooper W, Chase and Eli T. It would easily bring back 2 strokes and Nike sells would be through the roof
It will take a pro on a 2 stroke to reverse all the rules. Either that or a petition. There is to much pride involved on those who made these changes so I would just like to see a new organization
So whats the power like? How long is the powerband? Is it easy to control? Hows the bottom and top end? Is it a screamer? How does the suspension compare to stock modern? Will it holeshot with 450s? All questions nobody will honestly answer because you ride a 4 stroke and shut up.
