      @@sewage111 well it depends if he has circle hooks. They work by just letting the fish take it. I think he may need to use braid or a rod with a stronger backbone, sometimes the floppy rods give the fish all the power and the hook can get deep in there

    King of loose drag and weak hook sets. All honesty love your videos and the spots you fish. Always have the potential to hook into an absolute monster start fishing like it! Heavy rods, tight drags.

      i'm subbed and the weak hookset with floppy drag gets me every time. he gets so frustrated but it's such an easy fix.

      Agree. I also think he could give the fish a little more time before setting the hook. Especially with larger baits.

      If you set too hard with circle hooks you're risking just yanking the bait out of their mouth if the fish is facing towards you, better to give a slow pull around with heavy drag and strong line and just let the hook do the work. Corner of the mouth every time

    Please just once try so e of these spots with a fly rod , sinking line and big leech patterns and such . I fly fish a lot and would love to see how it works there .

    i find with larger circle hooks you need to set the hook 2-3 times, I was losing lots of fish when doing single sweeping hooksets versus 2-3 quick hooksets, bigger hooks need a little extra oomph to get it past the barb

    I wonder if they were pike. Pikes have pretty boney mouths, making hooking them tougher. maybe bring a shiny large lure next time?

    I never have luck with using the same bait as you and I fish under damns and in a creek that flows into the Ohio river and all I catch a sunfish and blue gils and SNAGS I need help 😭😂

    Lost a monster catfish whole night fishing, and was super bummed, but the next day I caught a 17lb flathead that made up for it. Keep up the good fishing, live your channel!

    Tip for using circle hooks, leave the rod in the holder when I fish hits and reel as fast as possible then wen its hooked pock up the rod

    I was always taught. To set the hook. You have to yank back hard and fast to set it. My dad never lost one.

    I hate to be that person who tries to tell someone else how to fish, but I am only making the suggestion to maybe slow it down a bit when you first hook into something and try not to get overexcited and reel super fast or hoss them in. Can definitely play a part in losing fish from my experience. Other than that, totally love your content and this channel. One of my faves, for sure.
